Um not sure what you are referring to as far as alcohol but putting it in rice could help. And it's just as sensitive to water as most phones if it gets inside the housing. Put it in rice and leave it like that overnight turned off. See if that helps.

Ha. The "ha" was for the ninja comment. Aside from that, the trick with a water damaged phone was to put alcohol on the wettest parts and hopefully that will dissipate some of the water of the sensitive parts. How much water got on yours? I've gotten spalshes and soap over my screen with no ill side effects.

what happened to you device? did the rice helped your screen?

You shot your LED backlight. Better send it to customer care.

Home button LED not working

so i was applying my bodyguardz on my phone and i was putting the screen one on, and a bit of solution splashed onto the home button, and now the led light wont work any tips?

I have the same problem but i bought my phone second hand. Not onlyy does my home button not work but the whole left eedge of my digitizer seems dead, but luckily the phone still operates fine. But it is annoying having to press back...
Anyone reccomend a self help solution for the unfortunate?
This may sound weird, but I've had great luck fixing water damage with rubbing alcohol. Get as close to pure rubbing alcohol as possible, take out the battery, and dip your phone into it. Then take a vacuum and suck it all out, and give it a day to dry.
no offence but that is such a stupid idea, id ruin my phone

Watered down dinc2. Help please

Hi all, I have a dinc2 and it was dropped in water. It was removed very fast and put In rice. Thought I saved it but it started wigging and only goes to htc screen. I am able to volume down w/ power and get to hboot menu but that's about it. I plug in to comp and it doesn't recognize it. I have the htc sync on my comp. But nothing. Don't have ins. So I would like to get it running. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks, hp

Unfortunately there is not much else you can do for water. Maybe let it sit on a window seal in the sun with the back off. Just to try to get any remaining water out. More than likely it will not come back.
Are the water marks turned pink?

What happens when you get in recovery? Something like a failure to mount certain partitions?
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
I have also had a similar experience with my Eris. I left it on a radiator with the back off and battery/ SD card removed for 24hrs and it came up fine even though my water markers were all triggered. Still works today.
Good luck!
Hi thanks for the replies. The water marks are not pink. When at the recovery window the recovery goes to the htc white screen. The crc calculates. Its been more than a week. The only reason I thought there might be some hope is because it does go to the recovery window. I also notice small pin holes in the back cover. Maybe a master reset or some hope. Thanks again for the help. hp

if the water marks are not turned you can file a warranty claim but that is risky due to not knowing what is inside the phone. The outter marks are harder to turn than inner water marks.
Try just letting it dry out like myself and others have said. You do not want to screw things up more messing with it vs letting it work its self out.

thanks but...., i and now you all know it has water damage. for me to go in to verizon and play dumb would be deceitful. the phone is expensive but not worth lying about. i have to face an all mighty God some day, and possibly sooner than later. its just not worth the risk to me. but i do thank you all for the suggestions. be blessed and happy new year to all. hp
Not sure if it's been a week, but there could still be water in it. I dropped my old iPhone in the toilet, and by the time got it out, the screen was flickering and it was resting randomly. I took it entirely apart and found lots of spots where water reached. Dried them all out, and it still works fine to this day.
At this point, you have nothing to loose, so I'd sit down at a clean table with some small screwdrivers and start tearing it down. I'm sure there are diagrams on the web showing how it comes apart. In addition to water, because of the time that has elapsed, look for spots of corrosion - light green to white dust or flakes. If you see any, you can try brushing it away with a small paintbrush. If the water has all dried up and it's still not working, there has to be a short (or several) somewhere. You might get lucky, and like I said, you have nothing to loose.
Your honesty is much appreciated! Fraudulent warranty claims affect all of us.
If you still haven't gotten it working I recommend a bath in rubbing alcohol for about 30-40 seconds. The higher the alcohol percentage the better, I prefer the 90% stuff. Then another overnight sit in rice. Do both of these with the back cover and battery both removed.
I know it sounds a bit strange to put it in liquid but the alcohol will dilute the water and make it evaporate much faster. The rice will further accelerate this process. I have done it before with great results and at this point you can't do much more harm to it if it isn't even turning on.
Best of luck!

My friend spilled milk all over her phone, and it wouldn't turn on. I told her to put it in alcohol, and a month later it still works, if a little funny sometimes. But yes, it is important to remove the battery, and the sd card. And let it sit for a while afterwards.

Do you know what alcohol does to the LCD screen...
It left a permanent color band pattern on my 6800.
If you are going to put alcohol any where near it I would do it with a Q-Tip with the covers removed.
Find an old tire compressor, the 12V type and modify the intake of the compressor to connect a suction tube to it.
Swab the area around the components with a soggy Q-Tip (avoid running any on the LCD screen) and work it in with an old tooth brush (make sure the toothbrush is very clean, you don't want to smear any fluoride residue on the solder mask of the circuit board).
Then power up the pump and suck up the excess residue.
Wen prepping the unit, you may want to open all of those ribbon cable clamps.
That's the first place corrosion wants to grow.
Just be sure to handle those cables with care.
The copper traces within them is very thin.
If there is any corrosion on the contacts of the cables, lightly use a pencil eraser on them by holding it flat on a surface add rubbing in one direction away from the main part out to the end.
Good luck...

Hmm... I never thought about that but I can definitely see how damage to the screen is possible. I have never seen it happen to phones that I or anyone I know have tried it on but I have never tried it on a touchscreen phone, which could definitely be different.
Thank you for posting a much safer method!

Dropped my Nexus into the toilet bowl

What are the chances that it's going to make it?
It was in there for a good second before I managed to get it out. I quickly reached down pulled it out and did a battery pull as fast as I could. Now my question is, how long do I leave it to dry for before attempting to turn it back on?
It's presently on my patio air drying where I plan on leaving it for a full day. Then I plan on submerging it into a bowl of rice for yet another day.
Is this the right procedure and anyone have any other recommendations?
Please describe the toilet bowl, what was in it? how much poop/urine?

You did all you could to save it. You actually have minimal chances of permanent damage if you really took it out in one sec. and pulled the battery.
I've saved this way a SGS1 but is stayed under water a good 5 to 10 minutes (time it took to my friend to stop crying and come find me and complain about dropping the phone in the toilet ).
You can get a water proof spay applied on the phone

It should be fine if you got it out quick as your phone didn't get immersed in water for that long; just leave it out to air dry, wipe away any water and I'd probably recommend waiting over 24 hours depending on where you live... If you have a sim card, I'd suggest you to remove it as well
If that bowl contained only water it should be ok. To be sure 100% you can put it in rice for some time, like overnight.
There should be an app for a warning screen when you approach proximity of toilet. Bombs away.
Sent from my Nexus in Texas.
I would have pulled the battery and sim immediately, then shook off any excess liquid... then sealed it in about 2 cups of white rice in a sealed baggie. And for no less than 48 hours, much more like 72...
Then there's the other crowd who not only would have done the above, but after shaking off the excess liquid, would have submerged it into 91% rubbing alcohol which would have sanitized it by removing impurities in the water. Then putting it into the rice baggie.
I'm not too keen on further submerging it into anything on purpose, but it makes sense as alcohol has drying properties.
As always, your mileage may vary.
Good Luck!

Thanks for all the replies guys.
When I get home later I'm gonna put it into a bag of rice for a further 48 hours, then hope for the best. Sadly, this is my 2nd Galaxy so if it doesn't work I'm gonna just hold off for the next best thing. The first one fell into the ocean. I had too much to drink so I more or less deserved that happening. This time though, I was trying to be so careful and made sure to keep the phone FAR away from the toilet (literally 3 feet or more) while I was reading an email. I turned slightly and my elbow accidentally hit my shower's door causing the phone to pop out of my hand. Out of all the places it could have landed, of course, it landed straight in the toilet bowl.

****ty situation bro. Literally.
I dropped my OG Incredible into a ****ty toilet. Grabbed it just as fast as it fell in. Took the battery out immediately, then took the whole phone apart and cleaned it with alcohol. Worked fine.
Personally, I wouldn't put it in rice, I would look around for some silica gel. The rice can (and will) get somewhat permanent dust under the screen, while the gel does not release dust/powder/etc.

agreed... too many particles floating around in a bag of rice but if it's your only option, then rice is better than nothing
Rinse it off in alcohol, that will fix it.

No, it creates a water proof coating on all components, preventing water from every reaching them/get them wet.

i concur with the alcohol suggestion. your issue is going to be corrosion. if you are able to obtain some anhydrous isoproply alcohol i would submerge it in there then let it dry fully at least a few days just to be sure.

Camera Condensation

Anyone ever had condensation under the camera glass? Went to take a picture this morning and it looked blurry, upon closer look I noticed condensation under the camera housing. It was fine yesterday, no contact with any moisture, now this.. Also, even if I can get rid of the condensation wouldn't some kind of residue remain? I'd appreciate suggestions on this, I have three kids, two of them under the age of two so I use my camera daily. Help please!

You don't take your phone into the bathroom while you shower or subject it to very quick temperature changes do you ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Put it in a bag of rice and let it sit there till you dont see the condensation anymore. More than likley if there is condensation behind the camera lense, it is in the whole phone. Drying it out might leave a residue, but probably not noticable.

Negative. Literally sat on my night stand all night. Phone got hot while backing up, wiping and flashing new rom this morning. I wouldn't think hot enough to cause condensation though.

So I set my phone on a cold metal filing cabinet and the condensation went away. Leads me to believe there is moisture in the phone, which makes sense that heat would cause the condensation. Time to get some white rice, brown rice is all I have in the cupboard. Stupid racist moisture. Thanks for the replies, I was getting scared. All is well now, carry on.

Brown rice might absorb moisture too. Or try salt.
Brown rice should work, but i wouldnt use salt. Salt gets sticky when it absorbs moisture.
Actually rice isn't good for the phone. Rice has a lot of dust which can cause more damage than good.

Your not suppose to shake it arround or bury the phone in it. Just set it in a big ziplock bag filled with rice. On top of the rice, not covered in it. They also make products for this, i seen one at walmart for 30 bucks.

This phone has one amazing repair feature, the screens not stuck to the digitizer. If you dare, get a heat gun, and warm around the screen and use a guitar pic or a open tool, and pull the digitizer off and clean it. Make sure that you have it 100% clean before you put it back, and you should be good to go.
You can also try just warming it up with a hair dryer and seeing if the water will dry, though that may leave spots. I would definitely suggest popping the screen off. If you are careful(I've done this) you can open it without ripping the phone apart. However, I would not recommend that unless you have done it before. If you do, the digitizer cable is on the top Left. Lift only upwards from the bottom, and only slightly, to not damage it.
