Many tutorials on rooting Samsung Galaxy S3's are for the SGH-T999. Will those tutorials work for the SAM T999? I'm not sure if my model number is SAM T999, but it does say that on the box.
SGH-T999 is the US Tmobile variant of the SGSIII

If your device is on the forum name yes it will work.

That is the tutorial I used for rooting my phone (my box also says SAM T999). It trips the flash counter. Which doesn't matter unless you need to return it. Very easy, impossible to mess up.
SAM-T999, SGH-T999, d2tmo, all the same device.

Hi everybody, I recently got a Koodo Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T9898D and I wanted to know if the rooting process for my device is the same as the rooting process for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989. I realize there is no section for Koodo's (or Telus') version of the phone on the website, so I had to post here.

You betcha! There is a forum here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514434
I used this method and it worked great! Just make sure you use the 3.0.7 efghi signed version of Superuser. I managed to use the other one, but i got the superuser app, but no root access until I used the correct version
Anyway, there you are. Enjoy your SII X!

thanks! I was going to use that guide or the galaxy 2 root "How to Root ICS/GB on T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989!"
but both should work though. The guide you sent me says it's for 4.0.3, will it work for 4.0.4? And you're with Koodo right?

I used the guide on Android forums, only because there were pics, but both work and are the same. And yes, same procees, just use the Superuser 3.0.7 efghi signed version. And yup! No issues with Koodo whatsoever.

Oh okay, so did you use the process from the link you sent? And it seems the main difference between the two guides is that one uses Superuser 3.0.7 efghi signed version and one uses CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip. While they both should work, I was wondering what the differences between the Superusers were; I think 0.87 is better because it is compatible with future firmware upgrades

Well, there was a link to this guide on that forum -
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...d-ultimate-root-optimization-guide-steps.html
I used this guide only because it had a few more details than the other, but they are essentially the same steps. Also had some pics.
And about the superusers, i don't know the difference. However I was able to install superSU from the Play Store and also update the superuser version I was using after I obtained root.
So to answer your question, I have no idea haha. Personally I think it would be best to follow the guide, and then try to upgrade after rooting, but it's your choice.
Hopefully this helps, but if not, search is your friend

I sure was. I'm still using it because a few of the ICS roms are a little buggy. I've heard Jedi Mind Trick is pretty good tho. I just wanted something stable and bug free Stock with root woo!
And a little question. I think you are using one too many 8's. Your phone an SGH-T989D correct?

Telus T989D here and flashed using the method in the 2nd post worked perfectly. Used TWRP instead of CWM, rooted easily, even flashed radios (so I could unlock my SIM) back and forth, and installed AOKP.

Hey. i now you are saying that the rooting proccess is the same but do you know if all of the roms and customizations are the same? i am wanting to put CyanogenMod 10.1 RC3 on my Koodo Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T9898D but everything i am seeing is for T-Mobile.
Model number: SGH-T989D
Android version:4.1.2
any other details needed to find out which will work just let me know.
generally everything is mostly the same the only thing you might have issues with is your data you might have to find the APN settings for KODO and make sure to flash the newest radio MC6
Hi i am trying to flash galaxy s 3 I9300 official firmware to my ATT galaxy s 3 US is that possible . any body did this please let me know if i can do it through odin. I got everything ready i just need to know the way .
No. You will brick. End of story.
You can check out the porting script in the dev section but you still run a big risk.

The i9300 and i747 (AT&T model) are two different devices. So don't do it.

This.
If you do it, you'll regret it.
I need to know how to root my Samsung sgh-t999 with the latest update to Jelly Bean.
Thanks

I suggest cf auto root. Read the whole post.
Easier step by step guides exist for a variety of rooting methods. I think this is the easiest. There are many posts and guides in this very forum.

If you follow directions it's very easy. Download root66, unzip it and flash using odin. You will have rooted jb

Cinci Bell SGH-T999
Greetings! I am a new SGH-T999 owner, not through T-Mobile but through Cincinnati Bell. My previous device is the Sprint GS3, which I Rooted, Flashed, etc extensively, so I have some familiarity with this stuff, but there are some differences between the 2 devices that I have questions about.
My new device is a Cincinnati Bell SG3 SGH-T999 with T999UVDLJA stock ROM:
Is it reasonable to believe this is a T-Mobile variant and I can follow procedures and use ROMs listed for SGH-T999? For example, any reason I can not use the autoroot or the root66 listed here?
Thanks in advance for your help!

You'd probably get a lot quicker answer if you searched the Q&A section or if you started you're own thread instead of taking over someone else's thread that hasnt been posted in for over a month.

Do Not flash the i9300 if you have the i747. Its the international version and you can easily brick your phone. We have a thread for att i747 roms go there for any info you need.

You can flash other roms on both versions M919V and M919. Just use your kernel for YOUR device.

yes, after you flash the stock rom, before you boot make sure you use the KERNEL provided for your device.
It will work.

I have downloaded the T-Mobile Rom. I need as well the kernel for my device ? where can i get the T-Mobile kernel ? What if i want to switch back to M919V kernel where can i find that one ? After i flash the t-mobile rom+kernel , i should be able to flash the T-Mobile Roms ( wicked, infamous etc.) ?
Thanks for your help.
I have a question regarding my SGH-M919V as well. After I upgraded to 5.0.1 I haven't been able to turn on my WiFi or Bluetooth. I'm brand new to rooting and flashing and am just starting to understand the difference between bootloaders and modems and roms and all that. Well, my question is how can I fix my WiFi? I've read a ton of forums where people have similar issues and there are fixes, but often for the american Galaxy S4 (as far as I understand it). Should I downgrade to 4.2.2 to fix WiFi? Is there a kernel I can install that will fix it?
Thanks in advance, I appreciate anyone who respond's patience,
D
Based on my research, that's a Canadian S4. They're intended for a subset of Canadian mobile providers: in this case, Wind, Mobilicity, Videotron, and Eastlink. There is also an SGH-I337M (this time a variant on the AT&T version) intended for use with Rogers, Telus, and Bell.
