Ok so I upgraded my girlfriend's glide last night to the official ics rom, knowing about the keyboard issue. I have read another post fixing that. And will get around to it eventually. More pressing is the new issue I have not seen anywhere. Has anyone had any problems with the call log? Every time she makes or received a call the "android system" force closes and the log does not show any of the recent calls.

Same over here!
The com.android.phone is having some problems.
---------- Post added at 06:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:03 AM ----------
Found this:

It seems that some contacts are not well handled on update so what they recomend is to merge all contacts with your google account. Then delete them all from the phone, and once you've done that, importing them again from google.
Gonna try it (after backing them up on my computer) and let you know how it goes.
Have you tried backing up everything and then do a factory reset? For major release updates (froyo->gb, gb->ICS) it seems that the migration process can sometimes run into problems. I had to do a reset for my Atrix for the froyo->GB update, the phone was FC'ing all over the place.
Yes, I have done a backup and reset. And I also tried deleting all the contacts and re-syncing the device. That did fix it, for a bit. However today it is right back to the shenanigans again.

I guess it is also with noting that when com.Android.Phone force closes, the phone signal drops.
Any ideas? Also I have cleared the call log.

maybe try wiping the cache in recovery?
Last ngiht, I did a clear user data and cache, and went back into Kies and reinstalled the update (assuming a bad flash). I did not setup facebook, but I did setup at&t address book and got the contacts from the google account. I skipped installing Smartr Contacts and I have not heard from her today complaining about anything other than I didn't run the setup on all her apps so she had to. Will post back later to let you in on if she had any problems today.
factory reset
I read somewhere a piece of advice for this problem: make a factory reset (be sure to make a backup of your important files on the sdcard before that). I tried that, since than I have no longer this problem
So I've done a factory reset. After 30+ hours still no issues with the call log.
After a re-install of 4.0.4 she no longer has this issue, and the alt key on the slide out keyboard seems to work again.

So this has probably been posted somewhere and im probably breaking some moral codes of the forum... and yeah im my world is going to literally fall apart if my problem doesnt get solved and its THE MOST important post on the forum just like every other post.
but. Im running SyndicateRom frozen 1.1.0 and i started getting these google.framework yadda yadda force closes....those are not so much the problem but annoyances.
My problem is that i go to boot my phone this morning... notice theres no new texts...which i expected at least one. go to open the messaging and BAM forceclose. no options to wait. the menu only flashes saying fc and sends me back to homescreen. after a while a little 9 appears over the messaging. Idc if i have to reflash my whole phone....i just want those 9 messages how can i retrieve them?
or rather is there a place in the phone where the sms' are stored in which i can back up to a compy and view or in the phone after a reflash it?
im desperate with curiosity. i never get 9 messages and they may be important.
TL: DR Messaging FC. want messages i received before wiping.

Have you tried to go to settings -> applications -> manage and clear data for your SMS app?
Yeah... it was to no avail
Grab an SMS app like Handcent from the Market.
I have a feeling your /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db is jacked. See if u can open it. This is where all ur txts are stored.

tried this, failed numerous times, then randomly decided to work, backed up everything up to a day ago...but not the last texts before it went coo coo for cocoa puffs

i got as far as /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony and nothing shows up after that?
If you cleared the data/cache for the messaging app and it's still happening you're probably gonna have to re-flash. This happened to me once and that was my only fix. You can try backing up the messages in Titanium but if you're getting force closes I don't know if that'll help.
I am having the same issue as well. I am running syndicate rom frozen 1.1.0 with the vision kernal 1.1. A few days after The first time I flashed the rom and kernal I got the numerous force closes. So I wipe the device, cache and dalvik reflashed the rom and kernal but I only restored my apps with data using titanium backup and not the system data. Now I am just getting the force close with my messages.
i ran into this and was instructed by our wonderful mod to go advanced>fix permissions in cwm. worked beautifully, and i was just about to wipe everything
I did this...then everything died.
Once i booted back up EVERYTHING and its mother started FCing from launcher pro to keyboard to google framework to clocks....everything.
I had no choice but to reflash. Fingers crossed this round.

Sounds like bad data. I had this same exact thing happen to me. I was being a lazy ass and not shutting down properly before switching batteries. I reflashed SFR 1.1.0 and shut down properly now and have not had a problem since. Maybe a similar scenario is corrupting your data.

Thanks for this. My gf started to freak out when this started to happen to her was thinking flash was only way to fix. I ran fix permissions in cwm and now working again no reflash! Saved the day
Find and flash the journal on zip to decrease the chances you will get this again. It usually caused by an improper shutdown.including running the battery all the way down.

Ok i have searched and searched and searched some more and can not find an answer. Hopefully i am placing this in the correct place.
I am currently running Synergy. I am having issues with receiving and sending pictures via messaging app (stock and I've also tried Handcent). I guess I can't even say its an issue, it just does not flat out work. I can not send or receive pictures.
When I receive a picture message, it comes through with a click able download button. Click it, and nothing happens for a few minutes. Them shortly after, I receive a notification stating, "Message not downloaded, Generic network failure"
Pretty much same goes for when trying to send one. It attaches fine and compresses for MMS but then I get pretty much the same notification a few minutes later, "Unable to send message after multiple attempts, Generic network failure."
I have attempted numerous ways of fixing this to no avail. I tried turning off WiFi, that didn't work. Re-flashed Rom, no go. I was thinking perhaps I need to update radios, pri,prl ect? I am trying to avoid a hard reset as i don't want to lose root. Any ideas on a fix?
I recently had this problem too. I found the fix here on the forum. If you have titanium back up you need to start it up. Click backup/restore then scroll down to [SMS/MMS PREFS] Messages 1.00. Click on that and then click wipe data. You will lose all your messages so back them up if you need them. Reboot your phone afterwards. This is what I did and it fixed this problem.

Thanks for the reply. That sure sounds like it would do the trick. I tried and it didn't work when I scroll down to mms preference in TB mine is 3.xxx (something) not 1.0 like you had said. Not sure what that's all about. I went ahead and cleared data anyway and rebooted. When I opened TB after restarting it still said I had 1 backup. So I'm thinking for some reason it didn't wipe it. Getting so frustrated.

@Orion1222
I tried the same thing and it didn't work at first. When following the post I didn't see any SMS/MMS/APN dialer that the post mentioned. I didn't see it because TB said the apps were ordered by name, but the sms/mms pref and apn dialer don't follow that rule.
Carefully look through and find both of them, then wipe the data and follow the rest of the #4 in the post.
I hope that helps!
Alright, so I was trying to use a program that some other people have said work fine but it wouldn't work, so I figured I would unroot/reroot and see if it helped. I restored the phone to factory settings, used the instructions that are readily available here and other places to unroot my phone and rooted it using the manual method (just like I did the day I got my phone) and tried to set everything back up, but have run into a few problems.
1) Text messaging
-I have used Handcent for a long time on old phones, and used it just fine on this phone, but when I got my phone set back up, texts were coming in from the wrong people. I would get a text from PersonA, but it would show up as PersonB and when I responded it would go to PersonB. The only way that I could respond to PersonA was to back out, go into the people app, choose PersonA and text them. When I did this, it would take me into the exact same thread but have PersonA's name at the top now. When PersonA responded, it would show up as PersonB again and I would have to do it all over.
2) Google Wallet
-Was working fine, even used it at McDonald's, but now when I try to load it up for the first time, it sits at a black screen until eventually it says "Wallet is not responding. Would you like to close it? (Wait) (OK)"
Oh, and the program that I originally went through all of this for is still giving me the same error about not being able to locate a partition to remount to write to. What do I need to do to get this thing back to working correctly?

This is happening to me! I am rooted, completely stock otherwise and using Handcent. Is this a handcent issue? Anyone have more insight into this?
I'm in the process of unrooting my phone again to see if it happens when I'm not rooted.
Update:
Unrooted, same issue with Google Wallet and messaging
Rooted again, same issue
I was kindof hoping that someone would have come in here by now with some "here, try this" or "yeah, that happened to me and this is how I fixed it" type post. Am I the first person that has run across these issues after flashing to stock files from code.google.com?
I'm on 2nd nexus and haven't had that issue with handcent on either phones. Stock or rooted..

Are you uninstalling and reinstalling your apps? Have you tried deleting your apps' respective caches?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Well the 3 obvious problems could be:
1) I am either following the steps to unrooting incorrectly. (I don't think that it is rooting that is causing the problem since I a) didn't have the problem before I unrooted the first time and b) the problem is recreated whether I am rooted or not.)
2) My phone is faulty
3) The files that I am using (downloaded directly from http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html) are damaged.
The MD5 matches the .tgz file.
Everything looks like it is going through correctly when I am flashing the files.
I don't think that I am following the instructions in correctly, so that narrows it down (in my head anyway). Has anyone else used the factory images for code.google.com? Have you tried running Google Wallet afterwards?

I have tried going into settings, force closing the app and clearing cache and I have tried resetting the phone to factory defaults. Neither changed how the app behaved. I still just get a black screen with the not responding message.
I did some more research into the Handcent problem, apparently it is fairly widespread on ICS and goSMS has the same issue. Stock is apparently not affected, so I am using that but it sucks...
I have seen a few of the GoSMS and Handcent posts, but I'm not completely sure that I am experiencing the same issue. Every post I have seen speaks of erratic problems. Mine is with every text message. Also, it didn't start happening until I flashed the factory images from code.google.com. Also, the problem only popped up when I started experiencing other problems (like with Google Wallet). Although we are having a similar issue, I believe the root problem of the issue is different, which is why the issues are slightly different.
Went and exchanged my phone today, rooted as soon as I walked in the door, installed everything back to the way that I had it and everything is working fine again. On my way to McDonald's for lunch.
Hello there,
I'm relatively new to XDA but I've heard that pretty much any problem can be solved through you guys. So here we go. I have an original HTC Incredible (hence the title) which is rooted and has the Android Business Gingersense 2.3.5 ROM installed. My problem is hard to explain, yet may be very simple. I simply cannot send or receive text messages to my knowledge.
So here are the details. Whenever I compose a text message in the native "Messages" app, I click send and the "Loading..." little window with the spinny circle pops up for a split second, disappears and nothing happens. It doesn't show me that the message was sent, nor does it give me an error message saying that it didn't send. Nothing. I have heard, however, from the people I sent the messages to that some of them did in fact go through, but I just didn't know they did cause it didn't show up on my screen. They also said they texted me back multiple times trying to get a hold of me to no avail, which is the other problem. I also cannot receive any messages. It may be that these issues are connected in some way but I am not sure.
Another problem. My native email app has the same sort of issue, only when I compose a message and hit send, it force closes the app saying, "an unexpected problem has occurred." Therefore I cannot send or receive emails as well. Quite inconvenient as many of you probably know.
One last issue involving the texting problem. May not have anything to do with the native sms app, but I believe there is still a possibility. I mainly text with Pinger's TextFree application, which not surprisingly has the same problem as the native app. Every time I try to send a message, NOTHING happens, yet I get reports from the people I "sent" the message to that they actually got the message and tried to get back up with me multiple times. Still, I didn't receive anything. But I did go on the web based version of the app and saw both of our messages between each other and the web app worked fine.
Any help at all is greatly appreciated and I hope I can get this resolved.
Thanks alot!
Almost sounds like a data/mms config problem. Are you able to receive any messages or emails at all?

Open the stock messaging app then hit menu - settings - connection settings, there will be 5 settings greyed out in there. What are the current settings for those 5?
Edit: Nevermind i forgot were talking about cm9, might not the same settings as sense. Better yet go to the market and download "apn backup and restore", do a backup and then go to the sdcard then the apn backup folder and then open the xml backup with a text editor and copy and paste its contents to here. You are on verizon correct?

Okay, I think I have figured it out. Before I reflashed, I deleted my Google account. Then, reflashed C9 and when prompted on reboot to sign into Google, I clicked "later".
So, now I received several test text messages I had sent the past 2 days.
So far, so good.
Also, when I restore from Titanium, I am only going to restore Apps, but not the System Data.
I think Google is somehow interfering with things. Maybe something funky with how my Google Voice is interacting with my phone. Who knows. Anyway, I will be sure to report back here to help others that may have similar problems.
Well, so far so good. When I re-installed Apps I de-selected Data.
Texting is fine now.
Perhaps it was the System Data from prior ROMs interfering with the current ROM?

One more follow-up. I now Restored all data for the apps separately through Titanium.
Texting still works.
I think when I flashed the new C9 ROM, when I restored Apps+Data in Titanium, something got screwed up and thus the texting function got screwed up.
Now able to send SMS texts but NOT receive them
I'm reviving this thread.
I have checked out a few other threads, and this comes the closest to describing my issues with my rooted unlocked (SEC OFF) HTC Droid Incredible (version 1).
I did NOT change ROMs -- right after getting the DINC, I installed a rooted stock deodexed GB 2.3.4 ROM from DINC.DOES-IT.NET, and I have not touched the ROM since.
BTW, the ROM build is 4.06.605.3 CL 140944 release-keys
Ditto baseband radios, no change. Version: 2.15.10.07.07
I did recently update the kernel to a version of gingertiny that allows apps to record phone conversations without the speakerphone being turned on.
Old version: 2.6.35.14-gingertiny-v2+ Feb 2012
New Version: 2.6.35.14-gingertiny-v2 Nov 6 2012
It is POSSIBLE that the problems started with the change of kernel, because I don't use texting very much at all, but that was still a few weeks ago.
Based on what I have read on XDA, I went into Clockwork Mod 5.x Recovery, deleted and reformatted the data cache, and rebooted.
After that, I could SEND but NOT RECEIVE text SMS.
I had some doubts about whether all my calls were ringing through properly. I am still not entirely sure, but test calls from a landline and mobile phone did ring the phone, so maybe that is no longer (or maybe was not ever?) a problem.
I have seen suggestions to do everything from reinstalling ROM (being sure to restore only apps+data, NOT system data) to flashing a new radio to running *228 over-the-air update to manually upgrading the PRL list.
And then there is the question I have about the kernel change somehow being the culprit...
EDIT: One other thing I did right before changing the kernel was run Convert2Ext4 v2.0 using the "no data limit normal dalvik" version. My reason for running this was to get rid of the low memory/no memory warnings, lockups and crashes I was expriencing despite having over 300MB left out of 775MB on internal memory.
How should I go about trying to restore the ability to receive SMS without totally bricking or otherwise disrupting my DINC and causing more harm than good?
The SMS issue is not a kernel-related issue. I'm reading and re-reading the thread and I'm not 100% positive on what caused the issue for you. Also the convert mod would have no impact on phone related features (data/SMS/calls). Also on the convert mod, the 750MB internal memory (/data) partition is not what was causing the low storage, it's the 150MB /data/data partition that HTC uses for app data/libs/cache.
Process of elimination says go back to the previous kernel from February and see if you have the texting issue. Go back to the same exact build and see if that fixes it. I'd be surprised if the kernel change caused it as a lot of people are using gingertiny without issue.
Also a couple of other thoughts. Are you using the stock SMS app or a third party? Try uninstalling any third party SMS apps temporarily if you have them. Last suggestion is to call Verizon and see if they have a block on receiving SMS. I don't think they would since you can send them and it has to be customer initiated.
Also, no where in your post did it say you tested SMS, just that you couldn't receive them so I'm guessing your conclusion is from the fact that someone said they sent it and you didn't receive them.

Thanks for having a look in, Tiny.
I use PagePlus running off VZW towers. PagePlus service rep sent me an SMS while I was in contact with her by phone, she said it got deducted from by cash balance. The only thing is, it did not actually reach my phone!
I have only used the stock SMS app until just yesterday, when I installed Handcent SMS. That did not help. Will uninstall, but I doubt that will make a difference.
Will go back to the old gingertiny kernel and see what that does, and report back here.
If that doesn't do it, maybe it's time for a Touch of Blue ROM, with which many seem to be doing so wiell...
Hey guys, I haven't seen anyone talking about this before, and if I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't believe it. My wife's phone is straight stock (I'm guessing fl24, or whatever the last ota was) unrooted firmware.
However we both have very different issues with our voicemail. Mine I'm not to concerned with, as its probably something I changed God knows where conflicting somehow.
Whenever she receives a voicemail she gets multiple copies, I'm talking hundreds of copies. I tested this by leaving a 3 second message that she then received 127 times.
Is anyone else seeing this, or is this possibly her phone going mental?
Just trying to get a take on this, see if it needs to be replaced or can be fixed here at home.
And to answer the obvious, yes - I cleared app data and cache.
No - I didn't delete and reinstall (unrooted remember?)
Thanks guys:beer:

Ok have her clear data then open the vvm app, go to menu and record a message doesnt matter what dead air is fine. Then send the message to [email protected] and wait a few mins til a return message comes in saying congratulations your account has been verified or something similar. Should fix it, it did when mine went haywire on aosp

Thank you, that fixed her issue so I figured I'd give it a shot with mine and no go.
For some reason it acts like it can't connect to verify my account, I get constant messages saying something about messages waiting to be sent. So far I've cleared data and cache, tried your suggestion, uninstalled and reinstalled, flashed a zip, and pushed the apk, no luck. I also tried prl and profile update thinking maybe the towers were not recognizing me, but that did nothing either.
I'm baffled LOL

With yours have you tried calling you vm (longpress 1 on dialpad) then listen and delete all the messages. Then turn off phone, call and leave a VM and turn it back on and see if it will provision. I had provisioning issues when there were messages on the network

Just called and I don't have any messages, so I shut down phone and powered back on, same deal. IDK wtf is going on LOL. Is there anything in the ##3282# menu that may have borked the vvm app?
I appreciate the help bro, this started as a minor annoyance but now its pissing me off LOL

Idk if theres anything in the data menu or not. You could always do ##786# > reset then when it boots ##72786# and reprovision the entire phone, just make sure you're as close to stock as possible, and before resetting go to about phone > status and write down your MIN incase you need to manually input it during the provisioning under ##72786# > edit.
Edit: you only need to write it down if the MIN 10-digit is different from your phone # sometimes its the same 10 digits and sometimes its entirely different.
