i looked in all the android forums without found a solution, this is my last hope...
Start situation:
Desire S-OFF
HBOOT 0.93 CM7r2
Recovery 4EXT TOUCH
ROM Runnymede AIO 5.0.1
What i did:
downloaded data++ hboot and checked MD5
flashed by bootloader with PB99IMG method
What happened:
the recovery didn't start properly, it reloaded in "safe mode" and still not working: "you have to format internal partitions"
What i tried:
flashed cw 5 and cw 3 both can load first screen but when i enter in a menu: black screen and freeze.
So i erase all partition and i flashed all possible kind of hboot and recovery via fastboot shell. no changes, i'm still unable to use a recovery or boot the device.
So i tried to flash a stock unrooted rom extracted from an official ruu, it overwrite all but the bootloader, at the end it doesnt boot, the device rests at the first screen (white background and green htc logo) for more than an hour.
What the device can do:
bootloader, fastboot, first recovery screen.
what can i do? please help me
[SOLVED]
i flashed the last RC version of 4ext via bootloader with PB99IMG ( http://www.4ext.net/PB99IMG.zip ) instead of flash it by fastboot shell and now my desire is back!
Erase storage from bootloader, connect USB, get into fastboot, fastboot erase cache, fastboot flash hboot 'hboot name here'.img, fastboot reboot-bootloader and touch recovery should work!

Try to reflash hboot, reboot, enter recovery to format all partition, reboot, re-enter in recovery and flash your rom*.
*Don't forget to choose a rom who fit in your /system

Maybe you can try to re-flash the recovery :
fastboot flash recovery 'recovery name here'

1) flash back previous hboot that was working fine.
2) format all partition without sd card
3) reflash hboot
you should be able to open recovery in normal mode.
I had the same problem as you last night when switching to stock hboot with touch recovery 8 but was fixed by doing what others have mentioned :s

u can try to check what happen when the screen goes black in recovery (try a stable one like CWM 2.5.0.7 or 5.0.2.0)..for example using adb to check the logs in the folder /cache/recovery/ (or something) and see if there is some error that can help you
anyway thats strange because the recovery to work correctly should need only /cache, /sdcard and trackball working..maybe one of these thing is broken in ur phone..

Hey, i've got a problem with my htc desire.
Today it crashed and i got a blackscreen. Then i restarded it, but it couldn't boot anymore, it boots till the HTC logo and then it restarts.
I can go to the bootloader, but when i choose recovery, only the HTC logo shows up and then the phone reboots again.

More information needed, S-off or on, hboot version, have you tried with fastboot commands, did you use AndroidFlasher from fastboot or bootloader...
S-oof,
HBOOT-6.93.1002
what fastboot commands?
I used AndroidFlasher from fastboot!
fastboot commands to flash recovery. would look like this
fastboot flash recovery C:\ recovery.img
where recovery.img is just put the name of the recovery u downloaded and assuming u put it in ur C drive
Sent from my HTC Desire
doesn't work, the image is in c:\ and is named "recovery.img" but ther comes the error: "cannot determine image filename for 'C:\recovery.img'"
i just posted 4ext recovery as PB99IMG in desire general, take a look n try it
Sent from my HTC Desire
You downloaded the right img, did you? From the 4ext Recovery Thread i found this link: http://www.4ext.net/ddl/bravo/recovery.zip
It should just be download, extract, run command in fastboot mode. Make sure you entered the right path.
Hi,
I've brought a desire cheap as a temporary phone while my sensations off being repaired (Smashed screen!) It came with a CM7 ROM installed which i'm not keen on, so i'm attempting to flash the RUU_Brav2_UK_1.20.207.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_124865 from the RUU thread on here. You have cm7r2 hboot which gives you only 145MB for system partition and RUU requires stock partition table (250MB for system).
Flash alpharev stock hboot via fastboot, it can be obtained here:
alpharev.nl
After that run RUU, it should work perfectly.
Plus:
Reconsider using some other RUU the one you used is history old. Try with 2.3 RUU.

Hi,
Yeah, i've tried installing them but nothing seemed to happen, i've gone in to device manager and changed drivers so instead of "My HTC" it now shows as "Android Bootloader Interface" but it still sits on "Waiting for device." Are there any ROMS that use the CM7 r2 available as a RUU package?

Hi
I've looked on here already to try to find a (working) solution for my problem but haven't so far. My HTC desire was
downgraded from ICS to a gingerbread rom successfully - however - upon trying to unlock (unbrand) my phone the
software was stopping this so i tried to install a stock rom on it via usb cable. It downloaded successfully and rebooted.
But when it restarted it stuck on the "htc" loading screen. The only way i can turn it off is to remove the battery - also
when i try to enter recovery it just sticks on the HTC screen too.
This is what it says on the HBOOT screen:

If you want it neat and clean to start from beginning, download alpharev downgrade hboot, flash it via fastboot (follow the instructions from site), download 2.3 RUU from htcdev, unpack it and run from your PC.
The previous attempt to return to stock GB ended with failure because you have revolutionary hboot which is write protected and hboot and radio can't be flashed. So, you had the old radio on your device (RADIO-4.05.00.11) and GB needed a newer one and after flashing it didn't want to boot.
With downgrade you will unlock write protection and RUU will overwrite both hboot and radio.

Hi again, thank you for your reply. I'm new to this and when i ran through the instructions on alpharev, it didnt work so im obviously doing something wrong, and don't want to mess it up so could you please say whether this is the correct way to do it
From the instructions on alpharev its goes as:
1) nandroid backup in recovery - I have 4ext recovery, so i just basically click "backup" right?
2) download bravo_downgrade.img
3) go into hboot (power+back button)
Now this is the bit im confused about:
fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' (change into the correct filename for the HBOOT you downloaded)
4) 'fastboot reboot-bootloader'
5) 'fastboot erase cache'
6) Boot recovery, wipe everything and restore.
I don't see these options available to me, is this because I have 4ext and just need the normal clockworkmod?
Thankyou.

Strange, why it is in bootloop, were you doing anything at the time?
A few things I can think of:
- Repair your volume buttons, look for a youtube guide. It's useful to have your volume buttons working anyway.
- If you don't want to hardware fix, I think you could potentially try fastboot commands to flash 4EXT recovery. CWM is useless as you can't navigate inside CWM with broken volume keys, and 4EXT is better anyway e.g. for partitioning sd card.
- Setup adb and fastboot, and flash the 4ext recovery.img using fastboot. (Get into fastboot by "back+power")
- Try to boot into recovery with by forcing a reboot: "fastboot reboot-bootloader" to get back to bootloader screen
- Press power to select "reboot", or try your luck again volume key to get to recovery.
- Then "adb reboot recovery" no guarantee this will work as never tried it.
- If you get to recovery, make a nandroid backup. Then try to reflash the ROM without wiping anything, see if it boots.
- Last resort is to flash an RUU and s-off again to get it booting, but the volume button issue will remain.
Eventually if you install mildwild or similar ROM again, it's best to flash the ROM on a smaller hboot, as you're still on stock hboot and wasting a lot of space.
There is a way to boot recovery using fastboot, so basically setup adb & fastboot using eddies guide then get recovery.img (4ext as pb99img in my sig, just extract the file) put the recovery.img in ur fastboot folder on pc then boot ur phone into fastboot (back + power) plug in ur phone to pc then open command window n type
fastboot boot recovery.img
That should boot u into recovery
