[FIX] Lag fix for cm10 based roms (cm10, paranoid android, jellybro) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I posted this in the other two forums and didn't wanna leave you sprint folks out.
I have a fix for the lagginess in builds from the past week and a half or so. The culprit is the surface flinger library. It is the android compositing system and some changes recently made to it are responsible for the significant lag in recent builds. Most noticeable spot is if you hit the home button if you have the notification drawer down. It becomes extremely laggy without this patch. Scrolling is also less smooth whenever multiple things on the screen are being drawn. This fixes all those issues.
Just flash this in cwm or whatever recovery you choose. Should work on all cm10 builds and cm10 based roms like paranoid android.

Thanks. I was looking for hours trying to figure out why all the builds from past like august 22nd 23rd were really laggy. Figured it out after messing with files for hours and reading cm10s github and gerrit pages.

yes i flashed this over CNA

I love you. Does anyone in CM know about this issue? So that they can correct it?

For any fellow LMT users: This also seems to have drastically decreased the lag you get with your pie buttons (more specifically, the back button). I think Paranoid fans will dig it. I do!

Wow, I've been messing with every setting possible to fix the drawer from lagging the way it did knowing everything else was butter smooth. You have de-stressed me :'). Awesome Fix!

Just tried, figured what could go wrong. Great find instant notice improvement. This needs to be shared.

PA 2.0 instant results, good stuff man thanks!:good:

It may be too early to tell but it seems like my on screen buttons respond better with this patch. I'm used to having to screen off to repair the responsiveness of my buttons. I'm using pa, lean kernel and an xgear fantom.

Question- choppy/unstable Bluetooth?

K so when I fist got my gnex I could use it with my Bluetooth speakers from a far range I could be like two rooms away and could still here it fine and it would be smooth. That was stock. Now that I'm rooted and running aokp it is horrible. I can't be more than 4 or 5 feet from the speakers without it cutting in and out and being really unusable.... would this be the rom (aokp M5) or the kernel (latest Franco nightly)?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Could be either, especially if AOKP is using the wrong bcmdhd.cal for the device.

You answered your own question. Go back to stock if you need things to work properly. Custom roms are experimental at best, since they introduce all kinds of problems, including app incompatibility, hardware instability and broken features (like voicemail notifications not working).
Good luck.

Sorry it took long lol I'm at work so I had to go on chrome and try to get it on there then I had to zip it with androzip ....

Looking at it now.
Well, it is the right one. I know the Verizon version has been modified to fix choppy BT. It may or may not work for you. You are welcome to try it, but back up your current one.
Okay thanks I will try it when I get home

[ROM] [toro+] The Orca Project by Drew Garen (anyone tried this?)

Seems pretty legit so far, stable and plenty of options. Didn't see a Dev thread so didn't know who was running this ROM. Its available on goo manager under drewgaren. If the Dev wants this gone just let me know! Loving the ROM so far though!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Drew doesnt exactly have the best rapport around these parts lol, good dev yes but many would consider him shady for multiple reasons.
Didn't know that, knew ID seen his name many times before but wasn't aware of shady activities
Sent from my toro+ via Tapatalk
I tried his ROM a couple weeks ago. It wouldn't even boot. It was the updated one in the toro section on goo.im. the only time I don't have a ROM boot is when there's something wrong with it.
Booted fine for me and running beautifully with ak pirate kernel. May be a keeper!

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I just can't seem to stay on PA, the pie feature is cool but doesn't seem to work right all the time
Sent from my toro+ via Tapatalk
Yeah everyone says PA.. Honestly I think the orca ROM can do what PA does then more.. I been running it since the update and my old prob is the ram usage...
Edit: also has anyone else tried that awesome auto hide navbar? I like it more then pie.. IMO its more responsive.. And pie just took to long open its nice eye candy though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Just loaded this on.
I have to say I like a lot of the features like auto hide navbar, custom colors in messaging, phablet mode, etc.
I tried PA for the PIE mode, but wasn't impressed enough to keep it loaded.
I'll let it bake for a few days and see if I still like it at the end of the weekend.

Care substantiate such a claim which has likely deterred a bunch of people from trying this rom?
Out of all the 4.2.2 roms out right now, Orca Project in my opinion is at the top right now. I've had no problems with it, not one crash, and it's very efficient with great battery life, especially given how many customizations it's loaded with. Best of all I never had to get off my pink unicorn at TWRP riding into Orca Project.
I'm running it and I have been for a while I just tried switching to jellybro but I missed this ROM I flashed back within minutes lol. But I still wanna know what he's talking about...
Edit: actually I just realized this ROM looks a lot like carbonrom

Taking somebody's work without giving credit is just morally wrong, but doesn't mean its a good clean ROM. I was thinking like he was virus, credit card logging shady.

Back in the DX days he was known to take other devs work and label it as his own. That being said orca runs nice but is riddled with scripts that dont work, are incomplete, conflicting, and proven tweaks to have no effect. I also dont like the idea of him trying to disable v-sync. Although I do like the name

[rom][aokp/vanir]ak47

I'm having two problems on this rom for some reason. I'm getting lockups in Chrome browser, the second time I did a battery pull because of it I had to re enter my password for Chrome. I also will be around 50+ battery life, reboot and I'm down to 15%. It's there any way I can find out what's causing this?

I don't use Chrome so I can't speak to issues with it. A logcat could help though. The stock kernel is pretty extreme on some settings as well so possibly switch the kernel or tweak the settings. I'll probably be going to Lean Kernel in future releases just for stability but still highly suggest AK kernel.
As far as the weird battery stats, that happens on all roms from time to time. If you reboot again it will possibly go back to normal. It doesn't happen often but it does happen, especially on a lookup or hard reboot.
Bump ....

What do you plan on doing to improve the radios? The only change is the way the system determines bars from the dBm measurement. Roms don't impact signal. And radios can't be altered.
The audio on this Rom is much softer than rootbox or some others I tried. Am I missing something? I set up noxide as usual, but just not the same performance from the sound.
Rom is sick otherwise though.
