This is my first thread on XDA so forgive me if I put it in the wrong place etc. I just picked up a gsm galaxy nexus and flashed it to stock jelly bean, everything went smooth and it was successful. I also have it rooted. Anyway whenever I play music and turn the screen of the and turn it on the lock screen is black with the no background and the cover art is partially blocked by the status bar. Is there a fix for this or is that just how it is.
I don't have any screenshots but I will upload soon.
Normal behaviour. Get used to it.

Really? Cause on my Nexus 7 it was normal, anyway at least it isn't a major issue and its not affecting anything else. I guess its just a cosmetic thing.

Because the nexus 7 is a tablet.. and has the tablet/phone lock screen ui to it so it only shows the small album art up at the top. the DPI is small enough for that.

It just does. Google thinks it looks nicer, I suppose, and I have to agree. People could use very colourful wallpapers, that plus an "psychedelic" album art, and you end up in a perfect mess.

Not sure if this is possible but I would pay to see an app/mod that allows only the status bar to be displayed when the screen is off. I had Pandora hang on me this morning with a black screen and just the status bar visible and it showed all the info I need to know at a quick glance. Hope this is the right section, debated on weather this should be in the General section but mods move if you wish.
So you wanna shut off 95% of the screen only? Highly unlikely.

With the Super AMOLED Plus display, black color = pixel off (screen off for that part) so If there is way to wake the screen and show a black screen with just a notification, what the OP wants IS possible... I think some apps have the ability to wake the screen, i think the issue is the lock screen would show, no?

There is something for the Nexus S becasue it doesn't have the LED light. I think it's called "no led" or something similar on the Market. It will display notifications on the screen while the phone is sleeping.

I had that app for my NS4G and thats not what I want nor did it work very well.
But NoLED is where I got the idea from. If they can display that info why can't someone write an app that displays just the notification bar?
Thank you japper88 for clarifying the screen tech to the 2nd poster.
A black background for all but the notification would be fine but a) the lockscreens gonna show unless you find a way to disable it completely which would then go straight to your homescreen and b) i wouldnt think you could keep 95% of the screen off which is what your asking to do isnt it? If so i dont care what screen you have i highly doubt thats possible.
Maybe modding the lockscreen with a black wallpaper and removing the clock would work.

Again, when the screen displays black #000000 the pixels are off. That is the beauty of the SAMOLED+ screen. It is also like that with the SAMOLED used in the NS4G. It is possible to do what I'm asking. Just need some direction from another section on this board witch is what I'm doing. I will post here when I get it working.

Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong section.
I'm looking to buy the Galaxy Nexus but I truly hate the idea of a softkey bar as I feel there is little point to having such a beautiful screen only to remove some of it with a black bar.
Is there a way to remove them while staying on the stock rom? I already bought HoneyBar for Honeycomb on the 10.1/7+ but the dev appears to have given up on removing the softkey bar for ICS. I know that custom roms on the Galaxy Nexus have the option but I would appreciate any word on this. My only option aside from the Galaxy Nexus is...nothing as no other Verizon 4G LTE phone clicked with me.
I don't hate softkeys however. Button Savior is hands down my favorite app.
Without them there'd be no way of closing/opening/changing apps so they're kinda here to stay

Thank you for the link being posted so quickly. I really appreciate it.
I'm going to go read the GummyNex thread more thoroughly to understand if its softkey option is what I wanted.
Thank you guys again.
In my opinion the soft keys are not a waste of screen real estate because they are only there when having the entire screen is pointless anyway. They go away when watching YouTube, Netflix, videos, looking at images, etc. So the entire screen gets utilized when it really counts.

Yes but what about web browsing, remote desktop to name a couple? shame the soft keys stop you from using the whole screen
It'll happen. I don't think the issue here is removing them completely but hiding them on command like in Honeycomb.
It comes in handy for playing games like emulators and such. Certain apps can hide the bar so it is possible to issue that same command on demand.
I wouldn't hold up a purchase over something so trivial. It WILL happen but Google patched the trick in Honeycomb.
I think an auto hide would be cool then use a gesture to restore them or just use gestures as navigation. Could get ugly in certain apps though.
Maybe have a CM9 toggle...
LTE EX Galaxy Nexus - AOSP KANG
Asus Transformer - 3.2.1 OC/UV
Having a button in the notification bar to hide the buttons would be cool. But seriously must devs will update they're apps to utilize this feature as it goes.

Anyone else notice that it gets a little jittery when you're on the app drawer and you hit the home key? When the icons do that zoom out, it's not as smooth as the rest of the phone usually is. It's minor, I know, but I'm starting to think maybe Apple has a patent on a smooth UI (that's a joke).
I've also noticed bad performance with live wallpapers on the home screens, it's really rough with most live wallpapers. I previously had the Epic 4G Touch (Galaxy S 2) and it was ALWAYS smooth as butter, even with live wallpapers... when running the stock TouchWiz UI. So while the processor/gpu in the GS2 is probably better, it seems to me like it's more of a software issue.
It doesn't bother me enough to want to go back to the Galaxy S II, mind you, physically this phone is superior and I sure love me some vanilla ICS... but are any of you noticing this with custom ROMs as well?
EDIT: I wanted to add, I've tried Nova & Apex, and I didn't notice a difference in this regard.
When you tried Apex did you turn on the setting that saves your home screen in memory? I have noticed almost zero lag with this option selected

It seems to help just a little with live wallpapers when sliding between homescreens, but it has zero effect on how jittery it is when you're in the app drawer and you hit the home button (when the icons "fly away" and you go back to the home screen).
I dont have any App drawer to Home lag.
Every stock LWP except "Phase Beam" lags afaik. Kinda sucks but how it is.

I will confirm that the zoom out animation when hitting home from the app drawer is not as smooth as it should be. My old Samsung Fascinate is on AOKP and the transition out of the app drawer is actually smoother than my Nexus. I wouldn't call it lag but it's definitely not as smooth as it should be.

On this phone, yes. On the Galaxy S2... no.
To contradict the apple joke, I have an iPod touch 4th Gen and my friend has an iPhone 4S, both of them get laggy transitions after a while, especially after opening a few apps. I'm on stock and have zero lag. Nova had less then apex from what I've used.

Same for me ..
The live wallpapers all lag, but its gotta be a software issue not yet fixed.
The app drawer fly away animation is weird, cause I do see that stutter sometimes. But then a lot of the time its smooth. Not sure what that's all about. But I'm of the opinion that everything can be smoothed with a software tweak.

These forums exist for many reasons including discussing problems, right? This is an obvious problem and I'd like to discuss it. Thanks.
Your solution here is to live with it or get a different phone and you've been "thanked" at least a couple of times for it. That's super constructive. Do you honestly not understand why I brought up the Galaxy S2 as a comparison, or do I need to draw pictures?
Am I the only one that finds it frustrating that Google's flagship device doesn't perform as well as other devices in something as simple as homescreen transitions or opening/closing the app drawer?
IMO its the soft key glow animations causing the "lag". There's a mod which I have done which shortens the length of the glow animations, its basically eliminated the lag you are talking about.

Nope it drives me crazy too. I have started using Apex launcher with the widgets tab hidden so its just apps and its better but still jitters a bit. I even get jitters and lag on the lockscreen. I turned auto brightness off which helped but from time to time it lags crazy if i swipe fast.
Its not good enough.
My friend and my wifes best friend have nexus s's and they perform a lot better than my Gnex with the stock launcher which is just embarrising.

So...what did you accomplish by bringing up the GS2?
Did you...fix your problem?
Did you...make yourself feel better?
We all get it, the GS2 doesn't lag on live walls. Well, guess what? This one does, like most android devices. This is a fact, and it may or may not get fixed. So really, bringing the GS2 into any conversation regarding the Galaxy Nexus is NOT constructive. Comparing the GS2 to this device is going to be met with irritated folks because we have been listening to it for the last 6 months. I am sure I am not speaking only for myself when I say I am sick and tired of it.
This is not a PC. We can't just go throw extra parts in it, and upgrade the hardware. Therefore, the only solution to your problem is another device. I am sorry if it offends you, but it is a fact. Take the good with the bad, or find another device that is better for you. This is how the smartphone world works.
Seeing as how some were concerned with burn-in/didn't want the status bar I'm releasing a first step towards it.
The status bar has been removed, however apps don't seem to reclaim it. I'll be working on this tonight/tomorrow and post any updates on it.
This is for Bigxie's v1 version of JB.
Update:
Adding a fullscreen version that permanently remains fullscreen after 2-3 force closes (There's only a few but they stop after a minute or two and I've yet to have any issues with anything else though I haven't extensively tested it).
XDA is having issues with photos for me, screenshot is here: http://postimage.org/image/yx6en8kif/

one questions: are only the icons removed or the hole status bar includig the black background?
the status bar doesn't burn in. the rest of the screen just loses brightness, whereas the status bar is black and doen't emit light. the oleds in this section and in the softbutton-section don't lose brightness because they aren't used that much. that's crappy, cause it is pretty good visible after just a couple of months of usage.

The whole status bar is gone, you can't even slide it down or anything. Also could you elaborate on the losing brightness part please?
Also if anyone else has ideas I'm willing to try them. Causing the SystemUI to crash it enters the correct full screen for a min or two, but that isn't permanent nor ideal.
especially the blue subpixels lose brightness the older they get. entering fullscreen mode, let's say watching a movie, shows, that the status bar and onscreen buttons area are more blue than the rest of the screen. this is because these areas weren't used that much.
samoled is very crappy when it comes to longevity. especially for power users it's really bullsh... i had it on every samsung samoled so far. only omnia 7 with windows phone doesn't show these "burned icons" because it's mostly running in full screen, except you touch the status bar, then the icons pop in.

I've only tested it on bigxie's v1
strange as it it is system.apk or system UI if I'm right , so must be the same on JB ROMs
I apologize if a thread like this has already been started, but last night I managed to screw up my Note 2 by installing Chainfire 3D and softbircking it. No problem there, I managed to fix it by flashing the stock ROM and re-rooting from the files located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883823. Fast forward to today, I just noticed that when I tap the lock screen with my S Pen, There is no ink spill animation. I don't really have a problem with it not being there, but that feature was just so cool LOL. Any way to reenable it? I know it's not important, but that small, tiny feature was just so cool it irks me that it's not working.
