hi. i would appreciate some help.
I am using a Desire HD w/ Lord's Icecoldsandwhich 8.6.1.
The notification bar has recently become stuck while in portrait mode. This happened about a day after doing a full wipe and flash of ics8.6.1.
I have tried full wipe/ factory reset, randomblain's Jellytime r5.1, exists aospx...the problem has continued. I have set the phone to show visual response to touch and there is no response in the area of the notification bar; however the rest of the screen/ buttons function perfectly.
If you can offer any help, it would be much appreciated. Thankyou.

p.s. I've searched the forums and I could only find a similar issue posted about an EVO 4G user, however there was no conclusive help, only the suggestion to get the phone replaced.
it is possible to be a kernel problem? i have tried reflashing just the kernel, but no improvement so far.
any assistance is much appreciated. sorry for my english.

Just out of curiosity, are you using a Sense 4 theme from the market?
Hi. Thank you for your reply.
No, I always use the default theme that comes with the ROM. I also use the default launcher or Nova if available that comes with the Rom. No additional widgets or extras as well.

Might be a bad flash, I haven't heard of others that had it (as in, your's might be unique).
Here's a somewhat unlikely scenario, but go to developer options>show touches. Then tap the notification bar. If you don't see a touch up there, then it might be another issue altogether.

As I mentioned in the OP i enabled visual touch response and there was no response from the notification area. If I turn the phone on its side and enable landscape mode, the "portrait notification area" which becomes the left side of the screen still gives no response.
I understand this lends strongly to the idea that the phone is damaged, however I came across a post written by an Evo 4G user with a similar issue, except he was able to solve the problem by re-flashing an updated kernel. Unfortunately, I have tried this with no results.
Thank you for your reply ...it seems that this problem is uncommon and I am begin to doubt the availability of a software/firmware based solution.

Hi Guys,
I am currently using a Cell Pro Rom and I find that my it keeps flipping to landscape too often when I have my phone in portrait.
I always have to give it a shake to fix itself and it does get a bit annoying.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
(I remember I may have (not certain) that I might have changed the Sensor registry when I first got it, but I am not certain, does anyone know the default measurements?)
Any ideas are welcomed.
Many thanks in advance!
Did you ask in the Cell Pro ROM thread? Seems a more logical place to ask. I tried that one out and did not have the issue you are describing. Good ROM too.
There is a G-Sensor Calibration in Settings- System.

I'm fearing the fact that I may have changed something in the registery as I got all excited the day i got the phone and went through the tweaks in the wiki.
I am not certain if I made any changes regarding the g sensor so I was wondering if anyone knows the defaults or if there is a .cab or ROM to flash to system restore.
Any clues?
Many thanks in advance
To me the g-sensor is a gimmick. I find it annoying and totally useless so I've turned mine off altogether. If I want the screen to rotate I push the keyboard out. I really don't see any use for it.
I did think the only use I had for it was the face down hands free thing but have since decided that I'd be quite happy to push a button for that. Hardly a hassle.

Greetings all,
[Backstory]
I've been flashing ROMs for about a year now. I started off with Virtuous Team Gingerbread and the Sense 3.x ROMS. I had no issues.
Then I moved to CM7, and MIUI, also on Gingerbread. No problems.
I've been using the CM9/CM10 ROMs since they appeared for the Incredible 2, from AOKP and Aeroevan, respectively.
Here is where the problems start.
[Problem]
On ICS and JB ROMs, I get what I have dubbed (there is probably a better name for it) "Phantom Touch Input".
At first I thought this was caused by normal bugs and glitches in the ROM. I did my best to deal with it. Usually a simple lock/unlock would solve the issue, temporarily.
So what would happen? Without touching the screen, I would get the long press menu to show up, and then the screen and capacitive buttons would freeze. Or the screen would start to slowly half scroll to the side, and again, freeze.
The most annoying part is when I am typing on the phone. I have tried other keyboards, be it from the MIUIv4, or the default keyboards of 4.0.x, 4.1, or 4.2. All the sudden random keys are pressed, and continue to be pressed, even when my fingers are nowhere near the screen.
However, no one else seems to have this issue, so it looks like I am the lone wolf here with this problem.
Can anyone provide insight? A possible fix? Or am I forced to deal with this on all 4.x ROMs?
---
UPDATE 1: Issues also occurred on CM7.2, so I may be facing a hardware issue.
UPDATE 2: Issues occurred in 4ext Touch. Looking around on YouTube, others (Incredible S users) have similar issues.
Nearly confirmed as a hardware issue.
Check Page 2 for video links.

Not exactly sure, I would say its hardware if it happens on all the roms. Have you went back to CM7 or MIUI since this problem started? I would revert back to one of them and test for a couple of days to see if the problem continues. If the problem is only active in ICS or JB then someone else will have to give you a hand on a resolution.

Ok will do when I have the chance.
Thanks for the speedy reply.
But let's say it is a hardware issue...
Do I unroot/restore/whatever and bring it back to Verizon?
Thanks.

Yes if the phone is still under warranty
I'm so fresh you can suck my nits...
Flashed CM 7.2
My home button didn't work, but that doesn't really matter.
I still experienced the same issues.
On a side note, wow CM7.2/Gingerbread is smooth....damn kernel. But stock 2.3.x is so ugly
Anyways, it seems like I should just "start clean".
I'm not sure what that entails - not just a full wipe...something more...tips?

I use 4ext recovery myself, and I do a "full wipe" by format all partitions/factory data reset, then I see a lot of people also say wipe cache and dalvik so I throw that in as well, it don't take long but just in case a factory reset don't get them I just do it...lol. Hope that helps, and that may clear up some bugs with ICS and JB roms if you weren't doing that before. Just make sure you do a backup before wiping everything. Wouldn't want you to be without a phone if some process hiccups.
Thanks for the info.
Should I do anything with my SD card? It shouldn't affect ROM performance, but a wipe wouldn't be a bad idea, yes?

I doubt that the SD card would affect the performance, but as long as you have backups of everything you can do as you please, backup backup backup. You don't want to lose everything, trust me I have seen bad things happen to guys that don't backup, and I have learned from experience as well.
Right right I know.
I'll try 4ext on a fresh ROM and see how things go.
Not a good idea to flash the touch version of 4ext in light of my issues.
Did a Nandroid, hit back, then screen input froze. The on-screen time is updating, but are the capacitive buttons are lit up but do not respond/give haptic feedback, let alone the touch screen itself. Power button just moves to the power menu, where I again cannot select anything.
Pulling battery :/
This is why I will never (want to) purchase a phone without a removable battery.
So looks like my issue isn't software related. (This issue can in no way be software related [or even caused by], right?)
I've had the phone for over a year...but I guess I'll try with Verizon.
*sigh*
What a pain.
Looks like I am certainly not alone.

That looks like possibly a bad digitizer, you can replace that fairly cheaply if you are out of warranty. That would be my best guess, and keep in mind I am no expert. Here is a link so you can see the process:

That is what I was thinking.
I'll also see if I can milk anything out of Verizon. I'm already an unhappy customer, given the lack of ICS, especially when promised.
Yep, digitizer.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had issues. Hopefully word spreads, especially to those still under warranty who are suffering from a faulty digitizer.
Problem: Cannot turn on the screen by pressing the power button sometimes. The screen is black or very dim, I cannot tell. One can see nothing on the screen, and it doesn’t accept any touch input, either. The phone still rings if there’s an incoming call. If this happens, the following several presses (about 10 - 20) on the power button will probably lead to a reboot. The “screen auto-rotate” and the proximity sensor may fail after the reboot, but will recover after a manual reboot.
Frequency: Fewer with higher Rom version. About once per day for 4.3.
Other description:
The problem frequently happens when I just take the phone outside my house/office, and seldom happens when the phone just stays somewhere.
The problem seems to be irrelevant to the remaining battery capacity or the uptime, but it never happens when charging.
The problem seems to be irrelevant to the Apps installed.
The problem seldom happens in the first 3-4 days after flashing a Rom, but happens more and more frequently as time goes by. My guess is some cache is stuffed by some trash, which causes the problem. The phone may be fine as long as the trash can be cleaned up on a regular basis.
I manually reboot my phone at most every two days.
Solutions tried, but don’t work
Flashing official ROMs 4.0.4, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2.2 and 4.3 following the procedure “adb reboot bootloader; fastboot oem unlock; flash-all; fastboot oem lock”, without google wallet, not rooted.
Turning off the auto-brightness control, as suggested by some post on the Internet.
Does it look like it goes to standby normally or does the screen show gibberish and then turns off?

Thank you very much.
I think it's standing-by normally even through the screen is black (or very dim, I cannot tell), since it rings if there's an incoming call. I can see nothing from the screen, and I don't think the screen accepts any touch input, either.
Does this answer your question? Thank you.

Was just asking if you had gibberish yes or no. In that case i've got a different issue than you (Suspecting f*cked GPU).
Have you tried a different ROM/Kernel combination maybe it's related to that.

LagFix does NOT help in my case. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
I've also had this blank screen with calls still ring issue for as long as I can remember, nearly 2.5 yrs.
I've always suspected it's my ROM and so I'd try out another ROM'S, BUT no other ROM works like how I'd like, so I always come back to my ROM.
It doesn't happen every single day, but it does happen very often.
I've tried using apps that auto reboot daily, but eventually this blank screen issue will return.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find any solution, so I just put up with it, it's like the 1 only flaw with my ROM.
&
Not to be at all rude, but I'm really glad op has had this issue from testing other versions of Android, cause then at least I know I don't need to give up my great tablet mode ROM.
LOL
I think I've finally found a work around for this screen of death.
Using Exposed, download/install this module/extension:
Disable Proximity
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.mrchandler.disableprox
It does exactly what it's name is and ever since then I've not once had to remove my GN battery to work again because the screen went completely dead.
NVM
Screen still goes dead.
Anyone find an actual fix to this?
isajoo,
I had pretty much the same problems with my Galaxy Nexus running CyanogenMod 11 M12.
It got better by doing the following :
Blowing dry air in the earpiece… though the proximity sensor is clearly beside it. Can't do any harm though, I guess.
Settings/Applications/All/menu/Reset applications preferences (or whatever that's called in english) : that seemed to do a lot of good to my phone ! However, it's a very unsatisfactory answer on a technical point of view, as I still don't know WHAT was precisely needed. It's a "magic wand" solution for which I can't give an explanation.
Not specifically related, but greatly helped my phone in the responsiveness area : Trimmer (fstrim) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fifthelement.trimmer), an updated version of LagFix that you may already know
Hope that helped !
(I wanted to try http://www.androidlegend.com/how-to-perform-proximity-sensor-calibration-on-any-samsung-phone/ as well, but apparently, /sys/class/sensors/proximity_sensor/prox_cal does not exist on my phone…)
Hi everybody,
I've got a 16Gig nexus 5x which I recently purchased, and everything works fine but I have a very silly problem, but definitely critical to me.
I just have a problem with the backspace button of the keyboard which sometimes it seems very laggy. I mean when I write something and want to clean it with the backspace button and push it bunch of times it works with lag.
I tested all other buttons on keyboard and also tested a bunch of other keyboards but the problem is still existing.
Can anybody please help me with this issue? It can be a harware problem? I mean tauch problem?
I will really appreciate if anyone just gives me a hand with this....

I've the same problem as you. My keyboard would lag sometimes especially on the far right side of the screen. It would lag for a sec or two and goes back to normal.
Anyone else having the same problem??
Thank you buddy,
So you think It is software or hardware problem?
I've just checked my keyboard in both portrait and landscape and all the buttons respond very well. Maybe it's the rom your on? If your on stock I would say it might be your phone. Another thing I found after running a quick google search is that it seems most people complain about this while the phone is charging. If so then your not the only one but I've never noticed this myself.

No problems here.
Try clearing keyboard cache and data.
I'm also having the same problem. I'm on stock. Tried clearing keyboard cache. Replaced the keyboard with third party one. Still no progress.
I'm having the same issue with the back button while clearing text, it's intermittent, doesn't happen all the time. I'm on PureNexus ROM.
I've tried different ROMs and different third party keyboards and still I have the issue. Now I have pure stock ROM... It's so annoying to me. I really want to look for reason and solution..
Same thing here. Its most noticeable when using backspace.
Go into developer mode and force GPU rendering. That should solve your problem.
I did, but still have the issue... Nothing happened...the same lag is still on going...

Thanks a million for it :good:
MHC19J is the latest stock android build for the nexus 5X. After the March security update (build number MMB29V) a further update was released incorporating a few other changes with the build number MHC19J.
The MHC19J build has been widely reported to help with the 5X in several areas such as performance and memory usage for a lot of (but not all) people.
You can either wait for your phone to receive the update which is rolling out slowly, or flash it manually by downloading the factory image from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images - I chose to download and flash the whole image which wipes all your data etc but does give you a nice fresh install. Just make sure you back everything up first.

Sorry to hear the update hasn't helped you. It vastly improved (but did not eliminate) by keyboard falling behind while I was typing then suddenly catching up on the missed words I had typed.
I'm on MHC19J and I still have that Keyboard lag. Especially when pressing 'Backspace'. Tried many Customs roms. Custom kernels. Hasn't solved my problem yet.
I upgraded from a G2 to N5X. And i'm regretting the decision i made. Not only G2 didn't had any problems with touchscreen. It didn't even had touchscreen lag like on N5X. Whenever i'm typing it feels like keyboard is catching up to me after few milisecs which is frustrating to say the least.

So.. recently i've got this problem where i can't pull my notification bar when you on other apps. But, if you're on homescreen, you can pull notification bar with no problem at all. Another weird thing is, you can pull the notification bar when you put your phone on landscape mode. Been asking this problem on local Poco Community but none of the tips works. Been looking on website, and it state you can fix this by resetting the system settings (not full factory reset). Sadly, I can't find that option on my Poco F3. Only total factory reset

Thanks, but sry, been tryin that too. Restarting the phone not helping at all. Been tryin almost all the tips, except factory reset which i avoid. I think this is a bug, since it was fine before. The phone didn't even fall, turned of, etc. It just.. instantly went like this
Are you using a glass protector? It can mess with the gestures sometimes if it is not applied correctly. Also, try pulling down from as high up as you can. Also try changing to the old control center style and see if that works.

I think you will have to back up your data and do a factory reset. If that doesnt work, i would suggest unlocking your bootloader and installing a custom rom like xiaomi.eu if you like miui or crdroid/evolution x if you prefer an AOSP based rom. That will probably fix it for you. If you are not familiar with the whole custom rom scenario and dont want to take any risks, just take it to a xiaomi store and see what they can do.
