Hello xda,
It seams that I somehow got two small scraches on my brand new HOX. What really bugs me is that the HOX has Gorilla Glass on it so it should be scrach resistent. Has anyone else got anything like it? Is it covered by the waranty?
Any help is more than welcomed.

I really am sorry if there was another thread out there regarding this subject but I was unable to find it. Honnestly, I really searched for any similar threads but... no results.

Gorilla Glass V2 is not scratch resistant at all as HTC say. GG V1 was - end of story, u don't need to look whole thread now. Happy ?
Harsh response... but an answer non the less. For that... I thank you.

yes it is? it has a hardness of about 9h on the mohs scale. that would equal scratch resistant.
@ the OP. i've said this to soooo many people already, it is scratch resistant, scratches aren't covered by warranty, and the fact it has scratched means at some point sand/grit or similar has been on the screen and unfortunately scratched it.
thing that winds me up is people making out as if that a screen being scratchable is a manufacturer fault, and that somehow it scratched itself

Why would they make a V2 worse than the V1?

guys, if i buy a chunk of gorilla glass, can i cut it so it fits the phone? i have the steady hand and good precision, im asking if it work or not. and how much would a chunk of gorilla glass cost? I already got the glass cutting tool my present screen was scratched when i slid it on a normal wood table!! the scratch isnt bad, but really annoying if it reflects the light badly when in sunlight and... you get what im saying
no, you cant cut it with normal glass cutting tool...it is a hardened glass...if you try to do so it may break

can you point out a tool that can cut it? for the general knowlege or maybe practical
I don't think you get a gorrila glass just like in the market. And if you find a seller you would have to buy like huge sheet of glass or sth.
And if you find it, how are you gonna install it??
BTW wouldn't it look odd to have a glass elevation on your phone. If you want to change the touch screen just directly go to Samsung service center. I got my galaxy ace's screen fixed for Rs.2500

if u realy want to.....maybe u can cut it just like the glass display and replace the glass part all together....
but u will need alot of skill, and u will have to get gorrilla glass from somewhere ...
its expensive and u will have to probably have to buy a huge chunk.
not advisable and not even sure if its possible
you can buy maybe galaxy note screen then sand it to fit or something? I"m no expert about glass.

I don't think you can do what you are suggesting here. The screen on the phone is not plain glass or plastic, its a digitizer turning touch signals to system functions (hence the "touch screen"). You can't just take a gorilla glass panel and replace the digitizer.
i suggest you use a screen protector (vikuiti perhaps?), it's much cheaper and easier.

my problem isnt having scratches mainly, its just the glass is so crap! sometimes i can see the lcd flick under my thumb when i use the phone (and im not pressing too hard either) i dont know why. and anyway the gorilla feels better when you touch it. lol i mean gorilla glass.
I agree with tomsi191, I think you'd loose the "touch" functionality.
Just don't press so hard on it !

mine got scratches from the zipper on the pockets of my jacket ?! i was too lazy to buy a screen protector
anyway you can buy a digitizer for about 20$ in ebay and there is even a video tutorial in youtube on how to change it
about the other problems you mentioned, it's not the digitizer, the lcd screen on this phone is crappy (probably the only thing crappy in G3)

Scratch proof my ass. One day in your pocket with some keys. I dare you.
It is scratch resistant, not scratch proof.

Gorilla glas is scratch resistant. Mine has already got some scratches after about a month of use. Note that the gorilla glass can break too. Friends' samsung G S2. Defy/defy + are built much better but gorilla glass can break too.
No matter what kind of animal its made of it will always scratch n break.

I am using it in VERY difficult environment. Defy passed all tests except scratching screen with gloves on, and full of sand. I quess iron cannot scratch but sand can.
I guess the only way to replace it is via Motorola or vendor support?
how much do they charge? anyone has experience?
Or maybe some other way? 3rd Party? (guess not...)
Or maybe if someone is really skilled ;-)
Googling "Defy touchscreen replacement", should turn up both instructions on how to do it, and sources of parts. I'm sure there are threads about it on XDA as well, if you use the search facility.

Scratch resistant doesn't mean scratch proof.
I put a screen protector on my Defy and it's scratched to hell so it goes to show how much scratching and marking goes on with phones, while the protector isn't very durable it does show just how much general wear and tear goes on with our phones.
Got no scratches and had it for over a year, I have only dropped it certainly <10 times, put it in pocket with no keys, don't get sand on it.
Watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i_hL5ntT2E and tell me that it isn't scratch resistant
My Defy have almost a year and not a single scratch on glass. Keys and phones don't mix
My screen broke in January, but there are NO scratches in it.
Since a new one is too expensive, I'm still using it normally, broken as it is.
I mix keys and phone all the time and only one tiny scratch after 13 months of use. I practice swimming so my Defy is every day in the pool and glass released mouisture only once but I used a hair fan to heat it up.

If it were in my country Norway you would have got a new glass, 5 years rights to complain if it don't handle what it's supposed to. Like the iphone lovers here gets new glasses and apple are scratching their heads as here its the producer/retailers who must prove its a user fault. If they can't they have to fix it. BTW I don't like iphone but used as example as Apple has the worst customers service

If only Norway was a little bit warmer I would be emigrating immediately. Any suggestions for a county with similar consumer laws?
And scratch resistant doesn't mean scratch proof. Mine has a few small scratches from sharing a pocket with keys (doesn't any more) a big one form scratching against stone.
I have a scratch on it because of sand. Sometimes I mixed it in my pocket with keys but it did not caused scratch on it.

this is not a bad test too i don't use any cases, no screen protector, been using a phone for more than a month at it still looks like brand new. although haven't dropped it yet. knock knock knock.
i think its a pretty tough phone
that was cruel

kept mine in a leather case with my driving liscence scratched the **** out of the screen with a plastic card rubbing on it wouldnt advise this lol
Definitly not the right way to use the HOX

Wonder how long before they get their first return from someone trying this!
Given how exposed the screen is (which is a plus design wise) it needs to be tough to last most people's contract terms.
Think this is a response to someone doing the same think to a nokia lumia 900 to show how strong the screen on that was.
He's obviously ordered himself an S3 and taken One X bashing to another level!!!
Haha great video, I taught only the corners of the screen were Gorilla glass.

Hi guys,
Please do not confuse with display type and the glass on top of it. Super LCD2 is a display type just like LCD, IPS LCD(LG), AMOLED, SuperAMOLED Plus etc. Manufacturers may choose a glass on top of it like ordinary glass, mineral glass (some sony phones), gorilla glass (a brand manufactured by corning). Sometimes they just give scratch-resistant glass in specifications without mentioning the make (even corning may provide some other glass which is not from the famed "gorilla glass" series)
So to answer the original question - I have not seen HTC mentioning anywhere that One V has scratch-resistant glass, which means it may or may not have one. Only HTC will be able to confirm it or the OEM supplier will have to announce it.
And yes the display type is SLCD2 and that's the reason for its excellent display clarity, but it has nothing to do with the glass.
Hope that's clear
Thanks
Really?! Still may get this phone but for the price....
I would expect Gorilla glass on it
How do others feel about this?
Watched a torture test (CNET?) where they froze, baked, dropped in fish tank and dropped from lap getting out of SUV... all past except the drop. It landed on the face and fractured.
Obviously not gorilla glass and a bit of a disappointment. Guess I'll need some form of case protection for this already large phone which I've pre-ordered.
Did you post this in every forum?? Yes, it has Gorilla glass. Even diamonds will scratch if you use something as hard or harder.

Lol, I just watched the same vid. Yes CNET.
So, just looked up the specs and it says gorilla glass 2. Now I'm confused
For those that will come back and say it's not scratch proof...I know I know.
But I'd expect a little less of a break if I were to drop it.
Where are you getting this info? The Note 2 has Gorilla Glass 2.

Did you see the driveway she dropped it on? Big pointed rocks hardened in concrete, it likely landed directly on the screen at one one of those pointed rocks. No,phone anywhere with gorilla glass or not will withstand that. Every time you drop a phone you run a chance of shattering the screen depending how it lands. Any phone.

Go to Corning's site. Note 2 nowhere to be found. I have seen spec sheets on some tech sites that say it does but if Corning doesn't list it...makes it confusing.

Hi all. Technically gorilla glass is kind of scratch proof depending on what's scratching it. I saw a video explaining this the other night and found it interesting. On a hardness scale I believe gg is a 8-9 depending on conditions when the sheet was produced. If anything with a smaller hardness number comes in contact with the screen it won't scratch, if something with a harder number (like sand) comes in contact with gg it will scratch.
Unfortunately these drop tests are hit and miss too. It all depends on where the impact point on the screen is and it will be different with every drop.
Hope this helps

I would guess it'll get updated eventually. Went through something similar with my LG Nitro HD last year. Previews and reviews of the phone said it had Gorilla Glass, but it wasn't listed on any official specs and wasn't on the Corning site at the time either so some people started claiming it didn't have it. At some point the Corning site got updated and the Nitro is listed now.
Due to customer agreements, we cannot identify all devices that feature Gorilla Glass. Your favorite device may include Gorilla Glass, even if you don't see it listed. Ask your manufacturer or retailer to learn more.
Don't be a bloody a$$!
Every High End phone being release has Gorilla Glass, Gorilla Glass 2, or an equivalent hardened glass product. This conversation is as old as the hills. It is scratch and break resistant, and does a good job at that, but it is not idiot proof. One good thing about GG is the amount of flex it will take. Even still if someone carries a Note II in their back pocket, I don't want to hear about it if they make a bloody a$$ of themselves doing so.
It's got Gorilla Glass. Case closed
