Does anyone knows how to get the headset button working when device is locked?
For me it only works when the lockscreen is disabled.
Device: Galaxy Nexus with JB 4.1.1
I think it depends on the app. I have JB 4.1.1. I use a sony mw600 bluetooth headset. I also use Cyberon voice commader and doggcatcher. The buttons work on both apps when the screen is locked. But on other apps the buttons don't work on screen lock.
Button works just fine for me with my apps with screen locked. Google Music, BeyondPod, TuneIn Radio, and Pandora.
@NCguy:
Yes with bluetooth it works fine for me also. But the cable headset does not.
@martonikaj:
With some apps it seems to work.
What is not working for me (while locked):
* Long press for Google Now (Search)
* End a call
* Continue playing music when paused longer than 20 secs
* Commands assigned to a headset control app
If I disable the lockscreen all works fine without any problems. I use the default Samsung headset which came with the Nexus.
Any ideas?

If my phones been asleep paused for a long time, usually a double press works. Presumably the first press is waking the device and the 2nd is hitting "play".
I think a long press for Google Now search not working with the screen lock is by design... what use is a Google Now search when you can't see the screen?
Hanging up a call with the screen off/locked works for me too.

What do you do to hang up? It is not working for me... I tried one click or long press. No luck it does work when I unlock my screen. I am going crazy with that. That is the one and only reason why I miss my iPhone. No troubles there with the headset.
Do you also use the original headset from Samsung? If not could this be a reason why it does not work for me?
I've tried on the stock jb 4.1.1 and i'm running on cm 10 nightly.
Both works fine.
I can play/pause/forward/rewind the music and answer call even my phone is locked.

Original headset. One click to hang up.
Hi
I have a Bose AE2i and I know the command cable is made for iDevices. Is it possible to have it fully/or bot working on the Gnex or is it material stuff.. ?

So what am I doing wrong? I tried it already with a different headset - also a Samsung stock one - also without luck.
Play/Pause works but as I said before only if the pause is not longer than 20 secs.
It makes me crazy...

It's been something that has bothered me ever since I bought my Galaxy Nexus. The existence of just one physical button to switch the screen on and off makes me question the lifetime of Power Button.
Does anyone know of any apps, mods, whatever for this? My first thought was to enable the Volume Keys to wake up the screen, I have also read about the proximity sensor but I don't think having the sensor active all the time is a good approach. Another way could be shaking the phone to turn it on.
Taken from a google search .... "There's an app called "No Lock" that will wake the Nexus One using the Volume rocker"
May work on the Galaxy Nexus too maybe but i dont know
Yea, I've seen that app too but it doens't do exactly what I want. Plus it disables entirely the lock screen which is certainly something I do not want. :\
look for smart screen on app, it enables you to turn your device on and off with the proximity sensor

Cm9 has volume rocker wake. It also has a notification toggle that turns off the screen.

Screen off & Lock works fine & cuts the wear & t4ear on the power button in half. I halve it set up as swipe action in Nova launcher.
AOKP had volume rocker wake in the ROM Control too.
Can try this app "Smart screen on"
it uses the proximity sensor to wake the phone..

He said he doesn't want to keep the proximity sensor on.
Have you tried "ShakeOff"? Turn the screen off/on with a shake. I haven't tested it on the GN but it used to work on my old phone.

Volume rocker. You have warranty anyway for a year.
Also, you do realize there's only one way to accelerate in a car right? Are you worried that the pedal won't work everyday so you'll need to find an alternative way to drive?

that's a nice analogy. now consider this:
car's are made to last, let's say, for 10 years.
smartphones and electronics/gadgets in general aren't.
not even going to mention the "years of expertise" behind the mechanics on a car.
thanks - everyone - for the replies I will try those!
I will say the power button on this phone is we made and I'm sure it will last just fine
I've had worse. Like my thunderbolt

AOKP can do what you request.
my power button on my GN stopped functioning after 6 months of use. It requires me to press in very hard to get a response now or none at all. I'm in the process of backing everything up and beginning the warranty process with expansys. Have to say, I considered this to be the best phone I've ever had and this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
You could always try PGM Nexus (free). It allows you to unlock your phone by sliding your finger across the screen.

how so? I'm not one to nitpick small flaws, every phone has them. the power button failing is a major issue though. I would've still attributed it to a defective exception if I hadn't see many more people reporting the same thing. I did start using the volume rocker wake in cm9, but probably a bit too late

I have used this for a couple months and it works really great!
Even i worry a lot about the power button thingy. I use PGM nexus free version and it partially does the job. But for screen off i still have to use the power button.
Had a very bad experience with my moto milestone regarding the power button.

Hi,
A new standard feature in Jelly Bean lets you give a voice command when you long press the button on your headset.
Cool!
But, I'm using headset button controller which lets you program your headset button, and now I can't increase my volume with a long press anymore!
Thus the question is:
Can I dissable the standard button action in Jelly Bean somewhere and chose my own combination of presses again in the app?
Yeah happened to me too today, Normally it's not "normal" to have expensive phones being whipped around in public, that's especially if you want to go home with your hand.
I normally rely on the volume keys and long press to get my song changing/selection done. But now all I get is Google Now. Haven't found a way to overwrite it. I'm sure Google has some answer to this. One method is turning off Google Now. But it's too sexy to turn off, having a hard time choosing there.
any update on this?
Its really annoying... We need a solution for this!
yeah it sucks..and I dont user google now og voice..so dont care if it get's removed....
damn you jelly bean!!! lol

yeah i hate this! i want my headset long press back for volume control
i guess disabling google now would work then? but i dont want to do that.
the headset double press doing a redial phone call is far more annoying though - any solutions for that????
Hi,
I've decided it's time to root my phone and install Cyanogenmod 10 to get some JB goodness.
However, I'm currently using a case (Incipio NGP) that makes the side unlock button very difficult to press. Because of this, i only use the side button to LOCK the phone, and instead use the physical home button on the front of the phone to UNLOCK it.
What I want to know is, with CM10, will I still be able to unlock the phone using the front physical home button?
I'm going to ignore that fact that using a case that impedes proper use of the phone is just silly.
Do you mean to wake or unlock? The home and power button both wake the phone on CM10. Home button can be a bit hit and miss at this point, but multiple presses resolves this and it will be fixed in the long run.

Idk about cm10 but task650 and ktoonsez ROM you can use both buttons to wake. I'd try out AOKP. It is the best ROM out for the S3 in my opinion.

Hah yeah, might be a little silly but the case is just amazing in every other aspect so I'll deal with a slightly hard to press wake button.
And yes, what I meant was wake, not unlock. So you are saying that if i press the front home button a few times it will wake up and the screen will turn on?

I'm saying that both CM10 and AOKP work normally with regards to waking the phone like you'd expect when you press the home button. Just like stock.
However, as of right now some people are reporting that it doesn't always respond to the first press. That's just a bug that will certainly be worked out at some point.
The only way the home button is currently working a bit differently is when you have a delay set between the screen off and screen lock. My screen locks 1 minute after it goes off, but if you use the home button to wake the phone during this time, it will wake, but also close any app you have open.

That's pretty sketchy - I use a 30minute delay so I guess I'd have to take that off. Why is it that AOKP and CM10 both have the same bug - is it just a bug inherent to AOSP Jellybean with S3 hardware?

Well, "sketchy" isn't the word I'd use, but it is a bit frustrating.
AOKP is built off CM10 for the most part. CM10 is still in the very initial stages on the S3 and the concentration has been on improving graphic and audio performance as a priority.

Good to know, thanks.
The main things I need to work are:
calling
texting
mp3 player
Do the audio performance bug affect the google play music app (or music playback in general)?

The audio bugs were related to call audio and have largely been resolved in the latest nightlies.
As for texting, it works. Though there are two outstanding issues that may or may not impact you. 1) Concatenated SMS messages do not work, messages are split at 160 characters. Using an alternative SMS app is not a solution, as messages not split will fail to send. 2) Queueing messages in the stock app is annoying, and if one is attempting to send while you send another, it will fail instead of just getting in line.
I was wondering if it would be possible for the phone to start Hotword detection as soon as i wake up the phone to the lock screen? I would like to work as soon as I press the power button to wake up the phone it starts listening for the word Google, like Google Now does it. Is this even possible?
If not, would it be possible to launch Voice Search by holding the power button for 2 seconds while the screen is off? I think something like what i'm suggesting makes the phone more functional and "futuristic".
I'd like something along those lines, might hurt the battery life if it's always listening for a command though.
I think a icon on the unlock ring for a voice command would work well, just swipe down to it and it'll start listening.

With Tasker, yes this is possible. You can make it launch Voice Search the moment the phone is unlocked, but you can't make it listen for it in the "background" if that is what you are asking.

I don't think it would hurt battery life that much, because it will only listen on the lock screen, but the idea of launching it right from the unlock ring would be better than how it is now.

After messing around with tasker, I pretty much got it sort of working. I have it set so when I have my finger over the proximity sensor and i turn on the phone, it will immediately start listening for a command, but sometimes I press the power button before i completely take it out of my pocket and I don't like it that much. I'm still working on making it more functional.
When playing music with the screen off, neither the stock headphone's volume buttons nor the phone's volume buttons work, requiring the power button to be pushed. The pause button on headphones works. Any thoughts? Never was this way on my S2. On Wicked v5.1/faux kernel.
More clearly: this is with the screen completely off; it works fine on lock screen. What I'm hoping to have happen is the ability to control the volume when I'm using it as a music player, with the volume buttons simply working without turning the screen on. It doesn't work on Player Pro, nor the stock music player. It also doesn't change the volume on phone calls if when the screen is powered off, but is fine when the screen is off due to proximity. Thanks!
This happens to me too, i not tested very deeply, but when i reset the phone, works normally, just after a few apps (rooted ones included) it just stops working while screen is off...
Did anyone find a solution? I have the exact same problem! Model: I9500
EDIT: Guys I found the problem. It was with one of my xposed mods. I had enabled skipping tracks with volume keys. This resulted to neither track changing nor volume control. I suspect it was clashing with my poweramp volume button controls. I disabled that option in wanam xposed and rebooted.. Everything is back to normal!

But don't you think it's a pain to reset your phone everytime? I mean isn't data loss and app restoration everytime painful? Or do you mean reboot?
