So, I believe this to be an Ion issue only, but I'm not totally sure. Upon changing my launcher to Apex, I can no longer access many of the widgets native to the Ion, such as the (extremely convenient) toggle buttons for WiFi/Bluetooth/NFC/Vibrate/etc, the default digital clock widget that is the first thing you see when you first start your shiny new Ion, and many others. Any help on getting these to work in Apex would be a godsend.
Note: I can still change to the Xperia Launcher and see all of the widgets perfectly fine, they're just not available to place from Apex.
Some widgets are native to the xperia launcher, try using power toggles from the market

It is the same with most of the launchers. Widgets from one launcher is not usable on the other. Nothing new.
These widgets are dependent on the launcher.
I miss the walkman widget when using another launcher, so sticking with xperia launcher.

The widgets are only compatibles with the "home xperia" original
Is it possible to unpack the apk and remove the dependencies for the home launcher?

You could try using ported widgets that are not dependent but doubt there are very many and allot of them don't play very nice unless all Sony stuff is not in the build. I would not mess with it though as you could cause a big problem. Maybe in a few years we will get a unlocked boot haha
I miss the walkman widget.

Okay, I've tested many costum launchers. And I just cant decide until now which launcher is the best.
I know that each of the launchers has it own + and - .
But please share here your experience on costum launcher, and which launcher is the best. To help me decide which costum launcher that should I use.
At the moment I'm using adw launcher ex.
Which is sometimes laggy and crash.
But I like the fully costumizeable features.

Now I'm using stock launcher, but I've also used GO Launcher EX long time (~ half a year) on my Xperia X8.
And it has many features like:
∞ Homescreens
GO Store
GO Themes
GO Widgets
...
The only thing I disliked about GO Launcher EX was the app drawer.
I think Go Launcher EX is very good and customizable but in design I prefer the stock launcher.
I use LauncherPro Plus
Fast, smooth and stable and customizable. I like it over Go Launcher.
And compared to a stock Desire Z with Go Launcher the Arc @ 1.4GHz with LauncherPro Plus flies and makes the Desire Z looking super slow and sluggish. Well, it really is, just even more compared to our awesome Arc
I like it

ADW Launcher
Launcher Pro
Zeam launcher
Very fast and efficient and zero lags
Thanks for your answers

All launchers listed above are fast and highly customizable but, you will have a BIG surprise IF you like Sony's widgets (like I do), e.g. Music player, Picture frame, Timescape or Weather. They simply do not exist!
I've tried most launchers, the ones I remember: adw/ex, launcher pro, spb shell, regina3d, rocket launcher, miui, ics, honeycomb, go, zeam, helix, kite, crazy home, panda...and several others. Adw ex is the custom one I prefer, don't like go, lpp is good, rocket is good but weird, spb is v good but not really themable, regina is similar to spb, zeam is the lightest/fastest etc. Ironically, been using the se home, especially since the 7 screen 5*4 mod. Don't need more than that myself, and with dvr it's as themable as I need.

LauncherPro for me too.

Yeah since the modded home.apk I'm corcening to use that modded home..
But only one problem, when u open the app drawer, and close it, u don't return to the last position..
Anyway..
Thanks for the opinion guys,
I think I'll use,
Adw , launcher pro , or the modded home.

Nova Launcher and Apex Launcher are head to head usually. Both are excellent. You can also try Holo Launcher HD or the new Action Launcher Pro. Nova, Apex and Holo are all pretty much the same in terms of features, but Action Launcher is something new.
I use Nova Launcher as I got the paid version for 25 cents during the Google Play 25 billion apps sale. It's fast, works well and has all the features I need.
yeah but Nova launcher has some downsizes...isnt so customable has the others ..but the real benefit(Also) is the Battery..nova consume lowest batter of all launcher..so give it a shot because is a nice launcheer...and also u can try NEXT launcher..because is something different.
Im currently using Atom, on ICS i got better battery life than nova.

i use Nova with different icon packs. i also recommend SS launcher if you are looking for something different.
Personally I just found next launcher quite expensive but a pretty cool launcher and very polished

Hi guys, i have the Xperia S and i need to use the Sony widgets in another launchers because i dont like the Sony launcher.
Its possible?
No, you can't. They are made to work only on Sony launcher, just like so Go Widgets are made to work only on Go Launcher.
Okay but i cant find a good widget like Walkman widget
Then use Sony launcher

Search for "plug in music". A widget that plays the walkman and can launch the walkman app

I just got my ZL today and I spent all day customizing the way I want. Got root access , deleted all the useless stuff...and then installed apex launcher. Here is where I got into trouble. On the Xperia launcher I noticed 2 very interesting widgets (sony gallery preview widget and sony notes widget) . After Apex launcher was installed I noticed I didn't had access to that 2 widgets mentioned above.
Is there a solution/workaround?
No. These work with stock launcher only.

I've had my new phone for a couple days. In the past I've used Nova Launcher. However, there seems to be some serious issues with Nova and 4.4.4. Widgets don't function properly; clock doesn't keep time, some don't refresh, some refuse to load when added. I looked at the Xperia Launcher, but can't find any settings, such as grid size and screen rotation (both important to me). Is there a way to change these in Xperia Launcher?
Those of you using 4.4.4, can you tell me what launchers you are using; any glitches, fixes for these glitches.... Your input will be appreciated.
You could root and try one of these Xposed modules to customize the stock launcher for example:
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.gem.xperiaxposed
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.serajr.xperia.xposed.kk
I'm using Next Launcher 3D personally.

Any issues with Next? I tried the standard Xperia launcher briefly, but it turns out that the widgets that didn't work in Nova, don't work with the Xperia launcher either. A 4.4.4 issue with the various widgets I guess.
I don't have any issues, but I'm also not using any widgets so I can't say much about that.

I'm using Xperia Launcher with Transparent Clock & Weather widget (by Droid27, find it on Play Store), so far no problem at all.
i use Go Launcher and it works PERFECT with 4.4.4 here. there is a little downside for the free version, it has ads. but buying it to get rid of the ads is really worth it
