I'm looking for a rom that simply takes off TW and do not really mind if its ICS or JB. I know there's CM9/10/AOKP, but are they are not yet ready.
Any input?
I haven't treid either of them, but there is Freeza's Galaxy S Fre3 or the NoWizAOSPmod.
Besides CM9/10 and AOKP there is only JB MIUI, which is based off of CM10, so it isn't much better. You'll have to stick to TW at least until we get a RC, though the CM10 nightlies I've been running seem stable enough to be my daily drivers.

That depends on what you're looking for. If you want to keep the amazon UI then Modaco is the way to go. If you're wanting more of an AOSP feel then GedeROM, AOKP, or Jandycane are all great options. GedeROM is based off of CM9, I believe. AOKP is it's own animal but it is based off of Ice Cream Sandwich source I believe and Jandycane is based off of Jellybean Source. Modaco probably has the best battery life out of them all but obviously is pretty much standard amazon. It is deodexed and optimized and rooted though without the worry of OTA updates messing with your root permissions. The biggest selling point for AOKP in my opinion is customization options. You can even change the soft keys to something you are more comfortable with on AOKP. GedeROM is a very stable CM9 and also has plenty of customization options that come with cyanogenmod. Jandycane as I said is based on Jellybean and it is buttery as they come. Right now my kindle is running Jandycane 1.4, soon to be 1.5 when I find time to update it. Battery life is a little sorry though but I am sure in time it will improve as lithium comes up with more fixes.
Yeah, it does depend on what you want. These are the ROMs I recommend. I have used them all and they all will work fine.
Jellybean/CM10 ROMs: CM10 SGT7 ROM, Hashcode's ROM(AOSP)
ICS/CM9 ROMs: gedeROM, SGT7 ROM, Glazed ICS
CM7: Barebones CM7
I was using GedeROM ... very stable IceCreamSandwich rom.
I just switched to JandyCane .. its Jellybean. I'm not sure what's missing .. it's also nice.
Stick with gedeRom if this is your first forray into Kindle Android. Then when you're comfortable .. look around.
I bought a SGH-T989-D (telus version) and it came rooted with cyanogenmod installed. It was so fast and beautiful but it had many major bugs that made it unusable (call echo, battery life, caller id broken, random restarts). It's been about 4 months so I wanted to see what the most stable roms are.
I'm looking for a rom that is fast and close to stock ICS or maybe jellybean if that's out yet. I'm currently on touchwiz ics but it's not as smooth or snappy as the buggy rom the phone came with was.
Thanks in advance and sorry if this is noobish.
This one is stable

Its the stable version of CM 9
And my personal favorite AOKP 7/15 milestone 6

Only issue I have is speaker phone sounds choppy.
As for JB, there is good progress, but not a DD in my IMHO.

The one by BinaryBiship is pretty good. And there's nightly builds so at least you know they're actively updating.

this question gets asked quite a bit and my opinion on the matter(since you asked) is bugs don't seem to pop up for everyone. If the phone you had had issues maybe it was just that version of CM. If you like CM then I would suggest trying a nightly, RC2 or AOKP.
There are different developers that have kanged CM as well so try that. Since what is a bug for one person is not necessarily a bug for others its a trial and error. Anyone can post a link and say this or that is the best but only your real world experience can determine if its your dd= daily driver or not....
I have been running CM9 or AOKP since I got my phone and no issues at all...No radio issues No GPS issue No hot reboot issues... so far nada... Give them all a try thats my opinion
As said earlier, CM9 and AOKP are both great. My only issue with them is that they don't have wifi calling so be wary of that if you need that feature.
Just update to the latest cm9 nightly at get.cm for the Hercules. If you are already on cm9 then make a back up and then wipe system, cache, and dalvik. Then flash cm9 and gapps.

Love the latest by Darkside. Its not pure stock but the latest is speedy, GREAT battery, and solid enough to be my DD ROM ..
Stats in sig. Good luck!
CM9 has come a LONG way these past months and virtually every bug you posted has been fixed. CM9 RC2 has been running beautifully for me for nearly a week and a half now. I recently took the plunge with TDJ's latest Venom kernel and it's been running even smoother. AOSP ROMs may have been buggy in the past but now there really isn't any reason to go back to TW. Unless of course you need wifi calling... but our devs are currently working on that and there are alternatives that allow you to call from wifi (Talkatone, Vonage, GrooveIP). So really, in my opinion, there really is no reason to go back to carrier bloat.
You could always use odin to flash a stock ICS, then root and remove bloat. You'd have a completely stock ICS running stable. As long as you're rooted, you can always flash modifications down the road. If you want a little extra performance but want to still maintain stock as much as possible, you can just flash a modified kernel on top.
So I may be one of the few people that actually really likes TouchWiz. I have CM9 on my HP Touchpad, which is great, but I feel some of the widgets that TW has are perfect for me.
With that said, I really want JB on my ATT Galaxy s3. Are there any TouchWiz based ROMS for JB out there that are fully stable? I just read today that we may not get JB for a while, which sucks.
Thanks!
Try this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869300 It's based off of the T-Mobile leak of Samsung's touchwiz JB with extra features. It's the Milestone 6 version you are looking for.
would you say it's stable enough for heavy daily use? thanks!

I tried it a few times and didn't run into any problems, battery life was decent and ROM overall was VERY fast. I just really like some of the tweaks that the stock ICS Ariel Rom provides that I keep switching back to Ariel. The main features I like are the center clock option, music track change with volume controls and the CRT off animation. If I were to use another ROM it would be that JB leak I listed. For now, just using Ariel ICS rom until the official build comes out for AT&T and Ariel upgrades to JB.
That same developer is making a TW/AOSP Hybrid ROM called "Hannah" just stay subscribed to him, he is an amazing developer and really listens to his users to find and fix any bugs that may be present.

Ok, So I've been on a custom ROM (specifically an AOKP based one running jellybean) and damn... I do miss the fluidness of touchwiz and having almost no bugs, which I expect since there isn't no stable release of CM10 yet. I was wondering, have you ever waffled between CM and the stock TouchWiz interface? If so, do you think making the jump back to stock is such a huge deal?

I waffle weekly between AOKP and Ariel...no issues. I keep a good CWM backup of each and when an update for one comes out I update my backup. I run AOKP, start missing smart stay or some other native feature so I load up Ariel for a week or so then I miss the custom-ness of AOKP and I load up that goodness. I've never had a major issue switching back and forth.
Hope that helps.

If you download the "M" versions of CM10, those are the monthly stable builds. I use to run M2 for a while and it was nice, really smooth and mostly no bugs. But I've switched back and forth between TW and Stock builds and I'm staying with stock since 4.2 is coming out Monday, and will hopefully be released to AOSP very soon as well. It's all preference.

I haven't went back to stock since I flashed ParanoidAndroid. 2.5 is pretty stable, but I do miss the stock camera app. At least I have ProCapture. Same as stock.
Edit: I'm on ParanoidKangdroid now. It's pretty awesome.

AOKP for months now. I just like having control over so many functions that you just can't do on stock. But same here I miss the stock camera app.
I can't even begin to tell u how many times I've done that...I was originally stock ICS rooted but had a craving for jb...
So I flashed a aokp ROM (tasks) and it was beautiful...but then I missed the nice pretty tw and switched back only to realize the only thing I missed was the camera...
Its safe to say I am now back to a nice cm10 based paranoidKANGdroid ROM and i don't see myself switching anytime soon

I came from Task/Ktoonez AOKP on my GS2 and flashed it immediately after rooting my GS3. Don't miss TW at bit, of course it is hard to miss something that you've never used . I have never had any problems with either that wasn't of my own fault, or that couldn't be easily fixed and have no plans of changing anytime in the foreseeable future.
I'm not too new to Android. I'm not a developer, just a lover of the system. I hated the stock rom on my SGS3 and rooted and flashed the device to put some new roms on it. I've bounced around from rom to rom. I've settled on the ParanoidAOKPdroid rom.
I have some problems with it being stable (mostly sleep of deaths), but I expect that with any custom rom. So my question to you guys is this, What AOKP rom is the best rom that you've found? What one is the most stable, easiest to use, ect..
I found aokp on my samsung infuse 4g. I used to try a new rom every two weeks or so. Once I installed aokp on my infuse I have not had any real desire to go to any other rom which has xfered to my sgs3. I'm currently using task and ktoonsez's aokp and haven't tried the other ones for the s3 to give you my opinion on them.
Ive used task's aokp before. Its pretty solid and stable. I dont recall getting SOD on his aokp. I would recommend giving it a try.

Yeah, I use task's and toonz AOKP rom as well. Its amazing. Can't go back to TW after this.
I've run AOKP on my past Galaxy Player 5.0, and now I'm using task's AOKP on my GS3. It's really great - a lot of useful new features (which makes it much easier in day-to-day use), it's really fast, but I wouldn't call it quite as stable as touchwiz roms. It's not actually unstable at all, just touchy sometimes. I've never had a sleep of death or anything running task's ROM, usually any funkyness is my fault.
There's a definite learning curve to AOKP, it's a much more "vanilla android" experience than touchwiz but it's worth it. I just make sure I have a backup in TWRP (or CWM if you choose to use it) made frequently while I'm playing with stuff. Get AOKP installed and stable => do a backup. Install some more stuff, get it stable => do a backup, etc. This way you can play with stuff and not worry about breaking anything, you can go right back to where you were if you happen to make it unstable in any way.
Oh, and KT747 kernel is definitely worth a try too. EXCELLENT kernel.
