32GB sandisk microSDHC for $99

just a heads up... did a search on this forum for "32GB" and didnt find anything. didnt bother searching "microsdhc" since so many people would have a different way of typing it out that it would be near impossible to find on a search.
anyways, Verizon Wireless seems to have the SanDisk 32GB microSDHC cards IN STOCK and is selling them for $99 online with free overnight shipping. most places havent had stock EVER since it was released a couple of months ago. original retail price on them began at $240 or something.
unfortunately, these are Class 2 only, but generally it's not the card that's the bottleneck when it comes to speed on your device. i popped mine in this morning when it arrived and have had no problems with reading at all; 350mb XviD avi rips of TV shows like Rescue Me and 550mb XviD avi rips of Top Gear all play back flawlessly on my Samsung Vibrant.
write speeds have a bit to be desired, but i cant complain due to faster cards being unavailable. compared to my Class 6 16GB card, it has no ill effects from what i have so far observed while in the device.
cliffs: $99 for a SanDisk 32GB microSDHC from verizonwireless.com with free overnight shipping. normal price from them is $150, but is on special for now... the original deal was $50 off with the purchase of a Droid X, but that seems to have changed for a limited time. cheapest i can find it anywhere else using Google Shopping is $140 before tax+shipping.

Thanks for the heads up. Do a search on Engadget for an article on it (I can't post the link). Apparently it just hit the store 8 days ago.
Still, I dunno. I'm kind of on the fence about getting it due to the price (just dropped $550 on the phone itself).

Because I want to be able to ditch my MP3 player (which currently has 30+ gigs of music) and use my phone exclusively. One less thing to carry around.

I think they meant to point out that unless you want to carry around a tiny breakable easy to lose 16gb card in ur pocket or bag and switch out when you need to, having 32gb in one card is more convenient which combined with how newly available the card is, it is quite cheap for the price. You only pay a bit more per GB in this case, normally you'd pay 2-3x more in the beginning for the new highest capacity in flash memory.

What would someone possibly need on a 32 gb that cant fit on a16 plus having access to any pc you plug your phone into plus another 15 approx gigs internal?

I know at least for me, there's never enough space. Unless they somehow manage to offer Terabyte microSD cards. Even the, I'm sure I'd find a sure for it.
Music, movies, games, ebooks, audiobooks, work files, space for pictures and videos, etc.
Do you NEED to have that much stuff on you? No, but it's nice to have access to everthing and worry less about space.
I know I have 14gb of music on my card and that's mostly just ONE genre of music. I have over 150gb of music. And yes, I do listen to all 14gb that I do have on there. It's good to have access to lots of music for parties and get togethers. Remote access is not always a perfect solution.
Again, I don't NEED all the space, but I sure as heck will use it when I have it.
If I had more space, I'd also partition space on my phone for portable apps. Having access to FireFox, GIMP, Openoffice, 7zip, etc wherever I go is a huge plus.

well yes, I agree, there are things to use the space. I'm just saying given the phone limitations wouldn't it be easier to dropbox and/or grab crap off the pc? The thing does have allshare/server capabilities to make that easier.

Do you need to be plugged into the PC to get the files off of it? I assume you do, but even if you didn't, think of all the battery power wasted to get the files when you want them. e.g. let's say I am on a bus or stuck waiting for something and want to watch a show or movie on my pc on my phone. I'd need to get on 3g, hope it can all stream fast enough, and the battery would run out super fast using 3g and playing a video all at once.
Also as for the 32gb 16gb argument. I might be able to work with limited storage, but I personally could fill about 5tb or more with anime and movies and tv shows that I'd like, and if I could carry all of that on my phone, and be able to select anything I want immediately and have it right there, that would be amazingly convenient. Therefore as far as I am concerned 16gb, 32gb, it's never really enough, people can always fill more space. However I will deal with having only a 16gb card on my Epic 4G when it comes out.

I thought the max microSD card the phone accepts is 16 gigs as per specs supplied in the manual. Guess those are wrong then? Good to know! Thanks for posting this topic!!

i can fit 20GB of movies, TV shows, and music on a single card without having to connect my phone to a computer to add more.
THAT wont fit on a 16GB card. i dont carry my laptop wherever i go, therefore i dont really have access to any data beyond the 16GB card. maybe you are always near your computer, but i'm not.

i set the removable card slot as the save point for the camcorder app and recorded nearly 7 minutes of video with lots of movement. no issues when recording.
i then played it back using both the built-in video player and eStrong File Explorer's built-in video player and experienced no dropped frames, freezing, or slowdowns, nor did the audio and video go out of sync.
i'm a hobbyist photographer so reliable, fast memory cards are something i'm always on the lookout for. because of this, i've sampled a lot of different brands in the past (i'm always testing different brands to try and find cheaper alternatives for my camera) and have found that SanDisk flash memory cards are consistently much faster than their rated spec. this result with the 32GB microSD is probably no different nor that unusual, based on my previous experience.
if i have some free time this morning and will do some read/write tests of the SanDisk 32GB Class 2 card alongside the original Samsung 2GB card that the Vibrant came with, a SanDisk 2GB Class 2 card, and a SanDisk 16GB Class 6 card i used in my HD2.

i really dont understand how anyone can manage to COMPLAIN about more data space, or that someone bothered to share a good deal they had found. either you people lead unhappy lives or you're lashing out because you're unable to afford one... because there's no logical explanation you can create to support an argument against a 32GB card except price.

the microSDHC spec allows for up to 32GB. it's just taken this long (released in the beginning of this year, or so) for a company to create a chip dense enough to reliably manufacture a 32GB microSD card.
the new spec, microSDXC, will cover sizes ranging from 32GB up to 2TB in the Secure Digital format. 64GB SDXC cards are already available from Panasonic and SanDisk.

[Q] How many people wanted removable storage on a Galaxy Nexus?

Like the title says, I'm curious to see how many people actually wanted this function. I was a bit disappointed when I heard about the lack of removable memory, but I lust after this phone. I do have a 16GB card that's near capacity. I haven't cleaned it out in a while, so I'll do that first. Hopefully 16GB will be enough for me. But I digress, this isn't a rant about how the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have removable memory. This thread is more about seeing the percentage of people who did want this function.

I did want it, just like I wanted it on the NS. But I understand that I don't NEED removable storage and will be buying the GN the first chance I get. And given the choice, I'll probably go with a 16GB version, because I still have about 4GB of free space on my NS.

I really wanted an sdcard slot on it. I will have to import the phone as the 32GB versions as there seems to be no current plans to sell that version in Sweden according to Samsung themselves. 32GB is minimum for me. I had hoped to be able to get a 32 GB version and then plug in my 32 GB microsd for even more storage.

Wanted it, but mostly because i got a 32GB MicroSD card already
All of my storage is wasted on nandroids anyway.

The lack of the card slot (which even my Nexus One has) is a real shame - it would only have cost a few pence to include a card slot unless there is something I have missed. The slot would have been preferred to the barometer by the vast majority of people - if we had to choose one or the other.

If they were releasing the 32GB in the UK i wouldn't have wanted an SD slot as that would be enough for me. But as we're only getting the 16GB for whatever reason i would want an SD.
As they're not doing either i'll have to stay with my GS2.

i know i'm having issues with my card slot and/or SD card on my Fascinate. It'll say my SD card is ejected when it's not. I'm starting to think the omission of a card slot isn't so bad.. less moving parts = less things to break? lol

Not too bothered about it at all, never take my card out of the current phone.

Only thing that bums me out is I basically can't get the 16GB because if I run out of space I'm hosed.

Besides stuff that needs to be on the phone, almost everything (music, docs, photos) are in the cloud for me.

You are totally missing the point of the sdcard slot. The biggest advantage is being able to upgrade the amount of storage if you need it. The fact that it costs next to nothing now makes it even better. Also, a less used upside is the ability to read it even if your phone stops turning on at all.
To me, the best solution would be to have lots of internal storage but still have the option of an sdcard for extra storage for movies, lossless audio and other big files if the user wanted. I would be totally fine with it being used entirely for user storage. Any form of cache files that are currently stored on the sdcard probably belongs on the internal memory.

Well you got a small screen so movies shouldnt be large in size and phones probably aren't the best devices to playback lossless audio to make a difference audibly.
I'm pro SD card though but really you just slap a large one in there and forget about it. I do use it as a quick medium to transfer custom roms and kernels to my buddies... pictures to my gf... etc. Seemed transfers were faster directly using the SD card vs going through the phone... but with the cloud and wireless transfer methods, its a mute point.
Most stuff can be in the cloud such as pictures and music and even nandroid backups (only need a few locally). I keep games/apps/wallpapers locally but those could even go to the cloud. As long as I can download them when I need them. And you don't need to have a whole movie collection on you at all times. Just a few throwbacks for travels.

I did want it. But I guess its cool that they're selling a 32gb version, just hope it's not an outrageous price. But I've never modded a phone without removable storage before. Either way, I'm buying on launch day.ill be importing from the UK since T-Mobile hasn't said a peep about it and I don't feel like waiting another month or two or three

[Q] A couple of questions regarding sdhc card + screen protectors

What's the difference between class? I see class 10 and class 4, class 4 is a lot cheaper then 10 but what's the actual difference? Does class 10 transfer files faster or something?
and also can anybody recommend a good screen protector? I had one come free with my case on eBay but it doesn't even fit the whole screen

Class refers to the minimum read/write speed in MB/sec. Reputable brands actually adhere to these speeds while others are relatively meaningless.

As stated above for SD cards.
And for screen protectors, get Xtreme guards, simoly looked amazing in my One X. Waiting for them to come in the mail for the S3 now.

Depends on what you do with that card.
If it's a big card and you often transfer large files to and from it, transfer speed does matter.
If you record HD videos directly to your sd card and your card isn't fast enough your video might stutter or have artifacts.
If you put games on your SD card and those games depend on high transfer rates, you might get lag.
But since the S3 has at least 16GB of internal memory you should have enough space to put stuff that need high transfer rates to your fast internal memory.
A class 2 or 4 sd card should suffice for most people. If you need the high transfer rates though, you'll have to go with a faster card.

Cards get memory lag which means they slower to access files when they filled with a load of files, so ignore the class ratings because a decent quality Class 4 works better in everyday use than a cheap Class 10 even if it can potentially transfer faster.
And files for a phone aren't usually neatly lined up so easily the best value card is Class 6 or 10 SanDisk Ultra then you know your phone can handle anything you throw at it.

Look for a seller with a much higher feedback because there's a serious chance you could get scammed with a fake card there.
But if you find a genuine one that is a good one, but personally I'd spend a bit more for the 32gb card then you know you've always got enough space if your needs change.

Oh yeah I just saw the feedback, how can I see if it's fake? I'd definitely return the card if it turned out to be fake..

People setup new accounts and build up a few hundred fake feedback pm more people are likely to buy from them, I mean I'm not saying by any means this is a scammer but just find another seller with feedback in the thousands to be more safe.
And the only way to tell if it's a fake is run a benchmark in your computer and check the card and packaging look real compared to pictures.

If you only want to watch movies a class10 is probably overkill. The problem is when you want to use the camera to record 1080p movies.
There is a difference between write and read speeds of flash memory like sd cards. They usually are pretty fast when it comes to reading but writing speed is another matter.
You should be fine with a good class4 card like one from sandisk.

what about writing to my internal and copying over to my SD if I need to?

Writing from your internal to your external memory will be as slow/fast as writing from a cardreader to your sd card. Depending on the writing speed of said card.
When your sd card is too slow for direct 1080p recording your suggestion is a valid way to record those videos without lag. Record onto the fast internal memory and then move it to the slower external memory when you need space on the internal one. The sd card will still be fast enough to play the video.
Would be annoying if you had to do that a lot, though. If that's the case you should spend the extra money for a faster sd card.
I have no idea how fast that card has to be. I never had a device that can record in 1080p. However, I'm using an htc hd2 and run most of my apps(including games) from my sd card and in the beginning even the OS. I never noticed any stuttering or lag that didn't come from the OS itself. I've been using sandisk class2 for that and moved to a bigger sandisk class4 recently. No decernible improvement other than that it's a little faster to copy files from my computer to my phone and back, now.
Those cards are rather inexpensive nowadays, especially when we are talking about only 16GB. Don't think about it too much. Just buy one and try. If you have problems with the speed, use it as a flash drive and get a faster card for your phone.

I'm surprised noone has mentioned this yet. But do not buy that card. That auction is for a SDHC card, our phones are only compatible with Micro SD(HC) cards. If you buy that card, you will not be able to use it in your phone. You will need to find a Micro SDHC card.

To be honest I can't even see me using the 11GB you get on the phone unless it's music, an 8GB would do me just fine but I'm going to get the 16GB just in case, I'm only really getting one for rooting

I'm in the UK, and I've got a question about the trident case too.
It has a screen that you put over the front, does this mean I'll have to detach the case just to use the phone? The otterbox case looks great and well worth the money after seeing an anchor get dropped without leaving a mark on the case let alone the phone

If you are in the UK, I think you should have a look to this people ebay, I buy everything from them, they now have a nice screen protector and various cases and battery covers (I personally take a lot of care of my phone), check this out:

[Q] How are you getting by on space with the 16 GB model?

I generally buy tablets with at least 32 gb. I bought the iPad Air with 64 because I learned my lesson with the iPad 2 and filling it up.
When I went to Best Buy to pick up a Note 10.1 2014, they only had the 16 gb model. I could have waited, or picked it up somewhere else, but I wanted to take advantage of Best Buy's financing (18 months no interest) and I hate waiting for things.
After installing all of my apps and downloading the data for them, I have about 6 gb left. The problem is, I read a lot of comics. A typical comic in the Comixology app will run you about 100 mb or so. I delete many of them when I have read them, but I fall behind on my reading fairly regularly and accumulate quite a few. I also have a lot of articles in Pocket that I'm behind on and that takes about 600 mb.
Apps to SD is a myth on Samsung devices. I have confirmed that when you move an app to SD, it just moves it to a folder called "emulated" and really doesn't free up any space. Add to that that Pocket's "store cache on SD" feature isn't working and Comixology won't store comics on the external SD and I can basically only use the SD card slot for movies and music. So, I'm wodering: Will 16 (9) GB be enough? Or do I need to take this thing back and get the 32 gb model?
My real question is: How are those of you with the 16 gb model getting by? Is your internal space filled up? Are you wishing you had the bigger model?

Ive had other tabs that were 16g and as long as I was mindful of where I stored my books and photos I never ran inyo problems. I also make sure my email only syncs 5 days. With my work and personal accounts I get way to many. For reading I use Moonreader because unlike aldiko it doesn't force me to put my books on the device. Hope this helped

I have had 16 GB tablets as well, but they generally have much more of that 16 gb available. All of the touchwiz and SPen features leave us with just over 8 GB on this thing. There's also the issue that, if we fill it up completely, it will hurt performance. So we really only have about 6-7 total out of the box.
I'm taking it back and getting the 32GB model. I love the tablet, but I need internal space.

Add to that that Pocket's "store cache on SD" feature isn't working and Comixology won't store comics on the external SD and I can basically only use the SD card slot for movies and music. You can use Folder Mount to move programs to the SD Card too.

Same here thinking of selling my 16gb and get a 32gb. Games alone fills up storage fast. Having an sd car doesnt help either

Just got a 16GB at Best Buy for the same reason as OP (wanted to use financing, didn't want to wait) - haven't done anything with it yet, but I'm getting more and more nervous that I'm going to run into trouble with the storage space - I expected to be able to move more onto an external SD card, but it sounds like that's not so workable after all?
If I root, I have more options, but I'm reluctant to do that if I don't have to... Anyone else have a similar conundrum?

Not sure if this is an option for you, but I bought the 32 gb model from Newegg with my preferred account. 12 months no payment or interest. And no sales tax unless you live in CA. Taking the 16 back to Best Buy. Better too much space than not enough.

So you have the 16 GB and over 11 GB free? That I can live with, and it's about what I would have expected from the OS and bloatware... I can't decide if I want to try fot the 32 or just deal with the 15 (I'm not going to game with it, and movies/media I'd run off the SD card no matter what)...
I'm in a state of acute analysis paralysis! Someone decide for me...

you'e kind of answered it yourself tbh...Gaming will take up the majority of the space of a tablet. Applications are normally around 20mb to a max of 100mb and some rare ones larger. Games on the other hand well the high graphic games anyways are over a 1GB so space would be an issue if you were to play loads of games.
honestly if you have no intentions of gaming 16GB would be plenty for you although if you could afford the 32GB then go for it since its always nice to have loads of space.
Ofcourse only you can really decide but I'm holiding out for a 32GB because I would like to have atleast a handful of 1GB games to keep me busy when I'm at the airport waiting for my flight or on the flight itself.

I recently pre-ordered the Sony Xperia Z2 which only comes in 16gb so I am forced to get extra storage, but I have a few question regarding micro SD cards. While reading my post please keep in mind I am still a noob. :angel:
1) Is 32gb enough or is it recommended to get 64gb? I will probably watch movies and TV shows but will not be putting music on the phone since I am not a fan for personal reasons. I have also heard that bigger SD cards can slow your phone down and some people tend to have problems with them, is this true?
2) What brand shall I get? SanDisk or Samsung? I have read that even though two micro SD cards are the same size and same class there is still a difference due to the brands.
3) Apart from the storage size and the class of the card is there anything else I should be looking out for?

Hm....the xperia z2......it has up to 128 gb memory expansion according to gsm arena. If you want to save movies and tv shows to your phone, I suggest you buy a 64 gb memory stick, so you can save more stuff. As for the brand, there's no actual difference to me, and as for the bigger size that makes the phone slower, that's not true, unless you have your memory stick full of stuff like music, videos/movies/tv shows, images and such stuff (note that I have mine with such stuff loaded and I have no problems). Apart from the storage size and the card class, no, I think you're going to be alright. Hope I helped...

if you are a Movie TV fans,i suggest you add a 64gb extra storage,then u could smoothly enjoy the show and u can save more tv show you like

I agree, i fill up a 32 gb like its nothing. and thats just pictures and videos. if you use instagram it fills up allot faster.

Alright, I'll go for the 64gb one and Samsung seems like the reasonable choice to make.

suggest you to get a 64GB extra storage.

We can't really answer that. If you don't re-encode movies you'll likely quickly fill up 32GB. On the other hand, bigger cards get cheaper, faster and more reliable (ok, not always) over time. I'd decide by price, you can always easily replace it later.
