damaged sd card, help please - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

ok...so I am a noob to rooting. but i was able to successfully root my gs3 with the latest cm10 nightly rom dated 9/04. My external sd 64gb card keeps coming up as a damaged card. so i took it to my pc..reformatted and did a chkdsk x: \f and that worked on my pc. i can see 64gb on the card. but when i put the card back in to the phone, it still says damaged sd card. if i click format..it just unmounts forever and then just goes back to the home screen. any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Some roms like cm 10 and a few others when the phone boots that comes ip in the staus bar if thaats what u mean dont worry about it..

under storage it also does not show that i have a 64gb card installed. so not only does the notification say that the card is damaged even though my pc will detect and use the card fine..but the storage on the phone is limited to the 16gb that came with the phone

Is your card exfat or fat32? Cm doesn't recognize exfat.

I'm having the same exact problem. Using a Sandisk class 10 64gb SD card.
I tried formating to FAT32 using a utility mentioned
here

I ended up using Guiformat and that worked
I did a chkdsk x: /r from command line first. Then I ran that app above on my pc and it worked

Thank you!

Google the HP format tool. It looks just like the windows format tool but fixes format issues the windows one cannot.

Yeah, I had this happen with the CWM flashed from Rom Manager. I ended up going back to bytecode64's.

Copy your SD card to your computer (all the files), reformat the SD card in Windows, and then copy your files back on it. Then CWM Touch will see the files.
Thank you, kernelpan1c. Worked perfectly. My next step is to check out your rom. Looks pretty sweet.

I haven't done it with card in the phone. Go get a microSD adapter and format with Windows (considering you have a card reader).

Enable usb mass storage on your phone and windows should let you format it or boot in cwm, go to mount and storage, select mount sd card and then format sd card.

[Q] Flashed to CM10M1 now having SD problems

I just flashed to CM10M1 and it now tells me that my SD is damaged. I have tried to format it using the phone but the unmounting seems to be taking really long. I have already tried formatting it on my PC, which works, as well as transferring files over, which also works, but when I put it into my phone i comes up with the same error. It is a SanDisk 64GB Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC Class 10. Any help?

I've heard some people had a problem after flashing CM10 with backups done with ROM manager. They said deleting the backups solved it, which doesn't really make sense if you've already formatted the card on your computer, but maybe it'll lead you in the right direction.

What format are you running? I think it has a problem with exFAT format.
Running exfat, will try reformatting to NTFS and will get back to you

I figured out how to format but it just tell me now that it is ready to be removed. Does it have to be in exFAT or NTFS when I format it

Try FAT32. It worked for me. It does say ready to be removed in your storage settings but you should also be able to see the external SD card. Use Solid Explorer and see if you can see the external SD.

Cannot copy anything to my sd card

Hello,
i recently bought a new sandisk ultra class 6 8gb micro sd card for my phone..but i can't copy anything to it....the drive shows in computer but when i try to copy something to it, it says "An error has occured. The destination you specified does not exist. It might be in an offline network location or an empty CD or DVD drive. Check the location and try again. "
Also, i received one adapter with it...through which i can copy stuff onto the memory card but the problem is that i can't copy anything on it directly when it is in my phone , i also formatted it twice but still no luckkkkkk
Do i have to use the adapter at all times?? is there any way so that i don't have to use the adapter??
Please Help.
There is no problem with your memory card, your phone software/hardware may has some problem.

and also my phone wasn't rooted before....i mean when i used both of those memory cards....
its just doesnt work, there is a compatibility problem with some sd cards in wfs, you have to buy another brand of sd card it will probably fix your problem, but i think you should try the card before buying it in order to make sure there is no compatibility problem.

TWRP microSD problems

Hey guys, I did a quick search and couldn't find an answer. Basically, I'm having trouble with TWRP -- it won't mount/recognize my SD card at all. All the advice I've seen so far is to format the microSD card as fat32. Unfortunately, this fix doesn't work for me, as my SD is already formatted to fat32.
Are there any other alternate options?
Thanks!
EDIT: this is on TWRP 2.3.2.3
you probably need to update TWRP. If you rooted using the Galaxy Note 2 tool kit, it's a slightly older version. Here's the thread on TWRP, which you can find the latest version.
I think i'm on the newest version. I updated it a couple days ago using goo manager to 2.3.2.3, which seems to be the newest one
that would be the newest. I had that problem till I updated. My SDXC card is formatted in NTSF. Maybe, you need to reformat it in your phone.
yea, I'll try that. wish me luck

It seems that I can't format my SD card through TWRP. The phone itself sees the SD card just fine except when inside TWRP

I'll check in a little bit phone is dead and cycling battery. But my 32gb showed up. Are you sure you're not changing it to show external storage
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
you need to go into advance menu, file manager. Then you need to look externalSDCard directory or similar name. That's your SDXC card. Don't use that external/internal option in one of the other menus.
This tends to be case in some of the file manager apps as well such as ES File Explorer.
ok, so, it seems it's not under external_sdcard, but under sdcard. So I guess to access the sdcard i have to go through that. Thanks for the help
Is there any way I can change the default backup location for TWRP to use the SD card? I can't backup to internal storage since I don't have enough space
I had a similar issue with this 2 days ago. ..Could not mount the 64gig sd card in trwp but works fine on the phone. ..I updated to the newest twrp yesterday and that resolve the issue. ..

I don't understand your problem when you go to twrp click install, you have the option to check to either internal or external right at the top.

This internal/external partition card storage is kinda hidden in plain sight...presuming the OP's SD card isn't toast.

Hidden in plain sight, really not that hard to see lol. If you can't take the 3 seconds to look where it says internal or external you shouldn't even bother trying to worry about it simple as that.

Tapping on "use external SD" just has it snap back to "use internal storage" and the error message "unable to mount '/external_sdcard'" comes up. So no, it's not that I'm blind.

Can you help me recover my SD card contents?

I have a SanDisk 64gb micro sd card that my GN2 has decided is corrupted. I was using the JediX13 ROM but decided to try ParanoidAndroid. When I reverted back to the Jedi ROM my card could not be read.
I know my files are still there because when I load up TWRP recovery I can see all of them. Is there a way I can recover my files? Whenever I plug it into my computer it asks me to format it before I use it.
