locking phone takes a long time - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

When I hit the power button for my phone to lock it, it sometimes takes five or seven seconds to actually shut down. Are there any settings or rogue apps that I could look for to see what causes this? Waking up seems to be ok, but I guess it could be faster (takes like a second or two sometimes, usually pretty much instantaneous).

I experienced a similar problem using trinity kernel and I never figured out the cause. I had to go back to stock.

Hmm.. I am on stock, rooted.

I'm completely stock and no such a problem, you don't have any apps that do anything when lock or unlock?

One X takes awhile to unlock screen

Anyone having an issue of a serious lag when pressing the power key to unlock the screen? taking about 30 seconds for the ring to come up to unlock... just a black screen.
Yeah I've noticed same thing.when I put my sensation next to one-x and unlock, sensation unlocks a bit faster.but appart from that I think everything else is ok,but I'm a bit ov a newbie so there could be things I'm missing.all in all,I'm happy, wicked phone.

30 secs is unacceptaple... Did you install something or changed some setting somewhere?
If it remains like that all the time, maybe you should do a factory reset...
No, actually only got the phone and noticed it, I'll try a factory reset... Was gonna try a custom Rom to remove the bloatware and see if that solved it as I noticed there is a lot of 3 apps and processes

I'm still using stock and I'm.finding the phone snappy and fast no delay in the lock screen.

you know if you go into settings and apps you can disable all the apps that you do not use..my phone came with all the 3 bloatware and just disabled them..seems pretty ok now and all the rubbish have been removed...it is the same thing like when you freeze apps with TB but this one actually removes them from the app screen to try it out
actually just read up on that and cleared most bloatware from the app drawer

no, mine is fast...very fast
Up up up..
30 seconds point that there is something terribly wrong but, anyone having a slight noticeable delay on turning the screen on? Sometimes it can take up to a full second for the screen to come up completely and the ring to respond.
Last night I checked with my friends Sensation, it's faster quite easily noticed. Now tried with my girlfriends stock Desire S, it is indeed fast as lightning.
I'm too afraid to compare with my HD2..
Any ideas,?

Galaxy Note 2 lagging after a few days of use??

I got my phone last monday and today my phone was lagging while swipping through home screens, app drawer and even in settings. It was like project butter was shutdown and I was back to the epic 4g. Thought kind strange giving the specs on this phone.. I have stock jb and no root.
After a restart everything went back to normal.
Just curious, does this happen to everyone here? Is this normal to happen after 2-3 days of use?

You must not be actually closing apps just hitting home I assume but if not then idk the problem
Sent from my SPH-L900
Yes I did close them... I even tried force closing all. Not sure why the phone was struggling a little.
you didn't enable power saving mode by any chance?
also, android should be fairly good at managing your memory. i believe google doesn't really recommend task killers because whenever you kill tasks that the OS needs, it'll just reload it, which itself consumes resources (maybe more resource than letting the process simply idle). so just leave those processes alone.
Are you running SetCPU? Make sure it didn't accidentally severely under clock you. That happened to me once and SETCPU was running me at 200 mhz for some reason.

I would double check on all the apps you've previously installed. I'm still on stock JB unrooted as well since released day (Oct 25), not once I've experience any lag that yours producing. Heck I've loaded a bunch of games and apps now my main storage is down to a gig, even then I haven't noticed any slow down. This phone is a beast thats all I can say.

Yeah, thats unfortunate because if anything the phone should speed up after a few days of use. Why don't you just keep it to the 1 thread you started in the GT 7100 forum? You already got 4 pages of responses there. And post a video of what you're talking about because the phone should not lag at all with power savings off.

I didn't strat a thread there... just replied to one and it was a different are of problem anyway..
Guys.. I didn't install any task killer, I just force off using that long pressing home button and going into running apps, the phone, no power saving mode on, still unrooted and very few apps. I use Android for 3 years and I looked all the places to make sure settings would not be causing this and it was not.
Really weird problem... it's fine now I just hope it keeps running this way by tomorrow.. I'll let you all know, if anything I'll make a video if I can reproduce.

Don't close the apps down just back out of them because you'll lag more when your phone sits there trying to open them all up again and cache them. But I agree its a strange problem, if this occurs againit might be something very specific.

That's strange. Yeah I would pay close attention to the problem and if it do come back, then maybe you probably have a bad note II. You never know, not everything are created equal. In that case I would take it in for a repair person to check it out.
Is there a way to know if all cores are running on stock Android?
I've also seen some sick battery life in this phone, but not on mine. Yesterday I got 12 hours with about 3 1/2 of screen, with few and short phone calls. What I used the most on this phone was the internet and the browser..
Not sure if these are related.
EDIT.... I installed CPU usage Monitoring and the 4th core stays off most of the time.. when I opened videos and messed with more apps it started working so I'm answering myself on that. Also, I played a video with the pop up function and the cpu only gets to about 30% and not even on all cores... wow.. the processing power here is really impressive.

Am I the only one whose GN2 locks up every once in a while?

I've been having gn2 from at&t for about 2 months. It's awesome in most respects but it sometimes locks up cold. By cold, I mean that the only way to fix it is to pull out battery for some extended time - 5-10 min. Usually it happens when I use some software, typically accessing network. Just now it happened when I used Chrome beta.
Also it happens sometimes after graceful shutdown that it locks up immediatelly on boot.
Seems to happen with any rom that I tried.
Does anyone else have similar problems? I wonder if it's hardware defect.

I was experiencing lock ups on earlier 7105 ROMs I was using. I thought power cycling was the only way then I discovered if you take out the S-pen (and then put it back) it would unfreeze the device. Maybe give that a shot next time, in case its similar.
Mine would freeze randomly...

I have never had a problem with mine, but it is still stone stock. That will be changing shortly tho...
I haven't had any lockups per se, but I've had 2 random reboots. I've had the device a week. Rooted, on stock.
I've had this phone for 5 months roughly. It has never locked on stock, Clean ROM, CM 10.1
It really shouldn't be locking up ever

Mine used to do that. Turns out the problem was Superuser. If you have Superuser, and not SuperSU, installed, try switching them and see if it clears up the lock ups.
I would also get weird notifications about "shell" and "radio" trying to get root access.

I had this problem on my SII.
My girl had this problem as well. To remedy it first I wiped the external sd card. Wiped everything off of it incase of some bs data.
Then I wiped and re flashed the rom and only restored mms and the call log with tibu. The rest of the apps she had I manually installed them one by one from the market.
Now doing the above two cleaned up a lot of lockups but it was still happening. Final thing that actually stopped the freezes was getting rid of Chrome. Why was Chrome causing issues, I have no idea but after removal the phone never randomly rebooted and after getting use to the stock browser it's been smooth sailing.

Edit: sorry just for reference both my phone and hers are running SkyNote 6 with the 6.7 update and the saber 13.4 release.

Chrome definitely may be a culprit. It happened to me often when using it. What is interesting is that it wouldn't reboot unless battery is out for few minutes. It feels like some memory state , perhaps in modem, gets corrupted and isn't cleared during boot.
And it was happening at times with freshly flashed rom with full wipe.
I have this issue too. I know for sure it is ROM or Kernel related as it never does it if I revert back to stock ROM and Kernel. Mine seems to be in a really deep sleep when it happens. I hold the power button for about 15 seconds and the phone reboots and everything is fine for a few days again.

[Q] Freezing

Is anyone having any issues with their 2013 N7 freezing? I've had it completely freeze up on me once, and several time just today it has had major input lag (like 2-3 seconds later) or would just not accept input. It hasn't been localized to any particular app.
Is this a common problem? Should I just go exchange mine?
Seems like a software issue which can be easily remedied.

When I first got my new Nexus 7 I did notice some "freezes" and unresponsiveness. Touches that would go unrecognized (links in the browser, back button). did a factory reset and watched it in case I decided I needed to exchange it. But it is seemed to improve and I rarely run into the freezing.
I've so far not returned/exchanged it, but an still keeping an eyes on it.
I have most certainly experienced a heavy freeze period while typing on the onscreen keyboard. While typing in all the credentials on first set-up I experienced moments of almost 20 seconds of non-response, followed by all input entering as if it was lagged out network style.
Rooting and flashing a new rom, this has yet to happen. This is why I love Android so much... its community knows that it is Unix and treats it as such.
Yea mines freeze sometimes

yeah sometimes mine locks up for like a good 15 seconds.. hitting the power button doesn't shut the screen off either.. then when it unfreezes, it does everything I did lol like pull down the bar, hit home, and the screen off

Same issue. I think I will factory reset it + install cleanrom with the jassy kernel and see if it helps. If not, I will swap it. I love this thing! Its getting more love than my ipad atm, but I think I can make room for both of them in my already-gadget-overloaded life lol.

I was wondering if its really the kernal that's causing the freezing. My N7 2013 right now freezes after about 15 minutes of turning it on, and the only way to unfreeze is by holding down the power for 10 seconds. My tablet will constantly do this after each turn on, but once I placed it in safe-mode there is no freezing. I am thankful that mine doesn't have the touch screen issue though! but this freezing problem is really driving me bonkers.
I nodded off for a few minutes the other day when I had FBReader up and when I woke up and tried to exit it was non-responsive. I get the impression FBReader forces the screen to stay on, but perhaps everything else goes to sleep anyway? That's the only freeze I can remember seeing.

wake up issue?

Occasionally I notice in the mornings after my phone has been undisturbed all night that when I try to wake it, it won't. The home and back lights come on and sometimes the screen flashes, but it sometimes takes a minute for my screen to come on. Initially I thought it was a Rom issue, so I went back to stock, same issue, and now I'm on ecliptic and its also an issue. So I think it's safe to say it's the phone itself. I've tried removing the lockscreen to but makes no difference. It's not a constant issue, but happens more often then I'd like and annoying when I want to use my phone but have to wait up to a minute for it to "wake up". It will go right back to this state also unless I use it for a couple minutes. Any ideas?
