Need help unrooting htc one x - HTC One X

I bought a htc one x rooted not knowing that at the time. I know its got charmeleon 1.29.401.11 software and the kernel version says 2.6.39.4-gc993261 [email protected] #1
Also i have the app supersu but when i open it up it says ''There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
Dont have a clue what this is but i want my phone back to stock because ever since i bought the phone i have had problems esspecialy with PkMn Tweaks which never works properly. It is very good to have it rooted so i would either like to get it all fixed or just unroot it fully
Any help would be much grateful Thanks !

To go back to stock you need to relock the bootloader and flash a ruu here's a list of ruu http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543604
And to fix the problem you need to flash supersu.zip in cwm recovery or flash a custom rom

Since the phone is already unlocked, you might as well go ahead and install a Sense custom ROM to get the maximum out of it. A sense custom ROM like Viper X or ARHD will keep the stock look and feel and all the sense goodies while allowing you to tweak it as you like. My personal favorite is Viper X, it has lots of tweak options already built in with an easy to use app, and supports OTA updates.

I am new to all of this so how would i do that then ?
thanks !

just typed in viperx and it looks very simular to the charmeleon i have but alot better i just dont have a clue how to do any of the things like flashing the rom or what a bootloader is i want to learn what it all is but just need someone to teach me haha

To install a custom ROM you need to have a custom recovery like Clockwork Mod Recovery (CWM). Since you already have a custom ROM you should already have CWM. You can check by rebooting into HBOOT (Boot loader) by holding down the Vol down and power button at the same time, and then select “Recovery” from HBOOT menu options.
If you can successfully boot into CWM then all you have to do is download the appropriate ROM file, flash the correct boot.img then flash the ROM from CWM.
Have a look at this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ix1XKErVikY
The steps are same for any ROM.
Just to summarize the main points:
Make sure your bootloader is unlocked and CWM is installed and working properly
Download the ROM zip (check the MD5 to verify integrity of the file) then copy it onto the phone
Reboot into HBOOT (Vol down + Power)
Select Fastboot
Flash boot.img (using flashboot.exe from command prompt)
Once done select HBOOT again then Recovery to boot into CWM
Install Zip from SD card and choose the ROM zip
Do a full Wipe within the installer (This is important!)
Follow the wizard to complete the installation (if you want to keep the stock look select stock theme), the installation wizard for Viper X is little different from what is shown on that video, but the steps are clear and easy to follow.

Wildfire ROM update - backup questions

Hi everyone,
I'm using a HTC Wildfire and am considering changing from stock (HTC non-branded) to CyanogenMod for a number of minor reasons. Could anyone just confirm that I got a few points right before I get started:
- Recovery is totally independent from the ROM itself, right? So I can flash ClockWorkMod Recovery only, continue to use the stock ROM, but have the additional features of ClockWorkMod available, such as backup, with which I can create a complete backup of the stock ROM. In case I don't like CyanogenMod, I can restore the stock image and be exactly where I left it, Apps, Settings and everything (of course the new Recovery will still be installed.) Is this correct?
- I'm planning to do the following steps (I read about the details, just want to confirm the basics):
x use the Revolutionary way to S-OFF and install new Recovery
x create full image backup of the stock ROM using the new Recovery
x install new ROM (ClockWorkMod)
x if I don't like CM: restore image created before to return to stock
-> This should work, shouldn't it?
- One more: What will happen if the the phone is S-OFF, an alternative Recovery is installed, and a HTC Firmware-Update is attempted? Will this work at all, will it update just the ROM, or will it update the Recovery, too? S-OFF will not be changed back to S-ON, right?
Thanks for your help.
Regards
1. Yes, the recovery is in it's own partition and is independent from the ROM
2. The recovery creates a "snapshot" of your current ROM. So when you restore, it'll be just the way you left it.
3. There's no need to do any HTC Firmware updates after installing a custom ROM (infact, I'm almost 100% sure that it won't work)
As a basic answer yes you go ahead with what you posted.just make sure your hboot version is compatible with revolutionary 1st etc etc.
As for HTC firmware update question,if your talking about the over the air updates I'm not sure but I think it would update your hboot thus reverting back to s-on status again so best not accept it if you do get one (turn off in settings)
Edit : ninja'd lol

No, the manual ones you can download directly from HTC and install via USB. My understanding was that this would kill everything flashable, including radio and recovery. It would be reassuring to have a worst-case way to go back to stock in case the image-restore fails for whatever reason.

Ah sorry never dealt with any firmware updates. There are ruu.exe to help get back to stock if something goes wrong I think.

You can go completely back to stock, s-on and all but believe me once you have cwm installed there really is no point unless its for warranty reasons, backup fails are rare with the latest recoveries + if it does fail with your first backup you can always post here and we will explain how to extract a stock Rom from an ruu to put things back to how they where before or you can flash a custom sense Rom and modify it to your liking.

Yea, exactly. I'm a little on the paranoid side, I know... ;-)
Ok, I'm on my way now. I've performed the "Revolutionary" S-OFF and am now running "Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4". Is this an out-of-date version?
I've read about ROM-Manager being able to auto-check for and flash a new Clockworks Recovery, but I've also read that ROM-Manager needs root. I have not yet flashed a new ROM, so I assume that I'm not yet rooted, am I? Can I find a ZIP of CWM that I can directly flash from the SD-card?
Does the CWM-version I'm running have any effect on the "quality" of the image backup? In other words, if I create a backup now, will I be able to restore it later running a different version of CWM?
The "different version backup restore" is a bit wonky and won't always work.
To flash a different recovery from the SD card do this:
1. Place this file on your SD card (Not in any folders!): http://www.multiupload.com/74EW2VPNHL
2. Boot into the bootloader
3. Wait a bit and then it should prompt you to update
4. Click the volume+ key to update
5. Remove SD card
6. Boot into the new recovery and insert the SD card
7. Go under mounts and select Mount USB storage
8. Delete the PCIMG file from your computer

I tried to, but I couldn't use the link. The whole domain seems to be down - maybe another holy crusade of Big Content, who knows. They sure leave fans in their wake, don't they.
Since you indicated that updating would be ok for the wildfire I went to http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager and downloaded the file recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-buzz.zip.
However, I'm not sure how to handle it: If I put it on the card under this name, nothing happens on bootloader-start. In recovery, I can select the file and install it, and then I immidiatly get a newly colored menu with the new CWM version 5.something. However, once I restart, the old CWM (v4.x) is there again.
I assume I need to use a magic filename so that the bootloader performs the update, not the (already running) recovery. Right?
**EDIT: Ah, disregard. I believe I found the answer myself.
Do you have fastboot?
If you do I can give you the recovery.img I'm using, which you can flash via fastboot.
Yes, fastboot is available.
Thank you.
Okay, here's how you flash a recovery via fastboot.
1. Extract the .zip I attached to the location where you fastboot is
2. Reboot phone in the bootloader
3. Select fastboot and attach USB cable
4. Open up the command prompt and type in "cd [location of fastboot]
5. Type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
6. You're done
Oh and by [location of fastboot] I mean that you type in the location of fastboot.
Wow - this was fun. There was something really curious going on with my device: Whatever I tried, no "official" way worked to modify CWM v4 to v5. In every case, the menu of the new version showed up and was usable, but was gone again after restart. After the file-on-card method got me nowhere (file was not recognized), I tried the high road and installed ROM-Manager. This complained about missing su. So I installed su. After that ROM-Manager downloaded CWM v5 and put it onto the card (into a file named update.zip - ahh... ) On restart, the CWM-install-screen came up, then the v5 menu.
And after restart, it was gone again. Even ROM-Manager was confused: He showed v5 as "installed", when in fact it was still v4. ;-)
So finally I downloaded the Android SDK (to get fastboot.exe) and performed the flash as you suggested in the first place. And it worked. First try, without hitch, permanently.
Thank you very much for your help!
Regards
The problem with ROM Manager's version is that it's only temporary and can only be accessed from the ROM Manager itself

im lost.. dont know what to do anymore.

sup guys!
I would like to have the JB update from ARHD 16 but im totally lost in the proces of how to do it.
i succesfully unlocked the bootloader
Installed Custom recovery and did a nandroid backup
also my phone is rooted
-Downloaded the custom rom
-Downloaded the flash boot IMG
soo what is the exact thing i need to do know? i know i need to update Hboot.. but when and how. also i want a custom kernel for max battery life.. IM CONFUSED!?!
with my motorola defy it was so easy..
First you need to update your HBOOT.
Easiest way is using >> THIS tools thanks to Stuart001.
After you succesfully done that you can flash the rom, a rom flash instruction is described in rom thread where you download the rom.zip.
Normal steps go like this:
upload downloaded rom.zip to storage on your device
flash boot.img
clear cache
install rom.zip using recovery option
Aroma installer (in rom.zip) has an option to wipe your device, I suggest you do that during rom install as well.
Of course this will erase all data, I'm just trying to help and don't take any responsibility.
if you have a supporting cid. Then only you can install jb sense roms.
ah nevermind. already found out how by chrashing my phone haha. i already solved it and now running custom rom!

Flashing ROMs

Hello everybody!
Firstly I'd like to apologize for posting a few threads here recently! I'll be picking up this device in under 2 weeks when I get paid and I'll be tinkering with it as soon as possible so I'd rather know what I'm doing now instead of waiting till I get the device and then start asking questions and getting help so...
I'm not a complete noob when it comes to Android phones. I've flashed both of my devices and messed around with other things along with ROM Porting etc so the HTC One V shouldn't be too much of a challenge/task for me to mess about with!
Basically, when I get the device I'll be using the Toolkit to unlock bootloader and install a recovery then flash the PROVISION ROM as it seems to be the best for me.
So when I open the Toolkit do I simply follow the instructions to unlock the Bootloader followed by flashing a Recovery (Which one is recommended? I've used Clockworkmod on my past devices) then the next option is flashing a Kernel, which one do I choose or can I just skip this part and reboot my device into recovery and start flashing? And will I need to flash the Superuser app via the Toolkit or are the ROMs pre-rooted?
The ROM which I want to flash (Provision) mentions something about flashing the boot.img in the zip folder before flashing the ROM, how do I go about flashing that or can I just flash the ROM folder with the boot.img in it and that's fine?
Finally, does this device have decent internal memory or will I need to use A2SD scripts and move my Dalvik to SD?
Any nice idiot-proof tutorial/help would be great.
Thanks.
I recommend cwm I find it more easy to use. But u may always try the other. flash the kernel inside the rom.zip or any other one that is prescribed by the dev(u will have to flash kernel from fastboot,u can't skip it as the rom won't boot without this step)how to flash is described in the link given below .most Roms are pre-rooted if not flash the superSU.zip from recovery.
I have accidentally thanked you enjoy!
See this for info regarding flashing-

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it.
I've created a folder on my desktop with the Toolkit in along with the Provision rom zip, the gapps and the boot file. Do I basically follow the toolkit then fastboot the boot.img then reboot into recovery and flash the rom and gapps then reboot and everythings fine? Also should I keep the boot.img inside the zip or should I remove it now?
no harm if you keep it

[Q] Bricked my One X, really need help of a wiser people. Please

I've been following xda for a while now, but this is my first post so please take it easy on me, if I posted this in the wrong thread.
I am not new to rooting and costom roms. I have successfully rooted one phone before and I used it for a more than a year, didn't have any problems at all. Yesterday I got myself HTC One X and today I tried to root it and somehow got myself stucked/bricked.
The phone is stuck on HTC Quietly brilliant screen. I can get into bootloader, but thats it. What can I do? I already tried to flash back the original ROM, but couldn't get device to connect to PC. I looked all over the forum and googled it and still can't seem to find the solution. Any help would be highly apprechiated.

Which recovery have you installed? If it's twrp you can mount SD from there put a custom ROM on it with superuser (root) flash that ROM from recovery and you have root. It's by far the easiest way to flash a custom ROM to get root instead of getting root on a stock ROM.
And BTW, the hox is not easy to brick of you ask me so don't panic (yet)

need to be more specific. did it happend just after you tried rooting? or did you try to install/flash rom/kernel/(recovery etc)
try to root again . use this tool. its the easiest. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604439
i m no expert but from my experience your problem occurs when you flash incampatable kernel..also, we cannot s-off our one x so you have to flash the kernel (named as boot.img, if not , you rename it) manually via fastboot. (download sdk tools) when flashing new rom.

As you said, I used that tool. I installed HTC Drivers, registered at HTCDev, got TokenID, submitted it and unlocked Bootloader. Everything went ok, the only thing that was wrong was with the MTP device driver, which failed to install every time. (I think that was the reason why it disconnected with PC). I then procceded to Perm Root where it got stuck on the phone with red explanation point screen. From there I could still reset phone to a normal state like there was no changes.
Then I tried InsecureBootAndRoot, followed the steps and shortly after it started rooting, the program closed and it was stuck here. I tried to do it again, but I got the message: Waiting for a device.
Can you explain in more detail, how to flash kernel manually, if my computer doesn't recognize device?

If you want cyanogen you need a custom recovery like TWRP. That recovery you can flash through fastboot but like you said there is something wrong with your drivers. Did you install HTC sync on your PC. And did you enable USB debugging in your current ROM?

No you don't need root to flash a custom ROM. Flashing a custom ROM will give you root. So you are doing things the wrong way. If you can get into cwm then make sure you have cyanogen.zip and gapps.zip on your phone. Extract(copy) the boot.IMG file from cyanogen. Then from cwm do a nandroid backup, full wipe except SD card, flash cyanogen, flash gapps. Then from cwm boot into boot loader, make sure you place the extracted boot.IMG in your fastboot folder on PC and in command line give commands: fastboot flash boot boot.img then: fastboot erase cache then: fastboot reboot Then you can unplug USB and it will start cyanogen and you have root.

I extracted boot.img from Cyanogenmod zip file (that is the same for everybody, right?). I did a Nandroid backup like you said But now all I can do is wipe data/factory reset (CWM Recovery v5.8.4.0). I can't find an option to wipe only selected things.

From Stock 5.1.1 to Custom 5.1.1

Dear XDA Members,
I currently run stock 5.1.1 (14.6.A.1.236) with no modifications whatsoever and a locked bootloader.
I would like to install a custom rom (PAC-ROM LP-MR1 5.1.1) on my Z1C.
I did some research and these are the steps i came up with:
1. install sdk and drivers
2. unlock bootloader
3. fastboot flash recovery "fota.img" (shouldn't it specify somehow that i need it to be flashed on the fota partition?)
4. factory reset/wipe
5. install custom rom + gapps
Coming from a locked bootloader a fully stock phone is there anything else i need to do like a new bootloader or something?
Also I'll be doing it through Win 10 64bit, I hope that isn't a problem.
Any advice will be highly appreciated.
Thank you very much

First things first... Root. If you already did that then you're on the right track.
1. If you're not doing major development stuff, don't install the whole sdk. See here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48915118 There may be issues you'll have to work with on newer versions of Windows. I haven't done it on anything later than 7. Keep in mind, though, that you won't need the computer to flash your boot img or rom, but you will need it to unlock the bootloader.
2. -
3. You can do this with an app called Rashr on your phone with root. Just download a recovery img, then open Rashr and follow the instructions.
4-5. Boot into recovery, full wipe, (system data and caches), flash rom zip and gapps zip. Maybe best to not flash more than that at once to start, in case there's a problem and you have no way to figure out what it is.
BTW, PacMan is a great choice. I've been using it for months.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I was reading on the cyanogen mod wiki how-to for our phone and it doesn't require a prior root.
I did those steps on my xperia m and it worked and i had never rooted it, the only difference is that i flashed cyanogen recovery and install cm12 which basically roots the phone and then flashed fota recovery.
Should i go this way again to gain root or would you recommend an easier root method for my stock build which is the newest.
If you recommend another root method when should it occur? prior unlocking the bootloader or afterwards?
Thanks
If this is your first time unlocking your bootloader, make sure you backup your DRM-Keys! You need to be rooted for that.
They are lost when bootloader gets unlocked. Some features in regards of camera performance are lost for example.

Thanks

True, if bl is unlocked, then you can flash the kernel and recovery via fastboot, then flash your rom. You may need the boot.img from your rom zip file. Then use commands 'fastboot flash boot' for the boot img, and 'fastboot flash recovery' for recovery. If you're rooted already, you can just do it on the phone.

This is fantastic.
Do you think itll be ok to fastboot flash boot boot.img from cm12.1 rom zip then fastboot flash recovery fota.img instead of the cyanogen recovery that comes with cm12.1?
Do you think that might cause an issue?

Should be fine. It's also a 1 second operation to extract boot.img from your rom zip, which you need already downloaded and on your SD card before you flash imgs. You might even be fine without flashing the boot img - can't hurt to try. Just flash the recovery and reboot and see if you get a purple light. Then, volume button changes purple to orange, and you're in recovery. Some recoveries don't work with some kernels, (been my experience).

I now have cm12.1 with cyanogen recovery.
Which recovery is best for our phone, which one do you use?
I can find 2 options:
FOTA TWRP 2.8.6.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/fota-twrp-recovery-amami-t2909719)
XZDualRecovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647480)
Thanks a lot

I have only used xzdr with stock rom. I think in the past I've had it not work for me on CM, so I just stick to straight twrp by default. I know NUT has always been hard at work and has made steady improvements, so maybe not an issue now. Personally I realized that I only need 1 recovery anyway. There's a newer Twrp here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/twrp-v2-8-6-0-f2fs-z1-z1c-z2-z3-z3c-t3098573
One important fact that has already been probably mentioned is that installing custom roms on your XPERIA will worsen your camera, esp the front one. Keep this in mind.
