For the last one month I was busy reading/watching reviews of almost every android smartphone available in 20K category. There are many phones in this segment ranging from Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus, Samsung S Advance, ‘N’ number of Sony Xperia models like GO, P, U, Sola etc and the HTC One V. I did not considered Nokia/Motorola phones for the reason everyone must be aware of.
I shortlisted Sony Xperia Sola, Xperia U, Samsung Galaxy S Advance and the HTC One V. Xperia U was ruled out as soon as I got to know that it doesn’t have expandable memory slot. Galaxy S Advance too was out of my list as it is not getting ICS and subsequent updates for unknown reasons, don’t know why Samsung is ruining such a good phone. I hardly can see any craze for this phone at XDA forums too. How I wish Samsung provided ICS with this device, Sigh!
Now I was left only with two possible choices – Sony Xperia Sola and HTC One V. Buying a phone in 20K category is very complicated task. Plonking 20,000 Rupees on a mobile is not easy.
No phone in 20K category is perfect – all manufacturers deliberately left out one or other features to create confusion in customer’s mind. Consider Sony here, there are ‘N’ number of Xperia models, no one can remember complete Xperia lineup at one time. In Xperia U they have deliberately removed expandable storage facility and added front camera & removable battery, In Xperia Sola, Sony has added expandable storage facility but removed front camera and removable battery option + Sola is around 3-4K dearer than Xperia U. Why just they can’t make a XPERIA ‘Complete’?
These days companies have promised themselves that they will not sell a complete package to customers, they just want to puzzle them and rob them of their hard earned money. In such conditions customers have no choice but to fall prey to companies. However they can get the one they want by clearly writing their requirements like I did in this case. Just take a pen/paper, write all your requirements and then select a device, tick all requirements fulfilled by it, repeat this process with other devices as well and see which device fulfills maximum user requirements.
In my case I neither could increase my budget and grab the biggies like S III, Iphone4s or One X nor decrease it. So it has to be between Xperia Sola and HTC One V.
My usage includes –
-> Basic phone usage i.e. incoming/outgoing calls and SMSes.
->Photography
-> Internet browsing/Email
-> Music listening
-> Watching movies/YouTube videos
-> Good screen/looks
I wanted the new phone to have excellent battery life/reliability/snob value.
Sony Xperia Sola vs. HTC One V
Pros of Sony Xperia Sola
è Dual core processor
è More internal memory
è NFC enabled
è Good camera
Cons of Sony Xperia Sola
è Ships with Android 2.3
è Poor battery life
Pros of HTC One V
è Looks
è SLCD2 Screen
è Best in class camera
è Ships with latest android + HTC UI.
è Snob Value
è Beats audio
Cons of HTC One V
è Single core processor
è Low internal memory for user data.
I finally zeroed in for HTC One V for its best in class camera which comes with dedicated image chip which provides features like burst mode etc, great screen and good audio quality. It has authentic camera & amazing sound. It lacks the horsepower of Xperia Sola but it will not bother me as I hardly play any games on mobile phones. For serious gamers Xperia Sola will be the right smartphone. And don’t take me wrong – One V does not lag/hangs while playing games/browsing internet and various other activities. So don’t worry it’s just the right mid-range smartphone for you. The interface is super smooth, switching between applications is responsive and easy. Camera is just excellent for my photography needs.
One V comes with poor internal memory so you need the 8GBcard that comes free with it immediately to store your music/photos collection & other documents. However it still comes with 4GB internal memory(user available is very less) and 25 GB dropbox storage free for two years.
I got this device for 18.5K from DASS STUDIOS, Connaught place. I know price is higher than what I could have got through online stores but I am not open to online purchases when it comes to electronic items- the courier guys handles the device very badly(past experiences). With this an 8GB Card, Philips Bluetooth Headset and Airtel internet pack comes as freebies.
At the end of the day I am very happy with the purchase I have made -> do what your heart calls for!
So I got my essential smartphone – Got the One ‘V’ I’ve been waiting for J
PS – The views/opinions in this review are my own based on personal experience in the purchase process and this may vary from person to person.
Thanks for reading folks.

congrats
congrats bluevolt.and welcome to the family.... OneV will not disappoint you. Though I am a bit surprised that you did not consider the "Sony xperia Neo L" in your shortlist. It retails at the same price.

i considered that but it doesn't have FM

You got the right device, the xperia screen res is lower than the one v and thats a big downside.
Maybe a noob q but can we not free up some internal memory with custom Roms?

How much free memory you want??
Sent from my One V using xda premium

Almost bought a Neo L myself. Bigger screen got me but the plasticky build made me go the One V way.
Enjoying the phone right now. Waiting for a 4.0.4 / Sense 4.1 update.

I also had narrowed down to sola and one v...but sola was unavailable and it costed more and had a sad resolution and battery life...hi five bro

What new phone after arc S?

Hey guys! Currently, I own an awesome arc S, but I would like to change my phone. Probably, I will buy myself the phone for Christmas or in November, so I have a lot of time. I was thinking of purchasing SGS3, One X or SG Note. Have I chosen well or you have some suggestions for me? Please, help! I would like my phone to be XFast, have big screen and have at least 2x CPU. The best would be 4x, but SG Note is tempting me...

Personally I wouldn't want anything bigger than the arc... Which rules out all those.
My next phone is likely to be the xperia s, or its successor.
I'm not buying anything until I know it's getting jelly bean in a prompt time scale.
Sent from my LT18i using Tapatalk 2
For me there is no "too large" screen. While I was holding SGS3 or Note in my hands I was feeling like heaven!

Very tempting suggestion, but... Is it sure in 100% that this phone will get custom roms? No. Xperia arc S despite being Sony's flagship phone didn't get a lot of custom roms. This Sony GX is also dual core. I think the only phone with dual core CPU I can have is SG Note. Before buying the Android smartphone I'm also checking independent developers' support.
Note 2 or s3 or one x all are good and more powerfull but by design note may not fit in pocket but it is awsm phone go for s3 or note 2

Acro S... Too small...
In my opinion, I think the Arc/Arcs has a very outstanding design among all the brands and not even the newer Sony model could rival the design. Just look at the curve of the phone.
The Japanese rework of Arc looks tempting, but it is quite pointless to buy a new phone with almost exact same look although with upgraded hardware, well at least in my opinion.
It is a tough choice to abandon such a good looking phone like arc but the S3 seems like a phone that will stay relevant for every tasks for a long time but I personally think S2 looks better than S3 though. Lol
The Galaxy Nexus is a cool choice too, seeing as Google phone will always get extra attention from Google and faster to get all the great upgrades. So the game should run fine on it until the next Google phone is out and it also has big 4.55 or. 65 inch screen and the design is pretty stylish.
My 2 cents.

That's the reason i'm leaving the Sony boat.
Great design phone's but not to many dev's .
Yeah I've been looking for my arc's replacement f or a few weeks now but the only one covering all the features would be HTC EVO 4G LTE(SD slot, big battery, 720p non-AMOLED screen, snappy S4) which unfortunately ain't available outside US :/
Hopefully Sony will release the GX pretty soon
Wait for the Sony Xperia GX - that phone are going to kick ass! Or buy an brand new silver coloured Xperia P

[Q] New phone - best quad core model

Hey, guys! I am owner of Xperia arc S (and developer of Jelly Sandwich, btw) and want to buy another phone in November. Of course I will still have arc S for development and other stuff, don't worry. I am thinking of one from these models: HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S III, LG Optimus 4x HD. Which one is the best? Please, recommend something! LG tempts with its low price, but I don't really like its interface - even stock based custom ROMs will have this look. From the other hand SGSIII has its awesome Amoled screen and great support via custom ROMs (One X also does). Do you have any suggestions? I will choose 100% from one od these three phones - even latest Sony phones won't have quad core CPU. And, please... Don't try to make me thing dual core has the same performance as quad core. I just want my future phone to have 4-core CPU.
BTW, I like SGS3's light interface so for example Android Revolution HD ROM would be suitable for me :3
Thanks in advance for suggestions!
Cheers,
Max
It'd have to be the s3, if only because of its popularity. I've been thinking of a new phone for about 6 months, I've tried the xperia s, one x, s3, galaxy nexus and the note 2. The xperiaS was ok, but not a huge improvement on my arc. One x seems faster at first compared to the s3, but after 3-4 days use it felt laggy whereas the s3 actually felt faster. They're both on the large side though. Nexus is good but display lets it down. Note2 is f***ing huge!
I'll probably get the s3 myself, mainly as Samsung have actually put a bit of thought into the ui.

HTC One X.
But why?
Because I like the HTC Sense UI. But thats not the only reason and I think that doesnt rly help you.
Pretty good performance,
customizeable
materials (doesnt cares you, i know)
Even the S3 has got better ways for customization (popular, more private developers..) i would choose one X anyways.

Being quite alot into design, few words from that point of view:
1. You are seriously qualifying Samsung UI as "good one"?
2. How could one go for such uninspiring (not to say ugly) and washed out design, after having sexy beast like arc S?
Bottom line. I would not go for quad-core untill Sony, or anyone else, release an originally designed, true quad-core killer. Also, these first quad-core "experiments" you mentioned as options, will probably be ridiculous by the time Sony release their quad-cores, and generally second generation of quad-cores. One more thing. Quad-cores will be there for long time for sure, and in half year from now (or a bit more), there's a big chance that you will have the weakest quad core phone, of all quad-cores.
Anyway, good luck with shopping.
I have news for you:

That's the main reason I haven't gone for any new phone yet, the fact that the s3 and oneX are basically the first generation of quad cores. Plus as someone said previously, the s3 is pretty bland looking. I chose my arc over an s2 mainly due to its looks and actually think it's still the best looking smartphone, alongside the lumia 900.
many quad core phones are on its way..wait till Christmas if you can and you will have many options

[Q] should I buy Sony Xperia Play?

hello,
im new to this forum. All i need to ask is that is this phone worth buying now? i would buy better phone but my price range is 200$ to 220$. and xperia play is 205$(20500 rs in my countty). It also very hard to find one. there is no phone in this range that has more than 512mb ram. but my friend says that it will be great mistake to buy this phone. Gta and modern combact are the game that make me think about this phone. i have used sony xperia s from my brother for sometime and touch screens are very bad for gamming specially for games like gta. please tell me should i buy?
Sorry for bad english or for wrong forum. i have registered fist time on forum.
Thanks
If you like gaming and you do not care about high end hardware go for the Xperia Play.
512mb ram is not a lot, but enough for the emulators I play.
I used the Xperia Z along with the Moga controller for a while now and I dislike the Moga sticks.
Dropped the Z and back to the Xperia Play now.
Sure the hardware was nice, but I prefer a proper Dpad and everything in 1 device instead of 2.
Offtopic: Xperia Play is made by Sony Ericsson, not by Sony.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Yes, this is what Iam trying to say.
You do not want to know for how many years I have used and enjoyed N-gage.
Swapped back and forth with that phone aswell, always to find out:
Iam a gamer I need physical buttons and like everything in 1 device.
As for the price, Iam not sure.
Think speaking in euro's 150 \ 175 would be reasonable for an brand new Xperia Play.
Kind regards, Stefan.
If you like emulating old games, then this phone is perfect!
I wouldn't advise you to buy this phone, due to the fact that it isn't strong enough to play new games with.. I bought mine 6 months ago, and am experiencing many difficulties with actually just making a phonecall.
Overall, I really love the idea of the Xperia Play but unfortunately the hardware is just not that good.

hahaha epic reply..sorry to be off topic just an epic reply! ahahaha.. now back to topic for that price range yes 512 yes but no other phone in the market has the goodness of the built in sony gamepad. we are talking about countless hours of GBA,PS1,NES all the classic games that we love on those consoles fitting unto a single android device.. better graphics does not usually produce great games.
thanks. i have made my decision to buy xperia play.. as all the phone in this range have 512mb ram so all perforamce will be almost same. Thats why im going to buy xperia play tomarow. if i find one in market

Hello, I'm using xperia play almost for year and if u like gaming u should buy it i know it's not high end device but it's pretty much optimized, stock rom without oc and other things has got bigger antutu score than htc evo 3D
Htc evo has 2xcore 1,4 i think and 1gb ram(i think)
Xperia play has one core with 1GHz, 512MB RAM and has bigger score and that says something

MOTOROLA DEFY 2

Deviantart user nik255 imagined the way a fresh Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Motorola phone would look like. The result is an IP67 rated smartphone with a Snapdragon 800 CPU 2.3GHz per core and 3 GB of RAM.The phone features a rectangular format, but there’s something about it that makes me think of the Nexus 7 2 and its recently leaked pictures. The Key Lime Pie UI is also more toned down and minimalistic, a clear inspiration from iOS 7.0. As far as the phone rendered here is concerned, the Motorola Defy 2 is an IP67 handset with a 4 inch HD display and a 3000 mAh replaceable battery. It comes with a micro HDMI port, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE, NFC and a front 3 megapixel camera. There’s a 10 megapixel Clear-Pixel cam at the back with Xenon and LED flash, plus 8/16/32 GB of storage. We’ve also got a microSDXC slot for storage extension
special features
Quad-core 2.3 GHz
New USB 3.0 for ultra-fast transfers
802.11ac1 Wi-Fi for peak Wi-Fi performance + Integrated digital core
BT4.0 + Integrated digital core
New Quick Charge 2.0 integrated for up to 75% faster battery charging

Yeah, the text is copied, but the thread is misleading... I thought that I missed an announcement about DEFY2 from Motorola when I saw this thread, but it wasn't the case - this is just a fan made concept which means it has nothing to do with reality (and the reality is that DEFY 2 has never been even mentioned by Motorola)

If im not mistaken, when the Defy launched it was a mid range device not state of the art latest fastest cutting edge, just a competent android phone that was rugged, and well designed at the same time, as most other rugged phones at that time looked 'rugged'
As it is now things have moved on with devices such as the xperia Z, however the defy is still the only device that has these characteristics
Water resistant
replaceable battery
SD card slot
UK release.
Really cool concept Motorola really started this project long back but suddenly dropped making Defy Series.... if nt we should have been using Defy™HD with Jellybean.. Btw New Motorola phones build quality better than defy

It is a beautiful mock up! And well as far as my defy is concerned the build quality is brilliant, it's the stock software quality which pissess me off. It's just sad that a phone which is still up and kicking, going all guns blazing was left to wither away by the software dept at Google moto.
Any way, um ot!! What are your opinions about the moto x? Looks promising me thinks!!!!

The X is a great thing, but the Ultra series is a lot more interesting to me... I'm a fan of Motorola design and the new Ultra series devices are great representatives of that spirit The X, on the other hand, has a less interesting appearance to me, it's built for the masses, I guess...
Other than that, the hardware is very similar, so not much to say there

Moto X??
fro what i have heard....
Not rugged ( pictures show fully exposed headphone jack hole )
No Sd card, built in memory only (16GB/32GB)
Sealed in battery, having a spare battery is essential for my purposes as im often away from power and the battery often dies at the worst moment - nothing can beat putting a fresh battery in and being back to 100% in a few minutes
also heard on the rumour mill - only getting a USA/North American release initially due to the customisation options, with china set to follow later. ( ie USA/Canada/China)

For my taste, the Droid Mini would be perfect (http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=6977). But I fear that this phone will never hit European shores.

I agree, the Mini seems pretty perfect to me, too I also always wanted the RAZR i (or the M). But the same thing is bothering me, as well - will the Ultra's ever go outside Verizon If it doesn't and the X is USA/Canada only... What the hell is Moto's new world conquering strategy

Sony Xperia M5 And C5 Ultra Leak

Looks like the most reliable leak about the upgrade to Zultra with a very very thin bezel.
By the looks of it, it may be available pretty soon as well..
The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra has a huge 6-inch 1080p screen and a virtually non-existent side frame. This is just 0.8mm thin, this compares to a 2.2mm thin side frame in the Xperia C4 and 2.5mm thin frame in the Xperia T2 Ultra. These small bezels mean that that the Xperia C5 Ultra is barely much bigger than the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.
I dont know much about the processor but sounds disappointing - http://www.mediatek.com/en/products/mobile-communications/smartphone1/mt6752/
( Just opened a new thread since all the other news in the past were just speculations )
The XperiaC5 Ultra will probably get more attention than the M5. It's a big 6-inch phone with a 1080p LCD. The bezel on the left and right of the screen is just 0.8mm wide, which looks neat. Unfortunately, that's the most interesting thing about the design. It's otherwise a very typical Sony device. Inside you get 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and an octa-core MediaTek MT6752 chipset. It'll cost the equivalent of $350.

See ya Sony... Hello P8Max
I really hope that Sony DOESN'T label the C5 Ultra as a "successor" since it is a downgrade CPU wise while offering the same amount of RAM and storage as the existing model. As a lowend phablet, it is quite decent, though.
The Huawei P8 Max is interesting but the lack of developer support (root, ROM) hold me back. Buying a device with a modified 5.0.2 without any reported updates to 5.1.x and 5.2/M sounds like a bad idea even if it is a nice device in other aspects.
I have not tried the P8 Max but the P8 feels great from a quality standpoint. If Huawei would cooperate with XDA like Sony does, it would be a really great option.
Edit: I hope Sony will introduce a Z5 Tablet Compact with a Snapdragon 820. If they are unwilling to give us a new Ultra, then a Z5 TC would be great.
Hope Z5 Ultra had the same design

They are official now, if only C5 Ultra had better specs...
M5 looks good
I'm liking the M5, looks like it's a Z3+ without the firedragon in it. Probably what the Z3+ should have been.
I've shifted my size wants with regard to phones, went 3.7", 4.3", 4.6", 5.2", 5.5", 5.6", 5.2" and now I want a 5", just like M5
Apart from the Mediatek chip, the M5 ticks all the boxes. And given I don't game on phone the weaker GPU in the X10 isn't a factor. It seems far more efficient than the SD810.
I'd say Sony have canned the Z3+ production and tweaked slightly to make the M5.
I guess this means the Z5 will have an SD820 in it and possibly a 5.5" screen?
Sounds interesting, but disappointed with the M5 processor (mediatek's, right?)
Mediatek ain't a bad chip, I've had a MX4 and I rather liked it.

I dont it matters as long we have a lag free device.
Dont know if sony will be proactive with bootloader unlock and may be a playstore version

sd810 and perhaps 820 overheating, sd615 has problems too, at this time i think mediatek is safer
I just came from Russia (vacation) and found the M5 Aqua... Why didn't I buy it in Russia where it already got released :/. * waiting for release in Germany *
But sounds great. 2.0 GHz Processor, nice Camera and stuff. But what custom ROMs/kernels possibilities does this phone have?

At most a kernel like Tangerine thats all.
No CustomROM, modded Stock ROMs possible, root possible.
And yea, that's the end, really boring phone cos MediaTek has no opensource for External and Hardware
perfect

Maybe the team behind the stock firmware in Sony give us a hand in this case.
They know what are they facing if they changed the processor.
Havent read if its going to have the clean AOSP with sony apps (this would be the best scenario for us)
No unlocked bootloader, no availability in the US and western countries (i.e. no dev)
Why are we still having a dedicated forum on xda??

I certainly hope so. but still, no unlocked bootloader?
in a seriousness, this model attrracts me more than than z5 because of the price/performance, but I also like custom rom like cyanogenmod and an active community very much

MTK devices have not really received a proper way to unlock, but there are ways i guess.
M5 is really too expensive and not worth on my carrier, it's selling at $418 SGD on a Combo 2 Student Plan $38 per mo. I could top up $100 more and get a Z series phone so what's the point of getting this phone.
Other carriers offer at $200+ for the device on a $42 per mo plan and Z series cost about $400-$500. Guess i won't be getting M5, no open source code is even more a minus
No MTK Source = no custom ROM.
I think Sony is obligated under the GPL to release the sources?
Anyway, in a month or so the picture will be clear. I strolled across the M4 forums, and there's zero to none original development there. Hope M5 will have a better fate.
