Hey XDA, I've had the nexus now for probably 2 months and I love it, I'm running aokp m4 and Franco's m2. I haven't had and problems except for one. The problem is.. I can't send mms messages when wifi is enabled if I go out and I'm just on the carriers network it sends fine but when I'm at home with wifi as the main access point and the carriers network in the background I can send texts but cannot get or send mms

Any help on this?

thats wierd i noticed the same thing too yesterday, i am on AOKP b31
data and wifi and cell all work fine. when i want to send a mms it tells me that it isnt activated in my network!?!?!
Yeah its so weird, just to get this straight , wifi and the network are enabled at the same time so whenever I have to send a pic or something I have to disable wofi
. Shouldn't the carrier run in the background for things like mms and just take over?

This is my problem for almost a week. I can only send sms if i turn off my data package or if im conected to wifi. When im using my phone's data package (4G) i cant send sms. MMS works fine always. Problem is i cant be conected to wifi all the time or turnining off/on my data to use sms.
It happens on GB or ICS. I also returned to stock via odin and the problem is still there. I tested my sim on my other phone and everything works perfect. I can send sms no matter if my 4G shows on. But not in this phone. So it seems is not SIM related. I called tmobile and after endless steps and instructions i reboot my phone. It sent only 1 sms and second try failed...until now. I checked my Message Center number and its correct. When sms fails and i look into status it shows error code 1. Can somebody please help me???? I been using SEARCH...for a week....tried everythig i found Now...i need to ask for ur expertise.....thanks a lot in advance.

Hmmmmm i have no idea why this is lol. Have you tried using other sms apps like gosms and handcent?
For go sms you need to check the box that says your stock sms is uninstalled. Handcent uses their own service instead of stock's. Try those two out

Right now companies cant send sms while is connected to 4g ,
It is by nature that the modem to turn the 4g radio off , send the sms and turn it back up, u dont see it cuz it happends in a seconds. Or something like that

Hi guys,
I live on campus and we have wifi everywhere and so I have the 200mb option to save some pennies.
Can I disable mobile data somehow but leave MMS (MMS does not count towards tmobile data). It already racked up 60mb. That and it might save some battery too, who knows.
Are you saying if you turn off mobile data you lose MMS? I'm confused..
Settings-> Data usage-> untick Mobile Data

Yes, that's what happens, I don't know how to stop it, but it looses all mms capabilities when you loose mobile data.

If you are on stock ROM i think there is a way to use MMS over WiFi calling. But after a quick google, it seems like third party apps such as GOSMS and Handcent dont like MMS over WiFi calling. So just use the stock MMS app. Remember, this is only if you are on a stock ROM or TouchWiz ROM. AOSP ROMs do not work at all with WiFi calling (From what i remember)
There is no way to disable data and still receive MMS.

Yes there is. Google MMS over WiFi calling. Kinda wish it worked on AOSP
What do you mean by "Google MMS" ? The stock messenger? OP it seems like it should work unless you don't have wifi calling enabled?

Let me rephrase that: There is no way in stock android to receive MMS while data is off.
If you're rooted, download LBE Priacy Guard or Droidwall and disable and whitelist only the messenger

On stock ICS with the stock messaging app I was able to MMS myself to email and back with mobile data unchecked. I have wifi calling.

this seems like the only solution so far. Thanks
The only solution, even though not the best, would be to switch to an HTC phone.
The only phones I know that are able to receive MMS with Mobile Data off are HTC phones.
Otherwise no other phone I've used does it and stock Android doesn't do it either.

Sony Xperias can do it too. Data disables and they keep receiving and sending MMS.

Aokp and cm works fine for me. I had wifi off and was still able to send pictures.
But on a tw rom I must have data enabled to send and Download picture messages.

Dude just call T-Mobile and ask them to disable your internet data but leave your MMS open!! Works perfectly!
AT&T unfortunately doesn't do this, but T-Mobile sure does. I used to be on T-Mobile but switched 3 months ago and found out that I was screwed by AT&T since they won't disable internet.

Hi,
I am running ICS 4.0.4...using stock messaging or Go SMS.
Is there any way to fix the MMS over WiFi calling issue? It's awful. Even though group SMS works within Go SMS, it fails if I'm on WiFi calling, and my friends hate using GroupMe. Are there any APN settings I can change? a different MMS.apk app I can use?
I am rooted FYI.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Craig
Try Samsung's fix. Turn Wi-Fi on. Open gmail and send an email to yourself and attach a pic using the acct registered to for your phone. Once you get that, try sending an mms to yourself. You should get it fairly quickly.

Yes it's a permanent fix. 2nd level tech support at tmo told me about this a few months ago and its worked for me and my wife's phone several times when I've flashed a new Rom that mms over Wi-Fi hasn't worked.

I believe the issue with GOSMS themselves been testing out MMS over wifi, so far i found it works fine with the stock MMS app and Handcent SMS. Going to try some other apps and see if they work.
Seems i may go back to HandcentSMS until GOSMS fixes it.

Thats because it doesnt work. Thats why these devs made it work with the stock DEODEX version or any other custom roms.. I want to see a video from the person that has "achieve" this. Because all I get is when on WIFI, and I send a MMS, 4G comes on real quick to send it and receive it then it switches off.

Im the one who originally posted the Samsung fix several months ago. I have used it after MMS over wifi not working on several ROMS after initial flash, including my current ROM Beastmade (odexed).
Here is your requested video. I sent an MMS to myself, and you can see 4G never turns on. Only wifi uploads/downloads.
Here you go!
MMS only works over data! If on wifi calling it will switch over to data to send and if data is off it will not send.

That's incorrect! If you watch the video i posted 4g never turns on. Also, i just tried it after turning data off and it went thru. If you'd like a friendly $100 PayPal wager I'd be happy to post a video showing it

MMS not working
Hi, I received my device a few weeks ago, direct from T-Mobile as a replacement, and immediately used the motochopper method on my mac to gain root on my SIII with LTE. I am not running any custom roms. Yet I cannot send a MMS message. It just spins forever; trying to send. I have verified that my micro SIM card works properly and my device has the correct APN settings according to T-Mobile USA (I have tried both fast.t-mobile.com and epc.tmobile.com without any luck). I have uninstalled AdAway and turned off CPU Tuner, LBE Privacy Guard, and Lookout. The only other rooted apps I have installed are BusyBox, SuperSU, Greenify, AutoKiller Memory Optimizer, Mobile ODIN, ROM Manager, SystemHelper, Titanium Backup, Delayed Lock, and Voodoo OTA RootKeeper. Is there an app that can assess my configurations to determine what is causing the MMS failure? I do not believe the device is faulty. I tried using Go SMS Pro and Handcent SMS with out any luck as well. Thanks in advance!
I would start over. Back up your important data and factory reset (you wont lose root). I have a feeling it may have something to do with one or more of the apps you just listed, like LBE, auto killer, etc or possibly a combination of them. Start completely clean and test if you can send/receive normally. If so, install one app at a time testing each one.
If it continues w/o any apps installed, then call T-Mobile and ask them to reset your account. See if they have any ideas if that doesnt work. Id also replace the sim at a T-Mobile store. Theyll swap for free if yours could be faulty.
