Wifi tether won't work (paid feature and un-paid) - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Has anyone had trouble with wifi tethering working on their Galaxy SIII. There are sometimes where I have to have it working, so I paid for the feature from T-Mobile, so I could have usb and wifi. However, sometimes neither work, and right now, Wifi is not working. When attempting to connect to it from my laptop, it just says 'Waiting on Network,' and never connects. I have tried the Fox-Fi and Wifi Tether apps as well, but all have the same result. I wonder if it's a hardware problem. I don't won't to hard reset to see if it's a software problem.

Aye. Im having the same thing. I was told the tether plan comes with the unlimited data but my tether won't work. Good Luck mate. And if you paid for the bloody plan call up your service and get answers or stop paying. Don't waste yer money.

[q] 3g mobile hotspot

I am s-off, and rooted running that awesome GingerbreadSense ROM, and i thought just for kicks I'd try the stock mobile3G hotspot too see if it works, since it's my only means of accessing the internet from my laptop...and my jaw dropped because it works flawlessly and very faast....but my question is...am i paying out of the ass for tethering? or is it the loophole affect, or am ijust lucky?
Did you get any sort of verizon message about charging for the service? If not, you're fine. There's also other apps that you can use to tether (for free). The one that I've found that works best is called "wireless tether", you can google it and download it from the code.google page. Another good app is "barnacle wifi tether" and you should be able to get that one on the market.
Also, I'm not sure if you're new with verizon and on a tiered plan, but if so, watch out because tethering uses a lot of data. Nice thing about "wireless tether" is that it keeps a total of how much you've downloaded/uploaded during that tethering session.

[Q] Wifi Tether Question (Official App or Root App)

Hi Everyone -
I switched from the Evo 3D to this phone a couple of days ago and I really like it. I'm just about ready to root but I've seen some conflicting information on the wifi tethering and want to know what I'm getting in to before I root. Otherwise, I'll sell the phone.
On the Evo 3D, I was able to use the wifi tethering app and turn my phone into a hotspot, using infastructure mode, and using the 4G signal in my area. It worked perfectly, never had to give it a thought. The Sprint hotspot was "unlocked" but I used the wifi tether app because it was more convienent.
Now I'm seeing that this Epic Touch may or may not do what the Evo did. Specifically, I'm seeing that if I want infastructure, it's only going to work on 3G. I'm also seeing that IF it works with 4G, it's only in ad-hoc mode. My work computer will not allow a connection to ad hoc for whatever reason, so infastructure is my only chance.
So...is there ANY way to make this happen on the Epic Touch or do I need to sell this thing and buy another Evo 3D? I'm hoping someone can help. I don't care if it's an unlocked sprint app or the wifi tether app.
If I need to run a different rom to make this happen, cool, no problem. (I see that this LOS issue may be caused by certain roms, I need to figure out how to keep stock kernal.)
Someone please be my Yoda on this one and help me out. Just want the hotspot and yes, I'm too cheap to pay the $30 extra bucks to Sprint to go the "official"way.
thanks a lot!
Sorry as of now no

Unfortonetly, adhock mode is the only way at the moment...
Why is this phone so diifferent? Unlocking the native hotspot or making wifi tether work with the infastructure mode (in 4G) seems to be common on every other phone. What am I missing guys? Thanks.

From what I read around here, the guy that did the Sprint hotspot hack (Necroscan) doesn't have 4G in his area so his hack was never developed to work with it. I think people have talked about picking up the project but they've been unable to contact him to get permission. Something along those lines anyways.
Maybe turning off 3g would force 4g to work? I'm scared to root because of the los issues people are having. Maybe the new 1 click method will work, and if not... I can unroot. Sounds also like it's a matter of time before someone cracks this. I'm in for $20 if someone solves it.
I should clarify. I just want wifi tether to work with 4g. I don't care about the built in hotspot.

My wifi tether app (on a rooted device) works perfectly with 4G. Sometimes when I am on the go to study in a restaurant or something I use the wifi tether app to go online with 4G. It's fast!
in the meantime its not possible, yeah it sucks but only ad hoc mode is working.
There some new wifi tether beta that been coming out afther beta 6 try those

Wireless Tether Suddenly Stopped Working?

I use Wireless Tether all of the time, but today, it suddenly stopped working. My computer recognizes my phone, but when connected, it gets no internet connection. My phone has a solid 4G connection where I am now. Wonder what happened? Any fixes you guys could guess? I haven't changed ROMs, radios, kernels, etc. Nothing changed.
I am using this version of Wireless Tether I think: http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta11.apk&can=2&q
Thanks!
Edit: I tried uninstalling, rebooting, etc., and it still won't work!
The Nexus have integrated Wireless Hotspot app in the Settings. I think you have the Verizon due to 4G and needed to use a third party app so your career don't find out you were tethering since you aren't paying for the hotspot plan, which is against their policy I guess.
Now if you were using an international Nexus, which ATT and T-Mobile don't have the IMEI number in their database, things is a bit easier.
In any case, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling. Or if you don't mind USB cable tethering, try EasyTether.
If you're running a custom rom on Verizon, then the developer has most likely taken out the Verizon partitioning, to make the in house wireless tether seem as though the data being used up as if it's "Browser" or something.
The thing is, nothing on my phone has changed since yesterday. My dad's tethering on his Bionic has also stopped working. This has to be something with Verizon then right? Are they somehow blocking us?
have you tried Foxfi?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi&hl=en
be careful, once you get caught, they will make you sign up the hotspot plan.
Thanks for the replys guys. I actually had a static IP address on my laptop that was screwing things up. Wonder why that affects wireless tether but not a regular router?

foxfi/ Wifi Tether not working

I have a tmobile galaxy s3 on the monthly 4g plan. I cannot get wifi tethering to work.
I downloaded foxfi and turn hotspot on but my pc can never see the wifi network name so i can never connect to it.
I download wifi tether and set it to galaxy nexus cdma and turn on wifi tether. My pc sees it and i can connect to it. Everything works great..for about 10 mintues and then every site i go to i get redirected to tmobile page to activate and upgrade to tmobile mobile hotspot. I even tried changing my device to auto, galaxy nexus gsm, galaxy s2, but tethering starts with an error and doesnt work at all.
How are you guys getting this to work?
And when foxfi hotspot does showup on my pc i try and connect and enter the password i set but it just gives me an error, and says unable to connect.

There is another companion app to download with Foxfi that is supposed to help it not get detected as hotspot usage. Also free. Works fine on my Verizon SGS3. Maybe you should give it a try if you haven't already. Sounds like TMo knows what you are doing already. As for more bring seen byyour LC, I can't help you there. Shows up fine when referring my tablet

I had the same issue so I called 611. They told me that when I upgraded to S3, they removed the Hotspot feature and so he added it back. I think T-mobile is trying to fool users into buying if they don't know. Call the rep and explain that you had it before the S3 and would like to get it back.
Good luck!

Ah but I can't do that since I actually don't have it. I'm on a monthly 4G prepaid plan so I don't have it and can't even purchase it.

VIPER Rom Tethering Q&A Please

Ok i am having trouble with getting the right tethering app for this rom.I have been searching since the 26th for a tethering app that works right,I have used barnicle, easy tethering(works but not wireless),Wireless Tethering(Saids starting but also logs error)Im needing a wireless tethering app that will actually work like its suppose to because my phone is the only way i can use my internet and me and my wife normally use it on both of our laptops at the same time.Im not A verizon customer.I personally flashed my Dinc 2 to Cricket.I do have a tethering plan but since i flashed from 2.3.3 rom my wireless tethering doesnt work..Barnicle works sometimes but connection speed is 11mbs when stock tethering was running 54mbs...The app is really slow and then when me and my wife gets on from our laptops at the same time it acts like it kicks me or her off to run on just one laptop at a time...Can someone please help???Does anyone know how i can fix this or is there a app that im not finding that actually works like system 3g Hotspot???Thank yall
No network
I flashed this ROM last night and lost any network connection, not sure why, could connect over wifi, I'm hoping thee is a fix for the tethering because I use the phone for internet at work and use Barnacle, which has always worked flawlessly.
Barnacle works fine as far as I can tell. Using it now.
I'm using barnacle as well, but you only get ad-hoc mode. Has anyone had luck with wifi tether or opengarden or any of the other apps? I need to get on my work VPN, but it doesn't connect through ad-hoc, so barnacle is no good for that.
