Best current ICS rom? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Greeting from the t989 forums! No I'm no noob, yes I know it's mostly based on opinon. But I have been asked to flash my sister in laws phone tomorrow and I would like to set her up with the most stable and best battery life ics rom you guys have. If you could suggest a few to look at, that would be awesome. Thanks fellow gs2 owners.

Blu Kuban is a really good ROM.

You'll get different answers from everyone, many swear by blue kuban as the person above me. I had a bad experience on it. I'd check out AOSP ics, it's relatively new here but well developed. The jelly bean alphas are more stable than many of the ics roms to be honest
Swyped from a Galaxy S2 on CM10

I suggest AOSP ROMs.

For TW I think Blu Kuban and the goodness are pretty good. Definitely flash agats kernel if on TW. As for AOSP roms they didn't give me very good battery life but every phones different. Good luck.

cm9

Your correct, this is strictly a biased based answer.Shadows Gods latest build is giving great battery life.Worse part is you could find her something, flash it,and she not like it.Hope you reach you objective.

Try this. Its stock look but with speed and battery tweaks.

I'm going to recommend the blu kuban myself. I am so happy with it and ruj is quick to update and respond to any problems you might have.

Gonna suggest that you try them all and make your own decision.

The Blu Kuban; super smooth, sexy, reliable, solid dev support, rom updater, constant updates!!

Im going to say blazer rom. It is stable, battery is great, ics themed. I flashed ics roms and mijjz goodness and venum ics ROM were good. But I always return to blazer

This thread is NOT a good idea. Soon it will be an all out flame war. These threads never last.
Lets say this much....Everyone has a favorite rom....Just because one person likes it doesnt mean another will. I recommend flashing ALL the roms to get a feel for what you like. Each rom has something unique to it. All of our developers are great. Give each rom a flash

All roms have their ups and downs. I like cm9 the most.
blazer seems to be the most popular so far. Im kind of in between roms. been flashing a lot lately, but nothing has fit just right like blazer did a few months back.
i got a taste of the ics and i cant go back tho currently on calk 1.6 with kobridge 3.3 tweaks
Agree with ReActiveDisorder, each ROM is different and each user likes different things. Just try some and find what you will like.

Have to agree with Reactive here.
OP...... just flash away man. Thats half the the fun of all this. Try out all the ROMS you want. Find out which one u like the best and stick with it.
Read up on some threads and OP's. Find out what features each ROM offers and go from there.
Its really that simple. Everyone will have there OWN opinion on whats the best..... and thats just what it is. THERE opinion, not yours.
Flash away man and just find out what YOU like.
Good luck bro.

Yep...... and how you say you ''personally'' look for stability and battery just backs up what I'm getting at.
Everyone has there own likes and dislikes about what ROM they prefer. Thats one reason why these ''what's your favorite ROM and why'' threads never seem to work out.

Most stable ics rom.?

As title says. Its not my primary device so i want an opinion from someone current... Shes had a lot of problems with LOS... Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I957 using Tapatalk 2
Los is most likely caused by the modem. I suggest running the el29 modem with whatever ICS ROM you choose.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Ok but what about the latest stable rom.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I957 using Tapatalk 2
If you want rock solid stability I suggest running blazer 4.1, which is gingerbread. But if ICS is what you want, you could run stock ff18. In addition, all of the custom ROMs based on ff18 should be more or less the same in terms of stability. Choose whichever one you like.

You could give Blu Kuban a try.
Also, give different modems a try but make sure she always updates her PRL & Profile after every modem flash, then give it time to settle in. If that one doesn't get her speeds up, try another using the same method above. Sometimes you have to try the whole lot before you find what works best in your area. Again, update PRL & Profile after every modem flash, don't just give it a few minutes or hours to prove its worth, give it a day or so then flash another if that one doesn't do well.
Whats stable on here for one may not be for another. I use CM9 nightlies with no issues at all. Honestly if you want a rom for someone that does not care about flashing go GB throw a theme on it and let them enjoy life.
Anything else you will find yourself tinkering with it. although I am on the nightly from 6/21 and have not looked back.
I'm a big fan of tFF18. I find it stable and nimble. Easy to work with and good theming.

Same here. I've been following the AOKP builds from when they were first brought here up till now.
CM 9
EDIT: No matter what ICS rom you choose, be VERY careful to read, understand and follow the installation instructions. Otherwise, you're going to end up with a very expensive brick. Also, check your MD5s.
-----------
I've been using CM 9 since v.A5, and I'm quite pleased with it. I can't say I've had stability problems with it, but the setup process can be tricky.
You have to get a GPS lock and update your Profile / PRL either right before upgrading or using their multiboot rom option (which worked perfectly for me).
Also, you need to remember to install the google apps separately, but I believe all AOSP roms have a similar requirement.
However, once you've passed these initial hurdles, the ROM runs great. I have no complaints and use it as my daily driver. I use Maps, 4G, Netflix, a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and so on. My family teases me that whenever I'm not in front of a computer, I'm in front of my phone, so that should give you some insight on how thoroughly I use it.
Currently I have been using touch of sgsIII rom for about a week with no issues at all it has the voice talk and music player and messaging from the samsung galaxy s III and I am really liking the feel of this rom the only issue is that the sound effects are not working in the music player but I can personally deal with that til they find a fix other than that great work team rejects on this rom and I recommend it to anyone. But like said above one rom can work good for one and not another so give it a try and see how it works out for you.
Ok. Thanks for all your replies. I need to start downloading...

I have four roms I rotate between, restoring and updating as new releases come out. I have had nothing but great experiences with all these, sans the occasional burp. Once I had them set up the way I like, all have been trouble free. If I had to pick the high points of each I would say Agat's rom is the best all around with great speed and battery life. Venum Ice has an original color scheme and lots of bells and whistles. M'ICS feels very similar to Ice to me but has a Cyan color theme. Blu Kuban is like a different animal in that it has an updater built in that lets you change tons of visual and functional settings.
Agat's tFF18 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721065
Venum Ice http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538848
M'ICS (currently my daily driver) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740101
Blu Kuban http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625535
Let me leave you with this... If I had to pick one of these and never flash again, my choice would prolly change any day you asked me. All are rock solid and well supported by great devs that are very active and responsive to their base. I can honestly say you can't go wrong with any of these.
Hi guys im new here, im reading a lot theses 2 days and just wanna ask is there any port of s3? Or a ROM with S3 apps?
Also thoose Venum Roms has stock theme biilt in? Becuase im more of a rom stock theme guy LOL

I'm using Darkside Evolution 3 v7 ICS rom and it works flawlessly. Best ICS rom I've ever used.

Ah dissenting opinions! So there is no de facto rom?
That's like asking what the best car is. Its subjective.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Let the flashing begin...
Personally, I've stuck with Darkside Evolution 3 (v7) since its release. Although it looks very stock, it's very stable with an amazing kernel and battery life.
AOKP and cm9 are amazing (I'll be flashing cm9 again once we get our release candidate).
AOKP feels like cm based ROM with a little more to offer but with that being said, neither feel as stable as a stock based ROM for our phones at the present time.
You'll always get a biased opinion so I'd suggest flashing some of the more popular roms by checking each thread and good luck buddy!

I've been wondering the same. Reading through the forums, I determined Darkside Evolution 3 (v7) was the most popular. It took a few flashes before I was able to get it working right on my phone, but it runs similar to stock. The only way you'll be able to tell if you like it is if you give it a try.
aokp..... more tweaks.... less bloats, stable, fast.

I'm gonna say AOKP. I've tried all of the aforementioned ROMs and I have settled on AOKP because of the amazing battery life, customization and the AOSP theme it comes with. AOKP has also become very stable as of recently, rivaling the stability of Darkside. I used to run Darkside when it first came out, but now I can't get over the very stock feel/look. If you enjoy the tweaking, I would suggest AOKP. If not, then go with Darkside. If you want something in the middle, go with CM.
+1 on AOKP and link is in the sig. Darkside is also a great ROM just depends on your preference of touchwiz or stock. Both are the top ROMs imo.
Either AOKP or anything DARKSIDE.

I find it funny anytime I see one of these threads and find it even funnier when I see how many people answer. Its probably easier to say what not to use....LOL
Lets be honest thousands of people use this forum and if only 20 actually answer this thread I am quite sure all of the dozen or so roms will be mentioned... This question is like mentioned earlier is subjective and no way can you find a definitive answer in here....
I hate stock but there are some advantages to it, I love CM9 but also enjoy some of the tweaks of AOKP... I just load them all up get them to how I like it and nandroid them all... Problem solved
OP good luck but instead of reading our crazy posts get to flashing
AOKP
I am on AOKP Milestone 6. Was gonna try Darkside, but liked aokp and dont see any reason to switch.
There are few things that will not work with AOKP.
1) WIFI calling
2) Audio out via the car dock.
If those are not issues, try it out.

best rom that can pass the wife test

Had a gs2 but have since moved on. Need to find something for the wife though, hence the wife test. Best as I can tell the top TW Rom looks to be evolution v8. How are the cm10/AOKP Roms shaping up? Mind you I'd rather be able to flash as little as possible. Anyone offering some insight to the best stability would be very much appreciated.

I'm assuming that ur wife would be much like my wife. Lots of texting, some talking, internet stuff here and there.
Looks shouldn't be a priority but rather battery life. I would go with either infamous rom, darkside, or Jedi mind trick. I have flashed all of them and have enjoyed them all.
If its all looks to her, check out the CM 9/10 roms.
But then again... when is a wife ever satisfied.

Everyone's opinions are going to vary as for which is better and how well it performs.. Basically cruise through the forums.. (development side) Look at a few, read some of the post.. Flash and giver a go! Your experiance with a rom may not be the same as another persons. Everyone uses the phone differently. So that's the best way to go. Just remember JB are under development (although there are some very stable/suitable DD's out there). Enjoy!
For ICS I like Blue Kuban or The Universe
For JB I use Phantom Phreakz CM10
Hope this helps!
ICS there are 2 that I really like 1 the Goodness 2 the Blu Kuban. JB there is one I tried and like its ParanoidAndroid. All amazing and have great support in their threads
