Flashed to Stock ICS, but..... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys, so i just received my Gnexus only a couple of days ago. As soon as i received it i unlocked/rooted and flashed JB 4.1.1 rom.
All well and good, didn't realise till later in the day that a part of the phone was D.O.A
So now i have to send it back and get it fixed/replaced.
I followed the guide to restoring Stock ICS rom for GSM.
All well and good, it restored it to IMM76D, then OTA update to IMM76l. Now when i click on system updates it saying i can Update OTA to Jellybean.
However.... My Gnexus i-9250 GSM came with IMM76K and a Jellybean OTA update was not available.
If i keep the IMM76l on there, do you think they would notice/would that void my warranty (seeing as it came with IMM76K)?
Or is there someway i could flash IMM76K on my GSM device? The one listed on google developers images is for the LTE/Verizon
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Just flash JB on it and lock the bootloader... problem solved

They won't care about the version. Just kick the bootloader and you're good to go
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz

Thanks for the reply, it came with 4.0.4(IMM76K) ICS. I'm just going to leave 4.0.4 (IMM76L) on it and relock.
Do you think it will be fine/they would knock me back for that?
EDIT: okay thanks alot for the replies! will just leave it and lock bootloader.

Installing CWM recovery breaks OTA updates? I could swear I got the volume fix after I did this, but I might be mistaken. The update screen acts as though it is successfully checking for updates, but showing me up to date.
if you dont want to wait just get the rom from here http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html
and flash with fastboot you can do it with out wiping the phone
If your phone is yakju and you have an unlocked bootloader you can just manually apply the update yourself. That's what I did and it works great. Here's a step by step: http://www.androidcentral.com/how-manually-update-your-gsm-galaxy-nexus-android-402-ota
Also having root or an unlocked bootloader won't stop you from getting OTA updates. You will lose root if you update OTA but the bootloader will remain unlocked until you lock it again yourself. Some custom roms have OTA's turned off but if you're still stock, you'll get the update if you wait. Give them some time, they're pushing this to all the Gal Nex phones plus 4.0.3 to the Nexus S. That's a lot of data floating around out there.

I'm pretty sure installing CWM doesn't break OTAs because the OTA would just write over the custom recovery. That's happened to me before on my Nexus S when I had it rooted with CWM recovery. After receiving an OTA it overwrote everything and I just chose to keep it that way.

take a look at the build.
the "old" one should be ICL53F but I don't think that there is a new one or an old one.
I think that every 4.0.2 will be the same ICL53F.
I hope that someone who received the 4.0.2 today can confirm that he received the ICL53F.
I did a complete factory fastboot restore of 4.0.1 today and got the OTA 4.0.2 delivered a few minutes later, so I guess I have it. How do I test USB host feature? And it is ICL53F

I still don't understand they're not releasing 4.0.3. Many times better than 4.0.2 with great battery life, amazing performance and not a single reboot! My Nexus felt laggy and unstable before 4.0.3...

It is because you have CWM installed, not because your bootloader is unlocked. But it doesn't really matter. Look for a thread in the general section started by me that gives you a step-by-step on how to install an OTA with CWM.

[Q] Updates on the GNex

Hey guys, great forum! Grateful for all the support we have here. I have a question that I hop can be answered it has to do with updates for the GNex.
So basically, I bought the Nexus with Rogers in Canada and its a great device. I went to go and check the version and it was still on 4.0.1. I rooted it and then unrooted for personal reasons, the unroot brought me to 4.0.2 because thats the file that the unrooting program had, the phone is completely stock, bootloader locked.
After this, I heard about Yakju and Yakjuux and that Yakju gets updates from Google while Yakjuux gets them from Samsung. So I proceeded to check which one mine was, I used an app called GN Official Update and it told me I am Yakju.
So why am I not getting any updates past 4.0.2? Is it because the unroot process brought me to 4.0.2? Is it because those updates have been pulled for now? I dont think me being with rogers would have an effect but if it does please tell me!
If it helps: Baseband is I9250
Kernel is stock 3.0.0-gaaa2611
[email protected]#1 and the
build is ICL53F
Thanks for any help guys!
4.0.2 is the current official update out now.

Oh ok, so one more question, then how come when I was on 4.0.1 I never got an update? is that because when i rooted/unlocked bootloader and unrooted thus bringing me to 4.0.2 it somehow brought me to Jakju? I dont get it!
If you're relying on OTAs, 4.0.2 is the latest available.

How long did you have the phone before you rooted it to 4.0.2? Also, it's very possible when you flashed 4.0.2 you switched to yakju I believe. Either way, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Normally when there is a new OTA update, you can find it posted here before it rolls out to your phone.

Just to clear something up, I rooted while on 4.0.1. I unrooted and the file that was there for unrooting was 4.0.2 (wugfresh's tookit). So It WAS possible that when that file was flashed to go back to stock, It changed the updates from Yakjuux(Samsung) to Jakju(GOOGLE) ?

A few points:
1) No one knows for sure who updates any of the non-yakju builds, whether yakjuux, or whatever else. And if anyone (including that app you were referring to that you used, which is not "official" by the way) tells you otherwise they are just speculating. All we know is that OTA updates for ALL builds come from Google's servers.
2) Rooting has NO impact whatsoever on you receiving or not receiving the OTA update.
3) The reason you went from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 is because you were running yakjuux 4.0.1 (which ONLY RECENTLY received the OTA update to 4.0.2, and not all yakjuux devices have been updated yet), and when you "unrooted", you didn't really "unroot" your yakjuux 4.0.1 build. That toolkit just flashed the yakju version of 4.0.2 over your yakjuux 4.0.1 build.
4) It is yakju, not jukju
5) This thread should have been posted in the Q&A subforum, not General.
6) The latest official build for yakju is ICL53F (4.0.2). 4.0.3 is available via AOSP.

[Q] 4.0.4 questions

I just bought the phone yesterday from Verizon. It's all stock. I'm running 4.0.2, but I was wondering if 4.0.4 is out for everyone? I haven't received any update about it on the phone. Checking for updates just says I'm up to date. Do I need to manually update it, or just wait for it to hit me? How long should I wait?
If I decide not to wait, I have to unlock and root my phone, correct? And then download and install 4.0.4 (IMM76I) "yakju" from Goggle's Nexus factory images page? or do I need "mysid IMM76K from ICL53F" for toro from the "Official Google OTA Update URLs" thread on these forums?
I'm just concerned because I ran into some battery issues already (phone was completely dead when I woke up this morning. was at 90% when I went to bed. About 7 or 8 hours) and I read 4.0.4 fixes some of the battery issues. I've also changed some settings to limit battery draining. I believe it's working.
Root and Unlock using GNex TOOLKIT V6.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
then install a custom rom should also fix your battery issue
4.0.2 its really buggy.. If you are rooted and unlocked try some custom rom?
Stock 4.0.4 has loads of improvement, great battery, great performance, camera quality fix, etc..
If you want stock image, download from Google official site and flash it via fastboot, and then reroot

No, I'm not rooted or anything at all. I planned to root later when I got use the phone. I'm pretty new to this root stuff, but want to explore it. I've already been doing lots of research.
But it seems the vote is to go ahead and unlock, root, get 4.0.4 and get a custom rom/kernel. lol Instead of waiting to get the 4.0.4 through Verizon, I should get it myself manually. I was wondering if I should just wait or not.
Is yakju the version I want or toro?

Thank you! I just have another question before I decide to flash 4.0.4 to my device.
4.0.4 was pulled from google servers, but is available at Random Phantasmagoria. Though, RP says it's not recommended to flash the 4.0.4 IMM76K update. Would you agree? I haven't seen anyone say that version has given problems with all the reading I've done, so I imagine it's fine. Just double checking. I think most people have to be on 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 to get certain kernels and such to work.

I don't think you'll have any problems as long as you download the right firmware for your model. Don't flash the GSM firmware on a cdma phone.

I agree with what Azlan96 posted. I received the 4.0.4 update last week and to add insult to injury, when you look at the Kernal Version in the Settings/About phone screen, it shows that the kernel was available in MARCH! Why did it take so long for Samsung to get it to us?!
I like others purchased this phone off of a dailysteals sale earlier in the year and also have a yakjuxw device. I couldn't stomach the fact that we have Google's flagship phone, but are kept under hostage by Samsung. Yesterday I unlocked the bootloader using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit by following the steps in this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310) and flashed the stock yakju image.
I'm a n00b at this stuff but Mark Skippen did an excellent job creating that toolkit and making it easy for anyone to do it. I had the bootloader unlocked in 20 minutes (the majority of the time is downloading the image files) and received the 4.1.1 OTA once I logged back into my google account.
My device is now converted to the google yakju version and on jelly bean. I also have the peace of mind that future updates will be coming from google, and not Samsung.
I also converted to yakju from yakjuxw here on my australian galaxy nexus ,best decision I ever made an now i'm on official 4.1.1 jellybean an will always get updates as soon as google releases them, its as easy as unlocking boot loader an flashing stock yakju.Don't listen to stupid carriers like vodafone telling you bs excuses as to why you have to wait for updates because they don't have a clue, their customer support don't know the first thing about android an how it works.

Converting your phone will certainly wipe ALL your device (including internal memory), so make a backup. You only need how to enter fastboot mode (turn it on while pressing Vol up + Vol Down). Follow these steps:
1. Dowload the toolkit that's in sticky in the Android Dev section. Install the drivers there (option 1).
2. Unlock the bootloader. (option 3 I believe).
3. Enter the section to download factory google images. Download YAKJU or TAKJU 4.0.4 (the latter if you want google wallet).
4. Flash that image you downloaded.
5. Reboot and wait for OTA.
If you don't want to wait, you can download the OTA zip file, place it in the internal memory and use the toolkit to boot in CWM and flash it from there.
Cheers!

Please HELP ME
Hi,
My buildinfos reports that my phone is yakjuxw / maguro: 4.0.4 / IMM76K.
According to the options available in the GN toolkit, my phone's build (IMM76K) is in the section CDMA / LTE (MYSID / TORO). How is this possible, my buildinfos reports that the hardware is a maguro, but my phone build's is in the "mysid section" (GN toolkit)?
I do not know what to do. I want to upgrade my phone to YAKJU, but YAKJU is in "section GSM (maguro)" and my phone's build is CDMA / LTE (mysid).
Can anyone help me?
