3800mah battery cycle? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys, i got the 3800mah siedio, and its lasting 4hr screen time, but i heard it can take 5-10cycles to get the best usage. I have charged it 5times, but is a cycle like using it all day? I used it only to 50% and then charged it for the last 5days, and still only 4hr screen time. Should i return it and try a hyperion or keep it and keep charging? Is a cycle considered 0-100%? or, not sure what to do. On Bamf JB rom 50Screen, 3g, no wifi, gps, or bt

Only 4 hrs?

only 4hours yes, not sure what to do, no apps are killing it, idk if its apex or something else. Umm, could it be defective? or, on like 4hr screen time, 14hr standby, my battery was dead,
any idea? was hoping for 8hr screen time or more

on 3g or wifi?

I get close 3:45 on wifi and 3 hours on 3g on my stock 1750 mAh battery. Your battery must be defective, even accounting for the fake mah written on the battery

yea on 3g, i will call em and ask, prolly defective, i can just order a replacement from amazon tho, think i should, or siedio?

amazon request an rma from them

i doubt itll make any diff nowq but drain it to zero the charge for 8 hrs and try again

Does this extended battery have NFC?

Nice!
Thanks

if you buy it, post how long ur phone lasts on it

I have a Hyperion and a qcell 3800. It really depends on the ROM for me... I'm running CM10 nightlies and sometimes I get the same "screen" consumption and my battery is dead in 2-5 hours. When I was on the stock ICS rom it seemed to last a lot longer. Perhaps it is just something that needs to be worked out with these roms?
Could you try running something like go power management to see if it lasts longer?

Just bought a 2000mah Batt OEM

can you post the link for stock ICS rom for galaxy nexus vzw plz

well i got a replacement battery and a nexus replacement, and no improvement. On 3g still only recieving about 4hrs of battery life. I tried stock ics, bamf jb, and liquid smooth ics with franco and trinity kernel, no luck. I am debating of selling the phone, or exchanging the siedio for a hyperion. I really want atleast 5-6 hrs of screen time on it. What is weird is, I was using IM+ and even without it, battery drains the same, but it mostly drains quicker when browsing. I should be able to get 5-6hrs of browsing on 3g i would think. I am wondering if Google is checking for updates, for some reason, it has all my picasa pictures, can i disable all that, so only have gmail? maybe it is download stuff, idk but would stop eventually i would think. Really love the phone, but i got better battery on my 1750mah battery on my droid x, or even on a iphone. BTW, i always keep gps, bt, wifi, and 4g off. and 40% brightness.

How's battery life with your stock battery?
If anything I'd be willing to take it off your hands

I've got the same battery and it's killer. I'm running aokp JB with stock kernel and here's my battery life so far with it.

Hope this helps - just wanted to show that the battery *could* be defective.

Horrible battery life with their "extended" battery

I call it "extende" battery because it's 250maH more than the stock, big whoop.
I have maybe 10-15 calls per day. I unplug at 10am and by 4-5PM I am at 14% battery. There is NOTHING running. I even switched to CDMA only from LTE/CDMA and it didn't help much.
Any recommendations? I am about to return it. My HTC Thunderbolt which has the WORST battery life of ANY phone lasts me through the day and that's with Facebook and other notification apps.
Wait for 4.03 and see if that helps. Otherwise, turn down screen brightness, turn off LTE, and get better reception. Also, charge it every chance you get.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I can't fix any reception issues. This has horrible reception compared to my Thunderbolt as well which itself was bad with reception.
I have it on 3G only and the screen is already turned down.
I mean no disrespect but if the only option is to wait for a "patch" to fix this I probably should return it.
I paid out of contract price for this phone. $649.99 + 8.1% sales tax.
Don't get me wrong. This phone is blazing fast compared to my Thunderbolt but in the end I may just exchange it for an iPhone 4S which has sucky battery life but I can get through 2-3 days on a single charge.
If you even have to think about getting an iPhone, this phone isn't for you.
Seriously, something is probably wrong with your device. I get no reception issues. Sounds like that is the brunt if your issues.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I would say return the 2100mAh battery at least but don't return the phone. LTE is a huge battery hog as is and with the size of this screen it isn't helping either. I'm anxiously awaiting either Mugen or Seidio to make a decent extended battery for it. There is a generic 'made in China' 3800mAh battery currently circulating around eBay pretty cheap, although I haven't tried it out myself yet.
How long have you been using the extended battery? You have to give it at least a week before making any decisions.
I've had the phone since Monday/Tuesday
You should first compare with the standard battery with the same usage pattern. If the standard battery gives you more time then there's a problem with your extended battery. If the standard battery gives you less time, then the extended battery is okay but you should look at your rom settings instead.

If you're using the phone lightly and losing 85% in 6 hours, then there is a hardware problem. Don't buy into the hype that an OS update is going to fix the problem, it probably won't. I have great battery life on my GN using 4.0.2. I think a lot of people have a hardware defected phone, and are in for a surprise when the OS update launches and doesn't fix the battery issues. The Galaxy S already got 4.0.3, and users are still reporting massive battery drain.
Carry a few batteries or a charger and enjoy.

I have found that the battery life I get with my extended battery is above and beyond anything I would have expected. Use WiFi if it is available for you at work or at home because it's typically faster (unless you have 4G signal and slow wifi) and uses much less power than typical cell radios.

Lol totally a reasonable way to keep your phone functional. Hey, just sew another pocket on your jeans just to hold cellphone batteries, no biggie.
I think battery life varies wildly depending on individual circumstances.
My area has stellar LTE reception, I keep the screen at 30% brightness, and I do light web browsing, RSS viewing, and podcast listening.
With the extended battery, I get anywhere from 9-12 hours before hitting 5% battery. Battery usage typically shows ~50% screen and ~20% Android OS.
Granted, battery life dips significantly when gaming or watching Netflix, which I always do at 100% brightness.

I have the extended battery, using Roman's ROM and I go to sleep at night with about 25% battery left. I make about 5 calls a day, lasting about 20 minutes each. I surf on the phone a LOT, but am always on wifi when surfing.
I have always found that finding the right ROM with the best battery life (sometimes using different kernals) is a necessity with smartphones.
This is ridiculous. Unplugged for 1 hour and now it's at 44%. Absolutely nothing running. I watched it drop from 46-44%

What is your screen on time? How many apps do you have installed? Are you running stock? Has the phone actually died?
Just because it says its that low doesn't even mean it's that low. Could be an error in reporting. I don't pay much attention to the percent... I go by when my phone actually dies.

Dont ask this.
Cm7 is set up to go to deep sleep after 10 seconds of the device beiing locked, 'normally' this is about 10 minutes, but battery life is the same, or its a bit less..
So thats only to not drain it even faster, and cm9 has this even more, maybe thats a reason why samsung doesnt give it to our gio's, it also has touchwiz, so battery life would be very very bad
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
Actually battery life on Gio is not always bad because of ROMs (but ROMs of course sometimes are the main reason for it).
It's battery problem, and to be more exact, capacity problem.Stock battery capacity is something about 1350 mAh,there are batteries from third party vendors that have 1850 or something like that,I'm going to buy one of these,if I will be able to find it in my city of course
Also tried the battery improval script from here.It works, for real. All day with wi-fi,3G,screen on 100% when viewing something, and had an hour of gameplay in Angry Birds.Battery right now still keeps working,15%.
Cm9 gives me garbage battery life. I charge it during the night, take it off at 7 AM. No 3g (only when i need it), a bit of wifi, moderate texting all day, no games, some music in the morning on the way to school, at 5pm its practically dead. I used to get 50h battery life stock, now i get 18 if im lucky.
Its worth the sacrifice though!!

Battery...hmm not bad

So I 've been wanting to really test how long my battery could go with minimal use.
This included...
about 45 minutes of 3G tethering
and about 13 hours on 3G. 4G was disabled the whole entire time
As you can see it was idle a lot, but I almost got 2 full days on stock battery. So no complaints.
Part of me feels like if it was not for that 3G tethering maybe I could have got 4 more hours+
Not bad indeed.
Would rather use my phone and have to charge when I get home then leave it in my pocket all day.
Also your wifi was toggled on the whole time... that would have saved some battery.

I've had an hour of screen time, and about 9 hours of screen off; I've not had it on to charge at all today, and I'm at 60% battery.
If you go into settings/battery, what else is keeping your phone awake? In other threads, people suggest installing 'Better Battery Stats' (nb, cheap, not free) and posting screen shots of the kernel/partial wakelocks. I can't interpret them myself, but others can...

The only complaint I have with this phone is the massive difference between hspa and lte versions in battery life. Other than the razr maxx no late phone has acceptable battery life including the nexus. To get 5-6.5 hours screen time on my nexus versus friends 2.5-3 on an lte version is just crummy. I know some people just have extra batteries but that short of usable battery life is just too much of a hassle for me when I'm out and about. I would be forced to get a huge ugly seidio battery if I needed to move to Verizon. Even with 4g disabled the Verizon/sprint versions don't get the screen time I get with my hspa nexus. I really hope lte radios get more efficient and battery tech gets better. Removable or not, all phones can be made as sleek with a huge battery if manufacturers wanted. The maxx is proof of that.

Sounds like something is wrong honestly. Did you do a factory reset after updating to ICS? Or did it come with ICS?
Something is definitely wrong if you're losing 30% charge sitting idle for two hours. When I had official ICS my phone wouldn't ever go to sleep and my my battery usage was terrible. No problems with Gingerbread, CM9, or CM10.

Hyperion battery, CM10, and Juice Defender make the phone worth having. I still carry a charger with me most everywhere I go, but at least I'm not frantically searching for a wall socket every 2 hours. The only down-side is that there are no cases for an extended battery; and as I found out, Zagg screen protectors most assuredly do not protect against drops.

If you're going to surf and all that, the battery will drain if you don't have the brightness down and possibly some way to throttle the CPU down. You are effectively using more energy than is being replenished.
It makes it about the same size as the phone with a stock battery inside the ballistic case without the silicon outside. But it's worth the money. Even on rooted GingerBread and the ICS leak I could still get right at a full day of moderate use from it.

I would agree something is causing a wake lock problem on your phone. Get better battery stats I think is free for being a forum member. It helped me find the offending app. In my case it was Whatsapp and more recently the update for power control widget. With AT&T official ICS I get 15 hours of light to medium use on the stock battery until I am at 50% and with the q-cell high caps city 15 hours of heavy use before it is at 50%. Under cm it was on about an hour longer before I hit 50%.

Also, if it's not getting a signal while in your locker, you will lose a lot of battery. I put my phone into airplane mode when I put it in my locker at work since it doesn't get signal in there. The other day I had it in my locker and forgot to put it in airplane mode, and I lost like 15% in 2 hours. I can put it in airplane mode and have it only drop 4% after like 6 hours.

I bought the Q-Cell battery after getting sick of charging the phone twice a day (with stock GB). After updating to the official ICS my battery life dropped to MAYBE 18 hours with the extended. After a week of this I finally read about having to do a factory reset. IMMEDIATELY after doing the reset, I began to have serious battery issues with the Q-Cell. Phone would not charge up past 57% no matter how long it would charge. If the charger was unplugged, the phone immediately shut off. If the phone was off and you plugged it in, it turned on. Took me almost two weeks before I was back home where the original stock battery is/was. Popped it back in and the phone seems to be back to normal.
I find it bizarrely coincidental that at the exact moment I did the factory reset the battery begins malfunctioning. So, I don't know if something in the ICS code keeps it from playing nice with extended batteries in general, or the Q-Cell specifically, or the Android gods decided to smite me down for no reason whatsoever.
Now to see if the reset fixed the battery drain issues or if my stock LG battery drains completely in around 3 hours. :silly:
But back to the original question, the Q-Cell gave me two full days with moderately heavy usage. But beware doing a factory reset with it installed, JUST IN CASE.

[Q] [q] Is this what a dying battery looks like?

I noticed when I was looking at battery stats (trying to figure out what's eating the battery; very little in the way of apps installed)
I bought the phone last week, but I bought it used on eBay. It came with the original box and the manufacture date is 6/30/12, so I figure this was someone's everyday device for 10 months.
The reason I ask is that sudden dip from 20 to 30%. And the other reason I ask is that I only get about 10 hours with 3 hours of screen-on time on a full charge. If the battery is just losing capacity, that's fine - I'll get a ZeroLemon 2300maH battery and I should get much better life. If the battery still has close to full capacity, then I'll get an extended-capacity battery. I just need some guidance as to whether or not it's crapping out so I have a better idea of what to buy.
Thanks!
Jump is weird. Could be the battery is flaky. But I would make effort to reseat it. I want to see what BetterBatteryStats says about that terrible wakelocking, though.
You can delete batterystats.bin from /data/system. Everyone says it does nothing. But I do it anyway. Because I can.
My stock battery usually gives me 7-8hrs of standby and 3hrs of screen time.
Zerolemon 2300mah gives me 20hrs of standby and usually 5hrs of screen time.
You can check in the accessories section in the zerolemon 2300mah that I've posted some of my results via screenshots.
About the dip, I'm not sure I've never noticed that on any of my batteries.

Jump has been there consistently. Had the phone 4 days, and every day when it hits 30% it drops to 20%.
Installed Betterbatterystats and I'll see what's keeping it awake. It does seem to be awake an awful lot compared to my old Atrix (switched to T-Mobile a month or so ago, and just got the phone after I was switched for a bit), which got way better battery life.
10 hours with 3 hours of on screen time is just about average for the stock battery.
I would recommended getting the zero lemon 2300 mAh slim batteries if you're lucky enough to place an order for them. They only restock in small amounts and they disappear quick.

Well that's good to know. They're in stock right now on Amazon so I'll pick up the 2-pack with the charger.
OK so far the phone has spent half its time unplugged staying awake, and about half of that is being caused by DeskSMS. I got a trial a long time back and decided not to bother because I didn't use it, and when my google account restored to the phone, it apparently got installed and I didn't notice. I've uninstalled that and we'll see what else happens. Very thankful for the BetterBatteryStats suggestion; I'd never heard of it.
Well the battery is lithium ion. With repeated charging the battery loses capacity. If the battery is the one that came with the phone, buy a new stock one for cheap off Amazon. That is if you use NFC and have a certain fitted case. If not, go for an extended battery by reviews on Amazon and XDA. My battery is from December and I haven't noticed any decrease yet. The temperature of which your phone runs and the temperature of the environment also effect battery life.

Great news, everyone. Desk Sms was the culprit all along. This is 3 hours of Netflix and then sleep over night. Just a couple wake locks that I can attribute to emails received overnight.
So out turns out the battery other than the weird drop, at least with the power saver on.
Thanks in particular for the Better Battery Stats suggestion. Without it I would have been majorly confused.

Glad you were able to get it all figured out. Wakelocks are VERY annoying. Search for kms.apk if Mediaserver is ever draining your battery in the future, it is a common battery draining problem as well.
If you're on TouchWiz using Power Saver, I'd recommend disabling it. It throttles your CPU in half. This may cause instability, or overheating problems or sometimes even battery drain ironically. I do however recommend, KT747 kernel with changing govs, and I/O scheduler and using Team Kernelizer tweaks. Try Eugene's CPUSleeper and it may help put DeskSMS to sleep for good. And how could I forget? Definitely try Greenify. It makes apps behave akin to iOS devices. Best of luck.

The problem with Greenify, in this case, is you can't hibernate apps that send notifications, or you will never get them.
The power saver doesn't bother me. Being in the notification area makes it easy to toggle and performance has been fine. Better Battery Stats says it gets up to 1 GHz Mac and that is plenty on the web or Facebook or Netflix.
I had assumed the media server popping up was due to Netflix streaming. It hasn't been back today since recharging. If it comes back I'll look more at disabling. Today battery life has been great. 12 hours with 2 hours of on time and at 45 percent. I definitely over reacted to the drop and it must have been Desk SMS which never should have been installed.

If anyone has any issue with their battery sprint corp stores have a tester takes about ten min. They won't have a problem doing it if you're nice, sprint or not. It will either end up excellent marginal or poor... they don't charge for the test.
