Hi - wifey has an Xperia Arc S (unbranded UK). Its still running gingerbread .... is this right ? Checking for updates says that its on the latest version but I keep hearing that Arc S users are on 4.0.3 and even 4.0.4.
She is on 1254-1957.
She wont let me flash any custom ROMs
Don't know way
But you can use flashtool to flash stock rom too

My wife is the same she won't let me near her phone... In her words,I am always needing to restore backups why? Because of some mod update etc.
As regard your main question it could be because of the phone carrier, not releasing an update.
I have t-mobile arc and they haven't updated to ics according to pc companion always shows I have latest software, but flashtools will upgrade if you can convince her to let you.

Flashtool is an software mainly made for the xperia x10 but works (i think) on all xperia 2011 devices. Makes my life much easier
You can read about it here: http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
It's made by two guys from xda.
Also, if you need any help using it i will help you to get started

Hi everyone, i just bought a Xperia Arc and its currently running Android 2.3.2
My questions are:
1 - Which is the latest version update for Xperia Arc ?
2 - I tried to look for an update using the "Sony Ericson PC Companion" but it says that there is no avaible update. Why is it happening?
3 - The fact that my carrier is "VIVO" (From Brasil) means i can´t update my Phone?
4 - Is there any "Safe" (I know every way may brick your phone,i´ve flashed tons of custom roms on galaxy phones) way to update it to the latest version (or at least to 2.3.3 where i´ve seen some cool features) without breaking my 3G connection with my carrier ?
5 - I Know ICS is going to be released for our phones, but, will the update be Global or Carrier-by-Carrier like ?
Thanks in advance for any help/answers.
I will stay tuned here !
Flash with flash tool.
Debrand it with generic 2.3.4

Can i flash a "Global" Rom that works in every country, with every carrier ?
That would solve my issue,if theres any 2.3.4 (Which i found to be the latest version) rom (STOCK ROM,not CUSTOM) that i can flash safely.
Waiting for answers.
Where are you developers ?
Read the stickys.
Search for flashtool and read how to use it.
Then search for 2.3.4 generic world and flash it with tool above.

Last one,do you mind linking me a "how to" guide so i can follow it?
I´ve found this on on Youtube, but im not sure if its the same step-by-step: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmmThXTWu74
Also,Flashing this global rom, will prevent some apps from SE like TrackID to work or whatever ?
I´ve read it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650
Look in general and devs section, there are tutorials.
Im on phone so i cant copy/paste link to it.
Someone will give you link,or ask flo95 for it.

I wanna say that you would need an ICS kernel , which you would need to unlock your BL for.. and the system on your phone wont matter, since ICS isn't official on our plays your will need to instal a custom Rom which will overwrite everything anyway
Thanks

Well I did some reading and I think you will need an unlocked BL and at least be on the .42 firmware, 2.3.4 like you originally posted. I know there are a few ICS roms that work in the developer section. But I think for the official beta release your gonna wanna follow what Sony said.
Edit: looks like you have to fastboot a boot.img and userdata.img and system.img

You'll be able to get ICS without an unlocked bootloader once the official update is released, since the official releases can be made into files for flashtool.
Aside from the fact it'll be done through SEUS.

Apparently, a new firmware was just certified in PTCRB.
Does anyone have any info on this?
Wow, more updates!
Does anyone know what is the update for?

hope this one will be as smooth as GB.
hmmm looking forward to see what new features fixes does it have. hopefully it is not a regional framework only.
looks like it is a carrier/region specific update..btw one update for arc s is on its way..
It,s the same 4.0.4 but for a carrier in the UK
I'm not have update ?
I believe it's the 4.0.4 ICS UK update for 3.
At least that's what was reported by one of our other members.
Sorry if that dashed your hopes. LOL!
How will this work as I am on 3 and my Phone has officially updated to 4.0.4

My phone is branded to `3` and to concur with xtacy above , it recently updated to this firmware .
Hmm. Does this only occur on unrooted? I am on 3 and it just says I have the latest software if I check in PC Companion?
did u flash an ftf to update ur phone or get it through update official ?

I used PC Companion to flash then ran Doomlord root bat file. I take it I won't get any official update unless I remove root (probably have to do repair to do that though right?).
I have a notification saying FW 4.1.B.0.431 Is now available. Anyone know what it is? Don't want to update if it's just a few fixes for 4.0.3.

Didn't Rogers just say they would release ICS for the arc and arc s in early September?
This is actually really confusing. Rogers and Sony Canada have two different dates for ICS; idk who's right and who's wrong.
Then again, I just flashed the generic NA firmware when it came out.

ICS is out for Rogers, just updated and re-rooted mine.
Going to check out the stock experience before flashing something stock based without the bloatware.

Release for Rogers Xperia ARC is .587 (hearing that this seems to be the build they are using for all the xperia 2011 devices they offered). I successfully rooted mine using the method on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957, followed post 3.
The upgrade left me pretty short for internal storage (as in updates that attempted to go through upon reboot failed due to there being 5 mb of space left). Had to do some space shuffling with Titanium. After (re)ripping out the Rogers ware, pushing the unused sony aps onto SD and integrating Davlik and updates into ROM I had a wopping 83MB of internal space.
If I decide to flash something onto it on my days off next week I'll see about posting up a clean image.
Cheers,
Does anyone have an .ftf?

Let me explain my question. When I got my Xperia Arc S, it was already loaded with .62 firmware. I later upgraded it to ICS, but downgraded since ICS makes phone a second class device. Since I dont have experiences with other older gingerbread rom (version .42 and older) and since i found in some threads, that battery life was better in older versions of gingerbread I have this question for you.
So, which one of the gingerbread versions for Xperia Arc S was the best in terms of battery life, speed, maybe UI design. Which one would you recommend (for those, who had a phone since starting version) and to which one it is still safe to downgrade. Or is this simply the latest GB version 4.0.2.A.0.62?
Thanks for all the answers.
Most of the custom ones work okay, try xgamer, it's one of the most popular. Based on my experience it's quite good, stable, fast and batterylife is great

Question for Destroyedbeauty:
Is there any noticable difference between .62 or .69 firmware? And how to root .69 firmware, since I can't do an OTA to this version, .62 is the latest for me?

.69 is not needed, it is only for Germany, includes only small name change (Gmail to Google Mail) due to legal issues, nothing else.
So .62 is the latest and suits just perfect for me.
Stood on .62, moved some apps from /data/app to /system/app, still have about 130 mb free on internal.Found out Arc S does have some unused space in system partition. I enjoy my fast phone. Only thing bothering is proximity sensor crack, but I'll fix that since phone is still under warranty. Thanks for all the opinions!
