Anyone NOT using a screen protector? - Galaxy S III Accessories

I was given a three pack of Verizon anti glare protectors and they make the screen look like it's covered in an oily sheen! I know there are others out there but does anyone go naked?

Hep. No using. Over 1 year now with my HTC Sensation. And no damage at all.

i use a matte screen gaurd. And dont let the screen naked. My bro's one x got scratches in a week, it too has gorilla glass 2.

Never had one on my Samsung Epic, don't plan on getting one for the GS3. Though I do have the trident kraken case which offers a raised edge, so the screen doesn't touch a surface of placed screen down.

I only use a screen protector because it was free.. but it doesn't hurt to have one, just get a better quality one.

I have NEVER ever used screen protectors on any of my devices... from Palm to iPad to Galaxy S2 and now, S3.
You should use it the way it's supposed to be used... it's like buying a Ferrari and covering it.

got a SGS3 as work phone since 2 weeks ago, it was used by my boss before for about 1 month then he left work so I got it.
no screen protector at all, as you know, it's a work phone. I use it daily along with my One S (personal one), so far no scratches on the screen only a few very little marks on the back cover. Did not pay great attention to it but not treating it as old Nokia either. Have to say the quality is really good.
However, if I were to have one as my personal one, I will get a good quality screen protector, but leave the phone's back uncovered, you would be able to get a replacement back cover quite easily right?

I haven't used a screen protector nor a case on a phone in years. These phones are too pretty to be covered in my opinion.

Interesting feedback. I had gotten really good clear one when I purchased my Thunderbolt (the Verizon rep put it on) I looked like there was nothing in it at all. This anti glare makes my screen res look like my Treo 600...

no screen protector here, no problem!

I'll always go with a screen protector as long as it's quality like the zag hd one you don't even notice its on. Plus I with my seidio active case and it is know I should have any scratches plus in some fall the screen protector does reinforced the screen from cracking.

No screen protector here either!
I've had my sg3 for quite some time now and I don't have any scratches.

No screen protector on this or my previous phone. Never a scratch.
I do keep it in a pouch though when leaving the house.

No, it's like owning a Ferrari and parking it in the driveway. Every Ferrari owner has a garage, only stupid ones would park it on the street.

I have never used screen protectors on my htc devices but when i got the S2 it scratched up badly in a month use so a that was the first thing i bought for my s3. Wierd that my gf's sensation is like 1+ year with no screen protector and no scratches...

BUY A SCREEN PROTECTOR!!! I made the dumb mistake thinking gorilla glass worked since my last droid charge had no issues but I think the new gorilla glass on the S3 is thinner and does not work. I have two huge scratches. I can only guess it was having keys in my pocket which was supposed to not be able to scratch it.

I use nothing to protect the phone. The screen glass is really good and scratches on the housing are no problem for me.
My HD2 that I've used for two years the same way, has not even one scratch on the screen

Screen Protector for GNEX yes or no?

Okay so I picked up the galaxy nexus a couple of weeks ago and just wanted to know if I should get a screen protector or not and want to know who has one and who doesn't and please say if you do or don't in the comments thanks

I have a screen protector on mine. I guess their pretty good at preventing scratches to your screen. I've always gotten one for my devices, just felt like better safe then sorry. One thing tho, I like the ones made for the phone as opposed to buying the ones you have to cut manually. I feel like their easier and somehow I get less bubbles.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Screen protector every time. Always get the ones made for your phone, even if its the 99 cent ones on eBay, much easier to use.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP+Franco on Tapatalk 2
It's not made out of gorilla glass, so by Marshall's Law, you should get a screen protector.
Have had my phone for about a month and a half. Been running without a case when not at work for the past 2 weeks. I'm using one of the neoprene pouches instead because I hate pocket lint. It accumulated like crazy on my Defender and Kraken when in my pocket. I have nothing wrong with my screen thus far, and bought 3 Vikuiti screen protectors for about $25. They're still sitting in my room. I should probably try one out soon to see if it decreases the screen quality at all, but if it does, I'll be taking it off for sure. It's really up to how careful you are and the environment you're in.
Screen protectors ruin the vivid color experience to me. Been months and not a single scratch. As long as your careful it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm usually generally "anti screen protector" but I recently dropped my GNex face down into gravel (frowny face), which generated several scratches. Just put on one of my screen protectors I got for free with my cases (some cheap Chinese eBay ones) and it virtually hid 99% of the scratches, and didn't effect the usability/feel or clarity of it.
I think it's all about getting a good screen protector and applying it properly. This was a dry one but had special films on both sides removed right at time of application. I think I don't mind this one because its literally "edge to edge". There's no annoying lines at the top/bottom where the screen protector ends.
So far no screen protector yet. At least until the oleophobic coating wears off...
Clear screen protector here. Better to be safe than sorry

It's Murphy's Law.
I bought my GN about 2 months ago and since then i've been using a screen protector. But i'm really think in take it away, because it not only reduces the touch response as eliminates the oleophobic feature of the screen.
I had a Milestone for almost 2 years without a screen protector and it never had a single scratch. But it had gorilla glass, GN does not.

Should I buy an screen protector?

I just got my new GN and its awesome, it worth every cent.
But I haven't bought any kind of protection, neither a case, tpu or screen protector.
Is this screen really scratch resistant? I come from a 3VO and that fuc*ing screen scratched a lot... ok, not that much, but it does scratched.
So is it worth to buy an screen protector? , the screen looks awesome like this and I don't want to ruin it
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I never really used one but while something like a key will not scratch the screen, things like sand and other fine grains will. Take that into consideration..
Also if you must, xoskins screen protectors do not detract from screen quality in my personal experience.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I'll suggest you buy a protector and save your screen. The instant I saw a scratch on my screen, I got very anal about it and got the protector the very next day.
It's never too late to save your screen. The oleophobic coating is just for your finger prints, not for scratches.

Hey you made it. Check your pm. But on topic I haven't had one since I got the phone I love the glass.... Can't stand plastic coverings. But I unfortunately already have two minimal scratches that you can only see in sunlight at an angle or under a flashlight.

Last 2 phones I used Desire Z and Sensation didn't get scratches at all (Gorilla Glass)
Before that had Nexus One which got plenty of scratches in a year.
Seems same with GN. I have one annoying scratch and a few fine small ones after 3 months of use. I'd say get a screen protector for this phone.
I don't use a case and phone is usually alone in one pocket

REALOOK screen protector

Just received mine but without knowing there is no notch cut out for the FFC. Anyone else who uses a similar screen protector notice the quality of the FFC photos to diminish? If so have people cut the portion away?

Have had mine for about 1 month - no problems as long as you keep it clean. Like the small pieces for the camera lens.
I love mine had it for almost six months, getting scratched up now. Didn't notice any difference in ffc pics. I've always hated being able to tell there is a screen protector on a phone but this here was a perfect tight fit. Unnoticeable before these scratches.

I used Realook on my old Vibrant and I've used Realook on mine and my friend's S2's.
No issues with the FFC. Also Realook is, for me, hands down the best screen protector for the S2.
Thanks for the input. Applied it and am not bothered whatsoever. LOVE the feeling of it so far.

I don't use screen protectors. After using my Droid 2 for about 19 months without a screen protector, it had a couple of SLIGHT scratches on the screen. And there was one time when I dropped it about four feet screen-first onto a tile floor. No scratches from that. I dropped it a few other times as well.
Gorilla Glass is tough.

Do I need a screen protector?

Hey guy, I've have a screen protector on my phone since day 1 but recently I took it off and my screen so much more beautiful without it. Is anyone using this phone without a protector? Is it resistant against scratch? Is there a type that's not noticeable at all?

screen protector is necessary.
I have sgp ultra nano clear and it's virtually invisible.
Keep it on I know the screen looks better without it until u get your first scratch
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
The glass on our phone is very fragile. You can easily crack it from a few foot drop.. It's not as strong as the sgs2.
Get a screen protector.. Not worth the cost to repair it..

Otherwise scratches and dents will occur.

I highly suggest keeping a screen protector on- or for that matter a case would be ideal. I already got 2 deep scratches on my phone and highly regret it.
Go without the protector. Get a good case.

Hopefully I haven't just jinxed myself.
No you don't need a screen protector, they do nothing other than getting scratch, smudge and decrease the clarity of your screen. Another problem is the touch feeling of touching the glass.
For any discussion about scratches >> IT DOES NOT HAPPENS !!!
The Gorilla glass 2 on the galaxy s3 is probably the best glass in the market, doesn't scratch or easily breaks. Though the problem is the frame which scratch on drop.
I used my galaxy s3 for 3 weeks, got my screen protector on for the first 4 days and just took it off, it's just degrading my phone. I current own an iphone 4, new ipad, iphone 4s and i know they all scratches at some point, but not this galaxy s3.

This. I was scared of not using protection with this expensive phone (even though I had a Droid X for over two years without a single scratch).
I bought a Zagg HD and thought it was great....for the first couple of days. Then I realized I hate the feeling, scratched easier than normal glass! and turned a weird yellow color after a month. So I recently ditched it.
WOW, almost forgot how much more beautiful this screen is naked!
You guys have been sold by advertising.
The glass in our phone sucks. Why do you think there are so many threads about diy repair in these Forums?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
There have been a lot of videos with people using razor blades and forks to try and scratch the screen and it looks really awesome. I have had Gorilla Glass screens in the past that had the same things done to them and somehow they got scratched when I used them. I don't know how it happens (maybe diamond wielding gremlins sneak into my pockets and do their evil deed when I am not looking), but it happens.
I am a 'better safe than sorry' kind of guy. I know that if I got a scratch on my screen it would bug me until I bought a new phone so I am putting on a screen protector. I have tried the Zagg on other phones (and on my iPad) and I hate the feel of it. To be honest, I have found that the cheap screen protectors work very well and are quite clear. If/when they scratch.... Put on another one and it looks new again. At around a buck each it's no big deal.
Actually... My HTC Sensation and my Samsung - whatever the first Galaxy was on Tmobile - still have the original cheap screen protectors on them so one dollar protected them for as long as I used them.
Put me down for "use a screen protector" (but not an expensive one).
I had my phone for about a week without a screen protector and it looked gorgeous. Not a single scratch. I had a Motorola Photon before for 8 months and it also has gorilla glass. I can tell you, the glass does stand well, but it showed some small scratches after that long (and I'm not rough).
After my first week owning the phone, I had it in my pocket while sitting down and it slipped out onto the tile below. Screen shattered. I don't have insurance so I had to spend $200 for my own screen to replace it. It sucked.
A screen protector seems like a useless product, and the good ones (invisible ones) are expensive, but trust me, its a lot cheaper than a new screen. Also invest in a good case. My bezel has a scuff from the fall.
Ive never used a screen protector, and luckily I haven't scratched my screen either. Have been using N7000 since first week it was released in Sweden. Have only dropped it twice, once from pocket height on concrete floor, once from nightstand table.. both times face down of course, haha. Except from that I'm careful with my Note, only put it in a pocket where there is nothing else, and face up when I leave it on for example a table. I've never seen a screen protector I would like to use myself, so I'm careful with my phone instead and if I scratch the screen I guess I'll have to replace it or buy a Note 2. But rather that than having screen protector on in my opinion

Hi, guy doesn't it feel better without a rubber on? Same thing you take a risk but it feels better. :highfive:
I'd have to say use a screen protector. It's the first thing I purchase when getting a new handset
Sony Ericsson P800, numerous XDA variants, a HD2 and now my S3 all have them, and as yet all my screens are immaculate
If you've got a $35 handset then treat it like one, if you've got a $500 handset then at least respect it a little
I even have accidental protection with no deductible through best buy and still have a case and protector lol

Id say if you have insurance on the phone, then I wouldnt use one. I had the similar scenario as you; had a screen protector for ~1 month and removed it and realized how beautiful the screen was, haha.

I HATE screen protectors. I used my HTC evo, and shared with my 3 and 4 yr olds for 2.5 years and only used a screen protector for 1 month. I ended up after those 2.5 yrs with only a couple very very minor scratches.
Decided to keep rolling naked cause if I'm paying so damn much for this phone I want it to feel like it should.
I am going naked too.
Insurance is a wonderful idea.

Glare-reducing screem protectors tend to do that, whereas a regular clear one will not. If you put a screen protector on very well you cannot tell its there without looking for the edges and cutouts and I find the only difference is sometimes they attract fingerprints a bit more... but that tradeoff is well worth it when 3 years later you can pull off the protector and have a literally like new screen.
I used to worry incessantly about scratches or dings. Then the cases started getting larger and larger and I'd have a phone that was twice as thick as the day I unboxed it. I've since gone "naked" on my SIII and it's holding up beautifully. The screen is clear and unblemished and it's nice to have a phone that will slip into any pocket without catching or bulging. :good:

Best screen protectors I've ever used came from spigen SGP ... Here is one for the S3. They are pretty damn close to the original glass in both smoothness and oleophobic-ness, and are pretty easy to put on to boot.

I used it for a little bit this way. Loved the feel. But I noticed some people complaining about the fingerprints were showing more and more and some glide was lost. The problems appears to be that the oleophobic coating wore down. Decided to go back to utilizing a screen protector...about the same time lifeproof released the nuud and fre for the s3. Decided to go with the fre. I have tried multiple screen protectors before: zagg, spigen, even cheapos, and none can match the feel for the real thing. They come close bu just don't cut it.
Haven't had one since day one with this phone. No damage in over a year. I'll never use one again.
