[Q] Telus to Bell S3 used - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi all,
I've been trying to follow a few threads from the Canadians running the i747 S3 but haven't found a definitive answer.
I found a seller on kijiji with a rooted and unlocked (originally Telus) S3. I'm with Bell.
Am I going to have to flash the stock Bell image before I go to the Bell store to activate it? The bloatware and what not from Bell doesn't bother me, I just want to be SURE that I can take his phone and activate it on the Bell network without any issues with performance.
Can I simply take his Telus version that's unlocked and use it with Bell along with Telus' stock image?
I'm mostly new to the Android world and coming from an iPhone 4s... my apologies in advance if any of my terms are out of context.
Thanks for reading

Did the Rogers store put their bloatware on your previous Bell phone? And is it a matter of putting my sim card in the phone from my previous iphone 4s to activate it?

Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong, but if you have an iphone4s you should just need to put your sim card in the new phone and you'll be fine. The Cell providers don't really care what phone you have just the data and minute plans attached to that sim card.
If you had a BlackBerry Plan it would be different cause your new phone wouldn't work on that type of plan because the amount of data an iphone or s3 use it way different than a blackberry does.
And since both those phones use micro sim you should be good to go, just bring your micro sim card with you, plug it into the phone your wanting to buy, give it a few mintues and everything should work, make a phone call send a text before you buy it. Shouldn't have to bring it to the store or anything if you already have an active sim card

no i didnt even bring it to the rogers store. Just unlock the phone you will be using and put your sim in and your working. No need to activate it like a iphone

your iphone 4s micro sim card i don't think would work well with the s3. you'll need to buy the lte micro sim from bell.

Your iPhone 4S micro sim will work with the galaxy s3 just fine without connectivity issue. You just won't have LTE.
If you want LTE, then you'll need to change to a LTE micro sim.

Yes, that's exactly what I did and everything seems to work. I was in a rush today and only had 60% left on the battery. In less than 6 hours, it is down to 4%.
I killed all the tasks but something is taxing the battery severely. I turned off LTE as well and that seems to have slowed the battery drain.
Anyway, thanks for all the help.

Can a 3G Sim work on this phone?

So, I'm debating right now between the Hox and the gs3 and honestly the only reason why I can't get this phone is because its lte. I use a 3G sim for all my phones (except my nitro, I don't have a sim in that at all) so I need to know if one can insert a 3G sim and still get data. Oh, and I heard this uses a microsim slot? Tim to get my sim cut....

Both hox and GSIII have micro sim slots. It does have 3g, I use it all the time as there is no 4G in Pennsylvania. Not sure if you'd have to sim unlock it though.

Oh. Thanks. Just asking cuz my nitro only works with specifically designed 4G at&t sims. All other carriers, whatever sims they give, work fine.

why are you resistant to update your SIM card? also your 4G LTE connectivity will depend on your data plan.
I had a iPhone 4 3G Microsim and i had to go to AT&T to get a new sim card because my S3 would not pick up data. After a new sim card and adjustments to my account it was finally able to pick data.

Same thing for me, except i didnt need a new sim. All they had to do was change the imei on my account so my phone with that imei can receive data. The rep told me that its because you can only have one phone with data at a time, as opposed to just being able to switch sims just to receice cellular service for calls.
Post questions in QnA please

I went through similar a long time ago when I got my Atrix. I upgraded from a iPhone 3G and just continued using same SIM. At&t just updated my data to "4G" and updated my imei and everything was groovy from then on. I'm on a whole new account for my S3 though

3g will work if you use the regular apn. If you use the LTE apn (PTA), that will only work with an LTE sin card.

[Q] Can I use a t-mobile SG3 with AT&T?

So I'm planning on getting an unlocked SG3 but it's originally from t-mobile and I currently have AT&T. Will this work? I'm not planning on getting the expensive data plans though... But I heard that AT&T wouldn't be able to read the phone because it's not an AT&T phone.
Also I have a SIM card. Would I be able to go to AT&T and ask them to transfer my contact/info from my SIM to a microSIM free? Some people have said that they simply want to get a microSIM and said that they have an adapter to make it a regular SIM card so that they can still use it for their "dumbphone."
P.S. I don't know anything about networks or phone details since I'm not knowledgable about the hardware and whatnot about technology. So please keep the explanations as simple as possible. Step by step processes would be nice!

Yes you can fully use the T-Mobile version on att and get H+ speeds. Not sure about data plan... I know that worked for international version though.
Just store your contacts on your Google account and you can sync your contacts to any phone in a minute. No need to store by Sim. Yes there are microSIM adapters, but I don't like them as they sometimes mess up the prongs that read the SIM.
The only thing you won't get is lte speeds but h+ is more than sufficient.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I can confirm that as I am using a T-Mobile sg3 on at&t whilst typing this. The only problem I had was the mobile data wouldn't work at first and my local store changed one character of my imei and it started to work. There are other APN settings that work too.

old sim card

wife bought me a new s2, havent used the phone yet but can i use my other t mobile sim card in the s2. if so what features will i be losing. my old sim card is on my hp pre 3 and i do seem to get 3g speeds from it or at least partly hspa+ and not the full hspa+42. i am wondering if i do use my old card if i will be able to get the hspa+42 speeds. also will the phone still work without registering my new s2 with t-mobile as i never registered my hp pre 3
thanks
I believe you need to use new sim card comes with s2. I know one thing is new sim card features the WiFi calling. Not sure about 42+ speed. Because I don't know anyone that get that speed. Most I ever got was 21mbps. And you need to call or go to T-Mobile website and register new sim card to work with existing number. Website was very easy for me.
Enjoy your Hercules..

Can I use Verizon Galaxy Nexus on Straight Talk?

THe phone is unlocked but verizon is way too damn expensive. I'd like to switch to straight talk and just use the phones I already have rather than buying new ones, is this possible? I tried googling around but nothing gave me a straight answer. If it's possible what do i have to do?
NO!!

You need a sim card for straight talk. The Verizon phone does not physically take a sim card. So, no, unfortunately, you can't.

Verizon phones have sim cards but it is only for lte. There is no GSM radio in your Verizon phone.

Sorry for being unclear; let me clarify. I'm pretty sure you have an LTE sim card, which is not the same as, say, a GSM AT&T sim card (which would be compatible).
If Verizon switched to the compatible sim cards, my apologies for posting the wrong information.
I tried with a verizon galaxy nexus on straight talk i bought the sim card activated then cut the sim card to a mini booted phone and no go different frequencies in canada anyways
Well actually if you have a Verizon Incredible 2 phone it does have a sim card that if tthe phone is unlocked does acept any sim card. The INC2 is a world phone, I have one near Chicago for my son and it works on Verizon, ATT, or Tmo

Help yourself then
Search on eBay. There are people that will flash your phone to Straight Talk. And yes, Straight Talk is both a GSM and a CDMA MVNO. If it's a CDMA phone then it gonna be using Verizon's network, but if it's a GSM phone, it's gonna be using At&t's network.
Straight talk doesn't use ATT anymore. You can still find the Sims that will work but they cut the plan down. GSM is primarily focused on TMo now.
I set my gf up with her iPhone 4S and she likes it.
I didn't know about supporting CDMA and their website doesn't say anything about it. I'm not even sure the process. I'm assuming a CDMA sim?
I don't think this will work, at least not by traditional means.

I wasn't aware of that change, thanks for the info. If you go on the Straight Talk site, and look up the phones they have for sale, the CDMA ones will have the Verizon coverage map underneath. The problem is getting your phone's esn/meid onto the Straight Talk system. Like I said, go on eBay and there are people who will do that and fully flash the phone for you.

You can flash it to Sprint, or Cricket, straight talk is gsm. You might be able to connect to another carriers LTE if they have bad 17

Not sure....what phone you have? The t989 does not do LTE.
Just so you know. Not sure about the sim cards tho.
Sent from my cell phone telephone using some sort of app...
This phone/sim does not come with the supported hardware for lte , so if you do get a new phone supporting lte just go down to t-mobile and say you need a new sim card they usually don't charge unless you get a rookie or an @$$
The sim card itself is lte enabled but the Hercules doesn't have the hardware, they did package late software in the latest update but it won't be useable until they restructure their entire tower system, and u need to have a model built after apr2013, some ppl in the midwest have seen lte already but like I said u need to be in a restructured zone with a t989 built after apr13', this comes from a tmobile tech rep....although realistically this phone is capable of 42mbps anyway with regular 4g so late isn't going to be that much better in its early days..

I was planning on getting new LTE phone so that's why i was wondering
when you get a new LTE phone they will swap your sim card for a new one but tell them you want to keep your old one just in-case or they throw it away lol
