Ok so Galaxy S II bootup work but im not getting a Galaxy S III Shutdown
So if that can be changed into a boot screen, does this give me hope that I can change into something more personal to my liking? I have rom toolbox pro, but it don't work. I had it for another phone and it worked awesome on it.

Well we don't have kernel source yet so we can't change the kernel to accept bootanimation.zips. All we can do now is use the stock bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg from other phones. In the future though, yes. And dman probably has is in cm10...maybe
Works great!

While we wait for kernel source and fully custom boonanimations, there are still a few other choices out there. I'm using the files from a Galaxy Ace 2, you can snag the files for that and see a preview here. I also snagged what I believe to be the original Roger's boot logo from our phone, which you can see here. I've not made a flashable zip of either, but here are the two Rogers files.
Okay

will this work on other roms? of only for stock ics? what about jb? I'd like the ability to user edit the boot and shutdown animations / sounds with Dman's cm10!
CM10 Bootanimation for everyone?
I found a CM10_bootanimation.zip and I wanna share it with everyone. There's instructions on how to install it, but I'm kinda scared to because as of right now, my phone is working just fine with rooted 4.0.4 ICS with the BL fix and tether fix. If anyone can look into this and see if it works on the glide please let me know!

This is what dman already has on his cm10. So you wouldn't need to install this separately.

Oh. I didn't know because his list says the crt off animation wasn't working, so I thought that the boot animation and crt were in the same category

I finally figured out why bootanimations no longer work in FI03 (I didn't bother checking FH23, I'm sure it will work for that build too).
I did a diff of all the lib files (there were 33) and narrowed it down to libsurfaceflinger.so. The file is showing a different binary signature between FH13 and FI03 even though they are exactly the same size byte for byte. If you take the file from FH13, custom bootanimation now works. :victory:
Give it a try and let me know if it works for you.
That is the same file you replace to fix the flicker after crt off animation. Nice job, i wonder how it changed to stop boot animations.

That's correct, I almost forgot about that. Once I finally got around to trying the lib, it was the first file I replaced when I spotted it in the list.

Yes, FI25 is working for custom bootanimations again (as long as the kernel you are using has custom bootanimation support).
I have a bunch of custom bootanimations ported over from Rom Toolbox if anyone wants to try them out. The link is in my sig.

Has anybody used the ROM Toolbox pro to download and change boot animations? I was wondering if it works okay or if there are issues with the note 2. If there aren't any issues then I may try some of the animations it has listed. There are some cool ones their server.

Here is the Stock UCLJ3 Firmware for ICS
It is:
Rooted
Deodexed
Zipaligned
Batch Optimized
NOT debloated
Two versions available
Pure stock Here: UCLJ3-Stock-ATT
Stock with data/app and aosp ics lockscreen enabled Here: UCLJ3-Stock-ATT-Aosp_Lock
This rom will wipe all data on flash but i suggest a full wipe anyway.
DEVS and MODDERS:
If you wish to use the aosp lock in your roms, just remove the android.policy.jar from the second version and replace in your rom..
Enjoy!

Odd. I wiped data/cache/dalvik and installed, but it seems like the tw lockscreen and the aosp lockscreen are running in tandem. I can use the aosp ring, OR just swipe the screen like normal. Anyone else run into this/ is this as intended?
Also, I've tried it with the aosp lockscreen option in the settings both ticked and unticked.
Only the top third of the screen seems to be active as the tw lockscreen. In and around the clock.

Thank you, sir. Everything else appears to be in ship shape so far.
Hey Dman, Thanks for providing these for all of us!
Got a quick question. If I add some apk's to the /system and /data, that are from the market, do I need to have them de-odexed?
if so is there a good method to do that to individual apk's?
Thanks again.
P.S. sorry for the noob like question, I'm still a "redneck in training" with developing!!
Any apps from the market need to be placed in data/app and they should already be deodexed. If they're in data/app they can update thru the market.

Based on: This thread.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Screenshots:
Video from original thread, so not on Xperia S but Galaxy Nexus.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tested working on FXP145 and newer. Older should probably work too, but I'm not sure about that. (CM10 and Xperia S, of course)
Please report if it works and any bug you run in to! And you might want to backup the files modded by this mod (services.jar, framework-res.apk, framework2.jar, framework.jar and android.policy.jar which are all in the system/framework/ folder) in case you want to get back to the original lockscreen.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Download:
Here.
Warning! Somebody reported to me the mod isn't working properly on FXP149. Somebody else reported it working though, so I guess it should be fine. You probably want to backup your files for the sake of safety though.
Install instructions:
1. Save the zip to your phone's memory.
2. Reboot into recovery.
3. Go to "Install from zip" -> "Install from sdcard" and select the zip file.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions.
5 . Reboot device and enjoy!

The framework is different. Give him the PA 2.55 framework-res.apk (and maybe a few other files, I don't remember what is used) so he can apply over it.
I am just waiting for FXP to fix the problems on their kernel which was causing problems on dual boot to update my PA to the next version, so consider it, @OP, a request for the future.

Yes I know about that first one, but as you can see in the video, it's in the original mod too. So I don't think I can do anything about it. Will look into the source though.
That second thing looks interesting, because here it shows up every time, even though sometimes barely visible. Are you sure it really isn't there sometimes?

Sadly enough that won't work, because the patch (from the original mod) isn't done to the compiled (framework-res.apk, framework.jar etc...) files, but to the source code. Then I compile it and pick out the files needed, pack them up in a zip file, and deliver them to you .

Yeah I was already thinking about that, but I don't know for sure if it will work. Since this patch is made for CM10, I think it might break some things specific to PA. I'll download the PA source and try it out when I have some spare time

Because it's made for CM10 my friend but still thanks for trying because I now know I'll have to build a special one for PA and AOKP
Btw, a small status update: I've ran out of disk space on my wubi install so I'm waiting on my NAS to come, which should arrive somewhere next week. Then I can move all my media (movies, music etc...) to the NAS, and resize my wubi disk to a lot bigger one Then the sources I was downloading can continue
Perfect in fxp 147

I thought it would still work, isn't AOKP based on CM or am I way out of line here? Anyways a version for AOKP would be appreciated :good:

Yes, the
guy who made this patch (evilisto), also made some other ones like the BB10 (I believe) LockScreen. If you want you can request one from his threads and I should be able to make it

So we finally have a method to change our boot animations without using the very expensive program to create QMG files.
I am going to give you an E4GT specific tutorial that I have come up with because this method was created and used for the Note II.
Thank you to smokin1337 for posting the Note II version HERE
"Update: As pointed out in the comments, this was also accomplished by XDA Senior Member anbech in his thread originally aimed at the SGS3."
SGS3 Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897969
Here we go!!!
ROOT is required.
1. Add bootanimation.zip of your choice to /system/media
2. Flash Bootanimation4U.zip in recovery of your choice other than stock.
Flash Gears-Bootanim.zip in recovery of choice(other than stock) for generic boot animation. Will also fix a bug of a non working boot animation causing a completely black screen. Even after boot. Just flash this and it will fix your problem.
Those two files are attached.
If you want sound add an ogg file named PowerOn.ogg to /system/media/audio/ui, if sound doesn't work be sure /system/bin/samsungpowersoundplay exists if its there it will play sound if not its not included in your rom download it HERE then put it where it belongs and fix the perms which should be rwxr-xr-x
Reboot...Enjoy
Some custom boot animations
Kick Ace Boot Animations
12MaNy's Boot animations
You can also use Rom Toolbox found in the market to change your boot animations to any that they have on their server. Some may not work but most do. Don't worry if it doesn't work, your phone will still boot fine. I will go over how to make RTB animations work correctly.
Flash bootanimation4u.zip in recovery
Grab ROM Toolbox from the market. There is a lite version that is free and a Pro version that is $4.99. I highly suggest getting the pro version.
Next you will scroll over into the 'Interface section of RTB and go down to boot animations.
That will load up all of the available animations to install.
Next you will press the menu softkey and a menu will pop up.
Hit the second option for the 'Install Location'.
Change it to "/system/media/" (No quotes) Also do not change the file name.
After that you can install any normal boot animation.
If you want to install Tablet animations you will need to...
Download it first. Do not install.
Click it and select "Resize"
Change the width to 480
Change the height to 800
Make sure the FPS is at 30
Hit ok and then install it as normal
Reboot to view it.
(If you get a black screen with no animation try changing the FPS to 20 if that doesn't work, then the animation most likely wont work, but feel free to try a different FPS)
Thanks for reading guys and I hope I helped some of you new guys and veterans bring more customization to your phone.
 :highfive:
This is awesome. Thank you for this. Can't wait to finally have custom boot animation back.

Have you tested yet? Also, please consider adding this to your OP for credits as taking from the article on the portal. "Update: As pointed out in the comments, this was also accomplished by XDA Senior Member anbech in his thread originally aimed at the SGS3."

I just tried this on rooted / deodexed GA10 and it doesn't seem to work. Granted, I'm using the lite version, but I changed the install location, the boot animation install said "complete", but the boot animation didn't change.
Any thoughts?

Did you flash the bootanimation4u.zip in the OP? You have to flash that for it to work.

getting black screen is usually caused by bad desc.txt file, or the bootanimation.zip file being compressed..
if getting black screen, try remake the desc.txt file with notepad++, and/or try extract the bootanimation.zip file, then add the desc.txt file and the including part-folders into a new bootanimation.zip file with no compression...
just my 2cents
cheers
