Wifi Issue Possible Fix? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have researched and people say to turn off wifi power save by dialing *#0011# but whenever I go there is says connection problem or invalid MMI is there any way to fix my MMI or bypass it so my wifi can work successfully and not have to reconnect right after it connects?

anyone find a fix for this?

Should I get a new sim card?

A new sim card would not fix this.
When you go to the *#0011# menu, press the menu button, click wifi and there should be a button labelled "on", click that.

I cannot get to the menu because it says I have invalid MMI code.

That code fixes it but I am rooted and flash roms some don't support service mode and the WiFi drop issue returns so far jellybro from cm10 and miui have the WiFi issue. Plz note that the roms themselves are stable and run just fine. Also nottach's Ariel Rom doesn't have the WiFi issue and he even has service mode in his Rom so I've seen that his WiFi power save feature is still on but no WiFi issue. I'll ask him if he knew of the issue and knew a permanent fix.

[Q] Is Wifi Calling Missing in CM7 on purpose?

I've done several Google searches on this topic as well as focused searches on the CM and XDA forums; I figured it was time to just ask the question myself.
So I noticed that Wifi Calling started missing in in the CM7 nightlies sometime after #21. I ran across someone from the CM forums who saw theirs returned after his upgrade from #28->#30 (which I did not see on mine even after a full wipe).
Is there a setting or condition on my phone that prevents me from seeing/activating this feature?
Thanks in advance,
Reg
I've been running CM7 since build number 0 and now I'm on build 31, I have flash every nightly released and have always had wifi calling on every single build.

So I did a clean install of #21, which had wifi calling, but when I upgraded to 22, it was gone. Might anyone else know what I can do to install?
Thanks,
When you are upgrading, what are you wiping? You only need to wipe cache.

I've tried multiple things: cache wipes, no wipes, "clean" installs, manually formatting each mount point. None of that matters for me. Wifi calling only shows up in builds up-to-and-including 21; after that, it just vanishes.
Thanks for trying though, dude.
As i installed the CM 7.0.0-RC1 with Nightly version 2. and i found the same thing means WIFI is not working but when i press the power button and found the option REBOOT and select this option and then again i select the option REBOOT, Phone rebooted and then turn on wifi and it started working. so all you have to do is to Reboot the phone as i said. you will hopefully find your WIFI option working.
as i had the same.

Yes, it is well known that a first reboot is required to get WiFi working on CM7 right now. OP's question, however, is about the missing WiFi calling application.
OP, that's very interesting that it won't show up. So if you do a clean full wipe and install of something like RC1 or higher, you still don't get WiFi calling? Mine has been in there on every build... hmm..
I did'nt Wipe the Cache , I did the reset factory settings option. and install the CM7.0.0-RC1 with nightly version 2. and after done i found the wifi option is not working.
as i told when i rebooted the phone and i found the wifi option working.
Do you have a g2 or a desire z? I am looking at the changelog right now and it says that wifi calling is only installed on the g2. I'm assuming that you have a g2 since you are asking about it, but just throwing my 2 cents.
Maybe the rom is thinking that you are running a Z instead of a G2. Idk. It might help. More than likely not, but it's worth saying IMO.

I know what you are saying . but i tried everything after that i said so that wifi calling is working. as you find the WIFI connection then go the wifi calling app and then enable it and connect to tmobile network so that you can use it. but if you are in such area where Tmobile network's service is bad then might there be a chances to have no connection with wifi calling even if you have connected to wifi network (Internet)

now i am store working and i have a wifi at my job too. so i connect there carefully once again and checked everything and when i open to the wifi calling app and connect to T-Mobile Network for wifi calling i see after connecting to Tmobile via wifi radio signals turn to zero and when i disconnect it singals first had a 'x' on it and then they turn green. so make sure you are using the tmobile network then you will be able to use wifi option.

[Q] wifi tether app help

I have wifi tether app installed but when I open and run it it constantly acts like it looses 3g connection. computer will connect with local access only. phone will have 3g logo and will switch between up and down arrows then have both then none then the 3g logo will dissapear. it acts like it is constantly switching between channel/signals but never stays connected. I am on a rooted 2.3.4 using downgrade and s-off running stock+ rom. I had wifi tether working in the past after root and rom but now it doesnt. my wife is on a rooted 2.2 with no issues. we have same settings and radios and hers works fine. I have used tb to uninstall and restore older versions I have uninstalled and downloaded the newest apk version I could find and it still does the same thing. The phone has no issues connecting to other wifi hotspots(home or public) and work fine on its own data for internet surfing. the only problem Im having is with wifi tether to connect laptop to.
radio is 2.15.00.07.28
software 4.08.605.2

Therr is a way to change settings in the epst menu which you access by dialing ##778#, that will allow you to use the stock hotspot app for free.

Dial ##778# and hit call. A menu should appear, select edit mode. A password box will appear enter six zero's (000000) as the password. A menu will appear select security. Look for and change any entries that look like "your#@dun.vzw3g.com" remove the "dun." so it looks like "your#@vzw3g.com". Then hit back to the main menu and select M.IP Default profile and look for and change the same entries as before. Once done hit menu and commit changes, the phone will reboot. Once rebooted use the stock app as normal ignoring the you must subscribe to this service message. Note if you do a *228 option 1, an ruu, or a factory reset from the settings menu or hboot, or have to reactivate the phone, you will have to edit the settings again before using the stock hotspot app. I have been doing it for years and verizion is none the wiser. There are either 2 or 3 entries which need to be edited.
You checked "yes this is a question"

[Q] Using Toro+ as a WiFi Device, Disabling Radios

I have completed my Sprint contract and have started using my Toro+ as a WiFi phone with a T-Mobile HotSpot. I want to disable the cell radios so that they are not using any battery. I do not want to use airplane mode as the icon will drive me crazy and Bluetooth doesn't seem to work. Can I possibly wipe the radios through ADB, or is there a dialer command like I found with the Nexus S 4G? Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!
I have figured out that you can dial *#*#4636#*#*, choose phone information from the menu that pops up, then you can scroll down and turn off radios. That seems to be working, but is there anything else that may be more permanent?

The radios are enabled again after a re-boot. There has to be a more permanent solution.
If the phone remembers airplane mode setting between reboots, you could install an app called Plane Mode Tweaker, and set it to leave wifi on

[Q] Another weird SIII Wifi problem

Hey All, there are a lot of threads and various internet discussions for various SIII wifi problems, but I have yet to find anything that addresses my current issue:
My phone detects wifi networks that it has not connected to before, but once I have successfully connected to a wifi network and subsequently lost that connection, I can never see that wifi network again. I have tried it with a couple different networks, including a wifi hotspot created by my iphone, and it always happens. My wifi will still show networks that I have not connected to.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The phone is not rooted and is using the stock Rogers firmware.
Thanks!

This hasn't always been happening... I have had the phone for a few weeks now and it started after I arrived at my company apartment in Spain last week.

your S3 might have wifi power save on
try this
1. Open up the Galaxy*S3*phone dialer
2. Dial *#0011# to enter service mode
3. Press the menu button and select “WiFi”
4. You should see that the “WiFi Power Save Mode” button is “ON”
5. Press it to turn power save “OFF”

if it doesn't work, try factory reset (also wipe cache and data)

My guess: The router is the problem. Or the router's settings. Not your phone itself.
You can test your Wifi by either connecting to another router or to someone's wifi tethering.

I get this problem on various devices occasionally. Sometimes it helps when I remove the network from memory and reconnect to it.
Ie. Click "Forget this network" and then rejoin it. Doesn't always help though.
You can unplug the router for few seconds then plug it back in to see if that works.

Error- "Data connection not avaiable for voice calls"

Hey folks,
today I got a weird problem on my Z2. After i turned off airplane mode i wasnt able to recieve calls and SMS even tough datas connection worked fine and still does, when trying to call i get this message as in the title "data connection not avaible for voice calls". I'm pretty sure i didn't touch anything related to that lately so i tried with another SIM (same carrier) and i get the same problem. I'm unable to try on another device though but i think it's related to the phone or at least related to the carrier.
If anyone has experienced this already or has an idea about how to fix this please let me know!
Cheers

Do you have Advanced Calling turned on? As I understand it, that requires both a voice connection and data connection. Also, have you tried driving far enough that you would be connected to a different cell tower? It could be an issue of hardware failure at your local cell tower.

On the last couple of versions of Android, it has been in the upper part of the settings page, where the various wireless settings are grouped. If you don't see it, and you have a "more settings" or "..." entry at the bottom of the wireless settings, click on that.
