I normally get ~12-15 hours usage with ~3 (generally slightly less; sometimes more) hours screen time.
I vary from 3G/4G/WiFi so much from day to day it's hard to judge which I use the most.
But I'll say for sure; service plays a major part.
When I worked in an area that had spotty on/off service my phone would drop ~10% per hour without even turning the screen on.

Service, signal strength, kernel, set up, auto brightness off, sync or no sync so many factors that it's difficult to compare one set up to another. This is the age old question in Android and impossible to answer because everyone uses their device differently.

What country are you in? There are laws against that and considering it is private property and value in excess of 500.00$ you do have civil claims and damages you file for. He can ask that you put it away or demand you leave his classroom but to intentionally take and destroy private property is against the law.
Back on topic.... With wifi on you should be getting upwards of 3 hrs or more of screen time but again depends on if your a heavy user like games and how high you have your brightness set, amongst many other options. It's all in the settings.

[Q] Constantly in a bad reception zone

When I'm at school (5 days a week) most of my classes are in a building where I do not get a lot of reception, aka, my battery gets killed by the phone to keep up the signal. I do get reception, around 1-2 bars, but that still drains the battery extremely fast. Is there any app or something that I can do to help reduce the amount of battery drain?
I don't want to put the phone into air plane mode because I can still send and receive text messages, but it's just very slow.
Have you tried putting it in cdma only mode?

You could save a lot of battery life by either connecting to a wifi hotspot (if available) or by turning off background data. The problem your phones having is that it has to turn the gain way up on its cellular radio in order to transmit and receive data. By reducing the amount of background data usage (or off loading it to another network with better signal--i.e. wifi) you'll save a lot of juice.
If you can't do either, there are some things you can do with Tasker to reduce data usage to windows of time instead of always on. May be something to consider.

Give juice defender a try. It used to almost double the battery life on my old X10 when I worked in a building that I could only get 1 bar at best.

3-5 Hours Screen On Time

I've seen screenshots of people getting 5 hours of screen-on time. Is anyone here getting that? If you are, please post screenshots below of your setup, and be VERY specific on what you are running, and how you are doing it. Please share the knowledge. Oh, and please don't bother posting if you're using an extended battery.
I'm running Liquid Smooth 1.4 and the (supposed) 3800 mAh Trexcell battery that I bought for $20 on Amazon.
With the standard battery the most screen-on time I ever got was 2:30 hrs. Now I get 3:30-4:00 hrs of on-screen time. Not quite double, but an improvement.
Frankly I don't know how anyone is managing 4 hours of screen-on time with the stock battery.
As an addendum: Even when I was running stock, I was getting equal-to or worse values for screen-on time.
95% of the people getting 4-5 hours of screen on time are on the GSM version. 2-3 hours is typical for Sprint and Verizon users.
Setups don't make a huge difference. What makes the difference is usage while the screen is on.
Depending on the usage, i can get 4 hours screen time on stock 1750mAh battery.
Just occasionally surfing the web using WiFi, no 3G connection, occasionally pressing the power button to check the time and 30% brightness.
I use AOKP + Franco (both latest), and always get around 3h - 3.5h. Half the time I'm using wifi, and I never use data. I don't have cell service 25% of the time, and usually have weak cell service.
Most of them are on wifi... like me I can get 5hrs of display time over wifi but only about 3hrs on my terrible 3G speeds and connection.
With the stock battery.
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy Nexus via XDA Premium
When I was running AOKP build 36 with Franco Kernel 166 I was able to get 3:55 with the stock battery. I did underclock to 1036MHz with some slight undervolting. I never use WiFi and my data is only on when my screen is on. I also played games for about an hour and a half.
Now I'm on AOKP build 38 with Franco's Milestone 4, and I usually average 2-3 hours of screen on time.
Unless the spring and verizon versions are so wildly different, I'm going to ask for screenshot proof if this. I bet you're mistaking "awake" time for screen-on time.

They are wildly different. They use different cellular technology.
But you just said at the top of the thread that Spring and Verizon have comparable times, now they are wildly different? They are both CDMA. In the case above its WiFi only.

I thought you were talking about Sprint/Verizon and the GSM model, that is my fault.
BUT, Verizon has LTE for the majority of people, which will suck the battery dry faster than EVDO Rev A on Sprint.

I concur... usually if you have good LTE speeds and connection.. your battery life will be better same goes for 3G... i've seen people with full bars on 3G pull almost 4hours with the stock battery, yet with a 1-2 bar connection and a .50mbps speed... i can almost get 3 hours. I would assume that LTE would be less of a battery drain unless you have terrible connection to it.

hmm doesnt make sense, i figure the faster speeds would help... then it wouldnt have to struggle to pull something up through, lets say the web browser. I mean if you have 1bar of LTE then yeah thats gunna drain faster or similar to 3G. But 3-4 would be optimal.... i assume im terribly wrong but.. these are just my thoughts and assumptions

In terms of data transfer, sure but I believe just getting and holding onto an LTE signal, especially for a CDMA-based phone causes a lot of the problems.
HOW!!!!! What are you running, what apps you have, etc.
Like I said over all wifi. Skanwich and Samurai Kernel. I don't have anything that syncs. I dont use any "battery" apps and this is just Xda and various other games and YouTube... it just doesn't show up... for some reason. Also its undervolted but stock frequencies. Using the on demand governor.

One hour on regular battery

I must be doing either something really wrong or else...
My battery last me a little over one hour on standard battery (original rom+root) and that's me even using lean kernel. I've seen on forum some people were able to get as much as four hours of their screen why is it with my phone I'm only about to do so little?
What's the best so to see what's going on with my phone, who eats my battery, which apps are doing something that they shouldn't.
It really is killing me, I want to be able to enjoy my phone longer.

to save power I completely switched over 3G (by turning off 4G (LTE))
on the top of that whenever I can I always switch WiFi on to switch to WiFi instead of 3G and whenever WiFi is not available I always turn it off.
and here is a kicker: I also use Ultimate Juice Defender (w/ pretty aggressive settings (turning data on only every 15 minutes)

Why is my battery "done" ? I blame Sandy as before that it was fine, I'd easily do close to 2h of Screen time (at least 1h30m), now after Sandy due to reception that I'm getting right now I think that's why I'm getting so little now..

it's not like Sandy moved in or anything... Sandy is already gone and people (including me) heavily rely on their phones to communicate with others and so am I, so I need my phone more then I did before and if it's dying half way through the day that's a problem for me.

Your awake / screen on ratio looks pretty nutty to me. Basically your phone was awake for 4 hours, and your screen was on for 1 hour. Titaniumbackup kept your phone awake for 38 minutes; why is that?
Sign out of any google services you don't use like Google Talk and / or Google+.
Turn off location services and only turn it on when you need to. It's easy to toggle this by placing a Location services shortcut on your homescreen. This, for me, has had the largest impact on my idle battery usage. With location on, batt would drain around 2 to 3% per hour. Now it takes 3 hours idle to take the battery down 2%.

Google Talk and/or Google+ is closed (and even cleared from recent task upon completion of using them)

Network Mode Question

LTE is being developed in my area so I know it'll work sporadically. My question is if I leave the CDMA/LTE/EVDO network mode selected will that have a negative effect on my battery when it's not connecting to LTE or will it be about the same as just CDMA/EVDO?

Yeah, I believe there will be a very slight increase in power usage just because it's searching for LTE every once in a while. Nothing major, you probably won't even notice it. I believe it's almost equivalent to if you have NFC on. But if you actually do connect to LTE your battery will be depleted fairly quickly. But hey, that's what they're for right? Haha

Completely Incorrect being on LTE is like being on Wifi, it's a battery saving. It's not like 4g with wimax which went through battery like it was going out of style. LTE coming on in my area has been the best thing ever.

No he said if you connect to LTE it will deplete the battery and that's incorrect. Under the old wimax 4g that was a true statement. But LTE 4g is as good as being on wifi. When using data on a smartphone your battery life is consumed rather quicker than having data turned off. While on 3g you can watch your battery level go down by the second. But while on wifi you have a much slower draw, and now with LTE 4g it's just as slow of a draw and sometimes even slower adding to how long your device can go without recharging.
My wifi reference is a comparison, as everyone knows that while on wifi your battery last longer.

I have not tested this as I do not live in an area with much LTE, however through searches I have seen exactly 1 time where it says that LTE is a battery saver. And that would be your post. I haven't seen any concrete evidence of this being true but like I said, I haven't been able to test it so you could be right. But everything I've read says otherwise.

Well visit the The People's Rom thread and you will find quite a few people that will verify that fact. I have been on solid LTE since November and on both of my devices S3 and Gnex the battery life has done nothing but improve. I never connect to wifi at home anymore since I get better results being on LTE. Trust me when you have it you will enjoy the same benefits. On the wimax 4g it was like multiplying the 3g draw X2 but LTE is completely the opposite.

I wouldn't say LTE is a battery saver, but it doesn't drain your battery like crazy either - not as badly as some people are saying, anyway. LTE drains the battery no faster than 3G, but whether or not it's on par with WiFi, I have no clue. I keep WiFi turned off and rely solely on my mobile network, and I get around 20 hours per charge with 2.5 hours screen on. I'm almost exclusively on 4G since it's mostly complete in the Chicago suburbs, and there is definitely no noticeable battery drain.

I keep WiFi turned off and rely solely on my mobile network, and I get around 20 hours per charge with 2.5 hours screen on. I'm almost exclusively on 4G since it's mostly complete in the Chicago suburbs, and there is definitely no noticeable battery drain.

On 3g my phones would drain drastically, but since LTE it's like being on wifi or better for me. Whenever I have to go somewhere there is only 3g coverage the drain is almost exactly doubled.

Yeah, that sounds right, I guess. I'm almost never on 3G anymore, and when I am, it's for no more than a couple minutes, then back to 4G goodness, so I really have no point for comparison. My only real point was that some people tell others to turn off LTE in order to save battery power, but the difference is so negligible that it's just easier to leave LTE on. I assume those folks have only experienced 4G through Sprint Wimax or Verizon LTE (the original Verizon LTE phones had terrible battery life while on 4G), so they just assume LTE will drain the battery on any phone, even the S3.
Just an update. There is LTE in my city (on the other side of town away from where I live -_-) and it works amazing! It's not saturated yet but I don't think it'll slow down to much when more people start using it. And unlike WIMAX (which is still here as well) it doesn't use nearly a lot of battery power as I was expecting.

Ah lucky, I only get WiMax, it eats through my battery so ridiculously fast

awesome battery life

I don't use my phone to stream movies and play games like many people, but still it's awesome standby time (this is a year old battery).
meh....
hardly using your phone =/= amazing battery..
Omg! That's terrible! Your battery needs to be taken to the back porch and shot!

Nice!

Oh man... turn off a few things (gps etc.), flash the latest AK kernel, and see what that does for you. I usually get around 2.5-3 hours on screen time.

I'm too able to get 2.5-3 hours of screen time, but it won't last me 5 days

On Verizon Galaxy Nexus this is completely unrealistic for me...
I'm ecstatic with 2 hrs screen on time.
Edit: Using AK Kernel, and love it. But still...

Sorry to hear that
Of course I'm on wifi all day and I undervolt a little, so our different settings probably account for that. Try playing around with your settings, you might just be surprised :good:

Since I still have unlimited data with Verizon, I never bother with WiFi.
But it's also really because wifi usually annoys me, I feel like when I've used it it's never reliable (and my work wifi is slow and has filters). Like wifi will go to sleep and I won't recieve a google talk message until 15 minutes after the fact... So I just use 4g.
I should try practicing using WiFi to see how much of a difference it will make.

ah yeah that would be the culprit. 4g absolutely annihilates my battery too. That sucks about your work wifi, but if you want better battery life, that's the solution.
Actually now that I think about it, 2 hours on screen time with 4g on all day is pretty dang good!
I don't understand sense of open new thread for this purpose...
each galaxy nexus has different CPU, Battery and usage,
if you are 60 years old that using phone only with clock purpose it's simple achieve this time
the most important factor about battery is data, wifi and 3G data trasmission destroy our battery , the other one is screen, 0% brightness != 100% brightness != auto brightness.
the thirth thing is kernel optimization of governor, using aggressive governor don't help with smoothness and cause your battery die fast, optimized governor is the one that don't switch to max freq unless is required, intellidemand do this better than others
Anyway each device is different, i done time ago an investigation about this, Smartreflex of our phone is different , my friend had GN too
Code:
FREQ(Mhz) MINE(mV) FRIEND(mV)
300 840 820
700 1080 1025
1200 1260 1220
