Sluggish/ Choppy ROM - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I am currently using Freegsm r6 with trinity 46G kernel on my Galaxy s3 tmobile. I've been using using the rom for my daily for about a month now. I feel the rom is running a little choppy and sluggish. say if I were in an app or even my messages, I click the home button and it'll take me to my home screen. on my homescreen, I have the weather and Google search widget. 4 out of 5 times when I press my home button, my two widgets act like they are refreshing--like they are loading up. i don't have alot of things running and i even close out tasks and tried it.. even OC'ed to 1700Mhz, it does that. also, messages and email freezes quite a bit and crashes. Is there a solution for this? my searches aren't giving me any answers.

Stock rom has redraw issues going into home screen too.

thanks for the vocabulary. I see you're on the freegsm R6 with the trinity kernel as well. are you having the same that redraw issue?

Every stock based rom i use has that issue.

Using Nova Launcher always seemed to minimize launcher redraws for me. I also use Holo Launcher which has an option to keep the launcher in memory.

4.0.4 laggy!

Is it just me, or does 4.0.4 feel more laggy and slow than 4.0.2?
For example, the homescreen scrolling is less smooth now, and app drawer stutters when I scroll.
Sorry to be a noob, but will wiping cache help?
Not experiencing this whatsoever.
No "lag" here.

anyone got suggestions on fixing this?
Wiping cache and dalvik won't hurt right?
Maybe enabling hardware acceleration if u haven't?

Actually I just wiped cache and dalvik in CWM. If it's still laggy after boot up I might flash stock 4.0.4 image and restore everything from Titanium.
edit: fuuu do I really have to do this.... dammit this sucks. still lags. I don't want to restore everything ;(
First time I booted after upgrading it looked laggy. Now it's just as fine as it was 4.0.2.

OK guys. I know why it's lagging now. Turns out it was an app I installed after flashing. 'bird bar premium'. Uninstalled
I guess the ability to swipe down for notification drawer in full screen apps isn't worth the trade off of laggy performance :/
Anyone know a mod that can do that tho? Pretty useful.

Use Apex Launcher free in the market/Play Store. It has options to tie actions to swiping up/down and double tapping. One of those actions is pulling down the notification bar and I also use the swipe down action for the notification bar on it (much easier than reaching for the top of the screen when using the phone with one hand). Apex Launcher seems to give me less redraws than Nova Launcher too while keeping all the same functionality of Nova Launcher, plus a few more things such as the above mentioned swipe/double tap actions.

nice, thanks for the suggestion. But what I'm looking for is, you know how you can only swipe down for notification drawer when you see the status bar? But in full screen apps (like angry birds) you can't see the status bar which means you can't swipe it down.
I think you're saying Apex launcher assigns a gesture for that? I only want this mod for full screen apps. Thanks.

[Q] Why use any launcher over GO Launcher on Rooted Phone (Calk EG4T V 1.6 ROM))?

Can anyone help me with why I should use any launcher over GO Launcher? I have rooted and installed the new Calkulin V1.6 ROM.
Thanks!
Personally I feel as if Go Launcher was not specialized for Android 4.0, so I stuck with NOVA launcher. BTW you should give that a shot, I didn't like it at first, but I grew into and now its running great. I also run Calk's E4GT 2 v1.6, and it is great. It should come with NOVA launcher if you didn't apply the barebones converter.

You can't transfer screens across different launchers, at least not to my knowledge, the format isn't really standardized. If you don't see the app drawer, hold onto any empty space in the launcher until a menu comes up. Select Nova Actions and the app drawer should be there. You can drag that into the dock so it stays there.
Go feels bloated and slow to me, switch back to regular or tw and its faster and smoother.
I use adw ex because go lags n freezes and doesnt have the draw animations I like

I don't like GO because it looks tacky and it's really bloated. All the widgets just seem to suck battery. ADW EX all the way

Trebuchet or Nova
If you want as close to pure ICS as possible, download the Trebuchet launcher. If you want a few more features, I like Nova Prime. I've tried Go! Launcher several times, and although themes are plentiful and there are some impressive transitions, I always get bored of the fluff and extra menus and choose something more minimalist. In my case, I flashed to ICS because I wanted to have a simpler bloat-free experience, and intentionally adding more seems counterproductive.
If you're rooted, I say why use any rom other than blu kuban? Best experience I've had to date.

Apex to me seems to be the best as of right now and really stable. I even bought the pro key
I use Nova Launcher because it's really smooth, polished, and has a ton of features. I used to use GO but it has sooo much bloatware. Why does a Launcher need to have its own App store, Lockscreens, messages, etc.? GO runs really smooth, but the features and different aspects just make it look unorganized in my opinion and cluttered.
I used Apex launcher (Pro) because I'm running ICS as well and not only is is built for ICS (love the widget drawer!), but damn near has the same customization features of ADW Ex and it's quite speedy and smooth (which I use when I'm on GB).

What launcher are you guys using?

What's going on guys? Seeing as to how this phone is super fast and snappy, I thought I'd create the first "Themes and Apps" thread for the Razr M
Almost as soon as I got the phone, I downloaded and installed Go Launcher, Go sms, go calendar, go task, go note, and go switch because thats what I'm used to and those apps/widgets kick ass...
but I know that the "circles widget" is supposedly really cool and the stock launcher wasn't too bad...so I was wondering, what launchers are you guys having success/fun with? Go launcher runs super fast with all the animations and whatnot, so I can definitely imagine the other launchers probably run great too

A lot of people are either running with apex or nova these days. IMO they're pretty similar except the fact that apex has gestures included for free (which is one of the main reasons people use it) while as nova does not have gestures included. IMO I thought Nova was a little snappier but that's just one guys opinion. I recently switched back to the stock launcher because I missed the circles widget. Plus I might upgrade to jellybean soon but I'm waiting because there was a couple articles online that said the official version might be released this week! Prolly not... but better to have hope than none at all lol.

I'm using Go Launcher also. Not really in love with the circle widgets, so that's no loss for me.
Personally, I'm not into themed icons at all. Or any theming for that matter. Prefer a stock (or close to) look. Using Nova Prime and the JB icon pack.

i know!! its so lame we cant use circles widget on 3rd party launchers.....itd be awesome if someone could create a hacked APK that if we sideloaded could let the widget be accessed by any app
+1 on hacked circle widget not a big fan of it personally, but good too have options
And I'm rooted on JB leak, debloated running blank all black lightning launcher with swipepad
Saves RAM saves battery works great no lock screen either
Nova Prime with JB leak. Pretty much installed that right away when I got the phone but I'm kind of curious to use the stock launcher, however I got Prime on sale and I love the gestures to add another 5 app launches from the dock.

Hi,
I've just gone though the ROMS-CM 10 and Eclipse, but found that CM 10 has really bad speaker problems for incoming calls, which I could not, nor others users could not, work around. Although its the most interesting ROM and quite smooth, and allows for themes from Market. The Eclipse is very smooth and I think built better, but frankly boring. Neither of these allow for the Moto 3 rings, which I noticed nearly everyone in this string has missed or gone back to. Also, I'd hoped to be able to allow for the larger screen in a ROM, where the soft device tools at the bottom are eliminated (using changes in Build.Prop and the app: "Button Savior" as replacement-which is a fabulous app), and while CM 10 allows for their elimination, except for "menu" still the black area remains. Eclipse doesn't allow for this at all. Making the changes in Build.Prop works in CM 10 re: the screen but the speaker issue turned me away after awhile along with losing all notification alerts and signal strength meter. So back to stock moto and found that Nova launcher, with root, allows for, what seems, at least a %60 transparency on the bottom of the screen as well as the elimination of the top notification bar, but the alerts occur and incoming emails can be seen in the Lock screen-works well. So, I'm now back to stock w Nova, although the Moto 3 ring app cannot work on Nova.
Using Action Launcher. I love it.

Stock most of the time but occasionally Nova prime. If it weren't for the ugly Motorola icons I could probably live with the stock launcher all the time. One more clock widget free is certainly close enough to the circle widget to live with (except the text messages not showing up in it) on Nova and I enjoy the options of Nova but the stock launcher performs as good as any and is pretty close to stock android save the left most quick settings I could take or leave.

Apex Launcher..laggy?

I've been using nova for a month or so. Pretty nice, but lacks in features. So i stumbled upon apex and it seemed really rich and nice, especially the previews. The only problem.. is that its really lagggy.. and it uses like 80mb ram + How can i make it not lag like in app drawer and going to previews. I have force gpu thingy in developer options enabled. I have aokp jb rom and trinity 1420mhz cpu and 537 gpu kernel
It's just sluggish in general, on stock and nova. If i rapidly scroll through the appdrawer and the widgets. No problem no lag. But with apex it struggles to load the widget icons when scrolling and lags. And it shows in normal use

holo launcher HD is pretty neat aswell, brings a ton of options. bases on googles original launcher2.
I've been using Nova since I got ICS and I love it. No lag and no complaints. Smooth as butter. Sometimes the CPU governor can cause some lag (like conservative or powersave). Double check to make sure that either of those aren't set.
Apex Launcher has become increasingly laggier recently. I switched over to Nova when it was on sale, and it's been so much smoother for me. Little to no lag or stuttering going through homescreens or when bringing up the app drawer.

Touchwiz or other launcher scroll bug fix?

Just a quick question..hoping for a fix..has anyone expierience a lil jump back stutter when u scroll fast on tw launcher or nova or some others..if anyone can direct me to a fix..would be greatly appreciated..has happened on every rom now it bugs me lol..

I originally had some lag after the JB update, but I went ahead and did a full wipe/clean install and all lag went away.
I think its touch wiz or ICS they jellybean updates cause I had a s2 with ICS then the launchers started to do this screen jitter lag thing where the home screen was bouncing back and forth when trying to scroll fast lol
