-------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I have been rooted for the past 8 hrs.
I went from the original july 5th evo 1.32 to 2.2 froyo rooted.
Now throughout this process - actually awhile back, I deleted some folders (audio, pictures) from the SD.
what I would like to do is to get my SD card back to original factory SD.
all the files/folder and if possible to 1.32 root or unrooted.
Basically I would like to start from scratch and with the knowledge gained, I can optimize and learn more about the system.
is this possible?
I dont care if I lose all my apps and whatnot I have gained. I would like to go as if I have just purchased the phone from day 1.
wow
dude i think the apps will just create a folder on the sd card for you so if you really want to just format the sd card then turn on your phone and use it, i think that is what you are talking about?

Could just format your sd card to wipe it, then do a factory rest on your phone. Don't see how going back to a 1.32 rom is going to matter. When you do that your phone will create the stock folders on the sd card on boot.
However if you wanted to do it your way, I believe you would have to load a 1.42 rom first then run the 1.36 ruu.
All advice in the post is brought to you by an android noob so take it as it is.
Well It seems my HTC.gallery isn't working, I can't get to my wallpaper and some system setting is force closing. Not sure if I deleted important files/folder or advance task killer f'ed it up. Lastly I just got the xda app and it says this was done by pc36100??? Why doesn't it say evo?
Thank u in advance

there is nothing important on the sdcard when you first get it. If youre getting force close (FC) errors, then check with the rom documentation, perhaps you missed a step or perhaps its a know bug. the XDA app goes by the name of the phone (i think) which is the PC36100, just change the signature part in the settings.
If you go to menu -> settings in the xda app you can make your sig say whatever you want. It's currently set to the default sig which displays the model number. This can also be found under your battery if you take it out (if my memory is right).
If you're having problems and want stock just install a stock 2.2 rooted rom. Should solve any of your issues. Like was stated in the post before this, make sure you read the rom install instructions, some you need to do wipes.
Also if you're using the 3d gallery from the n1 (i think) I believe there is an issue with it fc if opened in portrait mode. Open in landscape and then you can rotate to portrait.
it dosent say evo because

MAJOR HELP NEEDED PLEASE.
Basic Info
Im rooted, nand unlocked and was on fresh. I nandroid backup into Ava-FroyoV5 Rom
From there I unmounted my SD and formatted.
Followed by Factory Reset.
Phone boots up, I enter back into Ava-FroyoV5
I connect my phone to the PC to view the SD - as expected everything gone.
I downloaded strong file manager to confirm, it's confirmed.
But how/why did my phone manage to boot than since the pc36img file is gone?
or the Ava-FroyoV5.zip is gone? Why is my phone working and not stuck???
I made sure to view all hidden files in the SD and it shows the following folders:
.android_secure
downloads
LOST.dir
so now my question is - am I STILL ROOTED???
if not, what do I do now?
If I am;
where can I get a 1.32 or 2.2 stock rom? All the 1.32 rom links are dead and I can't seem to find a stock 2.2 rom.
Lastly - let's assume where I am right now, with AVA-froyoV5 - can I download titanium backup and get my stuff back since I had them backed up??? I dont see how but than again I dont see how my phone read ava-froyov5....
bump - changed my last post to something else - urgent help, read above, sorry n thanks
Yes you should still be rooted. Once the pc36img file was flashes to the phone it no longer needs to be on the card. That is also why your phone booted with no problems. You should be able to find a stock rooted 2.2 in the development forum. I'm pretty sure Netarchy and Steelh both have it posted.

Never used Titanium Backup, did you back up to sd card or online? If you backed it up to your sd card and did not back up your card before you formatted it the info is gone. Any alps you had purchased should show up in the Market so you can redownload them.

thanks, was wondering how powerful titanium was, if it was able to bring it back, but it doesnt.
No loss - i wanted to get everything original but rooted and I have achieved that.
But now im still lost in the logic of, how did my phone boot up?
the way im thinking in my head is:
I format my Harddrive, thus removing windows
yet when I turn on my computer, it loads into windows
But I haven't installed windows after the format.
So how did it find Ava-FroyoV5 (bootloader???)
Will it be able to find the Fresh Rom as well?? (I was scared to turn the phone off and thought I got lucky here)

Since Ava was the last time you were running, it was stored on the phone not on the sd card, same as if you were to boot and unrooted phone wo an ad card it would still boot the stock 2.1 or 2.2. The phone always searches for a pc36img file on reboot but doesn't need one to boot into the os.

so than, how do I get access to the internal memory???
Should be able to access it via ADB or possibly through a terminal emulator. What are you trying to do?

exploring atm. just learning how the phone works.
Like a human anatomy.
Most unrooted ppl enjoys how the body works, the structure, bones.
Rooted (SD) are the blood, veins, organs
Internal memory are the inside of organs, the blood cells, etc
so im just learning right now.
Also I'd probably want to delete stuff in there perhaps?
I just got my stock 2.2 root rom which will be my fallback to anything I mess up on.
I guess my end goal is to see how a rom works and how the phone works. Than if possible, to make my own mod (if its easy)
Or to find a rom that has the bare bones.
removed all default images (live, static wallpapers, audio, etc)
removed all apps that can be downloaded on market if needs be.
basically bare bones with the fast/power engines, tires, transmission that makes the phone (car) run.
Leave the styling, seats, weight, etc to me.
Gotcha, check out Cyanogen or one of the AOSP roms if you want the highest possible performance.

Hello guys/gals
I made a huge mistake and i hope someone can help me out.I was using titanium backup and deleted some files by mistake.I believe one was the rom. When rebooting my device it boots then gets stuck on 4g screen.I have rooted my phone using unrevoked 3. When going into recovery i did a reset and finally i can get to my main screen but its blank. The only thing on top of the bar is the time, signal, gps icon and battery icon.I dont know where to download things and what flash means.
I know you guys are experts and i do greatly appreciate the help.By the way im a noob when it coms to rooting, roms, etc. So please put it in English easy way to fix.
Thanks in advance. If you can make it simple for me that would be better.
You can go to the app drawer and launch the market app. Download titanium backup from there. So long you didn't delete your backups, you should be able to restore your apps there. You will still need to manually set up your homescreens.
Get to duh choppa!
Deleted files
How can i access the market if no rom is on the phone. Its a blank screen. If i reboot using volume down and power i can see my sd card and there is titanium backup in there.Does nothing though.
You deleted your home launcher. Reinstall one via adb or flash zip. And next time do a nandroid before hand.
Deleted files
Thank you for helping. But again there is no screen. The only thing i can really do is go into recovery using the volume down button and pressing power.I really am stupid when it comes to how to flash, where to put it,adb shell. That is why i need kindergarten instructions. lol.
Shouldnt you just restore a nandroid..then go from there??
Evo - Myn 2.2 RLS 3 - Clockwork - HBoot .76
Assuming you didn't do a nandroid backup, you are going to need to reflash a rom. What rom you choose is up to you, but without holding the phone in hand, I cant really tell what you deleted. There are a number of things that could have done that. Also, for future reference, a rom is your entire operating system. You can't delete that from titanium backup, but you can delete many important components. Next time try the freeze function in titanium backup to see if removing that component breaks anything.
Did you try flashing the original rom over top of the one on the phone?
If you did a Nandroid before removing, then go into recovery and restore that backup.
What's your ROM?
Which Recovery are you using?
I done a noob thing!
Ok, so i like to think im fairly geeky and know what the hell im doing. but something tells me i fudged up pretty badly. I have Lg optimus T (LG P509) running rooted froyo (2.2). i flashed it to gingerbread 2.3 sometime ago but some errr lots of functions didnt work. i recovered back to stock 2.2. however i deleted and cleaned out my sdcard. heres the problem. LG had an open update via computer. and if its one thing i learned on these forums is to never recieve the OTA or loose root. I was hoping the OTA would be gingerbread 2.3. well it wasnt. it was froyo 2.2.2. and i lost root. i then rerooted using gingerbreak. yes 2.2.2 rooted. then used titanium backup to deleted stock apps and demo games. i somehow deleted my home funtion. on startup my screen is locked in android name. if i ever get pasted it i only have call options. my home button doesnt work. my LG updater on my computer wont reflash/reupdate/restore. in kindergarden terms is there anyway i can manually restore my phone to stock or any rom? and more importantly HOW????? sorry for the essay post
If you have a recovery go to that mount to your PC put a ROM on the root of your sd card and flash it that way make sure you wipe first hope that can help some what.

Epic 4g running bonsai 4.0.1, rooted with CWM3.005 and flashed to cricket 3 months ago. I've been using titanium , superuser, pandora, all programs worked great. I even got most of the sprint crap off my screen.
Last week I was powering down to change batteries but I popped the battery out before the final buzz signaling full shutdown. upon reboot, phone had lost my home setting, icon placement, etc, and had sprint crap back on it. i reloaded the bonsai zip, but I cant restore using titanium because it won't let me access titanium, or pandora, and most of the games and apps I've installed. Also the launcher crashes a lot now...
Do I have to wipe the phone and start over? anyone have a suggestion? thx for reading...

...whats odd is I still have bonsai, and i can still access CWM in recovery mode, so...i'm still rooted, and yet, it won't ACT like its rooted, denies me access to post-root programs. So odin from scratch? (hope this is a lesson for all us impatient noobs....WAIT FOR FINAL LIGHTS OUT! LOL)
Did you try wiping Cache and Dalvik 3x first? If so, sounds like an Odin fix. I would start fresh. One thing I have learned from testing things that aren't released yet is that Odin is actually pretty painless if your phone is recognized by PC. Its 3 min 35 seconds to get back to stock, 2 min for Root. The longest part is the RFS to EXT4 file conversion but its not bad at all and at least you will have a totally clean install.

For some of you out there with a possessed HTC EVO there is a FIX!! it is not a touch sensor problem but a software problem (no it can't be fixed by wiping everything in recovery) it seems that even though we wipe our phones and flash new roms. Data from previous roms seems to be stored in NAND(yes I tried superwipe). I dealt with this annoying screen problem for months and I tried everything and even went to a Sprint repair center. If you have this problem and can't resolve it (I solved it this way) download the latest RUU and flash it .
LATEST EVO RUU(DOWNLOAD LINK):
http://www.filefactory.com/file/cd5....15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_209995_signed.exe
MY wifes EVO seems to be posessed. I actually rooted it yesterday and put on a new ROM and the problem didnt go away. The phone is only like 1 month old and it keeps not necessarily freezing, but the touch buttons at the bottom of the screen rarely work and when they do they dont do what they are supposed to. Where do I get the latest RUU and does this sound like something that the new RUU would help?
Yes it will help a lot.

Back up your apps and data with Titanium Backup, texts with SMS Backup and Restore. After running the RUU, you can simply reflash recovery via PC36IMG.zip through hboot and flash a new rom.
Whether or not this will actually work for you or not, I don't know. I would think wiping system & boot would get whatever issues that wiping data doesn't, but I have never experienced the issue.
Make a nandroid backup first, and if the RUU doesn't fix the problem just flash your recovery and restore the backup. If it does work, don't restore the backup, start fresh. Good luck!

I would have returned the phone back to sprint before rooting since it could be a hw issue.

Apparently its a pretty common issue. Her first EVO kept going wierd crap too. At this point she cant wait till her contract is up so she can switch to Tmobile like me and get the Hercules. Right now the only advantage her phone has is higher MP Camera and FFC. My phone is faster, better screen, better service, and smaller and lighter and i have a rooted and ROMd vibrant. Ive heard a lot of good about the EVO but at this point my Vibrant buries it. It seems to me like if this were a software issue then rooting it and putting on a new rom after the wipe would have solved it. Ill have to see if I can convince the wife to let me redo everything again even tho a lot of what I have read says that this new software version doesnt fix this issue. But I do see that it inscreases speed and battery life and that would be nice! Thanks for all the help!
What the heck is a ruu? In need of a super-developer!
Noob here (obviously from my title). I have the possessed evo issue (HTC Evo 4G Design) but don't understand the language on how to fix ('flash the ruu'). Anyone up for making this process idiot-proof? I use my phone for business so it would be a disaster if I screwed it up and had to wait for a new phone. It's only about 14 months old. : (
I'm suddenly having storage issues with every ROM that I flash after running a ROM with some script that isn't widely used.
First I'll give you a brief idea of my problem. I"m running out of storage and get notifications from the market saying as much after I download and reasonable amount of apps. The thing is... It show's I have used 738MB of ext4 out of 1.5 so that isn't the issue. The problem is internal memory. My phone won't move dalvik cache for some reason. When I run any ROM with a2sd or m2sd they both say that there is a problem and leave the dalvik cache where it is.
I think my internal folders are jacked up from 40ad2sdx or a zip that was used to clear memory before the ROM. There was a ext4 superwipe cleaner to load before the ROM. I did that without researching first. When I did go looking for the thread about it, it plainly said that it was for one phone only, and it wasn't my phone. I believe it was the Galaxy S3, but I can't be certain. It was a week ago. It was advised not to use it on any other phone because part of what it did was reset the internal folders. Does this mean I can now flash a ROM for the galaxy s3? Lol Just kidding.... Seriously, the second part is all my speculation and I have been wrong many times concerning android. Will somebody help me get my phone back in oem condition please?
Okay, I'm not even sure what you did here, because not knowing the script, anything could have happened.
Try wiping everything and flashing stock rooted here, then go from there with other roms after that.
If that doesn't work. Here's what I would do. It might be a major pain, but it is almost a surefire fix.
Unroot and return to stock, then root again.
[UNROOT]
[ROOT]
For future reference, NEVER flash anything that is meant for another device. (Obviously, if it's a port then you're ok.)
ALSO EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Backup your SD card, and wipe that puppy clean!! Only partition using Amon-RA recovery, otherwise it will screw you up quite often. I repeat, if you do not have the partition done correctly, then odds are that A2SD or equivalent won't work.

I did the wipe and flash to stock earlier today, then flashed the Pac man ROM but the issue is still there. I had looked at unrooting my phone earlier today also. I'm glad to read this because it lets me know that I do have some idea of what to do. Thanks for the reply. I'll post here again with the results. Check back soon.
EDIT----> Man, my phone is okay. I loaded up a fairly recent ROM by Tronit, and it worked fine. It was the ROMs. Just to be sure, I went back to the last two ROMs just to see, and they did the same thing again. Now I'm on the AOKP Unnoffical and it's working just fine. The a2sd is working perfectly like it should, and my dalvik cache is moving to ext4. It was just coincidental that the last three ROM's I loaded all have issue with the a2sd. It's funny how nobody else see's problems but me. I looked in the bin file of one of them and it's missing part of the a2sd file. The other two have weird init.d files that I don't know anything about. I'm assuming the a2sd problem is related to that. It's funny how I see lots of problems, and report them, but I get blown off by some people as a noob who is making mistakes. I am a noob, and I do make mistakes, but I know some of my theories about problems are correct...... I gotta get me some respect by compiling my own ROMs.
Status update..... My phone is jacked up for sure. It does work with the AOKP Unofficial by Tronit, but this morning when I cleared my cache with Smelkus Recovery, it had major problems with almost every app. Clearing the cache in recovery is something I've done with every ROM and this has never happened. I uninstalled all the apps and reinstalled them. Got them working again. Everything seemed to be okay. However, when I cleared my cache with Android Tuner, again it ruined every app. I've used android tuner every day for two months to clear the cache and never had problems like this. Something is very wrong.

Long story short, I flashed something made for another phone. I can't explain why I did this without taking up lots of pages, and it doesn't even matter really. Lets just focus on the solution. Here is the link. I flashed both of the zips in the link.

So I think my permissions for the files on my phone are out of whack. Is that what I"m reading is the possible outcome of flashing these if your phone is not the one listed? Please post your thoughts. I need them.

I did that. Both with Smelkus, and Mini partition wizard. Same problems. I just tried to fix permissions with smelkus 4.3 on the AOKP Unofficial ROM and it took a minute for it to do it's thing. The line of dots was two full rows. So when It loaded back up, I suddenly see the same disk Icon in my notification bar, and now this ROM says it it out of memory. Man, it was working fine. I had twenty more apps on it too and I uninstalled them. It was working fine then, so with twenty less apps, it shouldn't suddenly say "Running out of Storage space."
I have told you this already: Please do not flash things meant for other phones, it could mess up. If it's meant for another device, it might screw yours up. To stay on the safe side: If it's not generic (works for every Android phone) or phone specific (exclusive to the Evo 4G) then don't flash it.

I flashed this about a eek ago, when I was looking for the ext4 wipe. I thought it was the same thing as another zip despite what it said. Stupid... I know. I think this may be the cause of my problems, but I can't be sure. I don't know at all really. Just speculations. I reflashed the CWM touch and used to flash a stock ROM. Gonna try that again. I ran the test on CWM touch and it said that the
/sys/class/android_usb/android0 was missing and unable to perform the test. Can this be the cause of my problems?
Don't beat yourself up man, it was an honest mistake, just learn from it and you'll be alright.
Now the optimal recovery for this device would be the Amon-RA recovery, and I recommend redoing what I said in my first post once you have Amon-RA installed. Amon-RA is an awesome recovery, and it's super easy to install. Check out this easy-to-follow video on how to install by clicking here.
Do that, then do what I said in the previous posts. Let me know what happens, because I'm almost certain this should work.

As I stated in my pm give me a day or so till I get back home and I will check into a fix for you. Only don't expect any one on one help. If the fix works cool if not I will dig further. TNN strives to help with any issue no matter who is at fault. I will look at the wipe script you flashed and see if it can be undone. Just be prepared of the possibility that your phone may never work correctly again.

I was finally able to get my phone straightened out. I loaded up a stock ROM then decided to use my SD Maid to look around. I found a file with completely different dates on it, but it wouldn't let me remove it. I ended up copying everything else in the subfolder and then deleted the parent folder. Then added everything else back. Wah lah.... magic. I don't know what that file was or where it came from but it was killing my internal memory. I'm wondering how it stayed from ROM to ROM. I dunno, but it's gone, and the Pacman ROM is lovely now. BOOM!!!!

Whatever I did only fixed part of the issue. I'm left with in a situation where every time I go into recovery my downloaded apps stop working. It is cutting part of them off whether I clear cache or not. All I have to do is power off into recovery, and when I reboot, all of my downloaded apps begin giving messages that "Unfortuately such ans such has stopped." My phone becomes inoperable. The only way I can keep it working is to send a new launcher to my phone from the market, let it install, then open it up and uninstall all the downloaded apps. I'm pretty sure this is an easy fix for someone like you Mancuso. I have a logcat and it show LOTS of errors that I have never seen before on any of my other logcats. What are my options? Tell me what to do to get my phone back to absolute OEM and then I'll reroot. UNLESS you know of some fix.
I've supplied a logcat from Catlog if you or anybody else wants to have a look. I'd really appreciate some help here. I love my Evo and I love learning this stuff. If somebody can help me positively identify the problem, I can most likely figure it out from there. Please give me your suggestions here. I'm nothing without some guidance on this. It's way out of my scope.
I've included a link to the ext4 script wipe that I used. How I got to this page, I do not know. However, I ran it because this page said it COULD POSSIBLY work on other phones despite the fact that it was made for another phone.

And I flashed both zips from the thread that the story links users to. Here is the link for the two zips.

I'm not sure this is the problem. I'll try to find the Vold.fstat thread that I tried on my own before you came up with the 40ad2sdx solution for the MIUI ROM.
This is the memory fix I tried as mentioned above.
