Many can, but for best purposes, why? You can have a lovely rooted, stock version that I believe they just updated. Otherwise look at qbking's vidoes on Odin/Heimdall to stock. No real reason to, unless you plan to sell or repair it.
When was this update?
And lately i havent been receiving any texts and was worried that it may have something to do with being rooted? idk..
and i know nothing about rooting/unrooting so when the day comes and i have to use my warrenty, id like to know how to unroot it.

Check the dev section, but not receiving texts may be an issue way easier than going back to stock. Also, be sure to state anything you've played with that makes you think it could be attached to s/u status. Lots of people will be happy to walk you through a variety of things that won't make you lose all your data.
honestly i love the whole rooted idea. I rooted my phone to use a screenshot app..but i feel like i can do more with it...the thing is..idk how. I wish i can get themes on my phone but everything seems so complicated. I probably wont unroot now...but since we're both here, any ideas on how to add themes to my phone? and maybe even reset to the default theme.

Did you flash a Rom after you rooted? What instructions did you go by? Be aware, it's 12:33 here and your questions may get differred to everyone else until morning. If you're on certain main Roms, you might be able to easily flash to either a new Rom or theme with little effort. This is where it can get tricky though and retracing your steps out loud will help people walk you to what you need until you get more acclimated to searching and "shopping" for what you what in here. remember your thanks, donations and verbal support, people like to help here
i did nothing after rooting. All i did was use 1 click root and enjoy the apps. I also know nothing about ROM or any other terms :/

Here is a link with instructions on how to unroot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032
but I don't think you should. There are plenty of good roms that you can use to make your phone better than a stock phone.

Nothing is complicated about putting ROMs or Themes on your phone Its developing them that is Complicated!
Follow the link in my sig to qbkings videos and you will be wondering why you thought it was complicated to begin with!
And here is a good link to read about all the terms and what not that you have no idea about

As long as you have a backup of your data on your card, your phone will live on as it did when you last clicked the wrong button. Bricking is everyone's biggest fear, but mostly because it's an inconvenience not a sentence.

The Root is right. The word "brick" is used too much. I can only remember a couple of people actually bricking a phone thus making it useless. 95% of the problems can be fixed with Odin. I didn't know a damn thing 6 months ago. I had to Google "rooting your phone." Now I test ROMs,themes, and kernels for developers. I could never go back to stock now. Rooting really frees the phone to make it your own. Flashing ROM's, themes, and kernels is easy and if you have any questions, there are people like me that are glad to help. Also, qbking makes great videos if you are a visual learner or want to see the process before you do it.

Anyone got a root going for the new straight talk (verizon) Samsung Proclaim S720C ?
This will be great for me an affordable phone on straight talk with verizon coverage all I need is root
Has anyone tried the one clikc root fo this phone? I havnt been active on the site for close to 2 years so did some back reading and have seen stuff on the one clikc root but hate to be the first to try it as im not the most tech savy here
Im wanting this phone too! Im just trying to find official word if its verizon. Im sure theres a root for the phone somewhere its an old droid.
It is Verizon for sure I got my daughter one and my father one as well since verizon is the only carrier who gets service where my father lives except US cellular. The phone works great.
In the rural area we are in you have slim pickings as to what carrier has good service in certain areas.
Verizon has great coverage in this area but their contract phones are a bit pricey for my father and daughter's usage. But to get Verizon coverage on an android pre paid with straight talk is just a win/win for me. The only thing is that I really would like to root these phones so that they can use wifi tehtering in a pinch.
Its not going to be very often but sure is handy when you need it.
at the moment I have them set up for USB tethered sharing for internet when they have to have it mobile.
Id be willing to donate if someone takes up the challenge of rooting the Proclaim/illusion
I'm not currently a developer, but between the Proclaim and the Illusion I would think there's enough of an audience to develop something for these phones. The user group should be rather large.
I got it! But I hope we can get a trusted root. I'm afraid the straight talk software will go buggy if I root it. And I want to go over to ice cream.
I got one too - the proclaim and looking for a root. Please help XDA developers!

Do you have problems since you rooted when connecting the phone to your computer via USB? I've read there are problems with that once root is performed based on the link I provided above.

Figured out how to get the MSL code!
So after spending too much time at this I happened over an interesting method.. and that was to simply use the free LauncherPro and create a shortcut on the main screen for com.android.hiddenmenu.advanced. You simply install LauncherPro and hold down on the main screen to create a shortcut then go into Activities and scroll down to com.android.hiddenmenu and there are a ton of options there. A lot of them will not actually open up even when you try this method but advanced will open and ask for a SPC code and when it fails aLogCat will log the correct code!!
So to sum it up
1. Download LauncherPro
2. Download alogcat & use msl filter
3. Create a shortcut/activities
4. com.android.hiddenmenu.advanced
5. open the shortcut and type in a bad SPC
6. Success you have now logged your SPC in alogcat.
Nm.. I went ahead and took a look but it does not appear like the hiddenmenu contains any references to the "secret code(s)" and I know creating a shortcut to ETS Channel fails.. so maybe it is the hiddenmenu.apk? Otherwise I am not sure how to fix it if the phone is lacking in some way.
delete?
I installed eclipse 4.1.1, it has superuser in it. Tibu works, but when I try to use trickster mod, it says I don't have root access. I used root checker, and sure enough it says I don't have root access on my phone. What's going on with that? What can I do?
I'm not sure of the technicalities causing your issues.
But I can recommend flashing SuperSU in ClockworkMod after installing TricksterMod. Also make a backup beforehand.

Just tried that, didn't work. I don't understand how I don't have root access but one app that required it works and another doesn't.
tried to re-root the phone using the nexus toolkit, no go either. tibu still works but not trickster.
dont use a toolkit. srsly, since you dont know what the hell you're doing.

Try updating the su binaries from super su app... That's worked for me before. If that doesn't work try flashing an updated rom since they all have su built in.

Thank warner. I don't know why some people think if you own a certain phone you should know right away how to do everything the "right" way. If you shouldn't use the toolkit, then take it off the forum. Otherwise people are going to use it like me.

just because you find a tool on the table doesn't mean you should take an engine apart without any knowledge before hand.
Some things to search before rooting:
1. What does "root" mean and what does it change?
2. Why do I 'need' root?
3. Differences between soft and hard bricks and how to recover from them.
4. What is and how to use ADB.
5. an extra but, if you were to make this phone unrecoverable or unusable for a degree of time, is this a possibility you can accept? (i ask this because ive worked with those that brick their phone they use for work and then they rush through trying to fix it and make it worse).
We aren't trying to be mean or chase away new users, it's always a great thing when people learn to use their phones. The only thing that can cause bitterness is when users buy a phone and come home and root it because they heard thats what you do with android phones and how to get cool stuff or free apps. Im not saying that is you, likely it isn't from what i've read.
Bottom line, read and learn as much as you can because there is no such thing as too much knowledge. There is nothing more satisfying than figuring out the problem yourself and fixing it instead of 'calling tech support for help' on xda.
I do understand what you're saying. I'm not trying to come off as cocky or I know it all but I have been doing these things with android for a while and do understand how some things work and how to do them. This whole unlocked phone is new to me, and I've never been completely comfortable or able to use fast boot methods which I know is the right way to do most things. I try to learn things about these phones on a daily basis which is why I ask questions and try new things all the time. I appreciate what you have said and am trying to learn how to do things properly, this is just new to me and I appreciate people who have patience to help people like me out.

I do agree that learning as much as we can and being able to fix a problem ourselves without asking for help is extremely satisfying. At the same time though this is the q&a forum and he did try to fix the problem himself through the use of a toolkit, which I agree cuts out a lot of the learning that can be achieved through using fastboot and adb. I think in this forum especially it is better to try to help and make constructive comments than to be rude and post a reply that doesn't help and could possibly chase off a newcomer to modding their device. I appreciate your comment though trying to explain the benefits of learning yourself in a respectful way.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Exactly. I'm not asking anyone to come to my house and fix my phone. But it helps when someone explains what I'm doing wrong and how I can fix my errors in what I'm doing. Thanks for your help everyone who did but I'm going to move on and learn from this experience.
Yes it's a Q&A, but this is a question that asked a lot.
A little bit of reading tell you how to use the forum properly, and you probably find the answer already solved.
Toolkits have there place & for newbies i guess it's the fastest way to get it done, but if you read through the Q's you will find most rooting issues are related to the use of toolkits. Great if they work, but as soon as there is an issue, users are left in the situation you are in now.
efrant & jubakuba have guides in the Q&A section on unlocking, rooting and installing roms with the use of fastboot/adb, all the commands are given.
Good luck
If root is not working as it should, just re-flash the superuser package again. See here.
It's likely an issue with out-dated files or with permissions.
if you use a toolkit, you're on your own - since neither you or us know what happened. it's your fault, for rushing things.
google won't help you either. that's why we say things like that.
Ok, got it. Thanks. Bye.

Hey I'm a seasoned user here and I'm having the exact same problem with Trickster Mod... you fanboys need to kick it back a notch and try to help someone once in awhile.
Thanks for the info. For now I moved on to Epic V5, maybe when Nitro comes out with the 16 update I'll try it again, cause I really do like that dark eclipse Rom.
Hello all,
Long time lurker, just wanted to share an issue I had.
I've flashed nearly every ROM that is out there since I got my SGS3 and have never had any GPS issues, however this weekend I used it without a problem but Tuesday all of a sudden turning it on and off still produced nothing...not even the increased battery drain from having GPS on.
Here's what I did in hopes that it can help someone or at least give some knowledge as there wasn't a lot out there when I searched:
1.) Restored a previous Nandroid that I knew had a working GPS --- Result = FAIL
2.) Searched XDA and Google...found a video with some USSD codes for the dialer, etc.. ---- Result = FAIL
3.) Pulled battery and sim card, etc... --- Result = FAIL
4.) Flashed Wicked as I know that is a stable and highly used ROM. Everything great but still no GPS. ---- Result = FAIL
5.) Found a suggestion about clearing cache in google framework, Maps and uninstalling Maps updates. Result = FAIL
**however Play Store wouldn't let me update Maps when I rebooted as it said it wasn't compatible with my phone. No clue why.
6.) Finally I decided to do Triangle Away and Chainfires unrooting procedure to get back to unrooted stock. ---Result = SUCCESS!
Not sure what about it made GPS come back, however the next step will of course be to root again and see if there are any issues.
Hope this helps someone who ends up in my situation. Feel free to PM if you need more details.
Thanks to all
Edit: Just as an FYI -- when I rooted again, GPS was still back and I've had no issues since.
Thanks man, I like threads like these because you never know when you may need them. Same issue for me. On CM10 ROMs,I have trouble locking onto GPS, and the fix for me has been downloading GPS test and running that before using something like navigation.it's a minor inconvenience but it works great
Overall, if you have something borked, no matter what rom you use... no matter how many times you wipe... odin back to stock, should fix it always.

True, but honestly, that doesn't always work. I have a second SGS3 Pebble Blue 32GB, and it won't play nice with Lean Kernel/Ktoonz, unless it's the touchwiz based kernels, whereas my white 16GB runs all of them flawlessly. They were rooted and booted the same way, and they both have the same GPS issue.
Out of curiosity, what's the chainfire way of going back to stock?
Also, do we have any guides here/on youtube that detail how to odin back to stock. I'm gonna give it a go on the blue one again/cross my fingers hoping I made a mistake, hence why I want a guide lol! *Searches*
thanks for the info jpk17!

I love this thing!
The only time my gps was ever messed up was when i used a sprint leak JB rom and had the gps turned off. Flashed a couple roms after no gps whatsoever. Odin'ed with 2 or 3 different versions and still couldnt get the gps back.
Finally I flashed another JB rom based on the sprint leak and turned GPS back on and everything started working again. Lesson learned on using sprint leaks lol.
Had op's problem myself before, and full wiping and Odin'ing back to stock actually didn't work.. what did work though was after full unroot, doing tmo ota update.
Who knows, this info could help someone out as well..

What Im seeing is that the little Icon in the upper status bar never shows. Like ether it doesnt even see a SAT, or the receiver in my phone isnt even turning on.
If i cant figure out, i guess ill go back to Tmo....

What I did was go to a stock ics based Rom then triangle away and then I followed the site that op posted. The download was ridiculously slow. Took like an hour for 690mb. That should do the trick. Do it in that order

HAHA funny, i actually did it EXACTLY like that. I tried a stock ICS ROM from wildchild and nothing. Then Triangle away, ODIN flash to stock with un root and factory reset and nothing.
If i wasnt getting lock, that would be different. But im not getting the little Icon in top left corner.
I have a friend with a Stock Sprint phone and his works in same room.
Thanks

I went to wild child stock just before i unrooted and went to Stock Tmo form the guide above. I didnt think that would have made a difference.
Im not gonna root and go to store, so ill go to store and see what they say.
The reason i went to the wildchild stock based ICS rom was hope that I wouldnt have to unroot....
Thanks.
EDIT>>> Just did the OTA from Tmo and back .. Yes GPS back,
Thanks minigame
So I got my phone about a week ago.. I rooted the phone right away because I wanted root options, but honestly, I didn't feel the need to put a rom on it.
With my GS2, I'll be honest, while I noticed many great things with great roms, there was always 1 things that never worked.. Wifi calling, weak gps signal, gps and bluetooth at the same time..
Whatever it was, there was always something..
While the wicked rom looks great, I'm worried about it, so I think I wanna stay stock (unless someone convinces me otherwise )
So, my "What do I do comment" is this.
After I rooted I downloaded someones .apk file that apparently removes bloatware to the stock phone.

14th post.
I'm not sure what was removed, but the bottom line, some things are not working with my phone now.. For example, whenever I try any of the air gestures like air jump/browse/move and so on, they simply don't work anymore, when I go to click try, I get a settings has stopped error.
While I wasn't too worried before, today I went to make a .gif with the camera, and maybe some of you think its cheesy I like that option and feature.. Well, that also gives me an error after I take the 5 second or whatever time, .gif.
I get an error.
So here I am.. wondering what to do, how would I even be able to go back to stock? is it possible ?? Should I man up and go with the wicked rom?? I just feel once you rom that's it, no matter what you're asking for other issues popping up.. While I appreciate all the hard work done by our modders, are they really more talented then the engineers at Samsung?? maybe they are?
You could flash a custom ROM or you could Odin flash a stock tar file to get you back to stock.
Any of the TW base ROM will give you Wi-Fi calling.

thanks!!
I was hoping someone would push me towards a rom
If I went with a rom, lets say I don't like it, could I follow that post ??
and go back to stock as if I never did a thing?
You could. Or you could flash a different rom.

Thanks. I've been posting more times than I can remember, long posts from memory, in response to many in the same situation. Now I'll just post this link
As I always say, but sometime don't practice, K.I.S.S.
thanks all.. Thanks for the link, I just put wicked rom on and so far this rom seems to be trouble free (knocking on wood)
I'll keep this link in mind just "in case"
