unlockroot.com the new solution to hacking Desire HD? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

http://unlockroot.com/
I saw this site by accident and the site says the tool supports rooting the Desire HD.
maybe it works like super one click
downloading it right now to test it, because I can't root my phone using AAHK!
feedback later.
edit:
wow, this tool definitely rooted my phone, I now have superuser on my phone and busy box tell me I'm rooted!
process was a breeze much like "super one click"
spent 6-10 minutes
further updates later.
I checked HBOOT and I still have S-ON (guess I still can;t flash roms right?

You can still flash ROMs, you just have an extra step. It sounds like it roots it like HTCDev.
Flash the rom like usual, then come back to the bootloader, plug into the PC, pull boot.img from the ROM zip, open Command Prompt to the folder where fastboot is, and type 'fastboot flash boot boot.img'

History of my Desire HD
Hi I'll be telling you exactly about my device, and maybe you guys have inputs on how I can flash a custom ROM on this.
I just need a little more info/Push/
1. I bought this phone about a week ago from an online buying site
2. the phone was branded ( I can see the logo of "3 network logo" every boot up)
3. I have a general Idea on how to flash custom Roms ( I have had 6 android phones so far, all of them rooted and flashed with custom roms)
4. So I immediately wanted to root and flash this phone and found out about AAHK, which downgraded my phone from Android 2.3.5 down to 2.3.3, but cant seem to root my phone. It did however, flashed clockworkmod unto it (v5.0.27) and busybox was installed. The phone also became unbranded, but still I have S-ON
5. to root my phone I used the tool form www.unlockroot.com. Superuser was installed. Still I have S-ON
I have been reading for the past week and I found out I can't install a custom ROM if I have an S-ON
So to have my S-OFF I have been reading this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
the problem is I'm not sure if this device was shipped with gingerbread or froyo. Is there a way to find out?
here are some details as well
Android version: 2.3.3
HTC sense: 2.1
Kernel : 2.6.35.10-gd2564fb, [email protected]#1

my reasons for rooting/flashing custom ROM
1. the Phone's proximity sensor is not working well si i wanted to flash another ROM with a different kernel since my current kernel seems unsupported by the DHD proxomity sensor re-calibration tool. I didn't expect DHD would have this problem before buying
2.Also I have an addiction of flashing ROMS and trying new stuff
can you guys point me to the right direction?

I also have a question, can I flash a kernel by HTC even if I have S-On?

I have the same '3' phone and have a similar problem (But caused by HTCDev - Still have S-ON but phone is rooted). You say that I can flash as per normal and then fastboot the rom.img - I have no problem doing this but many of the custom ROMs I have tried did not load - they got stuck on the developers splash screen and even if left the phone for over 30 mins the ROM did not move forward.
Are there any ways to get through this? So far the only ROMS that I have managed to load ate PrimoS and Virtuous infinity - However with both of these I cannot get the camera or wifi to work - Even using the patches available here.
Any help appreciated

But are you running 2.3.5 by "3"? I downgraded mine to 2.3.3 using AAHK. And after that I can no longer try AAHK, it says radio download failed.
I wannna flash a custom ROM! sense is not that slow but not fast either!

i'll bump this one up

attn1's AAHK is still out there. He's just left XDA. It doesn't take much to find him out there, and his kit is still as good as usual.

his kit works still, you just ahve to contact him on the irc channel that i dont know the adress for

It doesn't work for all I think, lots of post here about unable to root their phones, I've tried it countless of times on 2 laptops both doesn't have HTC sync nor itunes and Anti virus or firewalls were disabled.
I was able to downgrade using AAHK but I can't root or S-off my phone
so I used www.unlockroot.com to root my phone but I'm still S-ON

problem solved thanks to attn1!
he maybe a douche sometimes but he's a good egg
thanks attn1!

Help reverting to stock rom

First off I've browsed the forums and cannot find an answer to my question. I know there are similar posts but not entirely answering my question.
Originally my HTC desire was running on official firmware on orange UK. Then I decided to root. I installed LeeDroid and then recently switched to MIUI. All I want to know is if I can revert back to how it originally was when I first got the phone. I cannot find anywhere an orange UK ruu. Is there a different one I can safely use and how do I do it?
All I want is all the rooting stuff removed not necessarily meaning I want all of the orange branding and everything back how it was
I want to know this because soon I am selling my phone and want it to be pretty much how it should be.
I am getting the phone unlocked to work on any network as the recipient of the phone is using a different network hence me not being bothered about the orange branding
Any help would be absolutely brill.
Thanks in advance
Well If you want the Orange Branded stuff back, then you need an Orange Official RUU. But I can't help you where to find it.
The HTCdev.com 2.3.3 RUU still comes with warranty so flash that to unroot. There are no Orange RUU's
Do i just flash as i would a custom rom hence going into recovery and 'install zip from SD card'? Is it really that simple? Does that completely make it like it was never rooted?
No its an .exe you run from windows. Connectng the phone via USB. If you are not s-off with a hboot version of 6.x, it re-writes everything. if you HAVE got the custom hboot, you need to flash the alpharev downgare.img hboot first.
Thank you, I will try this in the afternoon, if I fail be expecting to hear back from me cheers again mate
I am currently running AlphaRev

However, when I try to enter recovery, I get a black screen with a picture of a phone with a red cross over it.
I am trying to revert to the stock bootloader to cure the recovery problem as I have already tried re-flashing CM7 but still get the same problem.
I tried to flash downgrade.img followed by the stock.img using Android Flasher but I can't get it to work.
Any suggestions?
You just need to fastboot flash the recovery.img
Have a read of my adb and fastboot faq in my signature. You dont need to read the adb stuff as it is not relevant

Awesome!
Android Flasher kept becoming non-responsive so I followed your instructions to flash via CMD. Now got CWM installed and working
cool. I prefer command line over the GUI myself anyway. Its more resiliant / less to go wrong.
To get rid of root simply install the latest, official RUU which can be found in the Dev Forums

I tried downloading and installing 'HTC_Desire_Android_2.3_Upgrade' from the website you gave to me but had no success. the program just keeps saying connection error. I've tried everything but can only get the phone to connect to my PC in data storage mode?? seems to be a common problem with the MIUI rom.
If somebody could please help me step by step I will be so grateful. Getting kinda desperate now. Cheers

Have you tried this method?
This is a pretty good step-by-step guide to installing the HTC standard 2.3.3 Click me.
You can download the RUU for this here: Click me. It is the download at the top of the page.
Simply put your phone into fastboot (power on whilst holding the "back" button), plug your phone in, run the RUU programme and done!
Hope that helps.

[Q] htcdev rooting help

Hi,
I used HTCDev to root my DHD, installed ClockworkMod Recovery, and used it to install a custom ROM.
I used fastboot to flash the boot.img file, and now the phone will boot once, and work well, but as soon as i reboot it it freezes at the HTC logo screen (white background, HTC logo, before it shows the "quietly brilliant" tagline.)
I have to reflash the boot.img to get it working again.
If I relock the firmware as per HTCdev instructions, i also hangs at the logo screen, even at first boot.

I have tried flashing and older hboot, but it returns a signature error

Use AAHK, advanced ace hack kit to root. You can findbit in the dev section.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Have searched this forum since 2 days now, but was not able to find answer, instead i found different statements making me even more unsecure, what happened, and what are my next steps. So here is my story:
Have used Unlock-Bootloader procedure on HTCDEV, which worked fine. My goal was to use apps like T-Backup or Antitheft-security-software which need root-access to enable all functionality. But have learned now that i am still not rooted, still on S-ON.
Have also lost my German language on the phone ! With going through a "restore factory setting" i get german menu at the beginning, but at that point where i can select a language i only get the selection of English or Greece.
So now i am looking, which next steps i do have to do in order to get root access. I do not want to mod... i only want to have root-access to some apps. But unfortunately all or some tools state that they should only be used with the phone in original status, not modified. Some tools clearly state "Do not use if you already used HTCDEV unlock".
I would be really glad, if somebody out there would spend a few minutes in order to throw some light into my weekend
Use HTC Bootloader to lock the phone again. It should inform you once complete. Don't ever use it again.
Download Advanced Ace Hack Kit (AAHK) from the development section and CAREFULLY follow instructions. The AAHK will then root your phone and give you the ability to flash any ROM you want. It will also preserve your original ROM so iI suggest a backup.
You can use AAHK to go back to stock by flashing a stock RUU. Keep in mind that flashing a Froyo RUU to a Gingerbread shipped phone WILL result in you having major issues. Hope this helps a bit.
Enjoy
EDIT: I have just realized I have written this same exact thing at least 10 times so if you or anyone else comes back with the same issue, I will no longer be replying. Everything there is to know about root, radio s off and flashing custom ROM can be found right here by simply using search and gliding through forums.

[solved] hboot 0.75 --> GB RUU --> bootloop @ rom | stick it in the freezer!

hi
on friday I got a desire which belonged to a friend of mine and now through me becomes the phone of another friend. the phone was already rooted (I was the one who did it initially too) but that was a long time ago and there was no custom recovery (I think we used some kind of tethered-recovery) or anything like that on the phone. so I decided to correct that. my target was custom recovery, root, new rom, s-off preferably data++
unrevoked and revolutionary did of course not work for me so I decided to just flash the GB RUU basically like described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626405
and that worked pretty good but now the phone is stuck in a bootloop which resets the phone right after starting the rom. I already tried reflashing the ruu (via goldcard just to be safe, though I am pretty sure I have the correct one (tmobile DE branded, t-mob101), that however did not change anything.
so now I don't really know what to do, please help me
thanks in advance
what's the hboot info?
thaaanks a lot. in the german forum so far noone has been repyling at all since yesterday.
fastboot and recovery (though stock) works btw.

yeah recovery isn't gonna help..
Think you can only try the 2.3 RUU again.. otherwise you can't do much more.
------
If that doesn't work (after a couple of tries).. then the process is to:
- find an XTC Clip (they're expensive, not worth buying, look into whether some phone repair shops have them)
- S-OFF the phone with the xtc clip
- Download an alpharev stock bootloader pb99img (rename it to pb99img), put it on your sd-card and update it from hboot
- Do a full wipe in fastboot
- flash recovery
- flash a rom
then I have a serious problem. apart from trying over and over again I have no choice? because I as mentioned I already tried it twice.
could the radio be a problem because the point where the phone reboots should be the moment when it normally asks for the sim pin?
can you please point me to the absolut right RUU file? I just want to be cautious.
starting the ruu installer, getting the rom.zip file (which seems to contain nothing if I open it on the computer?), renaming it to PB99IMG.zip putting it onto the goldcard and starting into fastboot is the right way?

Ohh so it boots? If it does, boot it without inserting the sim, enable USB debugging, run revolutionary to S-OFF, flash recovery, backup the ROM, do a full wipe and flash a custom ROM.. see what happens then.
sorry if it was that easy I would have done that a long time ago ^^°
the phone also reboots if there is no sim inserted.
can I maybe flash some other RUU? another GB version, WWE instead of tmob UK/DE or even Froyo?) even newer stuff? I read something about a 1.03 hboot somewhere? as long as I get this running again I am pretty much willing to do anything. however I still wonder why this is happening.
I am dieing a little bit here, I'm so stupid
is it possible that I really messed up badly here:
http://www.your-android.de/htc-desire-gingerbread-upgrade-steht-zum-download-bereit

Please note that the following regional variants are not compatible with this upgrade: Germany (Telekom Deutschland), North America, South Korea and Japan."
so still.. why is exactly is not working and how can I fix it...
no there is only 1 GB RUU.. try installing it from the .exe (boot into fastboot, plug it in, run RUU.exe).. see what happens then
i didnt know you could install RUUs from fastboot.
update worked perfectly like before but still reboots after 1 second in the rom.

Umm nah, just when it boots, is it really hot? i.e. hotter than you would expect it to be...
Try sticking it in the freezer for 15 minutes in a plastic bag, then try turning it on again..
what the f? oookay one quick question before however: if I can flash the ruu from fastboot can I use revolutionary from fastboot too? (cause if revolutionary works all problems are solved, I did not dare to try that since the new hboot came with the weird gb update)
I would not say it gets any hotter than usual however freezer it is

no, can only use revolutionary when booted into the ROM unfortunately
If you got hold of an XTC clip as mentioned before however...
The freezer thing? some Deisre's have faced hardware faults before causing them to overheat, reboot all the time etc. if you tried to use a RUU it would always fail.. sticking it in the freezer helped.. for a few minutes.. so trying to see whether this is the problem.

But for now yes, S-OFF the phone with revolutionary and flash a custom recovery, then backup, do a full wipe (boot, system, data, cache, dalvik) and flash a custom ROM. Cyanogenmod is a good place to start (need to flash google apps after flashing CM though)

[Q] HTC Wildfire S (marvelc) - Bricked need a little assistance

Ok so I believe I bricked my phone. Currently all it does is boot to the HTC quietly brilliant screen, blink, then HTC quietly brilliant over and over forever. I am able to enter the Hboot no problem, but Recovery and Factory Reset don't help the problem.
Just so you know what I've done:
1) Started with the intention of rooting: Which now seems impossible due to me updating to the 2012 system update released before I realized it makes all the rooting instruction impossible to do.
2) I was able to UNLOCK the Hboot but the program that you normally run before hand would not work, so I did it all manually and successfully.

Apr 17 2012, 18:21:30 - I'm assuming this is the line that ruined rooting for me.
3) Tried and read every single program/walkthrough out there nothing works at all.
4) Today I tried using Hasoon2000's HTC Wildfire All in one kit.
5) Attempted to flash the recovery - thought it worked
6) As I knew about the system update mentioned above Apr17, 2012 I attempted to Flash the kernal with the boot rom inside the "RUU_Marvel_Virgin_Mobile_1.37.351.1_Radio_47.10.3 5.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_188032_signed". It went through and said everything worked perfectly. Upon restarting my phone is now stuck on the perpetual loop mentioned above and useless.
7) Booting into Hboot and attempting Flash does nothing as everything is still blocked it seems by that damm patch. Rooting using this program did not work either. I attempted to root from the Hboot USB promt (it was my only choice after the Brick)
Any assistance or ideas or leads really anything would be nice. I hope I supplied enough details.

LOL hey sorry my phone died and I was at work all last night.
You say its just in a perpetual boot loop... I had this with a "dodgy rom" install when I first started messing around. I managed to fix the issue with a complete wipe of SD card - formatted in the PC - then dalvic cach, cache etc... some "paid for" versions of App2sd etc that are patched or cracked also give loads of probs.
Stupic question, have you formatted / cleaned all aspects of mem card and phone acsessable files using the HBOOT.
When mine did it I just installed a fresh rom (cyanogen mod 10.1) and it worked again. without the reovery / install from SD isnt there I'm stumped.... noobie strikes... sorry
I'll have a read though... see what I can come up with.
I see from the Kernal You tried was for a MARVEL not MARVELC.... im sure the two should never be mixed up or bricking will happen
i'll get back to you later if i find anything out mate.

good luck Drakons:good:
your best bet at this point is to flash a custom rom that is already rooted. you have the custom recovery already installed so just flash the rom. (whichever you like) for future reference the marvelc can be s-offed by placing the pj76diag.nbh onto the sdcard and booting to bootloader, allowing it to run and then selecting clean s58 data. once you have s-off you can supercid and then run any ruu that you want, should you ever get stuck in situations like this. where as the htcdev unlock blocks the use of ruu`s and pj76img.zips from bootloader

HT Desire HD stuck with HTC logo (and CWM)

Hi all,
First of all, I can imagine that this problem has already been encountered a million times, but I tried searching the forum and didn't see the exact same problem as mine with the same setup. I'm happy to read more if someone points me to another thread with the solution.
Long story short, I tried flashing JellyTime_42 on this phone and even though everything seemed to work well, it's not booting and I'm stuck with the HTC logo.
unlocked the bootloader with HTC dev
flashed CWM recovery 5.8.1.5-ace
uploaded cm-JellyTime_42 and gapps.
wiped data, cache and dalvik cache using CWM
installed JellyTime
rebooted... and that's where I am now.
Some info about the phone itself. It's an Desire HD on ATT. cid: CWS__001

As I said, I can fastboot, and although I'm not sure how to push other stuff to the phone, that part seems functional.
Thanks a lot for your help!!
Nick
You need to fastboot flash the boot.img from the ROM zip.

Thanks so much bananagranola, that worked and I can now boot and use the phone!
(for some reason I never saw that step mentioned in any tutorial)
Thanks again
Most tutorials are for S-Off.
Yes, the preferred unlock method for the DHD/I4G is to get S-OFF using the Advanced Ace Hack Kit (AAHK). You can still do that, you just need to relock your bootloader and run the AAHK. The command to relock was given in the last step of HTCdev unlock.
You better do that soon though, if you want. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38157931
There are 2-3 tutorials in the Ace Think Tank thread for both the AAHK and HTCdev methods of unlock. I've made one for flashing a ROM after HTCdev unlock too. You'll find all the information you'll need about this phone in the Ace Think Tank thread. Look through it.
Also, I suggest you use either 4ext or TWRP recovery rather than CWM. CWM is very dated and causes problems while installing some ROMs (like the recent ViperDHD updates).
For 4ext - Download and install 4ext Recovery Updater from www.4ext.net and flash the latest touch recovery.
For TWRP - Install Goo Manager from Play Store->Menu->Install OpenRecoveryScript

Hi sashank,
Thanks for your input.
Why is AAHK the preferred method? It seems way complicated compared to what I've done, but probably I'm missing something. That said, the phone works like a charm now after flashing boot.img.
Because if you have S-OFF, you won't need to flash boot.img every time you flash a ROM/kernel/ROM update. You don't need to have a PC with you just to flash a ROM. Also, you can directly restore a backup with no hassle. With HTCdev unlock, you need to flash the boot.img in the backup folder separately to complete the process. I do this for my friend's One X because it doesn't have an S-OFF method unfortunately, and it's quite a hassle. If you're okay with flashing boot.img every time, then stick with HTCdev unlock, no problem.
AAHK is actually quite simple to use. It does everything for you. You just need to follow the instructions to the letter, select a few options correctly and it does the rest. Don't be intimidated by it.

Nico, HTCDEV just allows you to have a limited control over your device. You will still be linked to your carrier or sales code (CID) and will not be able to flash RUU from other carriers/geographical areas. That might sound useless now, but belive me that when you get stuck and can not find a RUU for your device you will remember it!
Besides, HTCDEV will not allow you to flash radios and some other stuff. Not to metion that your bootloader says *UNLOCKED* in a beautiful pink color at the top...LOL
S-OFF disables all kinda of security in the phone (nand security off) and that allows you to flash anything at all. From RUU's to radios without facing issues. Besides, that is completely reversible and will leave no traces of being S-OFF if you need to get to a service centre.

Because AAHK gives you full control on your device. It basically gives you permanent root privileges, S-OFFs your phone and with SuperCID (if needed) you actually unbrand your phone...that is that you can install every ROM you want on it.
It's not so difficult, to be honest, you just need to carefully read the guide and you'll soon unleash the real power of your device

I think that something is wrong there. The root access is only to rom level. If you flash a RUU you will lose root privileges until SU is flashed again. What the Hack Kit gives you is S-OFF permanently, which is reversible anyway.
Please Help
Hello
I need help. Please
I recently brought a friend's phone (Desire HD) to flash custom ROM on. I flashed boot.img via fastboot but when I select recovery, A white screen with HTC shows and after a few seconds, black screen occurs. I know screen is on however. I dont know what to do. The bootloader says unlocked but it says
S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0029
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.04.28_M
eMMC-boot
The steps that I did was.
1. I unlocked the bootloader via HTCDev. It gave me error so I updated via RUU manually through fastboot.
2. After that, I was able to unlock the bootloader via HTCDev.
3. I followed this (http://www.teamandroid.com/2013/04/...android-422-jellytime-jelly-bean-rom-guide/2/) to flash method to Jelly-time on DHD. But when I flashed boot.img via fastboot cmd, it does not go to Recovery, it only shows phone with exclamation mark. If I reboot the phone, it shows white HTC screen and then black black screen. Please help me what to do. After unlocking via HTCDev, I didn't intall CWM, I though flashing boot.img is actually installing CWN :'|
Thanks a LOT in advance
I worked it successfully. I fastboot flashed CWM and it worked. Case closed
