Notification bar icons question. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I am having an issue sticking to one rom, I love certain built in mods of some but like the visual feel of another, I've heard of using ninjamorph to switch out icons and certain themed aspects of roms, but where are these files in the system ? And maybe if someone knows other ways of interchanging parts of roms that would be great also.
Thanks

Learning to theme

Where can I go to learn to theme, or at least learn the basics?
I have two roms, I know how to make things like task bars change between two roms, but the rom I use has green selection color as well as inside text boxes, I like that better than blue or orange, I jut can't figure how to change that over as well

Let me know what you need to do. Supply me with the names of the files you are trying to work with and what folders they are in. I can help you.
It would be awesome to see a comprehensive guide on setting up/installing/tweaking themes/home screens. This is my first android coming off a palm treo755p and there wasnt alot of theme action there. So I'm pretty lost other than just downloading some adw themes.

I'm currently working on that but its a lot of writing and I will need screenshots to keep it from getting too confusing.

Themes Don't Change Every Icon

I have been trying out different themes for my phone, but what I came to notice is that not all of the icons match the theme and stay stock, and it looks stupid. Is there any way around this?
usually theme creators only theme the most common apps
Guess you gotta stick with the themes that don't mod the icons then

Don't think most themes change all icons

I'm talking about themes downloaded from the market for ADW.Launcher on CM7.2 RC3.
Your not going to find an adw theme that changes all apps. What you can do is if there is a popular app that is not themed, you can always contact the dev and ask nicely that it be put into the next update. I think a lot of devs just hit the basics and post to market quickly to make a few bucks. But some of the better ones will actually take the time to listen to their customers and incorporate requests.

What about some of the lettered icon packs?(Icon pack A,B,C, etc.) I've noticed there are a few if them, so maybe try those and see if they have what you're looking for.
A couple of devs have even posted numerous packs of 50-100 icons each....they are paid, but they should cover just about everything.

Also some themes don't have direct replacment icons, rather, they have a lot of generic icons. For instance, if you use a 3rd party twitter app, you can use the stock Twitter icon.

ICS SystemUI.apk mods

Anybody here successfully decompiled and recompiled SystemUI.apk? I thought I had managed it with APK multi-tool, but it force closed when opening the notification bar...
I tried doing this also, so I could get rid of the AT&T in the notification bar in the ICS leak ROMS, but I couldn't figure it out, either.
I don't think anyone's successfully done it yet. My bet is on dman getting it done first though.

as dman works on aosp version of ics as main part of the source most likely he wont have to change the SystemUI.apk at all - pure vanilla, most likely.
I'm on it right now. I've recompiled and compiled successfully. Current project is clock color but adding date and changing notification back ground are on my list. Unfortunately just so busy

I was able to decompile and recompile successfully too, but I got a FC when I tried to actually use it. Any insight would be helpful. Besides carrier label removal, there's a few other mods I'd like to implement. I was able to swap out the .pngs for the notification bar, but despite adding a full set of battery icons the only ones it uses are the ones corresponding to the stock battery icons, and they are fairly odd (71%? Really?) The ROM already supports 1% battery levels so it should be fairly easy to use the pngs for them, if I could recompile the apk successfully.

I'm really anticipating someone getting rid of that AT&T logo. I'm slightly OCD, and it's really bugging me.

So long as there's still a data-roaming notification, I'm cool with that... AT&T Service blows in my area, am constantly getting shuffed off to T-Mobile network (and further data charges)
if you want to look at the SystemUI.apk in NardROM 0.4 I finally managed to compile a working version with 1% battery icons, no carrier label, and no text on the quick setting toggles. Adding logic to only display roaming carrier labels would be a bit harder.
Also if you want to swap out the icons, it's really easy. Just rename the .apk and .zip and change them out and rezip. Icon changes don't require recompiling.

There is a guide here on how to decompile and recompile SystemUI that actually works .... if anyones interested

Sense Theme

Yo guys, me and my man Overstew are about to release a Sense theme for FreeGS3 v1.0. So far, we've got only the Status Bar, but it's definitely coming along great!
Now, we need to know, do you guys want Sense icons everywhere, or a lite version? Do you guys prefer a LITE (status bar, dialer, mms only) or a full version (Frameworks; including popups, Sense icons everywhere, dialer, mms, pulldown, Sense icons for all apps, etc.) or both?
Any suggestions are welcome.
~Ascer
I'd say do it a full on sense theme. As many similarities as possible. Just my opinion. Looks great so far!!

I would really love a full sense framework ui on this phone. So closer to sense it looks, the better.

I just wanted to say there are limitations. We can make things appear in the sense framework and even replicate many items 100% but things such as placement is outside of our knowledge. For example, replicating the pulldown is going to be nearly impossible but we can use the same color scheme.

if you're going for it, go for it 100% I think it's a pretty cool idea you guys / gals have.

Icons on touchwiz

I would like to has anybody found a way to to change or add icon packs while remaining on stock touchwiz launcher now I'm rooted at this time but I would like to keep touchwiz launcher but change how my icons look any help would be helpful

It's very simple actually to change apps and system icons if you are rooted and running custom recovery. That's how all available themes works. Launcher doesn't matter.
Get some theme, take a look at the zip folder/file structure inside and you'll see how easy is to replace any kind of apk resources making your custom icon pack.
Try anycut or bettercut and or desktop visualizer.
