I am a newbie when it comes to posting. I always use xda with the search function only when I have problems, but I can't find a working solution that works for me in the forums. this is my first time ever posting.
I am running CM6 stable with snap7.5 kernel & gapps-hdpi-20100817 and my GPS used to work like a charm but now it hangs on finding gps for a while now and it doesn't take me to route. I noticed a lot of people running CM6 is having the same problem, but none of the fixes work for me. I have tried wipe cache dalvik twice, then re-flashing newest gapps, and tried numerous different kernels, including stock CM6 kernel.
Also, one of the biggest annoyances is the missing apps in the market. I paid for apps like Skydroid and so on, and after flashing official CM6 stable titanium back wont restore, even just the app by itself. I cleared data & cache from market and did all fixes online, but still no luck. I can't even find it on the market to re purchase it. Thats when I started to notice there are a lot of apps that doesn't show up in my market search. I can find the apps like Angry Birds in Appbrian, but when i try to install it from my phone and when it brings me to the market place to install, it wont find it. If anyone can help me with these problems that would help me out so much, and put an end to my searching.
Not sure why.. but if you do titanium backup or your apps it stores then on the SD card to reinstall. Never have to go through market again. If you have a band backup to where you had those apps install it and do a apps backup then go to the nand backup of cm6 and install them through titanium

Actually I have tried that already too, I went back to a nand that i had all these apps working and then went back to CM6 and titanium backup still said unsuccessful installation. first time its happened but it was unsuccessful with a lot of apps.
Not sure where this question goes, I figure here but...
Last week I planned on trying out a few ROMS, I've been using Titanium flawlessly but with 48+ apps I decided to buy a license to bypass all the prompts.
And this is where the problems started. I still have not tried without the license file installed, I know I should.
I create a backup, verify the backup, flash a ROM and 1) flash install Titanium or 2) install from the market, start restore and the phone crashes back to the bootanimation, verify the backup now and every backup will have errors.
I posted this on the official Titanium forum and got not response.
Update busybox
I've tried that both before backup and before restore.
when titanium restores it kills the process it is restoring. if you are restoring the whole system instead of just your user apps, what you are saying will occur.
I am not restoring any system files or even system settings.
Only user apps and data.
I removed the lic file. Next flash I'll try a backup/restore and see what happens.
Tha'ts the only difference.
email the dev. he is great at helping and is damn smart.

That was one of the issues. The license was sent from a noreply address and support is direct to a forum.
However I just checked my paypal and sent an email to the address I paypal'd the donation.
I deleted the lic file from the SDcard and even rebooted and Titanium still shows as registered.
I'll hope that's a good email address and wait for an email response.
Sounds like you are having a similar problem that I was having. Are you letting TB auto restore settings from your sd cards? I turned that off... Deleted the files from the sd card... And haven't seen that problem again. I used mostly default settings so id prefer to just have to remember to adjust the few settings I liked whether I did a reinstall. (also.. Now that I'm thinking about it.. I also adopted trying to flash tb and inse instead just install it from the market... ) give both a go.

Not sure what you mean by that. It the same settings I've been using.
Again the only difference being the license file.

Debugging has always been on since before using Titanium.
Now to make it really interesting.
I've been playing with ROMS the last few days, I'm cooking a ROM from the latest RUU so I'm done now.
I've backed up in Sense, with the lic. I restored in a clean install of Cyanogen.
I also made a backup in Cyanogen and restored to a clean install of Sense.
I had to install each program manually with prompts but no errors and everything worked. No missing SDCard of data not working. I left those problems out.
I have a clean backup made in a Sense ROM and will try to restore to my new Sense ROM.
I previously deleted the backups through Titanium and also deleted the folder on the SDCard.
I once formatted and restored my files to the card while all this was happening.
As of now the restore seems to be going well.
-edit: Restore is finished and everything is working. Not sure what went on unless Titanium just doesn’t like the Snap Kernel.
I had this same TB problem after getting the license file. In trying to figure out the issue, I discovered that I had somehow managed to lose full root (i.e. NAND re-locked, s-on), my radio reverted to like 1.39.x (and reflashing the latest would not stick), and my HBOOT version had changed to .79 (or whatever the original shipped version was -- as opposed to the .76 version from Toast's root part 2).
I seriously doubt that the TB license caused all of those problems (though I can't for the life of me figure out how on earth that happened), but for others experiencing similar problems, double check that you have full root.
Is it hanging on the restore? Go to prefererences and change the restore type to "indirect."
There is an update on market for tb that says it addresses some license problems.
I did not lose root, All root apps still worked and I was able to flash all ROMS, themes, etc.
Although I do belive the ROMS I was restoring to were 3.29 OTA based. My current is 3.29 RUU based.
Nothing was hanging for me, just a crash, not an app FC, and all backups then being corrupt.
It's worked great when I flashed my current ROM. I even went back and forth a couple times playing with Cyanogen.
I don't know what happened.
did you get a response back from email
Same thing happened to me. went from a rooted Stock with s-off to Myn TwoPointTwo and formatted new SD card with A2SD (SD-ext) partition and backups verify as all corrupted. Tried Traditional restore and some could not be parsed. Also the Data for some completely corrupt.
What is odd is that some older backups were fine but newer ones where not. Even tried re-copying from a backups from PC and Dropbox.
Finishing re-install then going to wipe backups and try again. Its a real pain to manual reinstall and setup.
I searched the forum for something similar to no avail, so if I missed it, I apologize. So I had been running CM 6 stable for a month and everything was great. Hadn't upgraded kernels, or any other modifications. Turned my phone off for the night last night, and when it came back on, stuck in bootloop for no good reason why. So, oh well, I'll just flash a new ROM, no big deal, then tried CM7RC, it boots, I use titanium backup to restore everything, it all works well, until I reboot the phone again, and bam, right back to bootloop, but this time with CM7. I'm completely out of ideas, any help would be appreciated. I've wiped davlik, cache, did factory reset, everything I can think of.
Thanks ahead of time.
Try fixing permissions in recovery, if that fails then try wiping ALL data and installing CM again. If that doesn't work, try a Sense ROM, it might be an AOSP problem
so here's an update to my problem so far. What I had left out earlier was that I could install a new ROM, and I could reboot my phone and it would work fine. Not until I used Titanium Backup and restored all of my apps and settings did I run into a problem. With that said, I did as PGleo86 said. This time, it worked just as it had before. Phone was fine, until I restored data. So I thought about what I had installed last. So the last time I wiped everything and installed CM7, I used Titanium Backup, but this time I omitted a few programs and settings, namely, Amazon App Store and Angry Birds Rio. This time when I rebooted, it worked fine. So I am slowly going to restore the settings, apps, and data I omitted one at a time and reboot my phone to see if any of them put me into boot loop. Has anyone heard of anything like this before? Particularly with Amazon App Store or Angry Birds Rio? (I did recently upgrade my version of Swype as well)

From what I understand, its restoring the data that is killin it. You can restore all the apps you like, but when you start restoring data, it seriously screws with alot of roms. You will keep having the issue as long as your restoring data. Good luck dude
This may take a while but try reloading a few apps at a time to see which on in particular is causing the issue. I saw a post like this somewhere on this massive forum, but the person found out it was one app that was killing the boot process.
Different roms store data in different places. So titanium is writing data to somewhere it shouldn't be.
Question is in the thread title.
In the past, when I had a Samsung Infuse 4G, MyBackupPro worked wonderfully for backing up apps and data before flashing a new ROM, and painlessly restoring apps and data after flashing a new ROM (by painlessly I mean all at once, as opposed to having to go through and click "restore" for each app and data). However, for whatever reason, MyBackupPro is not playing nicely with my Note 2. I can backup and all that, but restoration never occurs. In fact, most times it won't find the backup to even restore!
So, what is everybody's favorite/easiest way to backup before flashing a new ROM, and restoring after flashing a new ROM? Preferably a free option.
When I was working with the Infuse, I seem to remember lots of developers saying to NEVER restore data after flashing a new ROM. I don't understand why that is. I know people aren't starting their games and stuff over from scratch when they flash a new ROM, especially since many people change ROMs every couple of days.
Thanks in advance! :highfive:
I use titanium backup. Works great with the note 2.
When they are saying don't restore data they are talking about system data. If you backup everything including system apps and data and restore from that it can wreck havoc.
Just backing up user apps and data is fine to restore, at least I've never had a problem. I would just be wary going between touch wiz and aosp ROMs that could get a little dicey, but between the same type of ROMs(ice cm10.1 to aokp or pacman or aospa) should be fine.

i used Helium (used to be Carbon) by Koush, the creator of CWM and ROM Manager) recently when i switched ROMs. i have always used Titanium Backup, but thought i would try Helium. the process is super easy and went very smoothly.

I believe when it comes to backing up/moving apps + data, time, convenience or money saving should simply stay out of the decision making process. BUY the best there is, spend time to learn how to properly use the tool and that will give you the quickest, most convenient and money saving solution. In other words, this is where you shouldn't be cutting any corners. I would recommend either Titanium Backup Pro or ROM Toolbox Pro.
I bought Helium Premium and it worked beautifully. Now I have no reason not to try every ROM available for this phone. Thanks guys!
My backup pro + root will do the job nice. If you're not seeing your backups try going into settings and check that your backups are going to EXTENT sd.

I've been using titanium backup pro. It works pretty well, and it's pretty fast. Sometimes there are problems accessing my backup folder after a new flash, but restarting and fixing permissions will usually fix it.

did you set the backup location under settings when you redownloaded the app to point to the location of your backup folder?
+1 titanium backup..when restoring after a rom install..make sure to restore only apps never restore apos wirh chemicals system data...you'll have conflicts then.
Titanium backup is the best in my opinion. .you can backup bookmarks, message sms, call logs and even send them to dropbox and restore them just as easy...
I agree that Ti Backup is a good option. I wont say its the best period, but it is the best that I have used.

Update The likely culprit appears to be an app called Velis Auto Brightness. A little over three weeks after this problem first arose, I switched my ROM to Dandroid. In deciding what apps gradually to add back, I ran across comments like the following for Velis:
Cannot press install from an APK Found a bug that needs fixing. With this app enabled for some reason installing from an APK it renders the Install button useless but the cancel button still works. As soon as I disabled this App, the Install button worked again.

Nice, but one slight issue I really like this app. Very useful and easy to use. My only issue is that when the app is active, if I turn off system auto brightness and try to raise the brightness, Velis overrides this and forces auto brightness.

Since yesterday, I cannot install apps, neither from the Play Store, Amazon, nor side-loading. The install process begins, but when I get to the screen that offers a choice between "Cancel" and "Install" pressing "Install" does nothing. I can, however, cancel out.
Thinking that installing a trial version of Cerberus may have caused the problem, I first disabled then uninstalled it. Neither solved the problem. I then disabled XPrivacy, also without success. (I restarted the phone each time before trying.)
Yes, "Unknown sources" is checked.
Any thoughts?
TIA.
Are you rooted?
Rom/kernel?
How much space do you have left? Anything else ypu may have done prior to installing Cerberus?

Doc, thanks for your interest. Here are the answers to your questions.
Rooted.
Stockorama version 2 (no change in the last month or more)
T99UVDMD5 (no change in the last month or more)
3.031-112078 [email protected] #2 SMP PREEMPT Mon Apr 15 11:59:10 KST 2013 (no change in the last month or more)
12.85GB available (32GB model) If it matters, I also have an external 64GB SanDisk sdcard that sporadically cannot be read. Rebooting generally again makes it available. Although I live with this, I'd appreciate any thoughts on this as well. But the no-install problem is more pressing.
Regarding the installation of Cerberus, to be more accurate I opened, configured, and ran it yesterday for the first time. According to my AppBrain timeline, I installed it on June 7th.
Try this,
Uncheck unknown sources, reboot, recheck and try installing something.
If it doesn't help, shut down, remove the sdcard, power on and try again.
If this doesn't help, use Titanium backup or a similar app and backup any important apps and data (contacts, sms, etc)(also I find it good to export contacts to sd from the contacts app itself), then boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
Next reflash your rom, wiping cache and dalvik (not factory reset). Reboot and try it out. If its still a problem, factory reset, then try again. If this solves it then start restoring your backed up apps. (Start only with the ones you really need your data restored on, the rest I'd suggest reinstalling clean).
I vaguely recall looking into Cerberus a month or so ago and I don't think it had been recently updated for JB. (I could be remembering wrong though) Before reinstalling it, and providing everything is working, make a new nandroid backup, then you can try it again with an easy, recent restore point.
As for your sdcard, what is it formatted as? Fat32, exFat? You may need to back it up and reformat it. I'd try exFat first since you're using a TW rom. If you plan on flashing CM/AOSP based roms, format as fat32. First try formatting using the phone. If you still have issues, format again on a computer.

After removing the sdcard, I was able to install in the following circumstances:
--online via computer from the Play Store (no need to press "install" on my SGS3).
--online from my phone from the Play Store (two different apps, chosen simply as a test, installed without my being asked to press "install").
But I still am stuck when trying to install apps from Dropbox or my download folder.
Trying to install from Amazon via my phone brings up the Cancel/Install choice, and pressing "Install" does noting.
I also disabled Floating Notifications, but that had no effect.
I have a nandroid backup from June 27th. Before reflashing Stockorama and adding back apps, would you suggest restoring that backup? If so, do you have any other suggestion before restoring the nandroid backup?
Thanks again for your continuing interest.
In recovery try wiping cache and dalvik. Not factory resetting. Then if that doesn't do it, reflash the rom.
I'd make a new nandroid beforehand so you don't have to worry about mistakes and loss of data. And of course make another once its working again.
If you use the old one, you'll lose any data you've gathered since then. If you are ok with this then go ahead. I'd try my above suggestions first though.

Success, eventually.
Wiping cache and dalvik didn't work. But restoring my June 27th nandroid backup did. I'm now in the process, with the assistance of my AppBrain timeline, of reinstalling apps from my Titanium backup and deleting others. (Just to be safe, I'm deleting Cerberus without having activated it on this flashing.)
A question, if you will. Were your suggestions just general troubleshooting? Or, did you--do you--have some idea what caused my problem?
Many thanks for your help.
Mostly troibleshooting. Sounded like some data was corrupted or was just in general conflict with the system. First time I had ever seen this particular problem. Glad you got it working! Make a newer nandroid once youre set back up, then you can try Cerberus again just to be sure it caused the problem. If you choose of course.
