key differences between this and i9300 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm so fed up with using i9300 on att's network.. it takes hours to complete minutes of facebooking.. the browser sticks, the internet just SUCKS.. idk if its bad modems or overcrowded 3g but I'm ready to upgrade to LTE.
I know the processors are different, performance wise they're similar, but att's has worse graphics right?
I also heard the sound card is worse, is this true? is there a big difference? I know my i9300 sounds amazing, does the att version?
att has 2 gb of ram
are these the only hardware differences I should know about? are there any others I didn't list?

This phone plays every game I toss at it, granted I don't do a lot of heavy gaming for long periods of time so I can't speak in that regard.
The sound on this phone is great, everyone who hearrd me pary music on it is astounded by the volume and clarity of the phone.
The extra ram is sweet,I keep everything open all the time without a stutter.
Lte, 40mbps down... think that speaks for itself.
Honestly, the only reason I'd stick with the international is for gaming and if you don't live in lte territory. But from what I've heard, the gaming gains are nominal.
Edited for spell check fail... that's what I get for posting while walking ;p

I've had both phones multiple times, i love the I9300 for the development but i also love the ATT one because of the LTE and 2gb on ram.
You really cant tell the difference, the ATT one is TINY TINY bit laggy but rarely. The international has never lagged on me ever, getting 55mb down on LTE is a huge PLUS though.

so are those it? just processor, and sound chip are different?

Plus the ram, carrier, data connections and development. The 747 will get updates slower ie jb will be released a bit later on the 747.

What are your APN settings? I have to tweak them on every ROM to get good cell data speeds on AT&T HSPA. The default wap.cingular apn is terribly slow in my area.

Use the PTA apn, i used it on my I9300 with the sim from my ATT S3

The 9300 will be updated more quickly and possibly more often than the 747 or other variants and won't be subject to change from any apple suits. And without the ATT junk applications. Call att and make sure that they have provisioned your phone properly. The pat apn is possibly a problem since it is a LTE apn and you can only use a hspa apn.

No LTE for t-mobile gs3

I read that even when t-mobile jumps on the lte band wagon in 2013, that our gs3 phones will not be able to take advantage of the new speeds (what a drag). I'm not sure if this is really the case, but I posted the link to the article below.
http://www.galaxys3newsblog.com/t-mobiles-samsung-galaxy-s3-to-miss-lte-yet-another-dissappointment/
One thing you have to remember you always want to buy a phone that works right now for you not a phone that would work better in the future, I'm happy with hspa+ and by the time I get lte from tmobile I might have another phone anyways so I think I'm cool with that, it bee discuss in another topic too
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
This is true. I just thought that I would post this for those who didn't have the benefit of reading the other post. For those that don't change their phones often and intend on keeping the gs3 for some time, I thought that this was good information to help them make a well informed purchase. I hope this helped anyone that didn't know and wants to buy a gs3.
My HSPA+ speeds are consistanly faster than my friends Verizon LTE. Plus HSPA+ uses dramatically less battery. Heres my speeds in Detroit.

Same here in San Diego. Verizon was fast out of the gate but they heavily over-subscribed their network and now they are lame. AT&T is the crazy fast at the moment but I expect them to be in the same boat as Verizon this time next year.

Practicly yes on stock 4g shows when you connected to umts(3g), hspa and hspa+(t mobile calls this 4g cause it could go up to 42mbps) but if you changed yours to stock look ( aosp) you will see your phone going at all of them and won't stay connected to one at all times, you might no notice because their 3g is not crazy slow where you live, I have good coverage specially where I live and work so I don't mind it

It does have LTE, just like the T-989 did, its just disabled by default. You can access this setting by opening the dialer and typing *#*#4636#*#*, and selecting radio type.

Just like everyone else, ive been wrong before, and it would be awesome if I am this time. I just dont think it does a lot of good to speculate either way when the rollout doesnt even start till next year and most of us wont see it till a year after that
It just seems to serve to confuse people and get their hopes up when it probably wont even work with this phone.
Also, a number of people have unlocked the T999 for use on Sprint and Verizon and are not able to get LTE. Just sayin. Im leaving it at that though.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
the nice thing about MSM8960 SOC board is that the radios can be programmed to virtually any current GSM, HSPA or LTE frequency in use in the United States today. the board has a RAT lock on it and not sure if it can be unlocked but all GS3's support any of the three frequency's. now if any one knows how to unlock and program them thats another story.. and just cause the software has a setting doesnt mean tmobile put it in there. and with the gs4 launching in feb-mar im not to sure they would even update the gs3. every one wants lte and if you have to buy a new phone to get it then thats how they make money.
Well I have talk to several people from samsung and tmobile and they said that the s3 is capable of the LTE, but you can't use them till the end of this year and beginning of 2013 .I hope this is true, if you guys don't believed me ask Samsung or T-Mobile and I try 5 times different people and they all told me the same ....

This is probably because they use the same build for all 4 models and it's easier to leave it in since 3 carriers carry it?
But anyways the s2 Hercules also had that option, but the hardware didn't allow it.

I dont' think they would pull out the LTE radio from thew chip just for T-mobile so I'm sure it's there BUT, T-mobile as being plain greedy of all companies across world has to release their Long Term Evolution Network on band NOT supported by S3 they will make more money on new phones possible Galaxy S3 Rocket or whatever

Well thats your opinion. THere is no reason to post a thread about an opinion with zero information backing it up. It is quite rude of you actually. DocHoliday has been telling everyone that there is no possible way for our phone to support LTE. And why does he say this? Well because thats his opinion, but he has it backed by very simple to understand hardware specs. LTE is a total separate radio then the standard GSM that our device has. So unless they release a new S3 for T-Mobile, then the S3 will never see LTE. There is no amount of software hacking that will put a hardware component into a device. And every T-Mobile person i have asked confirmed the S3 will NOT support LTE. SO EVERYONE just leave it already.
What really annoys me is how you decided you just had to create a whole separate thread about this which has been discussed hundreds of times. you have an opinion great, post in a thread that already exists.

Wow

I bought a gn2 unlocked off craigslist for $450.00 cash.
Purchased a solavei wireless sim card.
60 bucks a month no throttle after any amount of data used.
Great coverage averaged 14 mbps down. Hmm with speeds like these hard to see how sprint stays with these guys.
For the first time in years I have been thinking of bouncing. From sprint to another Carrier . The blazing data speeds have me mezmerized. Solavei rides on tmobiles network. But at that price it may be worth a switch.
Bought the 2nd gn2 for a work phone. Gonna wait and see if sprint builds out the lte network in my area. But it's sad when I go back to my sprint gn2 and speeds won't pay 512 kbps on average.

HSPA+ ? Trust me even still in the dfw areas it's good averages 6 to 15Mbps. They don't need to roll out lte but normal consumers don't understand differences between 4g technology. And t mobile is truly using 3g but when pushed to its ultimate limits it hits 4g like speeds. But they don't people that obviously.but that's why gsm is so much better than cdma and other stuff too lol

I have tmobile and one of their major slogans sort of is "the only truly unlimited data plan". Ive used like 30 gigs of data the month I have owned my note 2 and have never been throttled. Usually get around 27mb 19 down. I notice no change in speed.

If Sprint were to release EvDo RevB or even RevC, it'd pull speeds of up to 30mbps, too. Problem is, lte becoming the new standard, it'll evolve the fastest and its cost efficient for Sprint in the long run (also cost efficient for any carrier.) This is why everyone's going to lte.

GSM certainly has its advantages, that's why I was with T-mobile previously. The HSPA is getting pretty fast at it's peak, but there are so many times when you don't get those numbers if you are in a heavily used area.
Having said that, I switched to Sprint because they are implementing the next wave of GSM (READ: LTE-A) before T-mobile will be finished with their GSM network (Read: HSPA+42)

Cm10 stable data issues

So I just got the S3 today and immediately got home and rooted and threw cm10 stable on it. Well its been stable minus the data issues in getting. Its switching between 3G and H+ until i try to use data it sticks to H+ but then doesn't work. Speed test times out and so does the play store. Then I have to keep retrying then finally it works? Its bugging me terribly as on the way hone when I was playing with it... none of these issues were present? Any ideas?
Sent from my SGH-T999

the switching between 3g and h+ (4g) is to save on battery live. even a stock nexus 4 does the same thing. the 4g modems that can handle 42mbs can drain tha battery. ther are ways to force h+ but it will drain your batt. if you want to fix search in the cm roms or any aosp rom thread.

Getting HSPA speeds on AT&T

Ive searched many threads but cant find an answer. I carrier unlocked my T Mobile Note 2 and use it with AT&T. I see many people have done this but those people get at least 3G speeds. Im getting Edge only speeds. I added the APN wap.cingular and tried the PTA one. PTA doesnt work and wap.cingular is how I get edge speeds. What can I do?

You'll need to install an ATT compatible radio to get 3g. I don't even know if one exists, but I'd try googling something like "use T-Mobile note 2 on AT&T" or something like that.

That is not accurate.
I have a T889 that is unlocked. When I put my AT&T SIM card into it, I get 3G speeds comparable to my regular AT&T devices.
I didn't do any kind of modem flashing or other tweaks. I might have had to enter the proper APN settings, it's been sb while so I don't recall for sure, but I know for a fact that nothing else was needed.

The ROM I'm using (based off an international Note 2) seems to have AT&T APN settings built into it, but they seem similar to one's I've input manually when on the stock ROM.
I just shoved my AT&T SIM into the phone and confirmed HSPA+ service being received, although it's a pitiful 3 Mb/s around here. That's the same I got on my One X with the same SIM just before putting it in the Note 2 to get you these settings.
Here's some screenshots for you to coy the APN settings from.

if you use dialer code *#*#4636#*#* .. can you access the pop-up menu? You can enable LTE/UMTS in this section...
Same Problem
I just went to AT&T to get a new micro sim, called cust service to change my imei ( though not the actual international one ) to make sure I'm on the right plan, but after testing the phone and PTA APNs I'm still only getting Edge speeds ..if anyone can help that would be great!
