no!!!
What you're saying did happen to me when I was on some sense rom, but it was along with the other stuff mentioned in the thread above.
Remove the weather widget on home screen. Get GPS Test.
Try doing this:
1)Switch on GPS
2)Switch to Airplane Mode
3)Restart phone
4)Get a lock on in GPS Test map, see if it comes accurate
5)Then check settings of weather app and make sure its current location.

Question what's up with HTC weather app that has widget on lock screen and on home screen when it's first set up. The location is way off. Even when I have checked use current location it's out by 40miles or so. Then sometimes it works perfectly then goes back to ah here will do sure it's in the same country.
But Google now can be right so. I have location settings on WiFi and mobile data mode which is battery saving mode. But even when it's switched to high accuracy still the same.
Any body else have this problem
I typically dont have any problems with location and weather.
My problems with the weather app are that it shows the proposed weather instead of the actual weather.
This is driving me up the wall.
For navigation apps I need "high accuracy," which uses GPS.
Maybe "Maps," too.
Pretty much nothing else needs that resolution. Weather apps & etc. are probably good enough just using the cell network triangulation.
But now I can only turn on "location" from the drop-down menu in the notification bar. If I want to turn on and off GPS, I have to go into Settings.
Am I doing something wrong? Or am I just nuts? If I leave it on "high accuracy," my phone sits at "seeking GPS" (or something like that) all the time when I'm inside.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks.

I was confused about this too when I finally upgraded my Note 2 to KitKat. Previous to KitKat, I think there was another screen that would let you control whether to have Google Location services use wifi network locations and cell data for apps. This gives you a rough estimate of your location, and I guess it was on for me since I was always able to get a rough location of where I was in Google Maps. It was only when I wanted turn-by-turn directions that I had to turn on GPS. After the upgrade, "Location" is the setting that controls all of this. Under this area, there are 3 modes: High accuracy, Power saving, and GPS only. If you want the same functionality as before (assuming you had Google Location Services on), set it to Power saving (You will have to agree to allow other apps to use this info). Then when you want to use GPS for turn-by-turn, open Google maps, find a destination, and start the navigation. You will get prompted the following:
"Turn-by-turn navigation is only available in these location modes:
-High accuracy
-Device only"
It will prompt you to go into Settings and change your mode, first taking you to the Location screen where you will click on "mode" to select one of the other 2 options. I guess when you're finished with using GPS you will have to go back into the Location settings and change it back to Power Saving mode. I think the easiest way to get there is to press and hold the Location button in your drop-down menu.
Having the Location mode off completely will prevent Google Maps (and other apps?) from finding you on the map or your location.
This is how I understand it to be working. Hope that helps.
Hi!
I've been using this phone for almost 2 months but there are things I still haven't been able to figure out. I'm wondering if I just don't know the trick or if it's just not functionalities available with the phone / OS.
How do you take a screenshot? I have tried volume down + power, power + home, installing apps, nothing worked
How do you blacklist a phone number in the stock call app? I can only delete the entry in the history or add it to contacts
For the stock weather widget, connected to Accuweather, I can only update the weather info when GPS is enable (which doesn't make sense!) and even so it updates to data from minimum "10 minutes ago". Did I miss some settings somewhere?
Thanks for the help and sorry for the noob questions
Screenshot - volume down & power. You should get a bar at the bottom of the screen that lets you delete the screenshot, accept it, edit, etc.
I don't think you can block a phone number with the stock dialer app.
No idea about the weather widget; I've never used it.

Screenshot can be taken with three fingers. I use my thumb, index and middle finger and pinch the screen. You can change this in the setting -> gestures & motions.
Not sure about your other two questions.
So Google App is turning location on 24/7. If I go into app permissions and deny it, the icon in the status bar goes away instantly. And comes back instantly as soon as I allow it. I have good gps lock in other apps. I have cleared all data in it....no change.
Any one else, or any ideas what to do next?

Hello...
Not sure it will help... Has it something to do with "location history" ?
Google app trying to locate you all the time?
Try looking at Google app > settings > accounts & privacy > Google activity control > location history
Try turning it off and see if location enables itself yet?!
Good luck...
Hey,
Forgot to add my screenshot
Cheers...
That was a good idea, but alas no change.
Bump, I found something on this.
If I have location on high accuracy Google App gets a lock and the location icon in the status bar goes away. As soon as I switch location back to device only Google App locks the location icon back on.
I can repeat this every time.
Could a couple of people test this for me to confirm and let me know please?
Really XDA? No one has 30 seconds to switch Location to Device Only and tell me if it locks the location icon on?
Are you using the pixel launcher? If you are then try to deny location for it too.

I have the situation under control. I can deny Google and it's fine. Or I can set location to High Accuracy. Just trying to get confirmation it is a Google bug so I can report it.
For some reason, my google home screen switch from the date and time to the weather.
Anyways to change it back?
It could be that the weather has not been updated yet. Flick to the google screen (far left) and refresh. Click on the weather icon at the top if you prefer.
Then either give it some time, or do a restart and see if it comes back.
And make sure location is on. And this seems to happen to a fair number of people. It will come back in a day.
