Having batery drain or is normal when screen on? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Is this normal? This is this is using flipboard and reading in xda. Screen on full time automatic brightness, gps off, wifi off
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium

Yep. Looks perfectly normal to me. It might help a little more seeing exactly how much screen on time you have but this doesn't seem to be too over the top especially sense it is a touchwiz based ROM. Could you give me more information on whether you are overclocked, screen on time, and what rom/kernel your using? BTW I have been experiencing excellent battery life out of cm10 and aokp jb. Some features don't work but is a non issue to me and know they will be resolved in the future

[q] big battery problem please help!!!!

No matter which ROM i choose wether its 2.3 based or 4.0 based, Calks or Phantom. Even CM9, Team Dirt. I always get crap battery life. ANDROID OS and ANDROID SYSTEM hog the battery!!! Why is this. The only thing that has not changed will i have been flashing all these roms is the Modem. I am currrently running FF18 Modem. Could this be the culprit? Please help guys!
The android os usage in ICS is normal. What do you consider bad battery life?
So many things affect battery life. Low signal will wipe out a battery in no time, synching multiple accounts (email, facebook is notoriously bad...) and software you may have installed. How is the battery drain when the phone is sleeping? Since there really isn't much we can do about battery while you're actually using the phone, the next step is to improve on sleep efficiency and this will help the battery life overall.
Try installing BetterBatteryStats. There is a thread here on XDA you can search for and download and install this app. The best way to use it is to let the phone sleep on battery without using it for a minimum of 2-3 hours, overnight is best. Then view the kernel and partial wakelocks to see if something isn't allowing the phone to sleep properly.
battery battery life?
Couldn't you also use multiple profiles in an OC app to undervolt and underclock the phone when it sleeps? (screen off profile set to 800MHz and screen on 1200MHz) Just a suggestion, hope this helps.
I have to charge my phone twice a day because I am on it all the time. My ave battery life 11hr 47min. Running Badass Battery Monitor.
Turn off auto sync for your Google account on your phone and manually sync it from time to time. Before I did this android was at the top of the list in the battery. Now screen time dominates everything else in usage.

Yes I did this too, it helps a lot
Yes, synching too often is a killer.
Don't forget about the phone radio too: wifi/bluetooth/gps/data/4G all can have a negative impact if left running.
Someone recently posted that at his workplace, he had zero signal and he could barely make it through the day. He discovered turning data off entirely in that scenario saved battery in a huge way.

I guess you should try downloading any battery calibration app from the market and also try battery control.... I hope it would help you..... Or the usual juice defender

Sounds like you have a rouge app causing your phone to not sleep and run non-stop.
Sent from Pluto.
Few things to try.
Get Auto run manager free from the market. It will help you stop all services or app you don't us when you fresh boot up.
Also like they say, an app that might be causing the problem.
Try auto killer memory automizer this is just to show what apps are running. you can kill them but it will help you identified the problem quicker..
The main thing will be to try from the start to kill then when you boot not to killed them when they already started
There is many way, hope this help you

Yes.
To not get you confuse.
I'm running Blazer Rom 1.7 now.
The screen shot was from 1.6
Apart from the rom being different and tweek. If you don't want to change and stay in stock rooted rom. Then the apps I told you, will help you.
Here a screen shot of the auto run manager.
This will help you boot with out having apps that you don't use starting.
That will be a great help, I'm not an expert and they are people here that have great advice. Hope my 2cents help you

Blazer 1.7 gives the best battery life.

You could also let the battery drain, and then a full charge for a great cycle

how to increase battery life! need help! very desperate! tmobile galaxy s3

so i just flashed this new rom (infamous s3 v2.1) i really love this rom.
but the battery dies real fast..
i never turn on my wifi. i leave the standby thing for wifi on never.
i turn off basically everything except for my data.
i usually watch a lot of korean dramas and browse the web.
i was also wondering if flashing kernels would help increase my battery life and if so, how?
i really need help guys!
thanks for taking the time to look at this
For starters, turn on wifi whenever you can. Networ data uses a lot mire battery than wifi does. Wifi only uses excess battery when its constantly scanning for a connection. turn both off when not needed.
Also, any features you don't constantly use, turn off when not needed. Smart stay, auto brightness, auto sync, etc.

I use the cpu sleeper app which turns off one core when the screens off.

Also Frosty Ics and JB roms get pretty great battery life.

Please help with battery drain.

I'm new to the galaxy Nexus. I rooted it recently and put maddoggin's ROM onto it(Sprint). Also I have fh05 radios if this helps. I have tried a few different kernels. I noticed only when the screen is on is when it start its decline. I just took it off the charger at 100% at 1:30 now at 1:50 its at 85%. I really just want the jop40d stock kernel to give that a try but I can't find it. Someone please try to shine some light on this.

40 minutes screen time and on LTE. Isn't that normal for that model?
I wish I knew what normal was
40 min of screen on time, lte enabled and still 66% left of battery. I think that's normal. Search the forum and u will find few threads about this.

I get around 1.5-2 hours of screen on time, LTE on all the time, no wifi and such...what kernel are you using with which i/o scheduler and governor are you running? Also, do a screen shot of running processes accessed through settings>apps>running processes.

Governor: interactive (can't change it anyways. Won't let me)
And the kernel is on a screen shot the previous page. Also my processor doesn't pass 700mhz although its set for 1200mhz weird.

Holy crap! You have a lot of things running! Usually I only have three or four processes running! I can tell you for sure that the maps app burns a lot of battery in the background, and you need to shut that down and turn off location services! Also, you have the same media bug that I do that I haven't figured out how to stop...sorry I forgot which rom you're on, but on 4.1.2, I had a really go fix by running a certain gapps package, but on 4.2, I'm stuck and that's why I'm online lol...

Just flash Pure AOSP ROM.. I too faced this issue when earlier I flashed stock ROM over bigxie's ROM.ASOP ROMs are very fast and stock type.
I did most of everything I was told and its still draining. I'm even using WiFi now. I guess I will try a aosp ROM and I still would like the stock kernel
do anyone else have any other idea of what the problem is? i know this isnt normal. no one would have this phone is the batter only lasted 4-5 hrs like mine

48hrs later.......

And I am pretty disappointed in the battery life of this thing. I used a htc one for a few months and I actually think it did better than this beast. I got to say though, the display on this thing kills everything I have ever used as far as the enjoyment from the massive size. But when I was looking into this thing I kept hearing 2 days easy with this guy. I am at 23% at 250pm when I took it off at 630am. Is there something I have set wrong or is this typical. My htc would be at 25-30% when I went to bed at night usually. I do have automatic brightness checked just an fyi because that is the first thing people will prob ask.

I can't comment on the original battery because I ordered a 7960mah battery off ebay the same day I bought my Note 2. I take off at 6:30 am also but my battery is at 73% and it's 3:28 pm. I knew I was going to abuse my battery so I replaced it before it even had a chance to let me down lol. Also, I'm running Paranoid Android 3.96 (Android 4.3) which is one of the custom roms that gets good battery life.
Wish I could be of more assistance?? Well here you go.
1) Disable daydream in your display settings
2) Flash a custom kernel for stock roms...I would suggest Saber or Perseus
3) Download STweaks after installing a custom kernel and perhaps underclock your processor to 1.2 Ghz, you shouldn't see a big difference in performance but should get a HUGE savings on battery life.
3.5) You can also allow your device to go into a deep sleep at 200Mhz while you're not using it. It's kind of like having your phone completely off but will instantly wake when you get an email, txt, etc. And afterwards after a user set time, it will sleep again until either you wake it or get another message.
4) Last but not least, if you really want to tweak your stock rom into tip top shape and aren't comfortable flashing alot of mods...download Pimp My Rom from the Play Store and let this app do the work for you.
Hopefully some of this will help you out.
**If you one day get familiar with flashing custom roms, this will be a huge savings on battery. I would recommend 4.2 roms or 4.3 roms because they aren't bloated with alot of the Sprint/Samsung junk that is running in the background, ultimately killing your battery without you ever knowing it.**

This is correct. Lol. Daydream is a 4.2.2 feature, you wouldn't see that in 4.1.2, my bad.
Make sure there is nothing trying to sync if you dont have a good signal. Go to settings 》data and restrict background data. Keep facebook and other things from syncing when you really don't need them to sync.

Sent from my Kraken using xda app-developers app
I can't really say if the kernel affects the battery life that much, unless your underclocking which am overoclocked and still get great battery life but as of the smoothness saber kernel is great for me. I cant remember the last time I restarted my phone because of slowing down or just somthing wierd everything is smooth and fast all the time. Plus voodoo sound is very nice. Alot of users recomend the perseus kernel also but I personally had some random issues with it so saber is my daily driver kernel

You fail to show your screen on time. You probably have like 3hrs worth and at 55% for all we know. Which is what I actually get from this bad boy before I hit the 50% mark. On a good day I can get 6.5hrs of screen on time and I have lots of stuff syncing in the background.. 3 email accounts, Google services, Weather, Facebook, Samsung account, Skype, Tango, Twitter, ubersync, Voxer, what's app, YouMail and fring.
By the way did you get a brand new note or did you buy a used one? Battery could be faulty or another thing could be you are in a bad coverage area which drains batt.
