Hi
After last ota I can't open links with Firefox. Everything is using built-in browser. Before updating I used Firefox as my default browser, now I don't even get the question which to use.
What have happened?

Have you tried clearing the built-in browser defaults?
The OTAs had reset the "Internet" as default brwoser.
Simply go to Settings >> Apps >> find "Internet" >> press clear default. Solved.
If you like to used firefox by default, you can do the same to it...
Why didn't I think of that?
I removed Firefox but didn't think of clearing the default one.
Thanks

The memory settings are quite aggressive on sense, its likely killing facebook service.

by default sense has very aggressive memory management meanng it will close apps quite quickly there are some app on play and as a mod on the forums, to improve it.
but before that have you tried unticking and reticking the box? clearing cache/data of FB or reinstalling it?
I have no memory management tweaks and i am getting them just fine :/

Does nobody else face this issue? :-( Do you get FB notifications in your taskbar?
cheers,
alkorsi
I don't get them either, but I didn't get them on the SGS2 either, so not sure if I'm supposed to get them.
I get a notification via tapatalk though when someone sends me a private message. - so, not every process gets killed.

What kind of notifications do you miss?
Perhaps you should activate them yourself, on your fb groups you should visit the group and turn on notifications to get them, for IM you game messenger perhaps (no problem there I think?)
You can also check the refresh interval @settings on your Facebook app if it is high then you won't get notifications so often.

where to check - within the app or within FB itself?
This is an Android issue....the only way I solved it myself was get access to a blackberry (yeah I know) or the virtual Blackberry software for windows.
Once logged in to Facebook log straight back out, you only need it for a minute, then go to Facebook on a PC, account settings and then apps I believe, in there somewhere will be Facebook for Blackberry, allow this access and that's it!
Its a bit fiddly but it solved it for me!
If you Google the right thing you will find a step by step guide, sorry I did this a year ago, so its all from memory :-\

I can confirm this. When I was still using my Galaxy S2 and lacked notifications for Facebook, I used the virtual blackberry software for windows from the RIM site, and logged in on facebook with that to fix the problem. It's been mentioned a few times before.
this is an well-known issue and affecting majority of Android devices, there are two workarounds
1. use MB Notifications for Facebook from Android Market
2. try the Blackberry FB tricks here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386394
I used the 2nd method and it works like a charm

Or use Friendcaster (or Friendcaster Pro) from the market.
I get all notifications with no problem by using this app and it has a push setting too (although it is still a bit buggy atm)

Yep i tried the 2nd method as well about three days ago and now works perfectly.
Pretty roundabout method but it works
Hi,
Many thanks for this BB workaround - I tried it and it works

I have noticed a slight problem with my facebook app. Whenever I try to open a facebook link like
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...3971142.-2207520000.1355301164&type=3&theater
The url opens up in safari instead of the app.
Any solutions ?

I tried that already. I was getting open "Complete action using" and a drop down option with all my browsers. I just cannot open it in my facebook app.
Anyone ?
Uninstall safari. No apple crap please

Try as above said disable or remove the other browsers and try again. I noticed that on the stock ROM anyhow that when i use the google voice search that it always used the built in browser. Could be a quirk like that?
Oops, sorry,it was dolphin web browser.like I said,I cleared defaults from all the browsers.now when I click the facebook url, it says complete action using with a list of all my browsers.

It seems that facebook app doesn't support opening links.
Nothing you can do about it.

When I had ICS on my HTC Vivd, I had a bad experience with Firefox, then I tried Dolphin browser.
Has anyone used either yet ? Hows that working out for you?

I use Firefox specifically for a couple of sites that don't allow me to save usernames and passwords. There is an add-on that you can install that forces it to remember passwords, even if the site is configured not to. My experience has been really good with Firefox, but I only use it for limited reasons. I use Chrome as my daily driver for normal web surfing.
I used to love Dolphin, but constant force-closes made me switch back to Chrome. Good browser, although right now I'm having a strange issue where occasionally Chrome completely locks up when on the XDA website after loading a page-- I have to clear it from memory and reopen it for it to work.
I downloaded Firefox. Refreshed RAM is same as before.
With that the option to Sync all my bookmarks from my Macbook, I removed Chrome and the Stock browser and am using FF with Adblock exclusively.
Not only that it was a ram hog. It makes the device raises temperature than normal. My fave is Boat.

I also have a huge problem with this on new Nexus 7. Dolphin Browser was locking up also until i unchecked flash in settings. I installed firefox just to get around this issue. I am new Android user and cant believe that the Chrome browser, built by Google canyt navigate this site.
I actually went back to my Ipad to see and had no problems navigating XDA. Then again Ipad does not have flash.

Hi all,
I'm a day one user of the 5T that very successfully replaces my old One, except in one aspect. On specific websites (so far, Ogame and all Outlook webmails), after non-specific usage of the page, it will start to blink and get all scrambled.
I'm running an up-to-date OOS 4.7.5, rooted, but confirm the issue straight out of the box before any system edit. Has this been documented already? Here's a screencast of the whole thing happening:
Whatever you do, this specific Chrome instance is screwed and you cannot recover it. Only way out is to open a new one. It seems to get triggered when you move the page around and start pinch-and-zooming around, but nothing is sure.
Not sure if a logcat would help.
Thanks for the inputs!

I don't really wanna switch browser. I was more interested in feedbacks from other users and hypothetical fixes...

Unfortunately, no ad blocker here... Seems more related to incorrect html5 handling, but no idea why it would be device specific. Sure enough it doesn't happen on my one running LOS (btw, add lineageoslog.com to the list if websites causing this).

i've tried both on ogame (but i've no account so i just tried the home page) and outlook.live.com (with my account), both using mobile and desktop sites and i've had no issues... have you tried to clear cache and data of your chrome browser?

I just did, out of curiosity (though I did wipe cache and dalvik when upgrading days ago so I was fairly sure it wouldn't change anything). Same stuff keps happening. You're right on ogame it does not happen on the logging screen. In Outlook it's somewhat harder to trigger, I have to start writing a mail, and usually it will happen after a couple lines written. Same sh*t is happening on OnePlus forums as well. It's really a weird thing...
edit: Have just confirmed the exact same issue on a relative's OP5T, running full-stock. No root, no nothing.
edit 2: Now with a logcat of a couple seconds (https://www.dropbox.com/s/aylqw7dg2l7pup6/crash_chrome.txt?dl=0). Opening a new browser tab, going to Ogame (best way to cause the crash), a couple secodns later it's crashing. No idea what to really look for in here
Let time it updated, strange things started happening with chrome
Bump it yet bump. Not sure what to do, good is so confusing with this update for my beloved M9

Er, that's actually not true in all cases. Especially if you deactivate/uninstall chrome. Webview is needed by every app that shows you content from the internet and isn't a web browser. Without webview those apps wouldn't be working at all.
Your apps only didn't stop working because you're a chrome user and chrome is intended to function as a webview alternative/replacement on Android 7 and higher since version 51.
