They don't? Wireless tether works fine on my phone and if they didn't you would of heard more about by now. Honestly though what rom are you using since mostly all the AOSP roms I have tried the native tethering works just fine

Yeah agreed. lol
Yeah they do but my question is if you don't have a tethering plan its free isn't it to use to the native tethering...I used to use the barnacle app but it doesn't work anymore I gotta use the hotspots built into the phone

Not sure where the problem is since you use the native now...
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
No problem I'm just wondering if the native is the same as 3rd party and undetected by the carrier like a 3rd party would be
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Oh, all tethering is detected by carrier..they just can't do anything about it lol

What do you mean? How can they detect it?

I think they can detect it thru the browser you use something to do with the IP address I belive but I could be wrong

I'm not trying to say you are wrong.. but I remember my friend who used to work for Verizon say the only way they can tell is by the apk that's on stock ROMs. I also read that sometimes carriers look at the user-agent. But since devices spoof a desktop user-agent, that method doesn't work anymore.
As far as my knowledge goes, only way they can tell what is using the data is by having that little spy app knowing if it's tethering or not.

This is correct. I recently asked a tmo rep, and they can't even see a phone on their network unless it's stock. Once you put a custom Rom, it might as well be invisible to them. All they can see is how much data you're using, but not how you're using it, or even with what device. Their little spyware apks give them everything

lol tethering? it depends.. personally im rooted with a custom rom that has tethering built in that just works.

Dont need root for usb tether.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
If you want Wifi Tethering you don't need root either, try Foxfi.
Check with Sprint in order to make sure that you don't break your contract though. Obviously if it does break your contract, don't use it.
Foxfi does not work when updated to ics

That is exactly my problem as well. Foxfi was working fine until the stupid update to ICS. Anyone know any other ways to get free wifi from my phone now?

i was wondering if the roms i mentioned have built in through the roms native wifi hotspot through the sprint app ?
Don't know anything about sprint but its under settings>wireless & networks>more> tethering and portable hotspot

If you have the unlimited plan I believe its free.
Any of the ROMs you mentioned will have this built in. This use pulls from whatever data package you might have.
If the question is whether or not you need additional services from your carrier aside from your data package to use these build in tether options mentioned above, the answer is no.
sweet.

Thanks that is exactly what i was asking thank you very much!
I'm not sure if anyone else is having this issue here, but I've seached threads and still haven't come to find a resolution. I've been on JMTX ( was on the previous versions before the release, and FoxFi works perfectly. However when I try different ROMs, like DARTHSTALKER and Jedi Knight, FoxFi does not work at all. Does anyone know of a remedy for this, or is it just how these certain ROMs opperate?
It doesnt work for me either im on Cm10
Why are you guys using foxfi when rooted?

For some strange reason, believe it or not, FoxFi actually gives me faster tethering speeds.
am just wondering if other smartphones have NFC then you can transfer with other smartphone..right?what i mean is its not only s3 to s3 but you can do it with other devices..right?
Yes but you can't use sbeam. You need a third party app on both phones.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Thank you for the clarification
Correct that sbeam won't work without another S3. But Under NFC in settings you should find somethinv called Android Beam that does what you're asking.

Thanks for clarifying. I'm the only person I know at the moment who has nfc capabilities, so I never use it. Good to know.

I use it occasionally. And what do you mean "I'm the only person i know at the moment who has NFC capabilities?"
Just that no one I see on a regular basis has a device with nfc. So its a feature I haven't ever used, that's all.

There is currently a bug in samsung kernel that will allow any app to obtain root even on non rooted devices without any prompts this could be potentially be very damaging if it's a malicious app
App to verify if you are affected https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lowlevel.exynosmembug
Temp fix apk *requires root though*

I believe previous exploits like super one click involved running the apk and commands were done in terminal and adb debug had to be checked off so the user should be well aware of it running. I'm not certain but I believe this one will allow an app to get root even on unrooted phones with out access to terminal so pretty much without the user knowing. Well any how I just prefer to be safe.
I rooted jb with it

It's an easier way to root than being tethered a computer and having to use odin. Especially with the jellybean leaks.
