So my wife and both have t989's hers is running jugs and i'm running beastmod. We both have spare OEM batteries, and what i'm seeing is that every time we swap batteries, a fully charged spare battery will read 88% upon reboot(even confirmed this by charging to 100% in the phone then swapping to make sure wasn't external charger defect) but if you put it on the charger it hits 100% within a min. Has anyone else come across this with using spare batteries

Also forgot to add once it's charged to 100% it gets froze there until you do reboot and then it's normal for days doing daily charge until the next time i'm unable to charge and do a battery swap..since it's happening both our phones it don't feel like would be a phone defect as what ate the odds 2 phones under one roof have same defect and don't seem be a ROM issue as were on diff ROMs...so it's leading me to think maybe t989 in general does this?? Idk any insight would be nice

thats weird. bro..i personally wouldnt be swapping batties..the phones like to settle with the same one for little whilw if it makes sense..plus uyou can try to recalibrate the battery once it hits 100% or wipe battery stats in recovery..?

I dont swap em unless I need to...I travel alot and listen music and watch movie on plane which drains battery and can't re charge until I get in a rental car so have swap em out or have a dead phone.

I was just curious if anyone else using a spare battery has encountered this

I've seen these things all over the place, some crazy designed hexagon sticker you stick on the back of your phone or battery that's supposed to boost signal.. do these things work? if these don't work is there anything that DOES? the s3 has the worst reception of any phone I've ever used.. everyone around me will have 5 bars, ill have 0 and were all on the same AT&T network, cept I got this godawful phone.. anyone know of a legit antenna booster? if it goes under my case no one will see it anyways
'Thanks' to any useful replies!

Could be a bad phone... Take it to your local ATT store and compare signals with their display model?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I have the i9300 not the att variant so there's no way to compare. but otherwise yeah I get 0-1 bar where everyone else with att gets 4-5.. I'm hoping its just the modem, and it'll get some nice upgrade in the future, but till then, looking external help
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Change your modem I used to get 1 bar to none on att now I get 3 to 4

I don't know if this will help but it appears to have worked for me. I can't find the original post with this suggestion so I don't know who to give credit to. Pull SIM card and battery. Put them back in and see what happens. It's improved my data tremendously. Hope it works for you. I'm on Verizon in case that matters.
Currently not being productive.
To answer your question -
No, they're a gimmick. If they worked, the manufactures would put them in there themselves.
It's been proven they do absolutely nothing

I had it on my old phone, galaxy s2, but it didn't work out. I didn't notice any difference.
Faulty phone for sure because the GS3 has like the best reception I have ever had and I have owned them all in the past two years, literally. Lol
Those things are still around?! Hollyyy....
SGS3 has fantastic reception. I have had so any different phones and this one has great signal strength.
Wow they really are a gimmick? I was not planning on getting one or anything but all this time I really thought they worked.
I have sprint and the reception is bad an air rave works well at home and a good repeater for distance check into the linkys E4200 v-2

people have been cutting sims for years lol
Normally I would be flaming right beside u guys for posting common knowledge stuff. However..I have been through 4 different android phones, 2 blackberry phones and one winmo phone...all using sim cards and this is the first time I've heard of cutting up sim cards. Up until the s3 I thought all sim cards were the same size and shape

They even have SIM card cutters. I used to work for Rogers, they're insanely convenient and easy to use.
cutting SIM cards date back to the release of iPhone 4. If you never heard of it, props to you for not give a phuc about iphones.

I dont know if you guys will remember, but when the atrix came out, they were saying our old "3g" sim cards would not work in the "4g"(boy they used that term loosely) devices. If I simply cut my existing sim card and put it in my soon to be delivered red sg3, will it work with lte?
it should, dont see why it wouldnt /\/\

I had never heard of this until this phone either. So, it's perfectly acceptable that you didn't think this was common knowledge. Amazes me how some folks think that just bc not everyone is totally obsessed with their phone that makes them idiots.

Punctuation and Grammer on a forum.... virtually non-existent. Who cares, I am well educated.... But my writing style and the manner in which others compose their posts....least of my worries.

One thing I noticed is that if you cut your sim card, you don't have to pay the $36 upgrade fee for AT&T to change your active sim card. (Or at least they haven't hit me up for it yet. I ordererd my phone through amazon).
I did this, and I lost the ability to send mms, had to go get a micro sim.
- SGS 3 AT&T, and loving it!

LTE won't work with the older non-LTE SIMs.

does your LTE work? i tried this with my atrix 4G's SIM before I tried the included LTE SIM when I ordered it, and I was not able to get data on the phone.
So I don't use my phone while I'm working or if I'm in class. When I'm in class I have just Pandora going but otherwise its nothing else. Cell standby uses 82% of my batter....
Sucks getting like 2 hours of acctual use and I cant get ics on my phone

I had this problem while in training last year for my current job. The training room was a dead zone and the phone was working overtime to try to find a signal.
If you weren't relying on Pandora, I'd just recommend Flight Mode. Worked a treat for me. Maybe just try setting it to not use 4G while you're in class and see if that helps.
Nowadays, I have a 64GB SDXC card with about half of it loaded with music. Don't need TuneIn Radio (or other streaming options) unless there's a specific musical itch my collection just won't scratch.
Also, getting ICS on the 'unbreakable' AT&T phone was far easier than it sounded when just reading about it. Have a look at the various threads and just remember that 'Step 1.bat' won't tell you that it's succeeded. XD
EDIT: You know, I was just looking at that screenshot... 8 hours on the battery, and it's barely dipped at all, judging from the graph on top. '81%' just means that 81% of the drain was due to Cell Standby.
Yea it looks to me like your getting some good up time there. One thing I noticed with Pandora is the adds will cause a heck of a drain on battery and chews up quite a bit of data as well. I personally use a add blocker from the market and a app manager to keep stuff optimized. I also use a add free Pandora I found here on XDA but mainly for data reasons since I only have 3gb.
LTE can drain battery pretty good. Mine isn't as drastic as yours though.

Today I went from 65% to 30% in an hour... I want ics! another question. Can we increase the limit on how large a video we can small? Gosms allows up to 5mb I think and the quality of the sms size is horrible to say the least.

You can cut your original SIM to the micro SIM that's needed in the hox. Even the store will do this for you. They did mine too

If you go to your carrier then they can transfer your number to a micro sim, I would advise a giant cutting the sim yourself they have a habit of getting suck in the sim slot if not perfect.

I wouldn't recommend cutting the SIM (as temporally solution ok). In store you can get free replacement. The SIM which was cut will cause you signal issues. Get genuine micro SIM asap.

I didn't say its a problem. But might cause problem. With incorrect use of cutting device it might snap out a tiny bit of golden part... Imo best is proper micro SIM.

I've cut three SIMs down and regularly swap between them over the last year, no problems.
Just use a sharp knife and cut the right place. Remember, you can always take more off, you can't put it back!
Or buy a sim card cutter off ebay for 3 bucks. Awesome tool, makes professional cuts. That's what I did and now I cut Sims on a regular bases for friends and co workers.
Not sent from an Iphone but from a more sophisticated Android device.
I cut my two SIMs with sharp scissors and I have an adaptor to make it a normal SIM as I swop them between my hox. And my work sensation.
Both work perfect. Infact the hox tray is great for the fine tuning the shape as it slots in. The gold bits are just contacts around the edge connecting to the chip in the middle so be hard to break it I think. Getting the wrong shape is your worst risk so use a template off web.

BEWARE!
If you cut down a TPG sim and insert it in your HOX it will reach dangerously high temperatures and burst: into flames.:laugh::laugh:
BTW TPG really suck in all aspects of delivering a mobile service.
