how to boot in recovery without using volume button - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys
i have a major problem i have installed a corrupted rom and i can't use my phone i need to boot in recovery but my volume button does not work
and my question is how i can boot recovery without using volume buttons
N.B:my phone is turned off

While it is switched on, if it is plugged into a computer, can you see it if you run the command 'adb devices'?
If so, try 'adb reboot recovery'

NOTHING ABOUT MY Problem

As it was mentioned above: with the phone turned off, if you plug the USB cable you should see it with 'adb devices' command. the LED should light (if I remember right in blue). if it does, run the command as mentioned above...
if not... I have no idea. Maybe you can contact with the developer of the ROM...

Yes, but from what I have seen it handles 'normal' scenarios.
Also, from my experience, he was trying to get the straight answer, without the need to read tens of pages...

The picture OP posted shows that either ADB is not installed or that he is trying to run it from an incorrect location. The guide that was posted has explanations for both of those problems.

thanks guys i have solved the problem
i have installed Android SDK
then i wrote in cmd
adb
adb reboot recovery

[Q] how to update Cloclwork MOD Recovery v3.0.0.6 to v5.0.2.0

When i press volume down + Power button and go to HBoot
it tells me that i am using Clockwork MOD Recovery v3.0.0.6
i want to update it to latest version i downloaded recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-buzz and copy this Zip file on SD card and installed Clockwork MOD Recovery v5.0.2.0
i can see that it changes menu & font color into blue
but when ever i restarts or shut down the phone and go back to HBoot ( volume down + Power button ) i see the same old v3.0.0.6
any suggestions...
help
use this from your bootloader, you need to rename it pc49img.zip (make sure its not named .zip.zip) it should come up saying recovery update, flash? push volume up. after that let it boot to to the boot animations, the battery pull. take out the sdcard and then reboot the bootloader. then go to recovery and it should be up to 5.0.2.0
enjoy

Android Flasher...
I have used the following utility to flash the radio, bootscreen, and, just a while ago, the CWM recovery version to v5.0.2.0. As Buzz ain't listed on the list of supported devices, I used Other Device, booted the unit to flashboot, and flashed whichever I wanted by way of the interface.

Worst I've heard of is it just wont work unless you have the right hboot version and the right drivers etc,, just follow the guides correctly read them a few times first. I haven't heard of a bricked wildfire from unlocking and rooting as yet.

just the update.zip should do. are you definatly s-off?
yes i am s-off. still not working.
Some steps that I told to another person wanting to update their recovery.
Do you have fastboot?
do you have fastboot in with your SDK tools?
Download [RECOVERY][MOD][Wildfire][02-Nov-2011] Clockwork 5.0.2.7.111102
Extract the zip, and rename to recovery.img to make it simple in ADB.
move the recovery.img to the same folder as your fastboot is in so FOR ME it will be in C:\ ANDROID \ ANDROID-SDK \ TOOLS \ recovery.img
as fastboot is located in ANDROID-SDK / TOOLS / fastboot.exe
then follow these commands EXACTLY as I tell you.
reboot phone in to bootloader - Power off, then HOLD volume down and press power, use volume keys for up and down and select fastboot.
now, open command line and start ADB - This part I expect you to know if you have a rooted phone, but just in case run these commands: - start adb, remount, and open a shell - the commands are "adb remount", then enter "adb shell"
1) adb start-server
2) adb remount
3) adb shell
then enter the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
FINALLY, enter "fastboot reboot"
Recovery update complete... try rebooting into recovery to confirm this and it should show a new recovery
Click Thanks if this works

ADB with Jellybean

Hi, has anyone managed to get ADB working with Jelly Bean? I'm running CM10 and I can't seem to get ADB working. I've downloaded the drivers from the SDK but windows still says it can't find the driver, even when I manually specify where the driver is.
Try 1wayjonny's Universal Naked Drivers over in his thread in the dev section. It's the best. Be sure to remove all traces of the old drivers first.
Do you have a adb debugging enabled on the phone? CM10 has this disabled by default.

And I'll add adb works when you are on booted and when you are on recovery.
Adb does not work on bootloader, fastboot works on bootloader.

Even today, a friend of mine installed the naked drivers, started adb, device found
I watched him as he did it, guiding him through the commands to push, reboot recovery, the works, and Windows 7 pulled it quite well.
I don't use windows at home, but he did it without troubles at all.
So yeah. ADB has been around for ages, and it will be coming back.
And it's the second proof I see: most of these so called issues with drivers, should be handled on <insert host OS here> forums and not on xda. Most of times, users just don't get it.

Trouble connecting to computer via adb/fastboot!

I've done a lot of searching and tried the different suggestions people have mentioned on various sites but I STILL have trouble with "error: device not found" when I try to adb reboot bootloader from my computer. I was actually able to make a connection last night and then I'm not able to again today. I've installed/uninstalled and installed again both the drivers and HTC sync NUMEROUS times. It does show that my phone is being recognized on my computer, just don't know why it won't let me adb. Btw, relative noob here.
Thanks in advance for any help some kind soul might give to me.

You have the latest android SDK with packages installed ?
Or maybe some admin rights problems ?
Is there also a problem when you put the phone in fastboot mode and try various fastboot commands......or is it just adb commands ?
Not using any other extension cables ...only the one that came with the phone ?
Just thinking out loud here

[Q] "Error: Device not found" in adb.

Hello friends,
I'm trying to install cyanogenmod and no matter what I do I consistently get the device not found error when I try to use "adb push cm-10.2.0-RC1-endeavoru.zip \sdcard\"
I know that in the cyanogenmod install guide it says it's probable that it's a driver issue. I've looked around for a good 2 hours trying to find what it might be, so I've tried reinstalling htc sync, I've tried uninstalling htc sync and using koush's universal adb driver, but nothing seems to work.
When using "adb devices" it doesn't give me the error, it just gives me "List of devices attached" which is empty. (I'm not sure if this is what it is supposed to do though)
Attached img of what I've been doing.
USB debugging is on. It's been automatically turned on whenever I connect it to my PC since I updated to 4.2.2 anyway.
I have no idea where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I'm completely new to this. Do you mean normal recovery from bootloader or a custom recovery that I should of done but completely skipped due to my ignorance? (I also haven't unlocked bootloader so I'm assuming that's a misstep as well?)
Because all I get when I do the normal recovery is a picture of a phone with a red triangle and "!" combo.
Thanks
Yeah to install a custom rom it's mandatory to unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery. And what i can tell from your post it that you really are a novice on things. Some tips ?
1: never start without a full battery
2: learn fastboot + commands
3: always make a stock rom nandroid backup before starting flashing !
Read up in this forum. Under the stickys there are some nifty guides. If you have questions after that just ask here.

Thanks for the tips!
After a while of toiling to try and unlock the boot loader manually and getting stuck at the load error for Unlock_code.bin, I found Hasoon2000's tool, so he is my god for now.
My query that I have is, Do I need a custom recovery like ClockWorkMod to create a nandroid back up? Because all I get when I try to go into recovery from the bootloader is this (img attached, not mine because I don't have another camera in the house but luckily I managed to find one on google img.)
I can't find anything saying that I do need a custom recovery, but then again it's not working when I try without one, so I'm not too sure where to go from here.
Thanks again
Please read carefully what i write, i know exactly what to do !
You need a custom recovery !
Sorry to be back again so soon but I'm stuck again, haha.
When I try to flash cwm I get "error: cannot load 'recovery.img'". When I try to use Hasoon2000's tool kit to do it for me it doesn't work either as it just says device not found and in the second command window it says that it can't load it's .img file either.
The recovery.img is in the same location as fastboot. My phone is in Fastboot in bootloader.
I'm typing "r:\Android\adt\sdk\platform-tools\fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". Trying to auto complete recovery.img using tab does nothing (if that might indicate some sort of problem).
The only thing I can think of is that the MTP drivers never install properly but I read on this forum that it shouldn't affect fastboot.

Ok so I still couldn't do it manually on the other computer. Got the same errors as with the first. I tried flashing with Hasoon2000's tool again and noticed that it was trying to flash CWM.img while the recovery for it was actually called recovery.img. Renamed it to CWM.img and it flashed perfectly.
I assume it would of done the same on the original PC I tried it on.
No idea why it wouldn't work when I tried it manually, but yolo. Hasoon2000 is love. Hasoon2000 is life.
Holy hell Hasoon2000 has saved me again.
I flashed the kernal by accident and it got stuck in boot. So i just sideloaded the rom in H2K's tool and everything turned up Milhouse.
Yay congrats

And if it says can not load recovery that means it's named differently or that it's not placed in the same dir of the fastboot files. A common error is that people hide filename extensions in windows. Then rename the recovery to recovery.img.img and then it won't be found by fastboot
