Rooting Issue already S-off? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I got the Dinc2 and rooted it with revolutionary. Recently I tried to unroot the phone to get the google play update and any other updates and see how well it worked. It is awful, I hate it. So, I went to reroot it now that it is on 6. firmware and Revolutionary told me that my device is already S-OFF !! Does this mean that all I have to do is flash CWM again and I am good to go or are there other steps I need to take?
I "unrooted" by flashing the phone with the most recent stock firmware found here on XDA for the Dinc 2
Any help would be great!

Flash cwm or whatever recovery you want (through fastboot or a pg32img, ROM manager/4ext updater won't work without root) then flash an su zip in recovery, I usually use supersu, Google supersu zip and the xda thread will come up with a link.

I tried what you recommended and I got trapped in a boot loop after flashing. Now back to stock with no root but S-off

hook up your phone, rerun revolutionary, it'll ask if you want to install CWM again, say yes. then flash a radio to bootlooping, (prototype 7's guide has a radio that works) then flash superSU and any rom you want. you'll be good to go

Flash the recovery, then flash the ROM in recovery. If you're using a custom ROM you don't need to flash supersu, it will already be rooted.

When I did it I just placed the SUPERSU app or rom in the root of my SD card then installed it from recovery.

I finally got it working last night I dont know what was going wrong but the ROMs seem to have been the issue! Very odd. I got a ROM on it that seems okay for now will be trying other ROMs out today.
Thank you very much for all your help everyone! Very much appreciated!

Make LCD Incredible S-On

I have an LCD Incredible with radio version 2.15.10.07.07 and I'm trying to return it back to stock so I can sell it to a friend. I have already flashed the stock unrooted ROM (PB31IMG.zip) and it gave me back the stock recovery, I read that I should flash unrevoked-forever-son.zip via CWM but my radio isn't on the supported list and I don't want to brick the device. What should I do?

Go here and flash the 7.28 Froyo radio http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=18 that should do the trick. This is assuming you flashed the Froyo RUU.
I flashed the Gingerbread image, I didn't use the RUU because I was having problems connecting.
I believe you can still flash the Froyo radio. If not just flash the Froyo Ruu, you can also get the PB31IMG file for it at pvillcomp.com. Then flash the 7.28 radio. If you do this, the phone should receive the OTA gingerbread update.
Thanks, that's what I figured. I just downgraded to Froyo to be on the safe side.
Edit: I just flashed the S-On zip via CWM and was curious if it would replace CWM with the stock recovery, it didn't. So now I have a phone with S-On and CWM, what should I do?
Go here, grab the stock recovery and flash it in Hboot. I'm not sure if you will have to reroot first or not. Give it a shot and let me know.

You should be able to run the PB13IMGwhatver zip again and it will give you the Stock Recovery and Stock Rom.
My advice would be to run the newest Gingerbread Stock PBIMG so as to not have to downgrade, then boot, then download OTA, then run that and so on. Simply flash one PBIMG and be over with it
Hope this helps....
Yea, I figured that's probably what I could do. I downloaded the stock recovery and tried to flash it but it wouldn't go. HBoot detected it but never asked me if I wanted to apply it.

Thats because your s-on now. S-off is what enables us to flash radios and custom recoveries like clockwork. You need to do and ruu, either a PB31IMG.zip thru hboot, or the ruu.exe with a pc. That is the only way to get the stock recovery now that your s-on.

s-off / on is not the same as root. A phone can be rooted and still be s-on. However the only way to flash an unsigned file thru hboot on the incredible is with s-off. As far as i know htc has never officialy released a signed recovery only file. So in order to get the stock recovery while s-on you would have to use a signed ruu. Thats all i was trying to say.

[Q] Rooting help!

So I decided to try and unroot my htc evo 4g with this tutorial i found:
[GUIDE] How to Unroot the EVO in 2 STEPS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141&highlight=unroot
I began with the steps that just involved transferring PC36IMG.zip onto my root folder and booting into boot loader. I ran the update and everything and rebooted and my phone seemed to have factory reset. i went back to my bootloader tho to find that it still says "s-off" so i guess its still rooted? I then installed rom manager and when i go to app it says im not rooted. Im so lost and confused I assumed i need to flash a recovery so i used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026 and tried each way. none have worked.
Please help!!
Thanks

the only thing that can be flashed in the bootloader that will wipe your phone is a RUU. Flashing a recovery wont erase anything
I also did the bootloader thing and ended up getting a big "**unlocked**" and "**relocked**" symbol above the regular Supersonic EVT3 S-ON. unlock bootloader then downgrade to a earlier version of android like 2.3.3 then accept the OTA and it will say LOCKED s-on http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...18-HBOOT-with-HTCDev-com-No-More-Watermark!-) dont do the root part after you downgrade to a earlier version
I just tried this today and it should work.. Use the "HEX" zip file from this forum. Rename it PC36IMG and place it on the root of your SD card..

[Q] Flash Stock Recovery with current CWM Recovery 4.0.0.5

Hello,
I have a question that I have been searching for the last several hours for an answer. I currently have 5.10.605.9 stock with the HTC unlock method and rooted using the OneClickRoot_1.1 tool. I am not looking for S-OFF for the time being but if its necessary I'll do it. What I would like to do is remove the CWM 4.0.0.5 Recovery and replace it with the stock recovery that came with the phone. The 5.10.605.9 version has been the only version of Android installed on the phone and this is the version that it came with. Its been a while since I flashed the CWM so I don't remember exactly what guide I used, so I cannot reference that guide. There have been several guides I have come across but none that fit my exact situation or phone so I am kinda leery about following them.
I have spent several hours reading about RUU's and this seems like the easiest way but since I have the HTC unlock I cannot flash the same version I currently have, I have to have a newer version. That is my understanding at least. Is there a RUU available for the latest version, 6.01.605.05?
Since the CWM recovery was just flashed using the command line (if my memory serves me right) is it possible just to extract the recovery from a 5.10.605.9 stock build and flash that using the command line? I have a stock build and I notice a recovery_signed.img file, similar to the cwm-recovery-vivow.img file.
Well that was several questions but if anyone could be of any help it would be greatly appreciated. If its not possible its fine, I'm due for an upgrade soon anyway..... I'm just looking to be able to walk into Verizon and see about possibly getting a replacement, the speaker is starting to sound tinny and I am having and occasional 3G problem.
Thanks!!!

Thank you for your replay but unfortunately I have tried this post several times in the past, guess I should have mentioned that. However I did tried it again with the same results, "WRONG ZIPPED IMAGE". I have double checked hash as well and the name being PG32IMG.zip, not PG32IMG.zip.zip. I have used 2 different microSD cards, one being freshly formatted. Both of them are formatted as FAT32. My understanding is this error is because I currently have 5.10.605.9 and cant flash the same thing over because I have the HTC unlock.

That worked beautifully thank you. I didn't realize it was that simple. Since the warranty of the phone is up in 2 weeks I decided to take the plunge get S-OFF. Upon reading the steps for this process it says I have to re-lock the bootloader before I do anything else. Once I did this hboot read the RUU file just fine and asked if I wanted to proceed with the update. So I guess it is possible to flash RUU with the same version it just need to bootloader re-locked?? This makes no sense but I have S-OFF now and everything is good, thank you all.

[q] s-off reroot...

Last August I rooted my DHD using AAHK. No problems for a complete beginner. Had things running sweet. 4ext. tried a number of different roms. flashed radios and RILs; again, no probs. but then for some reason I returned to stock using RUU_Ace_H3G_UK_1.37.771.3_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_158897_signed.exe - still running this now.
I have S-OFF and now want to REROOT!
Is there a guide to Rerooting that I can follow or can someone give me the basic steps as I don't want to mess things up, it was a while ago since I first rooted the DHD.
1more thing... my DHD was locked to 3-UK before root. Now, I can only use Virgin, Orange, GiffGaff, T-mobile, Tesco, but not 3. this bugs! Anyone got any ideas as to why this is?
Failing that... Rerooting Toot using AAHK (if poss.) would be great cos I have a laptop dedicated/configured for AAHK already.
any HELP will be appreciated - TANX!

You don't need AAHK if you're still S-Off. If I remember correctly, to root your current ROM, just push a su manager app (like Superuser.apk or SuperSU.apk) and a su binary. Alternatively, if you want to flash a custom ROM, fastboot flash a recovery img and flash a ROM from there.

You need to get the 4ext img and fastboot flash it, not just install from apk. More detailed instructions are in the thread linked in my signature. Look in the guide in post #7, bottom of page 9, "S-Off no recovery" section.
You need to search for the apk and su binary; I don't have copies. It will only root your current ROM with no customization. If you're going to fastboot flash 4ext you don't need to bother with this, since any ROM you flash from recovery will overwrite your current ROM with the apk and su binary.
OK - kewl!

For anyone else interested in S-OFF REROOT...
GuyInTheCorner gives instructions on how to do this... ROOTING WHEN YOU'RE ALREADY S-OFF (with no custom recovery)
So if you're already S-OFF (either HTC DEV or AAHK [Ace Hack Kit]) but you're not rooted, don't despair! Its a relatively easy fix, all you need is a little time. . Now you'll have to have a card reader for this part. Using a card reader, place a PD198IMG.zip on the root of your SD Card (this means directly onto the SD Card, NOT IN A FOLDER) that contains a custom recovery. What you want to do now is to boot into HBOOT (Volume up+Power). Once you've done that it will automatically try to detect a PD198IMG.zip (which is already on your SD Card). It will flash it and you'll have yourself a custom recovery. Now using the volume buttons to navigate up and down respectively navigate to the RECOVERY option and press the power button. Now you're in your custom recovery, open the mounts section and mount your SD Card to your PC. Now download a SuperUser.zip and flash it in recovery. Congrats! You've flashed a custom recovery and are now rooted! Enjoy
If I helped, hit that thanks button!

I didn't use HTCDEV to unlock the bootloader I used AAHK to achieve S-OFF! So, I should be OK with the procedure you and GuyInTheCorner refer to - yeah?
Achieving root is easy. The hard stuff is to get S-OFF...
If you have unlocked the bootloader or S-OFF'ed, then flash SU in CWM or 4ext and that's it.

What happened? Did you try to fastboot flash a recovery.img? That should work as long as you're S-Off.
To install Superuser on a working ROM, find a Superuser.apk and a su binary. adb push the Superuser.apk to /system/app and the su binary to .../xbin, I think? There are guides around XDA.

I tried to fastboot flash 4ext by placing the 4ext/recovery zip renamed to PD198IMG.ZIP in the root path of the SDcard then vol-down&power but hboot does not pick it up.
I then tried the 4ext updater but there were errors; so I don't know what's happening - I've almost given up and thinking about updating from FROYO to GingerBread OTA as a last resort and be done with that.
I read that S-OFF should be easy to root but that's not what I'm finding.
there is not enough information about unroot by returning to stock then rerooting for me to feel confident about doing it correctly so I might just go GingerBread - period!

You just install it using a file manager and the run it. Download the lastest recovery, flash it from there and you are done.

I don't think his ROM is rooted right now. Is that still possible?

Yeah, that is one of the possiblities. However, he should be able to flash CWM in fastboot, SU and then flash 4ext as he is S-OFF.

[Q] Restore Inc1 for warranty return

I have a Incredible 1 ( s-off )
I have to restore to stock
for in warranty return.
I used unrevoked3
to s-off.
I have a GB RUU zip.
can I flash that to restore
the phone to how it was?
I need to set the s-off
back to s-on though?
Wont the RUU replace
my recovery with the stock one?
Do I use fastboot to change the flag?
Do I reflash the custom recovery
to flash the s-on.zip?

First you need to flash the froyo radio thru hboot, and then a custom recovery if you already went to stock. Then flash the s-on patch thru recobery, then do the latest ruu thru hboot. That will leave you s-on and fully stock.
can you give me a url for a radio only hboot type zip?
the phone is running ics plus and is s-off.
the hboot & radio is ics the rom is ICS+,
recovery is CWM.
a lot of the very old radios and other custom things were on
mediafire and unreachable. The referenced threads return
404 errors.
I should then hboot flash that, then fastboot flash cwm to recovery
flash the s-on.zip, then flash the s-on zip.then flash the final full
ruu zip in hboot to reset to a stock version that VZW wont give
me headaches over..the last official ICS ruu zip should be fine.
I'm guessing if I can find an RUU zip for ICS, that flashing the
s-on.zip in recovery, then flashing the ICS RUU zip (PB31IMG.zip)
in hboot, should leave the phone s-on, locked, stock ICS everything,
which VZW should be happy with since the RMA issue is hardware
related.
I don't know where to find that (ICS RUU zip) either though
thanks

There is no official ics for the incredible only gingerbread. We never got an update to ics.
OK so I need a GB RUU zip?
My intent is to restore the phone for warranty return.
Currently its s-off, locked, ICS Plus ROM, CWM recovery.
I do have the unrevoked-forever-s-on.zip file and a
PB31IMG.zip RUU file (not sure what version of
the OS its for though).,
A listing of it is attached.
its android-info.txt reads:
modelid: PB3120000
cidnum: VZW__001
mainver: 4.08.605.2
hbootpreupdate:3

Looks like froyo. Here is exactly what you need to do.
Flash the froyo radio http://dinc.does-it.net/Radios/2.15.00.07.28/PB31IMG.zip, thru hboot.
Then flash cwm http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip, thru hboot.
Then enter recovery and flash this s-on patch http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/current/unrevoked-forever-son.zip.
Then flash the latest ruu we have 4.08.605.15 http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/PB31IMG.zip, thru hboot.
Then you will be s-on, unrooted, and complete stock.
perfect thanks
I got the parts ... placed on a microsd
Worked perfectly

The latest ota won't download. Is this normal if the phone is not activated anymore?

No there is no ruu for 605.19 yet. Use to be a guy named football who use to get us all of our ruu's, but i think he moved on or can no longer get them.
You can try taking this update file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Image...WE_4.08.605.19-4.08.605.15_release_305224.zip, renaming it update.zip and placing it in your sdcard in no folders. Then boot to hboot, it might find the file and say update gift and install it.
If it dosent find it select recovery, then hold vol up and power till a menu appears. Then select install update.zip.
If that still dosent work you may need to do a factory reset from hboot first, and then try again right after with the update.zip
OK I wanted to re-root my incredible. I can't find the unrevoked modified driver. It has been crossed out and getting 404 not found. I wanted to know if anyone knows how I can downgrade to froyo so I can s-off my incredible again. Or is there any Macintosh walkthrough? Mac is my main desktop if I use windows it would be with virtual machine.

Here is the unrevoked driver if you still want it http://dinc.does-it.net/Unrevoked/UnrEVOked_Modified_Usb_Driver.zip
Thanks! I'll try it this weekend.
