How much $ to root? - HTC One X

My buddy wanted me to root his one x and I was looking for a couple of opinions on a fair price to unlock bootloader and fully root his phone for him. Thanks in advance for your input.

You shouldn't charge anything, he may even offer you something but you shouldn't ask, by this you've just told the whole community what your like.
People create tweaks, roms, scripts, tools and offer a ton of help & advice to people who have problems with their devices - all for free,
Even the guys who developed root for everyone did it for free.....

Mate I think that was the only thing you wanted to get, flamers.
You are either seriously dumb, asking in an XDA community how much to charge for someone elses work?! I mean seriously?
or wicked, trying to get a good flame out of this.
If "y'all" would see you face to face, I wouldn't even talk to you. You lack character and I do not like to talk ppl like that.

Chris I do not think he will listen to reason. Or understand the explanations.
Also OP.... you do understand that the minute you charge something you are responsible for its support and if something goes "wrong" or not according to wishes in later. He will held you responsible no matter how much you say "I do not take any responsibility"...

Oh, trust me I know.
But I also know there is a difference between doing something for free and money. Trust me on that one that there is .
Rooted, flashed my fair share of roms on buddies, colleagues phones, and never ever one of them came to me, that something is bugged.
I even had to hear from a third party that they had some issues. They never said I was at fault. Never.
However, repairing a computer and been forced, money put into my pocket with angry looks and going away, no matter how much I said I don't want it. Or getting a chocolate ...
this equals to a next call with "you know, you repaired I know, and its for sure not your fault, but could you come and have a look?"

Buck up your ideas man! XDA is an open community where people of like minded interests try to help better their phones and their lives etc...
Asking if you should charge someone to root their phone for them when the whole process was originally created by someone who released it for free is just dim witted imho.
I can imagine that with an attitude like yours you wont have these 'friends' for much longer.

Give me a tenner and I'll tell you how much to charge.

XDA is a free and open community. Send him here or do it for free.
Discussing how much money to scam from your friend isn't exactly what XDA is all about.

My phone got stolen.

Hello, today my baby just got stolen by a bunch of ********! somehow after an hour in gym at school, i look and my phone isn't there. I called it and it sounded like a jerk *****. Anyway, i tried to install Plan B but looks like he shutdown the phone or that my stupid gps isnt locking like it always does because of ICS! is there any chance i can track it? I'm a prepaid consumer so insurance is impossible.
You should call the cops and tell them its an iPhone 5 prototype and I'm sure they would get a swat team involved like they did last time.
If Gps isn't working it looks like you might be out of luck bro.

Invest in the app on play market called gotya I swear it works they try and open your phone and put pin a wrong key bam takes a silent pic of them send it to Facebook and sends you a location GPS spot in your email that you can give the police then you get your phone back

What if they know the buttons to hard reset the phone? I mean its not really that hard but the only thing you can do now is call tmo and let them know what's up. Get a police report and file an insurance claim through ASSurion. Assuming you have insurance.

98% of people who own a smartphone are complete buffoons and really don't deserve to have them. The only reason the average Joe gets an expensive piece of hardware is to have bragging rights. Most iPhone users don't know what a jailbreak is nor do android users know what a root is.

You need to complete 4 or 5 of the 7 steps and after you are going to have the 23 gbs of free space. I didn't now that so for 3 weeks I had only 2 gbs of free space until I figured out that I needed to go through the 7 steps... Hopefully that solved your problem.

go to dropbox.com and register your account.
Complete as many of the sign up steps that you can, i.e. link to facebook and twitter for extra space. I completed all the steps.
I then downloaded the dropbox app from the Play Store.
I logged into dropbox with the android app.
hey presto 5 mins later i got 23GB of dropbox space.
Yeah, it also helps if you haven't tried to cheat them with a hacked apk. Looking at that thread, some people had problems and they were fixed.
Do you have a point?

I'm not sure what you hope to achieve by ranting in this forum. Nobody here can fix it for you, you haven't explained what you've tried, and you linked to a forum that shows dropbox employees helping people who have a problem.
I can only assume you're trolling.
I'll happily retract that when you stop behaving like one.
This is not a rant I'm not going on and on. I paid for this phone unlocked. Signed into DB with I did the setup. And I have yet to get my storage. I clearly have this device and I did every single thing the set up asked. If u check my post history you'll see I actually help people. Why do I need to troll what would I get out of it. Bad move asking me to check your post history. Oh, helping people to rip off developers is questionable help. And publishing instructions on how to rip off apps shows a propensity for ripping people off.

That's not a great defence.
You may not also be aware that renting DVDs and copying them is illegal.
Downloading games and using a crack to avoid paying for them, is illegal.
Filling your car up with petrol, but obscuring your number plates and then driving off without paying... illegal.
In fact, in general, when something has a price, taking it without paying, is not legal.
Hope that helps.
I don't wish to patronise, but you don't seem to be aware of these things. Good luckout there!
Wow, this one went south fast. I agree with BenPope that an enormous amount of people w/o HTC phones tried to scam Dropbox so their probably a little bit bitter.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Drop...HTCs-25GB-of-free-cloud-storage-promo_id28784
But it's still sort of strange that with a One in your hands you can't get the extra storage activated. I agree the extra steps are a pain and kind of take away from it being "free" but it seems like most people that plod through them get the extra storage they're entitled to. Why don't you wipe the phone and start over with a brand new Dropbox account? Once you get the promo storage amount you can have it merged back in to your existing account.

That's exactly what I did. Couldn't get the extra storage no matter what I tried, so set up another dropbox account using my secondary Gmail address, got the extra storage, merged it with my initial dropbox account.... Sorted. Didn't even have to jump on xda and have a moan about it

When I first bought the phone I thought I was cheated too. But it wasn't the case. Make sure you complete the quick start guide. If I still remember correctly you have to complete 5 out of the 7 steps and the 25GB is credited to your account. It took me a lot of hassle but I assure you that you get what you deserve.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I didn't have a problem getting the storage... And I originally got it from installing a sense 4 rom on desire hd (!) so don't think the type of one x you have makes a difference. It did take a couple of days and was a bit weird but eventually worked. Just make sure you activate with the dropbox app and do the rest through the computer. I'm sure dropbox will sort it out and a small claims court won't be necessary.
OT: I appreciate that 'stealing is wrong' but let's not give viirus a hard time over that - ignorant and stupid thing to post here, he's apologised, let's move on. I'm sure he's also purchased stuff from the playstore as well... There's is a discussion thread on here about making N.O.V.A. 3 run well on the One X. Lots of well respected members seem to be involved in that discussion and the last time I checked, Gameloft games don't work on the One X. So I'm not sure where they got that game from... I buy things from the playstore, I buy music from record shops but I've also used piratebay. I don't think many people here can say that isn't the case for them (unless they are super-rich ).
I'm playing devil's advocate a bit here so please don't flame me!!!
Can't we all just get along?

You realize how much you just got played right? Not only did that little iphone button get you to stay on their website longer; it got you to take a screenshot of it and then go to a Nexus forum and post on there causing even more people to see their website. AND you are going to contact customer service at vzw in which case they will then try to sell you something after reading your pointless email.
Seems like VERY effective marketing strategy to me.

For what its worth of you look at the battery stats it looks like android os is killing alot of battery which is an ice cream sandwich bug. Dont know if it actually does kill as much as it states but. it could indicate something isnt allowing the phone to sleep properly. Sup people, Im Brian D, just got this phone Wednesday. Came from a HTC Evo4G that was way overdue for upgrade. I absolutely love this phone so far. As stated, the only thing that's not excellent, is the camera, which is decent...but far from awesome.
As far as speed, the phone seems like it knows what I'm gonna do before I even do it...it's so fast it's just crazy. I rooted on the first day, tweeked it a lil bit and did a quadrant test just out of curiosity and got this 7736...mind BLOWN! That is unreal, especially when the max I ever got outta my Evo was around 1200.
Also, my battery life has been excellent so far. Don't know what some of you guys are having issues with. On Eco-mode, and with moderate use aka not TRYING to burn my battery, here is where I am now...with battery left to spare. Overall, I'm loving this phone. It was between the Samsung GS3 and this phone for my upgrade and went with this because of future potential. I'm sure the bootloader will be unlocked soon...too many smart people out there are already trying to make it happen. And once it is unlocked...imagine the possibilities with this monsterous piece of hardware!!

I am on the Sprint Employee plan (the wireless advantage club) and I want to get this phone and have an upgrade but it won't let me purchase. They say my account isn't allowed to get it yet. But I see that you guys are actual employees and have it. Did you buy it unlocked or something? Thanks.
I'm Tony from Ohio. I've been a lurker here for a few years now. This is only my second Android smartphone and I absolutely love it. Can't wait to see the bootloader unlocked and a big thanks to everyone working towards it!
To the sprint employees. Maybe yall can answer. Is sprint blocking Google wallet or is wallet not going to be compatible with LGOG

To be honest that means somebody on your plan has an outstanding balance or balance that needs to be paid, I had prob 10 people at one point and no one paid there bills on time , some people didn't understand how the program worked and way over spent it was just a nightmare, so now its me and the wife that's it. I got mine through my outside account and then swapped it on to my line NP as I wasn't able to upgrade but it says it is available through swac accounts. Did the person that your under order it for you or send you the swac link to shop or are you just trying to upgrade on sprint.com ?

Hm, well I do have an outstanding balance for my monthly bill due on the 27th that I was going to pay this weekend. I found out today that the Employee I'm under has to order it for me so he's going to check soon. I have an upgrade, so if I pay my bill will he be able to order it for me? Some people say employees can't get it yet.
My whole story: Ordered HTC Evo 4G LTE on Nov 2. Got it a week after (hit by Sandy :/). Sense is slow and buggy and I love the hardware, hating the software. But since I still was in 14 days and I really really wanted this phone, decided to cancel. Waiting for my return kit for this phone but I need a phone to hold me over when that comes since no one would let me order the Optimus G. So basically, I have the EVO now, and I'm waiting till the G is available. I'll be returning this EVO by Thanksgiving so I really wanted the G by then. If not, I may be phoneless for a couple days since I have no previous Sprint phone as this is my first time with them. Ah well.
I appreciate the insight.
Yea even tho its a lil cheaper advantage lines become a pain in the butt , its easier and almost as cheap to just send friends a link to the referral program

Yeah they cost anywhere from .99¢ - $10.00. You probably spend more on coffee in a day.. Support the developers....

You know what the funny part is? People are quick to jump on and flame someone who posts things like this. Although it IS against XDA policy.. the kicker is that more than half of you have have downloaded a pirated app or 2 in the time you've owned an android phone. Don't be hypocrites. Just pm a mod and they'll close the thread. Done deal.

Yep, I'm sure I could find some of these apps to pirate, but they are more than reasonably priced, and I am very hopeful that money truly does go where it belongs (to the bright minds that make them). Especially after taking an intro college course to programming and finding out that I have no idea how complex these programs really get. The best backup app is less than $10, certainly don't get that on windows.

I call bullsh*t. Piracy is one of the biggest crimes in the world and EVERYONE has done it at some point or another. Whether it be an app, a movie, music album or game. Not condoning it, just being real. Don't kid yourself.

There is a difference between silently downloading a paid app for free and bragging about it to the world like you are some badass that knows how to use Google or torrents or whatever.
For the record, I have downloaded pirated apps but have replaced all of them with the paid parts from the store.
I usually only download a pirated app to try it out if there is no free version. But sometimes I can't find the latest version and give up. If the apps worth the money/ I wanna support the dev I have no problem paying.
I do enjoy my hassle free updates that's for sure

Whoa. No one said I was bragging about that lol. I was simply stating that a large percentage of people have taken part in it and I find it hard to believe when someone says that they have NEVER done so. Taking people's hard work and not paying a dime for it is a shame and if I was a developer I'd be very angered with piracy. Look at the Dead Trigger devs. Those guys are pissed beyond belief and I don't blame them. I pay for my apps now, but back when I was naive and ignorant I took my part in piracy too. Don't twist my words around dude lol I do not condone piracy especially since apps are dirt cheap.
Except that launcher that cost about $20. That's just insane lol

I agree with you that is wrong but because everyone does it doesn't mean u can say everyone else does it to. I been paying for apps since 2010 and I never really felt to pirate anything Like that before because I have the money to pay for it. And plus I was one of those guys that payed for dead trigger and it ended up being free and I was pissed.
