Nyan Colonel was originally created for the Epic 4G as an effort to bring all of the features from other Hummingbird devices to the Epic. Now I have used my upgrade on a Galaxy Nexus and have been trying many different kernels and every one seems to have some features and be missing others. I have attempted to add as much features I can while still keeping the kernel lean and fast with great battery life. This does not require you to be some crazy linux enthusiast in order to modify, or charge you for an app capable of tuning it. It comes with the trickstermod app in order to tweak the kernel to your needs in case the preset settings don't fit your user type.
If you need help, feel free to gtalk me, I don't bite (most of the time): [email protected]
Also, if you feel I have helped, up my rep or even donate

Bold = Default
CPU Governors
PegasusQ - A mix of performance and battery life that hotplugs the cpu at low use
Interactive - Boosts frequency based on load put on by the user. Modified to also boost on touch of the screen.
Ondemand - Basic scale on demand governor with no hotplugging
HotplugX - Ondemand modified to hotplug at low use and screen off
Wheatley - Basically ondemand (scales depending on demand) that is modified for performance
Lazy - Basically conservative (scales gradually depending on load) that is modified for performance
Schedulers
SIO - A mix of NOOP and Deadline made for flash memory, like the GNex has
BFQ - Currently experimental. For heavy IO load
CFQ - Attempts to distribute the disk fairly among processes
Deadline - Imposes a deadline on processes to prevent lack of resources
NOOP - Simplest scheduler. Good for flash memory.
CPU Frequencies (MHz)
230, 384, 729, 1030, 1228, 1305, 1420, 1536, 1612, 1728, 1804

stock 307 however you can overclock it with the file located at /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/gpu_oc change it to 1 = 384mhz and 2 = 512mhz it applies instantly no rebooting required and will reset upon reboot.

It's fine... and if you using it for 2 hours straight.. duh thats what happens especially on 3g OR Wi-Fi. Kernel does not suck a s s .. and if your saying it does.. then your saying every other kernel he took cherry picks from sucks as well... -_-

Sorry but okay thanks for the tips ill try that and respond back

Same here, lol I hope this kernel improves my battery life, either that or this phone battery just sucks. I miss my epic.

I initially tried the pegusus setting but my battery life was absolutely horrible, I have now switched to wheatley, which is what I have used on the kernel I was using before this one and battery life seems much better. Can anyone recommend any other settings that might help improve my battery life without killing my performance? Using wheatley on 1.3ghz max frequency with SIO.

I'm curious as to why you're even overclocked? I run 1ghz for everyday things. I'm trying to figure out which governor is best for me, pegusus sucked my battery life to, trying interactive which is met to be more geared to better battery life, I'll try wheatley next.

Really? I hate when people complain about the battery life of this phone. My roommate also has a galaxy nexus and last week he pulled 1day 9 hours .... completely stock. I never drop bellow 30% on a daily basis. Just cut your data when you dont use it.

It depends on you as the user how you use your phone.
I'm nearly constantly on it because its basically my PC.. I can suck out at least 4 hours of screen on time. Probably can suck out 2 days with light use.
But indeed.. to call this battery ****ty is an outrage. Its 10x better than my Incredible which can't even last an hour.

the 3 minutes were tested under heavy duty - frequent task switching, video streaming and file system stressing. I'll update the document once I find any unstable voltages, so please come back for updates if you wish.
btw, everyone's phone is different, so the voltage settings may not work on all phones.

If you wanna take the time to play with the voltages, you will get better battery life than using SR. I watched SR and it was running a good 75+mv higher across the board than when I underclocked it. Its been just as stable and smooth manually undervolting.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I was reading about few people showing undervoltages and stuff but I get really lost I dont want to mess up my phone.
I am running the lean kernel or imoseyon and I flashed it via the franco kernel app it has his kernel and the one I said.
Now I have no idea which settings to choose and which are safe... can anybody help me out?

Its a reference for others, not a "guaranteed to be the best voltages" chart.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I've used these as a good reference.
The voltages have been stable on my Galaxy Nexus. They are good to reference. In most cases the most I could undervolt from these settings was 25mV. So far, I've had pretty good battery life. I'll definitely vouch for houzuoguo's spreadsheet.
Anyone have real statistics and battery readings that prove undervolting is even worth the effort?
where is the test? i dont see any testing

I'll try to do some identical real world testing with my normal usage with Smart Reflex on then with my undervolt settings. I should be able to report back in a day or two.
The Results
Okay, so here are my results:
ROM: AOKP build 36
Kernel: Franco 166
Governor: Interactive
SmartReflex enabled
CPU: 192MHz to 1036MHz
Battery: Stock 1850mAh
3G on when screen is on with occasional LTE usage. Never used WiFi.
The first 3 attachments are without undervolting.
Attachments 4-6 show my undervolting settings.
The last 3 attachments are with my undervolting settings enabled. FYI, I used the saved values for the last 3 attachments.
If anyone wants anymore information on app usage just let me know. I have a few more screenshots, but didn't feel like uploading a ton of files.
I'm not sure if these results are sound, but I just updated to AOKP build 38 and Franco Milestone 4 kernel. I'll continue to test and see if these results are consistent.
Doesn't look much of a difference with doesn't it? according to CPU Spy and screen on time, as well as looking at 384MHz and 1036MHz CPU.
Thanks for the suggestions Houzuoguo. I am running LiquidSmooth-ICS-v1.5mr1 and Franco Kernel Milestone4
I took your settings and raised them all by 25.
I used Set CPU to set them and i also set the CPU to ondemand and dropped the CPU speed to 1036.
Are you using Set CPU to do this?
My Results
Thanks you very much BrandT90!! I tried some of you settings and changed some values. It's incredible. 11 hours!!! :good:
Look at the screenshots
ROM: Paranoid Rom 2.16
Kernel: Franco Milestone 5
Governor: Ondemand
SmartReflex enabled
CPU: 230MHz to 729MHz (but I use the schedule feature in SetCPU for Apps which need more CPU)
Battery: Stock 1850mAh
I set my brightness to automatic and tweaked the settings in cm10.
3G/Wifi: Juice Defender manages them.
Without undervolting I had the same results like BrandT90. (Look at his first 3 screenshots)

Best ROM/Kernel combo for battery??/

I'm using the Verizon GNex running CM10 Kang with GLaDOS Kernel, and to put it simply, my battery life sucks. It drains 50% in about 2/3 hours.
How can I make it last longer???
Thanks!

paranoidandroid with trinity 307 gpu has been amazing for me
AndroidME + Trinity
I get horrendous battery life on just about every rom and kernel I try that's just a gnex I guess, that being said air kernel has significantly increased my battery life on any rom I use it on. Settings I use are 1200 max 230 min smartass2 governor and sio scheduler
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I don't think that there is much difference between Custom rom and Adroid versions, I noticed that JB seems to be more of a power drain hog than ICS.. But as usual it mainly depends on your personal usage and the main drain source is (then) always the screen.
Lowering the screen brightness will have more effects than kernels and custom roms

[ROM+KERNEL] AOSP+ Battery & Speed

The goal of this ROM and kernel is to tweak voltages as much as possible and adding overclocks where necessary. I first aim for extra battery life and then the speed improvements will arrive.
Reason for starting this ROM is that I want my own stable ROM, with extra battery and speed just the way I want it.
init.d will never arrive. Don't ask for it.
Instead of making a github account I will upload my patch sets to comply with GPL, other developers can use these patches easily
Features
- More speed
- More battery
- Tweaked governors
- Removed crap

First build is here
I uploaded it on rapidgator and zippyshare.
You will have to manually install root and gapps those who want it. I barely use root.
I also posted links on my website to superuser and gapps. Don't worry about having to flash too much.
Don't forget I do not intend to make this the most popular ROM on XDA.
Changelog is:
- Heavy CPU or MPU undervolt. I have made smartreflex calibrate 50mV above my crashing level.
350mhz
780mV vs 830mV
700mhz
930mV vs 1000mV
920mhz
1020mV vs 1090mV
1200mhz
1140mV vs 1200mV
Depending on how this goes I will soon start GPU Core undervolting. Since OPP100 for the GPU is used for 700mhz/920mhz/1200mhz CPU those who use their phone much will benefit a lot from this. I have also found with my MPU and Core undervolt that temperature was about 15C less. And my Nexus felt a lot more comfortable in my hand because it wasn't so warm.

[Q] governors and schedulers

I was wondering which governors and schedulers are the best for say performace or battery? I've done a little research on my own, but what do you prefer on your HTC One V? I've got aokp JB running on my cdma one v
Thanks!
I am a kernel dev, so naturally I know whats behind this code Lionheart is my favorite as it has aggressive scaling. No lag is also good, in some cases. On demand is great with battery though. I can get roughly 8 hours mid use with on demand. I hope this helps with deciding your governors.

Hey Simon! I'm actually running your 3.0.46 sick kernel JB with AOKP. It's wonderful!! haha so far, I've been running OC at 1708 with the performance governor and noop scheduler... it's lasted 11 hours and I'm at 73% battery, medium to light use with wifi on the whole time, but it's pretty snappy!
Is Lionheart pretty much a performance governor? You mentioned aggressive scaling, so it's snappy when it needs to be, but saves for battery when you're not using it?
BTW I didn't see a "no lag" governor... not sure what that is, so can you clarify? Also, is performance actually the best for snappiness, or will lionheart be even better? I used to use [email protected]$$v2 on my optimus v, but I'm just not sure what's best here?
Nolag is a new addition. I have been hard at work removing even more htc things Lionheart is a bit nicer on battery then performance, because it will scale to your minimum of its not needed. Perfoance stays at full no matter. Cpu spy will be a good tool to help with battery as well
Sent from my One V using Tapatalk 2
Oh kool! Well I don't see it in the latest kernel, so will it be in the next kernel? Thanks dude, you're awesome!
I'll fill everyone in on this thread on the work.
We are :
Patching to Linux 3.0.49
Removing htc additions that are hacks and ics specific.
Cleaning Bluetooth and header files up
Updating WiFi drivers
Updating GPU drivers
Overhauling the mmc drivers
We also have a driver dev that's working on camera and maybe eventually an lcdc driver which will allow us to use the experimental caf display needed for cyanogen mod10 and full project butter

[Q] CPU Temperature exceeding 80°C! How dangerous?

Hi guys,
I understand that some heat when running resource intensive applications and games is to be expected but I believe I've passed into the danger zone, so to speak. When playing XCOM my CPU temperature quickly exceeds 80°C. From my googling on the matter I have come to assume that a temperature as high as 80°C is dangerous for the hardware of the device, but I have had trouble finding upper threshold limits for the model itself.
I guess my questions are as follows:
1) How damaging would running the CPU at 80°C for an extended duration (1hr +) be?
2) What would you consider the max acceptable CPU temperature to be?
3) Assuming it is as bad as thought, what are my options to reduce the CPU temperature, short of avoiding the problem applications? Underclocking seems to be a common suggestion, but I get the feeling that XCOM, or similarly taxing applications, may just fail to run or become incredible sluggish under such constraints.
My device is rooted and running Lean Kernel v2.4 along with the w03Slim ROM. Found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2638116
I've done similar test runs in the Temasek kernel with the recommended configurations through Trickster Mod and there is no difference, the CPU still exceeds 80°C when playing XCOM. After a week or so of googling, searching the forums, and digging through device manuals I feel like I'm spinning my wheels.
Any insight or advice you all might have is greatly appreciated.
Solved!

Agree with this post, conservativex is a great governor to keep your cpu in check and not over throttle itself, also check out my thread I made here awhile back and apply the 8th post down. It really helped keep the temp down on my phone when playing graphically intensive games like dead trigger 2,riptide gp2 etc. Also if you have trickster mod or faux clock(really recommended) you can scale down your max frequency, that should really help keep it cooler and you won't see much of a performance drop (if any) while gaming or heavily using your phone.
