[Q] Cloning SD card - HTC Wildfire S

Hi guys,
I just bought 16GB microSD card for my phone and I want to clone the 8GB one that I'm using now.
I'm using CM7.2 and have 512MB ext3 and a linux swap partitions, so I want to clone everything. I've tried with HDD Raw Copy, but after that I cannot resize my FAT32 partition with the remaining 7GB... (tried a couple of partition managing software).
I have a wild idea, but I'm not sure it will work.
Can I do a nandroid backup on my 8GB card, then copy all the contents from the 8GB FAT32 partition to the 16GB card(already partitioned) and insert the new one and do a nandroid restore? will that work to "fill" the ext3?

You can try MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition it has a copy and resize functions.

As I said I've tried a couple of partitioning softwares Minitool Home and Pro and Paragon Partition manager.
when I clone the card the remaining Unallocated space is unusable... somehow... I cannot add it to the already copied partition

Try to use EASEUS TODO BACKUP. It gives perfect option to CLONE the entire memory and after that you can resize very easily in next steps after cloning. send me a PM if you cant. I will give you step by step instructions...

[Q] Chaining SDHC Card

Hey guys,
i will buy me a new bigger sd card for my desire (currently im using the 4gb sdhc card wich was included).
no i got two tiny questions:
1) my 4gb is a goldcard. are any problems known if i use the goldcard utility on the new card? e.g. the desire remembers only the "first" one?
2) what about my ext. partition? wich is the easiest way to "plug'n'play" the new card? i have no experience with ext partitions on windows systems. is it enough to install a ext driver to read it and just simple copy/paste the files? or should i use a existing nandroid backup after creating a ext partition on the new card?
thx for the answers!
regards,
sualfred

1) No, there SHOULD not be any problem...
2) You will not be creating an EXT partition on the whole SDCARD... The EXT(2/3/4) space is meant for APP2SD - meaning your programs will be installed there (if you have a ROM supporting this). The rest of your SDCARD will/should be a normal FAT32 !

windows cannot read the ext file system, if you want to copy and paste your files like that you will have to use a linux live cd

[Q] Ext3 on 16gb SD Card

Hello.
I have bought a new SD Card (kingston 16gb Class4).
I had a lot of problems with ext3 make. By Gparted it have errors.
I have readed this topic.
Can I repair my SD Card?
Sry for my english.
How are you connecting the card? Via a card reader or still in the phone? If it's still in the phone make sure you are in recovery and not booted in to android.
I made it by card reader. Formatting and partitioning by recovery - errors.
Have you tried erasing all the partitions and creating them again? What happens if you click the 'Repair' button?
I've always done my partitioning with my card in the phone, connected to my PC while in recovery and used Minitool Partition Wizard for Windows (this software was suggested in a thread I read a while ago) and never had any problems.
There is also the possibility of the card having a hardware problem, so you might need to swap it under warranty.
yes, first i have erased all partitions (deleted)
On repair ext - error, fat32 works fine.
first make an extended partition for your fat32 and inside that a primary fat32.
The unallocated space make it ext3

shouldn't both partitions be primary (no extended ones)?
erase everything 1st keep it unformatted then create fat32 primary then ext primary (optional linuxs swap) this is what i have done when installed miui rom data2ext
i suggest you dont use that card reader try through the cell....
I have tried a lot of methods - ext still no works.

Where did you get the card from?
Stupid question but two of my friends bought cheap (fake) cards from eBay and both had problems with them, either the card kept losing data or they go errors loading from the card due to the poor quality. In which case you need to spend a little more and get a proper card from amazon on a high street retailer.
If not then as suggested use try formatting and partitioning the card through the recovery on your phone, most of the up-to-date recoveries can do this and it's the easiest way to get the card ass needed for a2sd etc. if it still doesn't work then take the card back it's probably faulty.
I bought this card too and even though I had no issues formatting the card I do have speed issues with it. I've been in contact with Kingston and they're looking into it. My writing speed is 1.6Mb/s....
But now a tip for you, I couldn't use Gparted since it's Live CD wont start my monitors. So I downloaded Easeus Partition Master. Very easy to use and it worked perfect.
Start with your Fat32 partition and then your Ext partition.
You can find the program here: http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html

How to clone Microsd card ?

I just got a new 16gb Microsd card and want to shift everything from my old 8gb one....thing is i used the old one for AP2SD and Davlick to SD.....is there any way to "clone" the card so that i dont lose any apps and settings ?
put the old card out of the phone
insert it into a cardreader
start a linux of your choice(maybe Gparted-livecd) and mount your hdd and the sd-fat32 and sd-ext
now copy everything from the 2partitions on you harddisk
unmount the sd
put the new one in
if you use already use gparted its easy, make at the first part (left side) the fat 32 partition
than partition the rest as ext (would suggest ext-3 best suported) ~1gb
after this move the fat part on the fat partition and the ext on the ext partition
you should be done
good luck
Sounds easy!
Just had a question relating to this, would buying a class 6 SD card make much difference to the speed of the phone for a CM7 rom compared to a class 4 card?

Well, it sounds easy, but I'm afraid it is not. (it seemed to me like my ROM held some kind of partition table with it, in which was defined how big the partitions were and which filetype they were in).
So after partitioning my new SD-card, different size and lay-out, my Phone did not want to mount the SD-card...
I tried this before and it didn't work.
I ended up doing a disc to disc copy (image cloning) from my 8gb to 16gb sd and only then it worked.
I used Acronis true image to get the job done.
http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/
Burn this iso on disc, insert both SD-cards in pc and boot from the hirens boot disc. Then select imaging tools in the menu, select acronis
In acronis you select disk to disk copy or disk cloning and then select source (old SD), then proportional cloning, then select destination (new SD).
Should take about an hour.
If you need help, shout plz.
I will try to make a tutorial when I get home from work, or maybe later.
Grtz!

Hi,
Well not that much.
The class stands for max Mbps write or read spead, can't recall which of them two... so it makes a difference, but not that much.
From 4 to 10 makes much more difference
Grtz!

[Q] [Solved] Switching from a 8Gb µSD card to a new 32Gb µSD

Hello all
I ordered a new µSD card on Amazon (28,63€) for my Desire HD, a Transcend Class 10 32 Gb (TS32GUSDHC10), and will receive it tomorrow.
I have freshly reinstalled the CoreDroid 9.4 rom + Link2SD and a lot of apps, my actual µSD card is the 8Gb Samsung provided with the DesireHD.
My Samsung 8Gb µSD card is partitionned like that:
|--FAT32~6,4Gb--|--EXT3(or 4?!)~1Gb--|--Swap-~128Mb--|
What is the correct method to switch to the new µSD card without loosing anything ?
Thanks!
I think two ways are possible. The first - you get your card, put it into a cardreader, make partitions as they were, for example 1GB ext4, swap 128mb and the rest is FAT32. And just copy your stuff from one card to another. (The only problem here is that you need linux to access your ext4 partition). Also you can try to use something like Acronis Disk Director Suite. It can copy partitions (in your case i think it's better to make a backup of partitions and just restore them to 32GB card) and after restoring just change the size to something bigger. Also Titanium Backup can be a way out. Though i don't know how it works with Link2SD. Just don't delete anything from 8GB and if one way doesn't work, you'll be able to try another.
I did this recently, I however put the new card and start with a fresh rom install.
As Slavon-93, you can partition your card first and then copy files from one card to another. To read your ext3/ext4 partition, you can use ext2fsd, ext2read or Linux Reader. I personaly used ext2fsd for a long time without any issue, for both reading/writing.
Make a backup before, image of your partition or whatever and test
(Hi neighbour ! )
hello
i used this way to change between a 16 gb sdcard to 32 gb sdcard, using android revolution hd 7.3 without lost apps or data
0. create a nand backup with clockworkmod recovery or 4ext recovery
1. burn a live cd or use a usb to run ubuntu(the latest version)
2.COPY your data from your fat32 and ext3(4) to the desktop pc (also works on laptop ) in separate folders do not mix fat32 and ext3 data.
3.insert your 32 gb sdcard to the pc and open the program GPARTED
4.format your 32gb in this way (obviously chage the amount of your first partition to 28-30 gb may vary depending on the real size of the 32gb sdcard create your second and third partition like the 8 gb sdcard)
(in gparted program you can look if your second partition is ext3 or ext4 use the correct, the same in 8gb sdcard )
|--FAT32~xx,xGb--|--EXT3(4)~1Gb--|--Swap-~128Mb--|
5.after you format your 32 gb sdcard you NEED TO COPY your data from your pc to your 32 gb sdcard copy the
6.you can easily copy your fat32 data to your sd card but when yo want copy ext3 data you need make the following steps(linux write protects the ext3(4) partitions )
-open the TERMINAL program on ubuntu
-write in terminal:sudo nautilus
-when open a window like file explorer search for mounted ext3 partition on sdcard an do left click
-open properties then permissions and grant root acces and write rights for all the users (otherwise the ext3 partition will only be in read mode)
7.after you copy all the data to your sd card(the fat32 data to your fat32 partition an your ext3 data to your ext3 partition thi will be ready for insert in your android phone
remember NO ERASE your data for your 8gb sdcard until you are safe that this method worked, you can look in link2sd the information of your sd cards partitions and open apks that you are safe that are linked on sdcard
good luck
sorry for my english
Thanks for all advices!
As expected, I received the 32Gb µSD card today
My DHD is now fully working with the new µSD card! That was easy.
I proceeded like that:
On the DHD: Full backup the old 8Gb µSD card! (I used ROM Manager and CWM Recovery)
With an external card reader and PC with Ubuntu: copy both the fat32 and the ext3/4 partition from the old 8Gb µSD card into separate folders of course (for example /home/documents/sddata and /home/documents/sdext)
On the PC: launch gparted as root and create 1 fat32 partition ~29,6Gb + 1 ext4 partition ~1Gb on the new 32Gb µSD card
On the PC: copy the files from the PC to the new µSD into their respective partitions
Boot the DHD and launch Link2SD to check if everything is fine

I prefer U can simply format your new card from phone & COPY & PASTE all stuff to it from old Card as it is.
(As same i follows whn buy new card & it works same as old card)
If you have 32GB SD Card, i think it'll be better if you create 2nd partition (EXT4) & 3rd partition for swap file.
You can read more details & find the tutorial from here or here. :good:
It's very useful since One V's internal memory is a lil bit small...
Thanks guys
I made 3 partitions
3gb Ext2
10gb Ext4
Remaining 18gb Ext4
I don't understand actually but I made like this
Is it OK?
Here's my opinion, hope it can help..
1st partition: 25GB FAT32 (Primary). It is for your main storage, such as video, music, photo, etc.
2nd Partition: 5GB EXT4 (Primary). For Link2SD. Make sure your kernel support EXT4. if it's not, then just make EXT2.
3rd Partition: 1GB Swap File (also Primary).

Well i never try to only copy & paste my files from the old sd card to the new one, so i'm not really sure whether it'll works perfectly or not..
But i think you can't just simply paste your files from your old sd card (without 2nd partition) to your new sd card (with 2nd & 3rd parttion),
because of the differences of the file system & the configuration within the old & the new ones. Except if you have the same setting & configuration between those two from the beginning.
So to play it safe, i guess you only able to paste your non-system file from your sd card...CMIIW
i thought there isnt any kernel which supports SWAP on one v yet .. the TITANIUM KISS only has a script to use 130 MB in the internal EMMC as Swap .. does making a swap partition in the SD help ?
