Hi my galaxy S3 is having a problem with its charge. Sometimes when I charge it it gets really hot, but still goes to a hundred percent. But once I unplug it it changes to a lower number like 30%, then 100%, then stays at another value like 65%. anyone else have similar problems? or solution. Im using sonic R6 with trinity. Never had issues prior.
Edit: the battery is losing its charge really fast, meaning the percentage is dropping quickily
Get a new battery and try a different charger make sure you train your new battery for a couple of days

I've had the phone for a month already, only now the problem pops up.
Have you installed any new apps, changed any settings, flashed roms radios or kernels, recently?
Have you used anything other than the charger AND cable that came with the phone?
Pull the battery. Do you see any bulges, pits or blemishes? Rub your fingers across it to feel for this stuff too. (You will feel some inconsistencies, but shouldn't be any major ones).

Lately, when I plug the phone in, it shows it's charging but the percentage won't increase. I'be tried different outlets and everything. Sometimes it will actually decrease if I'm using it.
I have to restart several times and do battery pulls etc to try to get it to charge properly. It's becoming really frustrating. I'm not sure if it's a software issue or a battery issue or what. It's happened on different ROMs though so I don't think it's rom related.

Same thing has been happening to me, I'm on juggs right now and sometimes it will charge right, and other times it won't. It is really annoying, i was thinking of buying another battery, but I doubt it's that since it discharges normally

I have idea
I have same problem that phone discharging timely at the rate when automatically discharging(10-20 min). I not have idea how to fix. Then i switches off the phone then leave charging... After 5 min i restart it then go to/open root booster (previously installed) then activate the simple battery mode then for action i reatarted phone then it's charging. Thanks for root booster app developer.
try calibrate ur battery...if that dint work buy a new one
So about 4 months ago my phone starting having charging issues.
I am running Juggs 5.0.
I switched to AKOP, didn't love the interface so I switched back to Juggs. I have tried everything, New battery, different charger, darkside super wipe, nandroid back to stock, back to Juggs, only added the apps I needed.
Sometimes it charges but usually only about 35% - 45% before it stops and then starts sucking the battery away. Now I can get it to start charging again if I reboot, but again it does the same thing.
Can anyone help me out or do I need to send it to Samsung?

New Battery? you should check if the battery is ok, I judge that it must be the problem of your battery, you should choose an original battery.
Both batteries are good they charge fine in my fiancee sgs2. Wondering if it's the socket where I plug in... Grrr so frustrating

Hi All,
So recently I have been having problems with my battery life. It's not lasting as long as it should. However, I do not know whether or not its my data cable, the device that plugs into the wall, my battery, or the charging port in my phone.
I got my phone from best buy, but it was more than 30 days ago, and I have no insurance on it, so I cannot get a replacement without sending it away for at least $100.
Any tips?
Well what battery life are you getting? Get into the Phone settings and then battery settings and post a snapshot of the graph here. Additionally you can also install Batterystat it will give you a full analysis of what's using up your battery power.

I think I may have narrowed it down to the battery itself? I have some battery apps that tell me the health is "good," but what does that really mean? My charging cable is iffy, because sometimes it works perfectly, charging to 100 just fine. However, other times it charges 20 percent in 9 hours. When I used my friend's Note II charger, it worked perfectly every-time. But the fact of the matter is, when my phone does charge to 100 from my cable, I still get not the best battery life, which leads me to believe it's my battery's fault. I am going to test out charging my phone to 100% with my friend's cable tonight, and see what happens tomorrow. I will also get batterystat and report back.
Also, this may be important. When I first got my phone, battery life was AMAZING, really quite astounding. It's just kind of dropped down, like a slope. Not a sudden, dramatic drop, but incrementally.
As for the battery info below, here is what went on today. I unplugged my phone from 100% at around 7am. It is now 6pm. Today, my phone was barely used, just sitting in my pocket with wi-fi on. When I did use it, I sent two very quick emails, played scramble with friends for about 45 minutes total, took a few photos, listened to music from the music player for about 15 minutes, and that is really all I did. I feel that my percentage should be much higher than what it is listed as.
Here's mine as you can see I'm getting almost twice your battery life. I have a few apps that i use everyday which are basically whatsapp, xda, chrome. I don't have many apps that would wake the phone constantly and if there is then I disable them from starting up when the phone is not in use. The best tool you can use for something like this would be rom toolbox pro. It's multiple system tools in one and it works great. I'm currently on Omega V10 with perseus kernel. Also I don't connect to wifi much and network here is weak and on 2G but even though I still get this battery life. In areas with good signal I get more battery life. Also I've dropped my phone twice with impact points on the corner, and just minor scuffs but that didn't effect the phones performance or battery life so I doubt it has affected yours.

Also I've overclocked, my processor to 1.8ghz and undervolted between - 50 and -100. So i get minimal power wastage from heat build up. Also you can set a black wall paper with a dark theme.

Unfortunately, I am not rooted, and haven't planned on doing so ever. Is there anything else I can do to fix my problem? I did download batterystats, and am waiting a few days though to see what it tells me.
Also, I used a different charger just to see what would happen today, and even though its been off the charger for 2 hours, it's already down to 94 percent. So I am thinking that there is either something wrong with the battery, the charging port, or could there be a bug in the phone's software?
I am thinking of getting a new battery, and seeing if that fixes my problem. I'm just so irritated because battery life used to be amazing, and I don't know what happened.
Maybe try a factory reset. Maybe something else has been using your battery.

That's what I was thinking. I will probably do that and report back, before going out and buying a battery or something. Is it possible that, although not reported in the battery info, that an app could be rogue or something or taking up battery? I don't want to do a factory reset and redownload a bad app.
Update: I tried a factory reset. It seems to either be worse or just the same. It's been an hour and has dropped to 97 percent, but I have made a couple of phone calls. But compared to before I did a factory reset, it dropped to 96 percent in two hours while not doing anything.
Keep your phone on charging over night.
Then let it drain to zero no matter what.
Do this 3 to 4 times and then
Leave it for charging overnight.
Then while it is already charging use battery calibration.

Quick Update:
I did another factory reset after I said the initial one didn't help. It looks like it may have helped, although I still have not gotten the battery life I used to have.
I found an application here called betterybatterystats, and have downloaded that. I will use my phone throughout today, and will post sceenshots.
If need be, I will take your advice about charging and draining and charging, and then do the battery calibration.
Here are my most reset battery stats. Screenshots are from the battery setting area, and betterbatterystats
Maybe I am just being paranoid and nothing is wrong? I can't make any sense out of these readings, but I hope someone else can.
first of all change you cable if you are having that kind of issues. Mine in my galaxy ace was having that problem, it was like connect/disconnect without any reason and it didnt charged my phone at all. I noticed it when it was too late, the continous on/off kill my battery. When I say kill i mean it just lasts 15 min in 3g with screen on and it happened to me in 2 official batteries.
good luck!

Hey guys. So unfortunately better battery stats stopped functioning. Basically when I first got the phone the battery life was pretty good, close to 5 hours screen on time, decent standby battery life. Recently within an hour of screen on and phone off the charger for about 3 hours it could easily be at 50pct. I am currently running wicked version 6 with stock kernel. I haven't downloaded any new apps that have exacerbated it and seems to deliver about the same battery life on a clean install of a rom before restoring all of my apps.
Anyone else experience this? I've tried both my stock battery and another battery with the same results.
Auto sync off as always. No clue why the crazy drop in battery performance and light on the subject would be awesome.

It's in your mind. Wiping the battery stats did absolutely nothing for you. Guarenteed.
You could have a battery that went bad. Take it out of hte phone and look at it. Is it bulging anywhere on the surface on either side?
If so the battery is bad. Replace it.
If not, it coudl still be a bad battery. See if you can find someone else with an S4 who will let you test their battery for a few hours.
Also, try a full wipe and reinstall of the rom. And restore your apps in small groups over several hours. See if battery life suddenly suffers after installing a particular app.
You could could have a messed up setting in the ROM, a rouge app that isnt' showing up on BBS, a bad battery, etc etc etc.
Try cpu sleeper? Quad core version

I noticed a pretty significant reduction in battery life since I bought the device. I see people getting 5-7 hours of screen-on time; 4-5 days idle time, etc... I could easily do that when I first got it but after around 2 months, I'm lucky to have 2 hours screen on; I'll drop about 10% over an 8 hour period on idle... I've tried on fresh installs of both TW and AOSP; adding none of my own apps and the results are the same. Stock kernel, Ktoonsez kernel, various settings, etc... I've also noticed that sometimes, say the status bar will tell me I've got 92% battery left; I boot into recovery and TWRP tells me I've got 97% left. That, to me, sounds like the battery is going south so I'll be trying a new battery here soon.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I've got a spare battery been the same experience and similar to cheetoh, I've done fresh installs, no apps and standard kernel with same results. I'll maybe pick up a zerolemon and see if that plus a fresh start helps because this is ridiculous. My battery life used to be amazing I loved it, best phone to date for me, 5+ hours screen on and would spend the day outta the house, come home late night and still have 30pct. Now, it's at 30pct by 1pm... No difference in how I use it, if anything I use it less now. I'll try these things again and probably pick up a zerolemon... Usually this isn't a problem but I'm going to have to be spending a few long days without access to a charger during the day, and don't wanna get screwed. Anyway thanks guys.

So this still happens even with a different battery?
I'm not complaining about battery life bit I just fond this strange how with nothing running my phone went from 20% to dead that fast. Phone was locked and in my pocket. Anyone have any ideas? It's also not the first time this has happened either just the first time I thought to get a screen shot of battery usage right after
**Update**
Now my phone is dying at random :/ it does it from 50%, 30% etc. Any suggestions (i.e. battery calibration, full factory reset) or should I make it stock again and get a replacement?

Batteries are gauged by how much voltage they are pushing in most tests. Though from my hobbies of electric rc cars, I've learned that batteries can change their voltages simply from a temperature change. While these changes may not be significant, they do represent differences and used to play a big part in my fifteen minutes charge cycles. It's harder to receive a positive rating in a cell that is low on power than it is with one on max charge. So if I'm down to twenty percent or so, I use my phone very sparingly. Has been pretty trustworthy for me over the years.
Either way, suspicious battery drain is usually a rogue application sitting there eating resources as the phones we use do seem to monitor battery life pretty good compared to the old voltage meter methods.

I found the htc-Facebook app drains funny on the battery. When I loaded bonestock, then loaded Facebook from the play store, it helped my battery. I think it's the way the htc-Facebook interacts with blinkfeed.
Could be completely of base, but I know the htc loaded Facebook is slightly different.

I assume you had a good signal everywhere you went? Nothing drains a battery faster than being in an area where there is very low or no signal. It constantly tries to connect and it will KILL your levels very fast. I see this quite a bit in my work place. Employees with Sprint and many times AT&T will complain about their battery dying at work only to find out the phone was constantly searching for a signal.

You know, I totally forgot about that. I used to have that issue with Sprint myself. Killing the data would eliminate TONS of battery usage when I was at work. Now that I'm on Verizon, there's never much problem. But he's completely right. If you're not getting a quality signal your phone may be searching and that can be an all day thing which just eats a battery alive.
I am in a near perfect signal. I'm pretty sure its has nothing to do with coverage. What's strange to me is the phone immediately dies. It will be at 50% and then the screen goes black and won't come back on. Once I plug it in the phone finally comes back on and is at zero.

I'd have to search around, but taking these batteries all the way down actually reduces their effective life.
Sent from my DROID2 using xda app-developers app
Basically, the more you drain the power before charging, the less charge cycles the battery will have. Someone who charges at 75% compared to someone who charges at 25% will have more cycles over the life of the battery. I can't remember the exact numbers, but there's been plenty of studies on the issue. And if I'm correct charging at those numbers, the 75% will have more than twice the charge cycles over the life of the battery. The biggest battery killers though are actually higher amperage charges. One study showed more than five times the life cycle at 3.7v per cell compared to 4.3v. And the charging required to power the higher voltages actually cause more damage over time than the extra mah output is worth. The HTC one has a decent setup and the stock charger doesn't over feed the cells. But in not sure if it will make it to the 700 charge cycle that a two year contract may leave a user with.
