[Q] MHL cable? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Does a cheap MHL cable work just as well as the expensive one or is there any difference?

I bought a cheap one in focalprice some weeks ago (+-8 usd) , I will see then, but I don't own an expensive one to comapre,
I will review as I get it

Most of the time cheap is just as good

Go to Amazon and read reviews. You do get what you pay for in mhl... I have the Skiva mhl ($15). I bought one of the $5 ones first, and after HD mkv was stuttering and draining quicker than it could charge, I bought the Skiva and learned my lesson. In most cases, except simple cables like hdmi, you get what you pay for.

Buy a HP touchpad charger. Pumps out 2ams and will charge almost anything. And costs around $5 and includes a quality micro usb cable

MHL Adaptor

Are you guys using the OEM samsung one or a third party one? I've been looking to get one and the Samsung one seems really overpriced. I ordered the Fosmon one but it was out of stock and the reviews for it aren't thay great so I might up ordering the OEM one.

I'm not talking about chargers, I'm talking about the adaptor that turns the phone's usb port into an hdmi port

I'm pretty sure we as Note 2 owners are locked into using Samsung's proprietary MHL adapter. We can't even use one that worked with the GS2, Galaxy Nexus, or even the Note 1 without an additional adapter. The GS3 and the Note 2 have a special pin layout that requires their newest and most expensive MHL adapter. Amazon has one for 34 bucks and I've been hesitant to jump on it because I don't know how much I'll really use it.
i just bought one samsung mhl to hdmi of ebay and it dint work on my note 2 only on the galaxy s3

I am using an 11 pin wire I bought off of amazon for 15 bucks. Its an all in one soulution. It has a micro usb head for the phone, full size usb to plug into your tv or power block and an hdmi. Works well. Ive had no problems.

It should be here tomorrow. Wish i would have seen that red one. Does the same job for half the price. Oh well i guess.
I ended up getting the official Samsung MHL adapter from best buy online because I had some rewards zone credits. paid nothing for it. Unfortunately, it turned out that it was the older generation adapter and doesn't work with my note 2. Ordered the 5pin to 11pin adapter from samsung using the 50% off coupon and paid 5 bucks (plus 4 bucks shipping sadly) This combination works perfectly. a bit clunky with the additional piece but cost me 9 bucks total, can't complain. Works perfectly even using the extra adapter. :good:
ps - smart dock for the note 2 is also avaliable on amazon atm

Micro usb to hdmi

Any know if this works woth the note 2 sgh-i317m.... or suggest one from amazon.CA that works.

mostly won't work, probably designed for note1, not compatible with note2.
you need one with 11 pins.
just search Samsung HDMI adaptor, if it said for galaxy s3, then it will works!
galaxy s3 also is 11 pins.
So this would work then?

yes, it should works if you buy BOTH of them.
but I would suggest buying Samsung brand,
I have a Samsung brand and it works!
maybe better video quality too.
or you can get the allshare hub, stream it to HDTV wireless!

New Charger Cable

If anyone uses a good quality cable or knows of one could u point me in that direction because I always find that the samsung ones stop working after a while around where it plugs into the phone.

I always buy the 1 buck things from eBay. They work pretty well and if one breaks there are still enough, because I always buy 5 or 6 at a time.

I have a media bridge 6 foot cable I got off amazon. Great charger cable. It seems like it charges faster than stock too. Not just on my nexus, but also my uncles note.

From 1€ to 4,10€ in a day...
Lucky me. I bought 5 for 1 each a few weeks ago.
Hope they will lower the price soon.

I recently bought a nice retractable one from my local Office Max. Liking it a lot! Charges just as fast as the original cable and works for data as well.

I think Google just started accessories for the Nexus 4, like a USB cable, maybe that one will be solid.

Charging cables

I understand that not all micro usb cable effiently charge the s3. Do you have any recommendation other than stock option?
most of them should have no problem whatsoever unless you buy them from really low quality manufacturers.
I bought a bunch from monoprice and they seem to work just fine. (6ft cables)
Stay under 5' for best results. YMMV.

I like the monoprice "premium" series.. Should be around $1-$2 each
