"Change language mod" messed up my Kindle keyboard - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have developed a little app to be able to change the language to my KF. This is just a reimplementation of the original locale picker from android (missed in the KF), so no root is needed.

Hi!
I installed the modified locale picker and it mostly works fine. Unfortunately I'm experiencing some trouble with my Kindle keyboard now:
I can easily switch from letters to numbers - but not backwards! If I press the letters-button, the letters are only visible as long as I press the button. If I let it go, I return to the numbers and a comma is typed into the textbox. If I keep my finger/pen pressed to the display and move it to a letter, I can successfully type it in - then it immediately returns to the numbers.
Some textboxes (passwords, "confirm-E-Mail-address-fields", ...) even have a different kind of keyboard without a numbers-option. I have to keep pressed some additional characters to get popups of the numbers so that I can type them in.
My KF thinks that is an Android phone since I installed the locale picker - could that be the reason that I now have a trimmed-down version of the keyboard?
As this is quite annoying, I would appreciate any help!

[bug] New thread, reply, quick reply text boxes defaulting to EN-US keyboard layout?!

Edit: This bug is now resolved.
Hi, just something I've noticed - when using the Quick reply box on this forum, for some reason (at least on my PC, but I'm pretty sure it's not a problem at my end because no other forum does it) it modifies the input locale to the US English keyboard layout, so if I hit Shift+2 (which on my PC normally produces the inverted comma " symbol) I get an ampersand (@). And of course, to get inverted commas I have to hit Shift and the apostrophe key (which on EN-UK keyboards produces the ampersand, but on EN-US keyboards it produces inverted commas: " ).
This is _really weird_, and it's not the only wrong key mapping: check this out...
Ok, so this is what I get when I hit Shift+number keys (along the top).
I should get (in order): !, ", £, $, € (which is on the same key as $, to get it you type Alt Gr + 4... US keyboards don't have an Alt Graphics key!), %, ^, &, *, (, ) ... What I actually get is !, @, #, $ (for some reason Alt Gr + 4 makes my cursor jump outside of the text box), %, ^, &, *, (, ) - which to me looks like EN-US keyboard layout.
I also have incorrect mappings on some of my other keyboard symbol keys, for example the tilde/hash key (next to the Enter key on the middle row on a UK keyboard) gives \ and | - which on UK keyboards are right next to the left shift key (they also work in this text box, but the hash (pound key, heh) is on the 4 key, which is wrong.
It's really bizarre, and it's never happened to me on any other forum (including other vB forums!) so I can only assume the input locale is incorrectly set on the forum config... Is it set to Unicode, or En-US or another specific locale or what? 1044 is Unicode English if I remember correctly, but I've not adminned a vB forum for a faiiiiiiiiir while so I honestly couldn't give any more help than this :/
It's not a terminal flaw, it's just REALLY. ANNOYING. when you're typing stuff and it screws up all the symbols :/
Can't reproduce it on firefox under linux... my spanish keyboard layout is working perfect: ñññ
Hi Christopher,
I can't for the live of me think of anything that would do this.
Nevertheless I checked the vbulletin settings and changed a setting, although I don't feel it should be the problem (it doesn't need to be on so it's worth a try).
Please let me know if this changed anything for you, since I'll turn it back on if it didn't.
Thanks in advance,
Flar
Dont see an issue with my swiss german keyboard.
IE6 XP
My Keyboard is fine - 2 and " - there you go...
""@@ - working fine on my (new) laptop. Running XP Pro, installed it fresh over the XP Home install (yeuck, why can't vendors understand that sometimes end-users WANT the Pro versions?!)
Just tried loading up the same thread, hitting Quick Reply in both IE6 and Flock, and the problem is fixed now - so I'd love to know what you changed!
All sorted now, thanks for taking the time to investigate and solve whatever it was which was causing this to happen, because it was really driving me nuts.

Third parties keyboard does not fire up!!

I install a third party Soft Input Panel (SIP) called "The Phraze-It."
the problem is when i choose to fire up the input, it does not fire up. it remains with the idiot default keyboard.
anything i can do in the registry? i try to use SIPChange but still not working.
Please help me!!
I encountered the same problem on ppc-6700 WM5. Their support say I need to hard-reset.
Could be a problem of Black ROM... Try LVSW ROM, works here...
Could be Black or could be a memory problem. I had an issue with Calligrapher that resolved after removing the HTC Home plugin.
I tried SIPChange to set a new keyboards (HappyTappingKeyboard and TenGO Thumb), but it didn't seem to work. Eventually, I found IMselector/IMselecter (the filename was spelled one of the ways). It is somewhere on the board, I'll go look for a link for you. I used that to set the new keyboard as the default keyboard, then softreset. The new keyboard worked perfectly.
the cause of this is the custom skin of the original keyboard. there is .mui file which u will have to overwrite but i dont know exactly to get it back to original.
at10ti0n,
can you elaborate further step by step on the .mui?
Anyone,
what is the link to download the IMselector? please! i still can resolve the problem
Here's IMSelecter. Install this to Device, not Storage Card.
After you've installed your 3rd party SIP, use IMSelecter to choose that SIP as default (there should be a drop down list, and in your case, just Phraze-It). Then, tap the power button to suspend and thus keeping the change (just to be safe), and then soft reset. Your SIP should work.
(this whole process was used on WM5, try it out, if it doesn't work, PM me.)
I installed IMSelector on my HTC Touch running stock HTC WM6 ROM. It correctly sets PCM Keyboard as my default SIP. However, the SIP icon now shows virtually all the time in the lower area (between the soft keys) every time I start a new app or go to the Programs window - regardless of whether or not there is an input box on the visible page. The default device behavior is to only show the SIP icon when the visible window contains some form of input control - i.e. text box, combo box, etc. Now, I get the icon on evrery new screen.
Any ideas on how to get the default behavior back?
Thanks,
-Scott

Schap's 3.30c on AT&T 8525 keyboard Problem

Great ROM but I am having an issue with slide-out keyboard layout. The letters themselves all type correctly (both in small and CAPS) but when I use bottom left shift key to access punctuation some of the symbols are in the wrong place.
For Example:
Top row letters are:
QWERTYUIOP
Symbols listed on these keys are:
[email protected]/#123()
Symbols typed actually are:
[email protected]?/#123()
Thus the first 3 key symbols are incorrect in first row, there are 4 incorrect in the second and one in the third. Software keyboard works correctly.
Has anyone else had this problem?
OTHER QUICK UNRELATED QUESTION:
I really like the HTC Today Home Screen with the weather but my city is not listed on drop-down menu list. Is there a way to add a city not on list – on accuweather.com you can add city by zip.

the layout needs to be changed to USA.. load HTCustom 1.5 and change the layout to English or search on here for a 8525 WXML keyboard.cab
Thanx Jakeypoo
I am a bit of a newbee here. Can you give me more spicific instructions including where to find the correct cab file?
install, softreset, bam
No change?
At the risk of being stupid...this is what I did:
Extracted files to desktop
Moved them to a folder in my documents in the 8525 (8 total files)
clicked on setup file
I saw a list of characteristics run
softboot
bam...no change?
no... copy the .cab file to your phone and click on it thru file explorer on the phone and it will install..
Worked!
Thank you so much!
Wow
Says a lot for this site when someone is able to get a rom, and flash their phone without even knowing how to run a .cab file. I am impressed.
Second that one bro. Cab file? well ive never heard of such a thing.

Customize User Dictionary

Has anyone been able to change or update words in their user dictionary? I use the standard Samsung Keyboard, but I cannot find a setting for user dictionary anywhere. I can goto options for the samsung keyboard, but it will only learn from gmail, facebook, etc. Any help would be appreciated.
PS
The samsung keyboard letters are grayed out in language and input, but I can click on the cog next to it to get to settings.
I tried the Swype, but couldn't figure it out either so I went back to my trusty old SlideIt. Easy customizable dictionary + resize keyboard however you like + move keyboard to left or right side for one-handed typing + many more customizations, including how long you want to longhold a key to get the upper character (min. time is 0.1 sec!). Get the paid version. It's better.

Does it have the numbers separately set above the keyboard? Each of the keyboard I have looked at don't have this feature which keeps me using the stock keyboard.

Numbers are, like on a regular laptop/desktop chiclet keyboard, superscripted on the top row of keys (i.e. the qwerty row). So to access the #1, you longhold 'q'. In settings, you can adjust the longhold duration. Mine is set to 0.1 sec, which is so short a time that it is almost the same as having a dedicated #1 key. It's so quick that as I'm getting used to it, I've unintentionally typed the longhold characters quite a few times.

That's based on the older ICS keyboard. Notice on the note 2 with jellybean keyboard you get a separate set of number keys, allowing them to add even more special characters to the letter keys? Trying to retain that. Think I found a few new ones tho. Thx.
anyone able to edit user dictionary ... or import text file ... right now its learning from facebook and gmail but cannot import it by whatsapp ... software like User Dictionary manager show blank dictionary

[Q] How do you change keyboards?

I'm on the current 1.54.651.8 (well, a rooted version of it), and can't figure out how to change input methods, for example, to a 3rd-party keyboard.
It used to be, you'd long-press in an input field, and you'd get a prompt to select the input method.
Some say you should see a keyboard icon in the status-bar.
I don't get either of these. In settings / Language and keyboard, there's no obvious way to change the default device.
Long-press on the spacebar also does nothing (except to repeat space).
Is this maybe broken in this update? (Or in the BadSeed Rooted Stock 1.54.651.8 I'm running?)

If you get SwiftKey keyboard as you set it up it will say set as default might work
Hmm. Well, that worked.
The SwiftKey setup popped up the Choose Input Method dialog that I was looking for.
Then I selected Smart Keyboard as my input method.
I can't see uninstalling/reinstalling this every time I want to change the Input Method though.
Bring up a chat so your keyboard is open, then bring the notification bar down. There should be a keyboard listed, select the icon and choose your input method
