I have a touchwiz 5 launcher installed and I love it (only one that doesn't cut off dock when phone is slid into landscape mode), but the mms icon is stuck with a notification of 1. I can have no messages or 6382 messages, it only stays one. It does it for another Touchwiz 5 launcher I had. Is there anyway to fix it?

If you don't care about all of your messages you could try and delete data for the messaging app with titanium backup... you could also backup the messages with an app first just in case it don't work.....

Is it possible to delete the app "messaging" but not mess up being able to actually text?
Here is my scenario I use handcent to text and they have an option to blacklist (hide) messages from certain people. However the app "messaging" which comes with the phone still shows them! Can I get hide that app? I am have the epic experience with the emotionless beast on my phone.
I couldn't find the app in root explorer either to rename it!
Any ideas?
it's in your system/app directory it's called MMS.apk. you can back up and unistall it with sdx stock app uninstaller and see if everything still works ok. If you have any issues then you can just restore it.

I usd sdx stock app to remove the orignal one in order to put on an mms.apk that allows me to have a maximum 5M mms size. If i delete it after i just put it on wont it remove the feature?
I will try it in a bit anyways though and let you know the results
EDIT: It didn't work,by getting rid of it I can still sms but my mms is completely disabled which makes sense. Thanks anyways for the idea though
Any other suggestions please

I could have told you wouldn't be able to send or receive mms
Just use launcher puerto and hide the stock app on the draw. I believe theres other apps that do this also.

No the issue isn't getting double notifications. I need the app removed or hidden. The messages that I hide in handcent are still visible in messaging, thats the problem.
Use shadysms.

no, the stock messaging app is needed for handcent to run.
Thank you it will stay

Deleting some stock apps have cost me lengthy time in recovery mode, leave em in for the ride.
Use titanium backup to freeze them. Out of sight, out of mind.

This is a bad idea as some stock apps are needed like the messaging app

yeah, all you can do is disable notifications for it. i just wish that i could hide/remove some of the apps from the "share" function, which i use quite a lot. i'd like to choose which apps are in that view, and in which order. i know its the same in sense 2.0, so we can only hope it comes in a later revision.

+1. I use Handcent as well. Go to stock messaging and disable notifications.

I've used cyanogen since my OG Droid days and delete mms.apk after I install handcent along with email (not gmail), protips, news and weather, car home, etc. Never had an issue.

I did this and tested it and mms can NOT be received. Fortunately I had a TI backup to restore mms.apk from, otherwise I would have had to reinstall CM...
You don't have to reinstall the rom just for one app.. its packaged in, just take mms.apk out of /system/app in the rom download and put it back into /system/app on your phone.

What files would i need to remove to completly remove/disable the stock text messaging app? I found a vanilla one i like very much and i keep getting double texts in both. D:<

You can turn off notifications via going into the stock "text messaging" app through your apps list and then go into "messaging settings" and uncheck the "notifications - status bar" button.
Then you will only have your new text msg app notifying you.
It still shows up in the new messaging app.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
You can delete it from /system/app via root-explorer or adb Or you can uninstall it using TitaniumBackup.
download the app rootuninstaller.
and then uninstall it.
I tried to use system app remover to remove messaging. I still get double texts in my vanilla message app.

last time i had this problem (double sms received). i re-flashed the rom.
btw, i wouldn't remove the stock messaging app through, i think the 3rd party sms apps actually use the system one for the actual work, they're more of a "front-end". just disable the notifications should be fine.
if you install another sms app and now actually receiving double sms (not just the notification), i think there's something else wrong...
I was using go sms than sliding messaging.
Loved the quick sms on sliding but as laggy. So I switch back to stock tw
I loved go sms because of the emoticons.

ive had really bad experiences texting people with iPhones. they dont receive go sms apps that well. (unless theyre JB) which sucks cause a ton of people have iPhones.
personally i use the native SGS3 messaging app, or line app for my family overseas. (its free! )
Gosms pro, there is some things i dont like about it but I haven't been very impressed with other SMS apps. I use the stock SMS app at times to send pictures over wifi calling but that's about it

I use the stock messaging app with SMS Popup... Works fine for me. I like that I can respond to texts without unlocking my device (although that could be a bad thing for security - but then again, I just use swipe to unlock anyway since I guard my phone like Fort Knox).
Is there any way to get Google hangouts to pop up on the lockscreen when you get a text the same way the stock text message works? Like the circle with the message icon and number.

I would also like to see this. Just updated to 4.3 on Verizon S3 and it doesn't work with Hangouts. The driving mode also doesn't read the text since it's in Hangouts.
Hangouts just began to be integrated with SMS... give it some time to make it the go-to feature for texting, etc. Until then, you have a bunch of apps that integrates fully into the original Messaging app like Halo, Popup Notifier, Textra, Handcent, and even Facebook Messenger. I'm sure Hangouts will reach this point but until then, try other apps.
Facebook messenger no longer does SMS AFAIK. That was taken out. Hangouts is cool, especially for group messaging, but I personally couldn't stand it being white. Luckily dark horse makes inverted apps.
One of my main gripes with hangouts as well as most other SMS apps is when your phone doesn't have service or in airplane mode...when you restore service the text messages you receive aren't timestamped properly. It stamps them like you just received them...and not when they actually were sent.

Install a 3rd party application to manage notifications and make sure you can enable notifications on the lock screen.
