Verizon Tethering (Umlimited Data) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys, got a couple of questions hopefully you can help me with. I've moved out into the country and there is hardly any ISP's out here. Only ones being the satellite ones. With that being said, I have verizon unlimited data for 2 more years and I was wondering, if I plan on using this as a daily driver for tethering on my computer, can I call verizon and tell them I'd like to pay $ a month for tethering? Isn't it like $20? Would I be limited on how much data I can tether? I'm trying to do this the right way if possible, I don't want them to cut me off or anything like that.
i JUST got 4g signal today at my home (guessing they updated one of the towers out here
Thanks!

You should be fine tethering on unlimited w/o a tethering plan. Verizon actually got in trouble with the FTC for blocking it on LTE. I do it all the time.

Alright, I'm guessing your rooted correct? While I'm gone my wife will have to be using her 4g but she does not want me to root her phone so were using an app, thats mainly why I was asking. Thanks for your reply!

Try tethering using FoxFi from the play store. See if that works ok for you.

Incorrect. What the FCC slapped them on the wrist for is having third party tethering apps blocked in the Play Store. Per the FCC, Verizon is still permitted to charge C block (LTE) customers on an unlimited plan a separate tethering fee, regardless if they use a third party app or not. What they are not permitted to do is have third party apps blocked from the Play Store, or charge tiered customers for tethering.
For those still on unlimited plans, everything, save for apps no longer being blocked, remains the same as it was before. If they somehow detect your tethering, they can charge you for a tethering plan or drop you altogether.

Don't they charge a $250 migration fee or something absurd, every time you change your plan?

It appears it will be free if you already have the unlimited (5GBP)(like me). It says upgrade to unlimited from 2gb for $10. Thats $30

Probably in preparation for the I phone 5 launch.
I have a question though. Let's say we got the truely unlimited plan can we still use the tethering option in cm10 without getting caught?
Hopefully they just add $5 more to the 30/monthly 4G plan.

I just hope tmobile's network will be able to take the hit from all of us data hogs + the new ones who will be making the switch. That's the only thing that worries me because it would suck to be on an unlimited data plan that only crawls along web pages and streaming.

I was a little bummed that I left sprint after 9 years and was missing my sprint unlimited everything and have been keeping a good eye on my usage now with TMO so I dont go over. Now I'm really glad I switched over. Currently on the value $64.99 (500 min, unltd texts, and 5gb data) plan and from the looks of it I'll be paying $5 more to get the unlimited everything. Cant wait for the 5th! The plus side of Tmo is I get 4g speeds in 99% places I go and didnt have to wait for LTE to roll out for sprint.

Customer retention can offer you unlimited 5GB data for $20 (this does not have the tethering option) and it can be added now, no need to wait till the 5th. They only have the 5GB plan, i already asked about the 2GB for $10 and they said they don't have that offer. I didn't take this option even though it is $10 cheaper (I currently have the grandfathered unlimited data & text for $35) cause I always find myself tethering my laptop or tablet during travel when the hotel wireless is spotty.
I just got the 5 gig from retention but the rep states that I still will only have a five gig cap is this true? or does he know what he's talking about? I'm thinking he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. But got that plan from retention for 20 bucks a month

Tether without rooting?

Is there a way to tether on a TMobile S3 without rooting the phone?
While the S3 is an awesome phone, not having tethering sucks. I travel alot and hate to pay for internet.
Please help. Would be used for an Vista Windows laptop and the Asus Transformer TF101 android tablet.
S3 has built in wifi hot spot, just pay t-mobile the tethering fee
why don't you want to root? It's pretty simple to do so, and the benefit is great.

Last i checked wifi tether with Foxfi was unsupported for our phones. However bluetooth tether worked perfect for me stock unrooted. And I gta ask same question as above, why not just root? You bought a Samsung. Now show it.
Try going to http://foxfi.com/bin and side loading it.
If you go to the play store and look at the Fox fi add on app the site is listed in the description.

has been working for me for days since I signed up for unlimited 4g data plan.
I always just used PDAnet. We had a storm come through the other day and knocked out my home internet for a couple days. I had PDAnet (that I downloaded from the PLAY store) and used it to watch Netflix. Worked like a charm. Root isn't even required.
So the consensus here is that even with the (no tether unlimited 4g) plan tethering still works just fine? Or someone said that you must use firefox on the tethered pc and another said that pda.net app must be used? I'm looking to save some money by switching from my 10gig data plan but need to know that it will still tether first.

No one said you have to use anything. If you are rooted, tethering will work fine. You can't use the built-in tethering if you are not running a custom rom.
I too am considering the plan. Very interested to know the actual charges are at the end of billing cycle. Contracts usually have additional fees every month. That being said the cost of the plan sound really good. I am averaging about 10mb download with highs of 16mb with my no contract tmobile plan. It sucks on beachside but was kind of expecting that, can go from 100kb to 8mb down within a block or two. Might just be interference.
I would also like to know if calling mart credits can be added to the account or other providers credits work. Then I would actually be paying less than the price they are asking. About 5 percent less when i can find the codes that are still valid!
Please keep us posted everyone! Let us know if thier are any problems after tethering and how much are you tethering percentage wise daily. I want to cut out the cable and would just go to tethering for home if i can.
Also thinking that after sept 12th,tmobile may try to lure others into thier plans with free phones on that value plan, hope so,then can sell that phone(one s?) and get that Gnexus i been wanting to try .

[Q] Which version is best for use with TZones?

I've got a TZones plan, and would like to move to a Note 2. Which of the three Note models is the best choice for me between the AT&T I317, the Canadian T889V, and the international N7100/N7105. I'm in SoCal, so if LTE is coming I'm thinking it'll be here soon. I really need to be able to wifi tether, that is a key function for me.
Thanks for the advice and help!
No advice?
Ditch tzones, cause they could do a force upgrade, they are being more diligent in checking devices that log on, but if u was to go with tones, I would use a rooted international, which would only get you edge anyway.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Ok, assuming I do ditch tzones, is there a plan that doesn't have data caps and allows me to wifi tether?
Also, if I want to keep trying my luck, is the T889V the best choice? I've read the blocks on Canadian phones have been very few.
Wow, you're really still using tzones, huh? And you expect to be able to use unlimited 4g data with tethering? Ya Got balls, buddy
I can't help you with device choices, only people that could are the ones who have taken the risk and experimented with different devices.
But, I can tell you there is no data feature that's completely unlimited AND includes tethering officially. Tmobile uses throttling, so when you hit your "softcap* for the month, your internet speeds are turned down painfully slow (like down to 100kbps).
Assuming you changed to a value plan(since you seem like the type that is fine with paying full price upfront for the phone), here are your choices:
2gb softcap, no tethering = $10
5gb softcap, tethering = $25
10gb softcap, tethering = $55
Truly unlimited, no softcap, but also no tethering = $20
Note that some people are still finding ways to get around the tethering block on non-tethering data features, but results are extremely mixed. So if you're willing to experiment(and, of course, be violating tmobile's terms), you MIGHT be able tether under the radar. I suppose you are willing to, since you're still trying to use a 2004 flip phone data feature on a galaxy note 2
Anyway, good luck man. Hope that helps.

[Q] Anyone find a WIFI tether app that works yet?

FoxFi doesn't seem to work on the Verizon version. Problem is that the Verizon version gets locked down so rooting may take a while. Hopefully someone will find one that works.
EDIT: Bluetooth tethering works, but it is a fraction of the speed. 10% at the most.
Edit 2: Been spoiled with Paranoid Android. Looks like root is required for free WiFi tether to work with KitKat devices.
I am not buying this phone until it is rooted because of this.
If there is a workaround, I am 100% buying this thing ASAP.
So... Anyone have some ideas?
No wifi tethering yet, but using FoxFi/PdaNet for USB tethering works fine for me in the meantime. Speed is fine running it that way.
Well excuse me guys but I think I'm missing something here. What's wrong with tethering? The default settings for tethering works fine with me without any other app.

Ops my mistake. I though you meant the feature in general is not working. Now I understand, it's working but with extra subscription while on Verizon. I'm not on the same network so I don't have such issue.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Regards,
Don't know if it's any use to you but on Three in the UK you have to pay for tethering or it blocks internet until you reboot the phone but I found that it can't detect the computer if you're using a linux distro. Worth a try with a live disk/pen if it's just for browsing etc.

Theoretically if you had root, do you think there's an app that would work in Infrastructure mode? I'm on Sprint so root isn't a problem but I had awful tether problems with my old M7 when it went to KitKat and I had to revert back to keep my old android-wifi-tether install working.

Tmobile gives you 3GB of tethering for free. They don't block the native tethering at all. After you reach the limit, tethering would redirect you to a Tmobile page. Internet services like Dropbox or League of Legends still work even though you've reached the limit. And Facebook, I believe. =.P
But I don't use any tethering apps, and I'm on Tmobile. Is there a reason why you're trying to use ClockworkMod Tether?
EDIT: I forgot, that's on their $20 data plan, the unlimited-no-throttle plan. I don't know how the native tethering works on other plans. Hmm...
