[Q] Upgrade to .587 firmware using flashtool with files from SEUS? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have an Arc S that Sony has not deemed worthy of the 4.04 update yet. I had a friend over and upgraded his phone, also an Arc S (ironically bought 6 months after mine) through SEUS. His was on original GB firmware.
Then I saved the update files on my computer.
Can I use those files through flashtool to upgrade my own Arc S without bricking anything and without losing data?
Also would the phone be eligible through Sony for upcoming OTA's

I have already read that and I have all the tools primed and waiting, I just wanted a clarification since my phone is on 4.0.3. My friends phone was on 2.3. It's not a case of saving my own update files but files from another phone with a different SI and base to upgrade.

Just use a ftf from here.

I don't know if this will be usefull for you but i'd restore a cwm backup of my arc over my wife's one without any problem, and on my daughter's too.

Which phone you've got? The official ICS update is currently available only in Nordic countries, so it's normal not to be able to install it yet, if you don't have a phone bought from there.
Sent from my LT18i using Tapatalk 2
Im trying to flash the nordic ics with flashtool but im having no luck. i figured it might be because i have doomkernel v21 on my phone. i closed seus and restarted it and all models are showing again. however when im trying to reinstall the firmware i have already via seus or pcc i get an error and so now im stuck.

[Q] xperia s new firmware official update .55 problem

greetings ,
i have an Xperia s phone with the firmware 6.1.A.2.50 rooted with root many droids (bin4ry)
software update in my phone showed that there is new update available...
i downloaded the new update...but it always fails to update..
is it cuz it's rooted??
should I unroot my device so that i can update...???
im a bit confused :silly:
You can flash stock 6.1.A.2.50 again and then try to update, it should work then. Rooting actually doesn't affect update via PCC or SUS, as far as i know.
But yes if the bootloader is unlocked then you won't be able to update as well. So your device bootloader unlocked or locked?
One more thing you should remember the new update 0.55 is not easily rootable. The method which worked for 0.50 and 0.45 won't work on 0.55
Lastly the new update 0.55 doesn't bring anything special. I tried and then went back to 0.50 again. Still it's your call.

Funny thoug, that Sony claim to be open for external development and for eg. XDA, and at the same time Sony make an effort to secure that you can't root every time they release new firmware...
Sent from my phone using xda premium
:good: thanks guys,im a newbie here..i dunno the answer your question...
i bought the new device and all i did is rooted via Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18...i dunno if it unlocks the bootlloader...
i rooted my device though it wasn't useful to me rather than before rooting cuz i dunno how to use the maximum before rooting..
i heard that the firmware is better for the RAM and i have a wireless problem (it freezes n dysfunction)..
thanks a lot again auni
anyway i fixed it ma self....just used the stupid pc companion and it worked though it took some time to download the update..
thanx XDA

Locked Bootloader in a new Xperia ZL

I just bought a couple of days ago mi new Xperia ZL, i think the phone is great, but today when i tried to get mi phone rooted, i realized the bootloader is locked.
Im kind of new at this, but i really dont know why mi phone is on that status, so does that mean that i never be able to fully root mi phone?
I tried to do it with a dooloard applicatiĆ³n, but it seems that the android compilation version is not compatible with the doomlord software.
Could someone help me please! i want to erase all the garbage from my service provider.
I have a Xperia Zl C6502, 10.1.1.A.1.253
By the way, Im From Guatemala, sorry for the crappy english.

A locked bootloader doesn't stop you from rooting. Mine is locked (and is unlockable) and I have root.
Use this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332407

In order to root the 253 build, you need to follow Nut's thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2299092
Read everything carefully before doing it, I think the build 253 was the most complicated build to root not because it's hard but it has more steps than any other builds.
Why don't you upgrade to the latest 4.2.2 build 244. It's very stable and good. Plus, it's easy to root.... :good:
Even if your BL is locked, every build can be rooted.

You are not getting the OTA because your carrier is not pushing it. If your phone is branded to xyz carrier than you need to wait for them to push their new bloaded firmware via OTA.
If you flash the Sony generic firmware, you will be getting OTA's as soon as Sony pushes them out.
If you want to flash your phone to the latest Sony generic, you will need:
Flashtool : http://androxyde.github.io/
PC Companion
C6502 FTF: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389305
Installed drivers for your Xperia ZL (can be found inside Drivers folder when flashtool is installed)
This thread has screenshots on how to use flashtool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Don't forget to Turn on "Unknown sources" and "USB Debugging" before flashing the phone.
Once you have flashed this firmware, you will root by
1 - Flashing the FW 423 Kernel ONLY
2 - Reboot and root with DoomLord's latest exploit (v.18)
3 - Flash back the FW 244 Kernel ONLY
4- Reboot and you are done!
Happy flashing!! :highfive:

Unlocked bootloader allows you to flash custom kernels so that you can flash cooked roms which may require a custom kernel. If you like the Sony stock rom and just want to root on it then dont bother unlocking it.
Also, rooting doesnt void your warranty, unlocking your bootloader does.
Glad everything worked out for you!

Would flashtool stop SUS updating phone?

Hi there, im waiting for the 4.4.4 update on unbranded uk phone and was wondering if flashing .757 to phone with flashtool earlier would stop SUS from working?
The 4.4.4 update has been out for over a week now and i still dont have it showing in pc companon or SUS, phone has locked bootloader and stock rom.
Also when the update becomes available, will SUS completely wipe the phone back to factory fresh and remove dual recovery? The phone is loaded with junk atm i want rid of and was wonderig if SUS will nuke all partitions or just update in place?
Thanks for look.

Possible. If you flashed a FTF with a customization that does not get an update, you will not get an update. Refer to this thread for more info.
From your post it was not clear if your BL is unlocked or not. An unlocked BL will prevent flashtool from working. in any case, updating via SUS will wipe modifications to the system, including root and recoveries. If you update OTA, those things will remain intact as long as the update does not specifically concern these things.
I have UK also and still no update with PCC or OTA. We always get them last.
yeah, the doom of getting UK unlocked phone via Clove, everything is 1 month later
need to flash a central eu or something .. its a bit faster

[Q] Xperia ZL update issue

Hi
my xperia is currently 4.1.2 android and I want to update to the latest version
but whenever I try to do so, after the computer is prepared and firmware downloaded it reboots my phone then comes up with an error message saying that my phone contains modified software and hence can't be updated. My phone is purely stock and contains nothing of the sort so I factory reset it to make sure and I get the same response.
I also cannot update directly from the phone as it tells me to use a computer
Why is this problem occurring?
thanks for the help

Yep I brought it second hand about a year ago, but I have been able to update it before
It's battery died about 6 months ago so I've kept it locked up and only took it out now after ordering the battery on eBay and replacing it myself. Now it works perfectly but fails to update to the newest firmware
